Completing the 8900 rumor circle

t-mobile-curve-8900-hands-on-002

We apologize for the lateness of this posting, there was a number of host issues last night and various technical difficulties that could continue at sporatic points during the day. Please bear with us as we work through this problem.

So up to now, we have pretty much given you every single bit of known information regarding the upcoming release of the Blackberry 8900. However, the one thing that has continuously been the subject of much speculation was the pricing. With the corporate release date of the phone drawing near, it was only a matter of time before we could get our hands on some prices. Well without further ado, the pricing rundown is as follows:

  • Retail: $499
  • 2-Year contract: $199 ($300 instant rebate)
  • 1-Year contract: $249 ($250 instant rebate)

Update: Rumor has it that these prices are for business customers pre-release. History has taught us however, that we can expect that pricing will likely be the same for the public. The sole exception being the 1-year contract and whether or not it is going to be an available option for the consumer side. I have heard many of you convey that an acceptable price would be $199, so this should come as good news to a lot of you guy! Now all we have left to do is await the official release!

Update number 2:  It looks like the Blackberry Curve 8900 has now shown up over on the T-Mobile web site!

The curve is very nice but i wish my beloved T-mobile would carry a touch screen Blackberry if there is going to be a gsm version of the storm. I would get it. Right now i am holding out for the G2. My friend scott who is a retail store manager in Dayton OHIO told me the G2 is going to be all touch screen and no qwerty keyboard. That is what he heard. I will have to wait and see.

I would love but no job.

Ummm disappointment after disappointment with T-Mobile. I remember the days when T-Mobile had the hottest phones, and the hottest service.
    Fast forward to 2009-2009
    Their customer service sucks
    Their phones suck
Their plans are going up in price
Still no 3G in Jacksonville, FL

sigh Verizon here I come, I want the STORM, I played with my friends Storm this weekend, and honestly couldn’t put it down, I hate the iPhone, this thing was a sheer and utter delight to play with.. So sad, my contract is up at the end of March, we’ll see if Tmobile can redeem themselves by then. Doubt it!

How come you guys talk about a 1 year contract and when I call the 1-800 number they say that thay no longer offer one.

I’m going to have to agree with DavidinJax….T-Mobile disappoints time after time…..after time. Are the execs smoking crack? I have never seen a company run so crappy since…well….I really don’t know. There’s truly a good reason why T-Mobile is the #4 carrier in the US. Their phones are maybe a step up from the toy phones I buy at Toy ‘R US for my daughter. How in the hell can they think this is what customers want? I’m watched AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint release excellent to very good phones. Not T-Mo….they were the last to the 3G market and the best they could do is release a garbage phone the likes of the G1. And now their first new Blackberry in ages doesn’t even have 3G support. I’m seriously going to cancel my account….I’m so disappointed I don’t mind incurring the early termination fee. Come to think of it…they should be paying me for staying as long as I have.

Good luck with Verizon…You’re the kind of customer that I really don’t want calling me, so good riddance! Btw, plans have not risen in prices, the only Rate Plan price increase in the last few months was due to Mobile2Mobile becoming standard on all myfaves family rate plans, causing an increase of 10 dollars in price for each plan…definately a fair trade off since now you don’t have to put your family members on your myfaves. Also, your phones suck. That is all.

This is an article about the Curve 8900 you moron. Nothing personal, but rabid off topic TMO rantings have nothing to do with the new Curve.

  • AgDon

I don’t know that $199 is that good of a price considering that the Storm with 3G is $199. Should be $20-$50 less than the Storm.

  • G1 lover

Why does tmobile customet service suck? And as mentioned before the only plan that went up was the myfaves family plan which now includes mobile to mobile. On the note of the blackberry I can’t wait for it to come out I have a G1 and a blackberry curve and I love my curve. Can’t wait to get my hands on this one. And on a p.s note the only reason tmobile is yet to releade a 3G blackberry is because RIM hasn’t created one for them since the tmobile 3G network has just recently been release RIM is a little apprehensive about attaching their famous blackberry name to it.

I think the 8900 is one great phone even without 3G. Not all cities have it anyway so why should all TMO customers pay for it? One thing I that I’d like is for the TMO to offer another $50 rebate on top of the prices above. And another wish…I hope that a couple of those poser posters above would switch to other carriers if they’re not happy with TMO. That’s a few less complainers clogging the CS line.

  • Taz

I can’t wait to get the 8900. Any idea what the price will be for an upgrade? The 8900 is not listed as of yet.

  • DNICE1979

The storm is not as good as you think it is, I left tmobile so that I can get the storm. The phone sucked freezes all the time, verizon’s plans are way too expensive and their service is horrible I didn’t see any men standing behind me. The storm may have 3g but it’s slow as shit!! T-Mobile’s edge is WAY FASTER THAN VERIZON G NETWORK!!! I’m back with T-Mobile and glad they are coming out with the curve II!!

  • -ray

I was really hoping that T-Mo would offer a 3g curve… Might as well stay with the last generation curve until my contract runs out.. I live in Jax and do not understand why T-Mo has not brought 3g here. AT&T has had 3g here since December 2007…

  • oxfdblue

I’ve used a Storm- it weighs a ton, feels like a brick. Both people I know with it have had nothing but problems- one turned into a brick, the other had to go back to VZ for them to reset.

The iPhone is better but I don’t like touchscreens.

The 8900 looks great. As far TMO service- it is still cheaper than VZ, and in 14 years (Omnipoint to Voicestream to TMO) I’ve never had a complaint.

  • b4u4ever

can i get it without a data plan?
it doesnt have 3g, besides i have wi-fi pretty much everywhere in my college

  • TRobshi

“How come you guys talk about a 1 year contract and when I call the 1-800 number they say that thay no longer offer one.”

There are still 1 year contracts, you can definately do a 1 year contract in a retail store. I thought customer care was the same but maybe they’re not… or the rep you were talking to didn’t know what they were talking about…

Those of you that are so baffled as to why EVERY T-mobile market is not 3G yet need to understand what goes into a 3G network conversion. It is a long drawn out process that takes time and a lot of money. Be patient, it will come i promise. Soon we will all have 3G and cool phones to use with 3G! Our guys at T-mobile are working literally around the clock hardware and software and fine tuning and testing so we can have the best and fastest 3G experience. Give them a break and relax. Soon we will all have 3G! OUR

I agree- that Maximus guy sounds like a whinypuss. Prob still get a** wiped by mommy and daddy, they pay all his bills, bought him a car, what a fagabeotch. Switch carriers immediately or commit suicide- good riddance to pu*sies like MAXIPUSS

  • cyberpyr8

I ordered my 8900 today. I wish it had 3G but if it as good as my 8320 has been I will be satisfied.
