More Android Desserts to Come

Android just seems to get sweeter and sweeter with every update, and we now know the names of the next three.  Google will be dishing out healthy servings of Donut, Eclair and Flan sometime this year.  I don’t know about you, but I’m wondering what dessert they pick when they reach “x” (in case you missed it, the updates are named alphabetically and are based off desserts).  Not much has been said about the new updates other than increased social network integration (which is clearly the “in” thing to do nowadays) and Google plans to make it easier for app developers to take your money (Joy!).  Now, if we coculd only hear more about new devices running Android… I can dream, right?   As always, leave your comments, rants and opinions in the comments.

Just wondering if anyone has anyinfo on the MyTouch 3G’s battery life? I know the specs, but lets face it, the G1 specs looked good too. But inreality the G1′s battery life couldnt get any worse.

    G: Ganache
    H: Hot Fudge
    I: Ice Cream
    J: Jellybean
    K: Key Lime Pie
    L: Lemon Meringue

Battery Life on the mytouch is actually worse. I get about a extra 30mins on my G1 then I do with the mytouch.

I just hope to God they fix the horrible e-mail app, patch up the glitches in the web browser, and polish the OS up a little more. It’s a good start for sure…but it needs help in those areas.

  • Elrich

    It’s DING-DONG, not donut! F*ck!

Android sucks a$$ for business anyway, it’s all about Windows Mobile and the Touch Pro2, baby!

  • Tito

Android is a lot more business-friendly… in case you haven’t noticed, exchange support is on the mytouch even though it’s still lacking on the G1

  • Johnny

Elrich, are you kidding ? Windows Mobile is the worst OS there is !

  • Elrich

But many of us on corporate enterprises have no choice — it’s either MS Exchange or nothing, not even Blackberry cuz they also reem you on fees and companies are moving away from them.

  • cDAWG

so if the updates are alphabetically and named after dessert then what was “a” and “b”???

  • Chad

The US myTouch is NOT stripped of Exchange support. It apparently only supports email, though, not calendar and contacts. See

  • redd

So what exactly is exchange support??? Cuz i have no idea what that is.

  • Taylor

Wait, even people in the US get these next updates, right?

  • Belinda

the my touch battery is a little better. i can go a whole day from morning to night when i get home. but remember, you battery can be trained. let it completely die out before charging it, and charge the phone while it is off. You will see an improvement

    Beyond agreed…. BEYOND!

So when will we see this update? I just got the Mytouch yesterday. I had the G1 and hated almost everything about it (keyboard was awkward, bulky and heavy, camera…. HORRIBLE, rang too quiet, battery life…. worse, no exchange support that I could find). The mytouch is what the G1 SHOULD have been! The only thing is – should I be waiting for updates? With the G1 we received updates a day within getting it. I went to settings > about phone > System Updates and it says I am up to date. It just seems to run slower than my G1 did. Also, for the life of me, it will not let me add a picture frame to the home screens…. Help please?! :)

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

about 25% longer than the g1. So it will die in 5 hours instead of 4.

  • Rhonda Jo

Talk time, 7 hours+ (website says 7), I talk on the phone A LOT though. I had GPS enabled and talked for a total of about 4 hours (maybe 5), then I was on market place downloading stuff for a total of about 2 hours. And the batter had just moved into the yellow. Honestly, it’s A LOT better than the G1. I got rid of my G1 because of the battery life and crap camera. This is better in both.

  • Elrich

Not in the U.S. — the MyTouch3G in the U.S. is stripped of MS Exchange Support because it is a “Google” phone for the “Google experience” (that’s what Google said). You need to then backfill with a (paid) third-party (unauthorized by MS) application. This Android thing animosity of Google vs. Microsoft really sucks a$$.

  • ogn1463

no way, its alot better, mine lasts way longer than it did on my G1…ive gone without charging it for a day and have gotten through have of the next day, i think the battery life is way better

  • Byrd21

Exchange Support is the ability for your device to sync with a Microsoft Exchange Server. The Microsoft Exchange Server allows for instant wireless synchronization of your e-mail, contacts, calendar and tasks. An app named “Touchdown” is currently the best (and only) app available for the G1. Touchdown allows you to do everything a Windows Mobile Device does but with a better format.

  • Kacey Green

That’s for sure, though the improvement only lasted a week on my phone before I had to do it again.

New TouchDown app rocks my world! My email comes in, looks nice and clear. When I open the app fully (from starting point), it shows me all the things I have for the day on my Outlook calendar. I can put widgets on my desktop. I love it (using Mytouch).

  • Rhonda Jo

With Touchdown you are able to view ALL of your contacts and calendar. Works flawlessly.
