Update: Sorry guys I’m having trouble blowing the pics up, click on them twice…

It would not take very much at all to re-skin it with a better looking case. There would not be a huge retooling of the production line, because you would be keeping the same internals, and the the same frame and structure. I bet they already have the new skin ready and installed. That is why the FCC pictures are accurate. The “leaked” blueprints are for the prototype phone. Just think about this, why would T-Mo release a phone that has been all over the internet for almost a year as the prototype build? Virtually unchanged mind you. They wouldn’t. There is no marketing sense in that. If they are making the next new greatest phone since the Jobsphone, they would make it the flashiest thing out there today. I think we will all be pleased with the finished product.

  • T1 Connect

the jobsphone i like that as far as the fcc i seen the diamond for sprint when it passed the fcc with touchflo in it and all the htc add ons but sprint changed a few things in it since it hit them including no touchflo and even a htc victor look thats no diamonds different color even the face looks a little different from the original plus isnt the fcc all about frequency and not about looks

  • justinhub2003

this is the reason people are so upset about this phone, everyone is expecting this great new device and buuilding it up so high in there heads that nothing that is released will not be up to par and the ones that saying its a prototype are the ones gonna be more upset when its not and this is the real deal. i like the phone i think we get three phone features wrapped in one. the keyboard (sidekick) the roller ball thing (blackberry devices) and a touchsreen ( iphone, etc). i also think that the device it some what shaped and set up like a PC computer with the screen in front, keyboard directly below and the mouse to the right (rollerball thing, cant remember actual term), its different rather than the diamond which is a iphone rip off

  • T1 Connect

@justinhub2006 why do u think the diamond is a iphone rip off

  • remnique

if this was a prototype, why would they brand it. sorry everyone this will be the final version of the phone. the phone is really ugly, it fits in with their #1 phone line, the sidekick. it looks like a toy, which is geared toward their target market, teenagers! think about it, the top 50 apps are mostly social networking apps. i love tmobile, but it is rapidly become bad place for business users.

  • T1 Connect

listen you dont think htc has a tmo logo laying around somewhere that they could just throw a logo on there for executive demo porposes remember the first color phone in the us the scp 5000 i saw it at a convention for sprint branded and eveything final product totaly different im just sayin the dream could be different

  • remnique

that might be true, but you are now talking about a phone that is about a month from hitting the open market, and about 2 weeks from presale, and i am sorry no one will buy the phone sight unseen. the reason you are seeing pics now is so people will not drop $150 for a phone they won’t get for a few weeks after that. face it, the phone is ugly and everyone thinks its ugly, except the fan boys. that is why everyone hopping this is not the final design.

  • SheShe

remnique im pretty sure tmobile will show the final product in an add before the pre sale. it wont just be a leaked photo

  • remnique

i do believe they are going to show the final product before lauch, but what i’m saying its not going to stray to far from this design.

  • T1 Connect

alright next scernario what we see is a prototype what we will see is a surprise entry on mytombile when we go to start the presale and we will see a totaly different phone the presale will be the real revealing of the real phone the the tv ads start rolling so the public can see. remember this phone we see looks not like a fully branded tmo phone but a prototype. its even laying next to two other phones that came out already IN EUROPE and it has signal and no network branding on any screen not even on the home screen no tmo Icons(one again and no sideview for viewing shortcut keys and in the words of the great jerry seinfeld: whats the deal with that?

  • SheShe

i dont think its gonna differ completely but they could make it smoother and sleeker

  • T1 Connect

she she i want u to watch this and tell me what u think and see look at the prototye and get some info from google even the host is dissin the iphone and see what this guy from google says and then look at the phone and tell me if it isnt the same phone

  • SheShe

that is the same phone ive seen that phone alot in demos just this one is in white

  • Ashley

im not completely sure what the BIG deal is about this phone. it looks a lot like the sidekick with a missing side, which seems like it could be odd to type with.I dont know what exactly the Android is suppose to do, and how its suppose to be different from any other phone. Their has been so much hype about the “1st android phone”, but i dont know i just think i expected something a little more impressive. And of course with every other phone out there, when its the 1st phone of its kind it always has glitches and such, i’d probablly wait for the 2nd or 3rd generation to come out before i choose to buy one.

  • james gore

Hey! Hey! F the iphone. Its the google phone not the instinct or the iphone so ye stop. Crying

  • T1 Connect

@she she ya see why i think its still a prototype watch the presale its probably going to be a different phone and can ya please stop talking about the iphone that has nothing to do with us we are tmo customers we talk about tmo stuff here if you have iphone and it says att in the top left corner ya dont belong in this here forum. go away or come to the pink side.

  • Darrell

I highly doubt these pics represent the look of the finished product. I would say that 50% of the appeal of the iphone is the look, design, form factor. So with so much hype for Android, for Google, for Tmobile, and even for HTC., I really cant believe that this is the best they can do. What would seem believable would be for all these companies to agree to create the biggest first impression ever. (In the efforts to try to top the iphone) and in doing so, give some generic pics to keep the buzz and hype alive until the ultimate unveiling. I mean, with the expectations on appearance set low, they will blow people away with a super sleek never before seen design…

  • SheShe

@ashley its not really the phone people are impressed its the OS These are some of the first demos i saw

    http://www.phonemag.com/htc-dream-phone-031838.php

ive been following alot about what it can do

  • needanswer

will it have an onscreen touch keyboard as well as the slide out? and i see you have the 35$ data plan, what if all you want is the internet part how much should that run?

  • T1 Connect

man $35 for 3g and $20 for edge im going with the $35 and we still dont know if thats set in stone and it should have onscreen keyboard it would be retarted to have a touchphone with a non touchscreen keyboard

  • WazzuKirk

I find that phone hot as hell.

  • needanswer

yeah i know that would be stupid to not have the onscreen keyboard, im still debating whether to get this, the tocco, or wait till january and get the leica,
but those plans are pretty expensive considering that im already paying 20$ a month so my family can have texting and then i have to pay an additional 35$ for that…

  • Darrell

in that phonemag.com link, Rubin says a couple different times that its just a reference design. I’m guessing, by reference design, he means just a simple design that allows him to utilize the software via this reference hardware. I’m convinced this is not the end product. There’s no way, they have too much to lose for this to be a flop.

  • T1 Connect

it wont be a flop if this is the final product
custmer surveys will probably be taken and it will be revised too bad u cant send it back for the revised version

  • Rockstar_Mentality

This can’t be it, I’ve waited soooooooo long?!?!? Come harder HTC/Google!!! I still have faith in you but this is unacceptable!!! (I’m still a fan of the OS though it could use some tweaking. Where is TAT’s contributions?!?!?!

  • greg

Were two weeks away from presale… you’re in fantsy land if you think there is a secret design that has yet been seen.

This is the product, like it, love it or hate it. To be fair none of these photos have good lighting, etc. I think the photoshop pics are your best bet to get a sense of the phones look.

  • DR

Why is it so out of the realm of possibility that there is a different lookiing phone waiting in the wings to suprise everyone? Like I said before, it would take very little to take the skin off and make it a great looking phone. The FCC (if you are basing your judgements on the accidentally leaked schematics) is an agency whose main goal is internal electronics and signal interference. They could care less what the outside of the device looks like. If they did, you would never be able to get the external case mods that are prevelant in the aftermarket. If you are basing your opinion on the quality and time of release of the pictures, I again say that there is little change in the overall appearance of the phone from the prototype we all saw almost a year ago. I don’t think it is unreasonable to believe that the phone could change in the 8 months since we first saw the phone. Just because it has T-Mobile plastered on the front doesn’t mean it is the real phone and not a prototype. There is this group called the OHA (Open Handset Alliance.) You don’t think that maybe HTC would offer to make all the carrier members of the OHA a prototype device to help them work on their own versions of Android? If I was the head of a company that had recently announced intentions of increasing sales and brand recognition, I would be handing these things out to carriers like skittles to 3rd graders.

I, like quite a few others, don’t mind the looks of the phone as it stands. But, I think that it is entirely possible that this is not the phone that will be released. T-Mobile has been number one in customer service for quite some time. (I know they recently lost that distinction.) I think they are poised to become a company with a phone that will rival the popularity of the JobsPhone given the right look and promotional campaign.

Either way, I have my $150 waiting.

  • T1 Connect

@DR thank you. dude ive been saying the same thing. the other thing is its surrounded by eroupean phones. that could be a prototype laying around in htc’s test facility and the tmobile logo just tells the workers this is who the carrier is going to be for the internals. once again the phone doesn’t even have carrier id on the screen but it has signal but it is tmobile branded. man thats not the dream. we’ll see the real thing on the presale or a couple of days before.

  • SoccerMomsSuckAMeanDick

It’s the ‘butt’ portion. That lower 1/5th of the phone w/ the function buttons and sensor. it makes it look like a Zune or iPod with an FM radio-tranmitter plugged into the bottom, like that whole portion could snap off. If only HTC had been able to make that part of the phone smaller somehow, it wouldn’t be so unsightly.

Regardless, I’m still interested in the Dream for it’s function and Android. Besides, it may look better in person that in pictures.

  • voodoovixen

According to androidcommunity.com these were apparently found on a Chinese forum thread. Which is probably why they are next to those non-us phones. I’m also guessing its from some sort of testing facility. They probably have a few of these laying around over there. None of which, may I add, have a jogball.

  • Darrell

    greg, you are naive.

  • T1 Connect

dude why naive i mean why

  • T1 Connect

dudes they just released a new rom and ram for the dream from 128-256 rom and from 64 to 128 ram
    http://androidguys.com/2008/08/28/more-g1-specs-than-you-can-shake-a-stick-at/

  • Greg

    @ Darrell: Brilliant.

I take back everything. I absolutly think this must be a prototype…

  • voodoovixen

    @ T1 Connect

Actually they changed that a while back. Which makes me question their “sources”. After all, they denied the thing would be coming out soon, then jumped on the bandwagon later.

  • T1 Connect

it would be funny if it gets released tomorrow and surprise whole new design

  • Darrell

sorry, that was way harsh. Group hug.

We’re all just guessing here, but i’m willing to bet 20 that the phone in the pics will slightly resemble the finished product.

    Please dont hate me….

  • T1 Connect

na u right i do too but thats difinetly not the finished the product

  • SheShe

well im just waitin for a comercial or something… come on tmobile give us some news!!
