I ordered this with overnight shipping…the system will auto revert to standard as the device won’t ship till tomorrow. Might be better to wait till tomorrow to order with overnight. What a pain

    • jawash22

How much was the shipping cost?

      • Randy McCamman

        $24.99

        • Juelz

I got it at my local Sony store last Thursday.

        • Marc Klein

I paid $6.99 for shipping but I’ve had good shipping with them . Ground shipping and I got it over night anyway :)

    • Paddy_Tanninger_Caddy_Manager

yikes, you can’t just wait until the 17th and show up at a flagship store?

      • Randy McCamman

I wanted the free speaker! Heck I like free and the waived my shipping.

  • thepanttherlady

I was soooo close to biting the bullet and just getting this version. It took every ounce of my being not to place the order. It is just too close to the Honami coming that I can’t justify spending $580 on a phone I already have just for LTE capabilities.

    *fingers crossed I don’t cave*

    • jawash22

Is Honami coming to Tmobile? Also, what are your thoughts on the viewing angles of Xperia screen?

      • thepanttherlady

I’m not aware of it coming to T-Mobile. Heck, we’re just now getting the XZ and it’s been out since February. :/ I am using the int’l model C6602 because I got tired of rumors and no action on getting this to our beloved Magenta. This model works well (in my area) that I won’t hesitate on buying a different int’l phone if I like it.

Viewing angles would depend on what you do with your phone. While I can read a text with it laying flat on my desk, I wouldn’t try reading an email without picking it up. I was about to say you can’t watch a movie this way either but I just started one and I can see it fine at about a foot and a half away from me. My display brightness is currently at 50% and I have the Mobile Bravia Engine enabled. Colors are still vivid and images are not blurred. In reading various forums and whatnot, there are those that like this screen because it appears to be more “realistic” in coloring etc. and those that hate it. I’d suggest you go to a store and view it for yourself to see if you like it. I, personally, love it. I like it so much better than what I’ve used before.

      • MO

Xperia screen is good plus they just had a recent update to fix viewing angles.. and im waiting on the i1 Honami also,, i hope it does come to TMOB as well,,

      • Wyn6

Out of the box, the viewing angles aren’t so great. But, I’m not sure how often you’re going to be using your phone while leaning it to the side or at any odd angle other than face-on.

    • Zach Mauch

Are you specifically wanting to stick with Sony? I’m guessing the next nexus will be a lot like this but with LTE and a lower price.

      • thepanttherlady

I don’t like Windows or IOS so that leaves those platforms out. I used to love Blackberry but for me, the Z10 left a lot to be desired although they have come a long way. I have no loyalty to any manufacturer (I am not a fangirl) and was just bored with the Galaxy line. I stopped buying HTC after my very brief ownership of the Amaze (I didn’t like the raised screen) and refuse to buy another phone from them as long as they stick to no SD slots. LG left a bad taste in my mouth with the G2X although I did buy the Nexus 4 while I waited for my Sony XZ. It was sold soon after.

I am truly enjoying this phone but like the specs rumored in the Honami. I wouldn’t count out the next Nexus, even if I only bought it as a backup phone.

Can you tell I like phones? I have a problem. :/

        • Zach Mauch

I’m right there with ya panther lady. I’ve had my note 2 for about a month before I started thinking about my next phone.

        • thepanttherlady

I think I’ve owned more phones in a short time period than most people do in their lifetime. Friends and co-workers threaten me with an intervention all the time. LOL On the other side of the coin, guess who they come to with troubleshooting questions, general questions, and even advise on what phone they should get next? I even picked out my boss and his wife’s phones through Verizon. SMH

        • Trevnerdio

          You dirty traitor! ;)

        • thepanttherlady

Hahaha!! He already had Verizon so it wasn’t like I sent him there. :P

      • mikey

I bet the next NEXUS will be a SONY if its not a motorola. Sony and Motorola are the two major companies left thats been in slumps in the United States. Just check the pattern, Samsung sucked then they made the galaxy nexus, sold decent, galaxy line takes off, LG sucked made the nexus 4, sells great, G line takes off, next would have to be sony or motorola seeing as how the other companies make alot off their own lines already and samsung and htc both have multiple version of their flagships already.

        • B-Mobile

The Motorola X seems to be the next Nexus phone, but the specs don’t say “wow”

          4.7″ HD (720p) display
          1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor (MSM8960T)
          2GB RAM
16GB internal storage with about 12GB usable
          No micro SD slot
          Android 4.2.2

        • mikey

Hopefully not, then they would have both in the google play store, and that would be like selling three different types of galaxy s4 in the same store, oh wait they already do that with the s4 active, s4 zoom, and regular s4, crap we’re doomed.

    • Paddy_Tanninger_Caddy_Manager

makes sense, especially as you’re holding out for another purchase down the road. TMo LTE coverage is not as deep or board as needed for it to be effective for most consumer markets….a nice start, but a big fail in my book. The next 6 months is a telling sign of how much important TMo puts to this LTE upgrade agenda.

    • MO

I have the Xperia Z now for a lil while until the Sony i1 Honami BEAST comes out

      • MO

Plus i find it more cost effective to just buy the phones out right and just sell and buy again… but whatever works for each own

    • Marc Klein

But the Honami (Hope the name changes) isn’t made out of glass. ANyway, with JUMP you can still get both,

      • thepanttherlady

I am ok with that. I’m always worried I’m going to crack my XZ and treat it like a baby. I don’t have JUMP! at this time and if I did, I’m not spending another $580 for the exact same phone I already have to turn around and buy another $600 phone in September.

Ahhhh, who am I kidding. I’ll probably still end up doing it. LOL

  • Chimphappyhour

Seriously considering trading in my Note 2 for this phone tomorrow. I shoot a lot of photos and like to run outside in all kinds or weather (rain or sweat soaking heat) so this phone is looking good. If y’all were me, would you do it?

    • Paddy_Tanninger_Caddy_Manager

heck no. I can’t give up the GN2′s large screen for this.

      • thepanttherlady

I am ok with the 5″ screen but do prefer the 5.5″ of the GN2 for sure.

        • Paddy_Tanninger_Caddy_Manager

thought size didn’t matter for you, but apparantly that 0.5 inches does make a difference.

      • Chimphappyhour

Actually, the only thing that makes me hesitate giving up the Note 2 is the stylus.

    • MO

i traded my Note 2 for the Xperia Z,,, im just tired of the plastic cheap feel phones of Sammy

      • Chimphappyhour

Yeah, that’s something else I miss and haven’t had since my Nexus One, a solid feeling phone.

        • Marc Klein

The GS 3 has a flimsy back. The plastic back already cracked all over.

      • monchis

Did you get a case for it? Any recommendations?

        • thepanttherlady

Unless you get some sort of flip case I personally haven’t found one I like. There are 4 ports (headphones on top right, SIM card on right, SD slot & charging both on left) that make finding a decent fitting case very difficult. :( I just stuck with my usual PhantomSkinz full body protection and had to forgo a case.

Additionally, the more you open and close the charging port (or even the headphone one) you risk breaking it which then takes away the water resistant features of this phone. I suggest investing in a charging dock but the downfall is you can’t use a case in the charging dock. You’d have to remove and put the case on every time you want to charge.

        • monchis

Ugh that is what I figured. I’m also sad that the tmo version does not include the advertised headphones from the Sony site. And I don’t even get the free Bluetooth speaker since I bought from a store.

I’m scared to go naked on this phone !

        • thepanttherlady

I am the type that usually installs the full body shield AND a case on my phones. I haven’t regretted using just the shield on this one. The only thing it doesn’t cover is bezel between the front, back and flat sides. I have no nicks, dents, blemishes etc. I’ve even dropped mine off the couch to a tile floor a couple of times (almost had a heart attack) and there is absolutely no damage. Thankfully the phone landed flat each time.

The shield is only like $25 I think and worth the investment in my opinion. I will say though that I also bought a $30 glass oleophobic screen protector but haven’t installed it yet. Haven’t figured out yet how to continue using the charging dock without chipping the edges of the screen protector. I did buy the one with rounded edges so maybe I’m worrying for nothing.

Does the T-Mobile version not come with headphones? My C6602 model did. I have since purchased a Sony Bluetooth headset because I listen to the radio daily and didn’t want to mess up that port cover.

        • monchis

It does not come with headphones :( honestly on any phone my only concern has always been the camera lens getting scratched :(

        • thepanttherlady

It’s got to be T-Mobile that chose not include them because they come with the other models. Geez!

If you use your headphones a lot, invest in a bluetooth headset. The one I bought was like $60 on Amazon (Sony brand) and I can listen to the radio as well as make/take calls.

        • monchis

Yep but that just means more battery drain :( I would get the international version too but I wanted jump and in my region I NEED 1700 band!

I am really digging this phone though. I downloaded the Google keyboard and I have yet to get lag when texting like all my other previous android phones. (,htcOne/nx4/,N2/g4/)

        • monchis

PS is there a disqus app or something to respond easier here lol

        • thepanttherlady

Not that I’m aware of. I just “patiently” use the website when I’m on via cell. Patiently can sometimes be an exaggeration. LOL

        • monchis

          Haha thanks for the info.

PS yeah when I click camera, I understand what you mean of there’s lag. Though i think it has something to do with sonys noisyness into android. After its opened once reopening is much faster.

        • thepanttherlady

My phone lives in the charging dock when I’m at work. LOL That’s when I stream music all day. Just be careful with the ports, that’s all I can say.

I’m loving this phone too. Hey, do you have lag when opening the camera too? Also, what JB version does the T-Mobile model have? There was speculation on whether it was coming with 4.1 or 4.2.

        • monchis

          It’s 4.1.2

Yeah i can see those ports doors being flimsy. Honestly I’d rather not have them but I’m trading this baby in 6 months okur!!! Stay with the new.

        • thepanttherlady

          LOL!!!

I’m trying to hold out for the Honami i1.

        • gentleman559

The T-Mobile version is running 4.1.2. I went to check it out and I have to admit the design and quality put into the phone are amazing and made me want to buy one on the spot but as soon as i started to play with it I changed my mind. It was choppy when scrolling between screens and I just wasnt feeling that.

  • Lagurl

What do u guys recommend galaxy s4 or this sony phone? I like both but cant make up my mind also does anyone know if its true the screen on the xperia z is bad ? Every single review I read online bout xperia z says how the screen sucks in direct sunlight I hope its not true since I go to the beach a lot . Only thing I like bout the galaxy s4 is that goregeous screen I saw it at best buy they had a few working models in display but I hate the plasticky feel to it , I really like the xperia z a lot and the design more but what worries me is the screen is it really that bad compared to the s4 cuz i think the s4 s graphics look amazing ? Also does anyone know if the xperia z will support HD voice on tmobile cuz I heard the s4 does what bout the xperia z?

    • D_Wall__

      GS4 Would be my preference.

    • Trevnerdio

I second the S4 comment, but the Xperia Z should support HD voice. All new high-end T-Mobile phones do, as far as I know. The S4 also has a bunch of other cool features like multi-window and a mini window for video while you’re doing something else (it’s a great multitasker) and the camera is out of this world (IMHO)

      • David Lebron

The Xperia Z does support HD voice

      • MO

It does support HD Voice,, plus i have it

    • kgibbs29

I am personally so tired of every review subtracting points or giving points for the viewing angle of a screen. GS4 & One have wider viewing angles according to all of the reviews, but it doesn’t matter. For example, GS4 touts the the ability to share stuff (music, videos, pictures, etc.) by touching the phones (basically the Bump! app). So if one shares, say a video, why would I care if the viewing angle is not wide enough for me and the person I just shared video with to both view the video on my phone alone? I would not because I shared the video. Reality is if the viewing angle is wide enough for the phone owner to view items on the screen, then the viewing angle is wide enough. I do not care if the person on the bus, or on the train, or in the seat next to me at a ball game, or wherever else I might be surrounded by people I do not actually know can not accurately view what I am viewing on MY PHONE. If it is someone I know and trust, guess what, I just hand them my phone. This from someone who has a GS3, GS4 and HTC One in their home.

    • eanfoso

If camera is your main thing go for the lumia 925, neither of these mofos equal the superiority of Carl zeiss optics

    • frigadroid

go to the xda web site and read all the pages of complaints about the defective Gs 4 screens.

      • kalel33

You could do the same thing with any HTC or LG phone. HTC phones had/do have horrible problems with quality control and screen bleeding. There was a 153 page forum on XDA about the Mytouch 4G. LG had multiple screen issues too with the G2x. You can’t go to a phone section and not find a multi-page thread of issues with a particular phone. That’s why I never buy a new phone within the first few months. I want everyone else to be the guinea pigs, so I can get the next batch that have the fixes.

  • Marc Klein

NOTICE: Website has been down for the last 24 hrs. If you wanna order you have to call them up but both colors are on back order. Been told more stock will be in within 5 days,.

  • Manny

Wondering if the phone is really good since I haven’t seen or been able to read much on it. Guess I’ll go do my diligent research.

  • TYLERDERK

I have had the pleasure of using the SONY XPERIA Z and it is a sweet phone Best I ever had and I have owned all the top phones prior !
Camera AWSOME! Display works even in direct sun unlike the Iphony ,gs4 and htc one etc,,,
Water proof of up to 3M for 30 minutes!
So far I love this phone!

    • minioninnc

Hey Tyler, Can you tell me if this has any kind of notification lights?

      • thepanttherlady

        It does.

        • minioninnc

Sweet! I like that on the Nexus 4. Thanks Pantherlady :)

        • thepanttherlady

You’re welcome. The notification light is at the top right, unlike the Nexus 4. Really wish this had the notification light bar at the bottom like one of the other Xperia’s I saw. That one is cool. :)

        • minioninnc

It wasn’t the Z though was it? I have my eye on the c6602 on ebay right now. Missed a good deal on a white one yesterday, but oh well. Like what you said in one of your other post’s, the LTE isn’t really worth it, plus I don’t have nothing past the big E in my area, til I head down the interstate.

        • thepanttherlady

          No, not the XZ. :(

I strongly suggest you also get a charging dock. That will help eliminate the strain the the charging port cover from opening and closing it over and over.

        • minioninnc

The one I am looking at comes with the phone dock. :)

        • minioninnc

          And just purchased!

        • thepanttherlady

Woohoo!!! Did you get a white one like you wanted?

        • minioninnc

Unfortunately not, the black one came with the charging dock, while the white one came with nothing. So black it is, but gonna get a white bumper case and change that black a little. :)

        • thepanttherlady

Be careful with the bumpers, especially the aluminum ones. I bought one off of Ebay and hated it. It totally changes the way the phone feels in your hand. I loved the bumper I had purchased with my Note 2 but this one just sucks. It also doesn’t work with every charger (the usb connection on some are too big to full reach the port with the bumper on).

Shoot me an email real quick. Want to ask you something: thepanttherlady@gmail.com

        • minioninnc

          I got pantherlady’s bumper case!!!! :)

        • thepanttherlady

          =P

        • minioninnc

          :-P

        • TYLERDERK

I did get charging pad you are correct it makes things much easier just slide it and it connects to charge without opening port cover.

      • TYLERDERK

yes during charging and lights for notifications different colors you can also down load ( light flow ) and personalize each color for what ever color you want for each notification.

        • thepanttherlady

I never could get the dang app to work for me. I started thinking my notification light was broken (except when charging) but one day I did a back up through the Sony PC Companion and it started working. :/ The only different color I cared about was differentiating between email and text. I use Chomp SMS and get my text notification color through that.

        • minioninnc

Light flow I love! Thats why I was hoping it had a notification light. :) Thanks for your response as well Tyler.

You can’t possibly know what you are talking about. I have been an Android user since the G1 in 2007 and have been an avid Android camera user during the entire time. I’ve been holding out for months on my upgrade specifically for that phone as I was excited at the potential quality that I thought the camera would have. So I picked up the Xperia last night at 7:30 p.m. just before the store closed…and by 11 a.m. this morning I had returned the phone out of total disgust at the quality of the pictures it produced.

Potential Xperia customers do not be misled. The quality of the pictures viewed on the phone itself is nothing short of outstanding. However, once those pictures are viewed after being transferred to a PC via methods such as email, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, or even dragging and dropping them directly from your phone’s memory to the PC, the actual horrific quality of the pictures becomes apparent. So much so that I can confidently say without hesitation that the picture quality from the 3 previous phones that I owned (HTC Sensation, HTC One S, and the Nexus 4) all were considerably better than the pictures from the Xperia.

After much deliberation I ended up swapping the Xperia out for the HTC One. when I return home I immediately duplicated approximately 20 photograph that I had already taken with the Xperia. Once I transferred those pictures over to my PC to view them my mind was immediately blown at the enormous improvement of quality over all of the pictures from the HTC over the quality of the pictures from the Xperia.

In conclusion I would just like to say that I was in fact very impressed with the overall quality and performance of the Xperia otherwise. It felt like a nice solid phone and everything seemed to run very smoothly and quickly as well as the music and sound quality were impressive. But once again, I strongly discourage any consumers who are remotely interested in quality pictures from purchasing the Xperia.

    There’s my two cents. :)

    • TYLERDERK

I own the Nexus 4 and the XPERIA Z and the picture quality worked well on both but definitely better quality photos on the xperia , Did you have a dirty lens or just a broke phone?

      • CAB

Nope. We used a microfiber lens cleaner that they had on the store on both Xperia’s (Mine and the rep’s) and got the same results. It wasn’t just limited to dirty or cloudy pics. The resolution and lighting were also terrible. And keep in mind I was VERY careful to take the exact pics I did for both phones…including distance from objects and time of day.

      • thepanttherlady

I’ve owned both and agree, I definitely like the XZ camera over the Nexus 4.

    • CAB

FYI this was my posting so I have no idea why it came up as guest considering I thought I was logged in at the time. I guess I wasn’t after all. :)

    • kalel33

The G1 wasn’t released until the fall of 2008.

      • CAB

October 2008 to the general public to be specific. However I was a beta user for the G1 and got it and the winter of 2007. I was also the beta user for the HTC Sensation.

  • CAB

Oh and yes Lagirl, the screen was poor quality as well. It had a sightly cloudy glaze in the sunlight and was awful for showing fingerprints. Just FYI.

    • Richard

hmn i just picked up my xperia Z no problems with the camera pics look just as good as any other phone i had ,screen quality is ok not poor but average still works decent out here in sunny LA compared it with my wifes iphone 5 and daughters s4 xperia Z looks better than i Phone 5 but not better than the s4.Maybe the xperia Z u got something was wrong with it? Because mine works good. On mine pics look good, screen good i wouldn’t switch it. My only concern is that i put a screen protector on it if it gets wet will the screen protector fall off?

      • CAB

        Hi Richard,

Yes that was my first thought as well. However one of the rep’s there had an Xperia when I went in to return it so I asked them to take a few pictures with theirs. I did and had him email it to himself while I was there and the same poor quality of pictures came out. I can’t speak on the screen protector question so if I were you I’d Google something along the lines of “waterproof screen protector” and see what comes up.

        • Richard

sorry to hear it didnt work out with your xperia so far im loving mines ,im using in direct sunlight in dwtwn LA no problems im able to see screen fine, call quality is awesome loud clear no static finally able to hear the person im talking too much better call quality than when i had att, data is awesome been getting solid 25-30 mbps dwn ,10-12 up on tmobiles NEW LTE network sO i aint complaining.

        • kalel33

The reviews of the phone are stating the same thing, that the screen is poor and the picture quality is sub-standard.

  • CAB

HTC One pics versus Xperia Z. Pictures taken at the same time of day and I did my best to maintain equal integrity of the lighting and distance. You decide which you think has the best quality camera.

    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jtgk2f1ge8x0ihr/z9IVG6NwCa

OOps sorry posting the link to the pictures again. I compared the HTC One with the Xperia Z. Pictures taken at the same time of day and I did my best to maintain equal integrity for lighting and distance for both.

Also just as an FYI to understand how I labeled the pictures. There are 13 pics with corresponding numbers for each pic. HTC-1 vs Xperia-1, HTC-2 vs Xperia-2, HTC-3 vs Xperia-3 and so on. Where I have the word “Win” by the file is my personal choice of which picture I thought turned out the best between the two. Where I do not have “Win” by either number means I thought they were equal quality for the most part. Again, my personal preference. – Hope this makes reviewing the pictures clear for you to understand.
