Samsung Says Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note Jelly Bean Updates Coming “Very Soon”

During Samsung’s IFA keynote event and in between their considerable product announcements, the company said that Jelly Bean updates for the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note will land “very soon.” This news doesn’t come as much of a surprise, given that we’ve already seen a leaked Jelly Bean ROM floating around for the T-Mobile Galaxy S III a number of leaks that indicated an announcement at the end of August. Still, it’s nice to hear official confirmation from the manufacturer itself and know that “very soon” can hopefully mean sometime in the next month, and not the next year.

Still, US carrier-branded models always seem to get stuck waiting just a tad bit longer than our international counterparts, but with official word from Samsung, we still have plenty to look forward to.

Root your phone, flash a custom Deodexed ROM and voila, you have Google Now without JB.

I had one SGSIII fail me after 2 months. I think I’m going to wait a while before voiding my warranty. (Not hating on the phone, wifi just failed)

P.S.  Google Now rocks, best thing since Android itself!

  • theking_13

Thank the lord. I remember when it took a year to get an update.

I love how Samsung is stepping up its game. They’ve come a long way since their early days of Android…

Damn what about gs2 getting left behind

    • http://tmonews.com David

I didn’t see anything here about the GSII being left behind? Just because something isn’t mentioned, doesn’t mean an update is an impossibility. Let’s wait and see what happens.

Historically Samsung has neglected updates on certain devices in the hopes of consumers upgrading to newer models.  For example, there was no reason for Samsung to update the Galaxy S 4G to Gingerbread but not the Vibrant.  They were virtually the same phone just one with a faster modem.

Meanwhile, HTC & tmobile have nothing to say about 4.0.4 or 4.1 for the One S.

    • http://tmonews.com David

Actually, HTC already said it would receive the 4.1 update already.

      • Nick

Ok, thanks David.  Now that you mention it I do remember reading that a while ago.  Which leads me to point 2 of my gripe:  more frequent updates from manufacturers on things such as this would be great.  An update every couple weeks on the corporate blog would be nice.

  • Josue

you’ll get the update by this same date next year, lmao

Does anyone know if the latest firmware update for the S3 makes it the same as the current one being sold is is the current one still better?
