Nokia Lumia 710 Drops Down To $39.99 On T-Mobile.com

The Nokia Lumia 710 on T-Mobile hit store shelves for $49.99 when it launched three weeks ago as T-Mobile’s newest Windows Phone. Three weeks later T-Mobile is already making some price adjustments to the Lumia as it’s now listed for $39.99, ten dollars less than what we saw last week on T-Mobile.com. There is no indication that the the $39.99 pricing is a limited time offer so we’re thinking it’s a permanent price break.

As an extra bonus, switching to T-Mobile or adding a new line will give you a $50 accessory bundle including a Black Nokia Lumia Gel Skin, car charger and Motorola Bluetooth headset, all free.

    …and it’s reviewed
incredibly well on T-Mobile’s site by over 100 users. The Radar is the same way.
Kind of proves that people actually do like Windows Phone 7. I’m kind
of praying they get the 900/910 when my contract is up in July/August so
I can switch over from Android.

  • http://twitter.com/Lawless_1 Lawless_1

A free Motorola headset to go with my Nokia Lumia? Obviously they are just trying to clear inventory.

    • Tbyrne

Obviously nothing T-Mobile does will satisfy you. Is there really anything T-Mobile does that you like lawless?

  • Anonymous

I want the 900 or 910 I hope Tmobile makes it happen and NOKIA is not crazy to let big red and AT&T have it as a exclusive because if Nokia really wants to move units they need to the phone on all carriers plain and simple.  Then the choices comes down to network and price for the plan and we know who wins with price but we also know who has the better network.

I am interested in Windows Phones but have not yet made the leap. Not sure why, guess I am spoiled by all the maxed out hardware of most Android phones and somehow that is stopping me from trying out windows phone.

    • Anonymous

Don’t let the max’d out hardware fool you.  Android needs all that just to function correctly, and many of the dual cores I tried still lag even with all the enhancement.  Most of the androids I have played with lately continue to exhibit lag and are still not as smooth and fluid as my son’s year old single core 1ghz 512mb HD7.  Go play with one and you will see what I mean.

  • Jon

No thank you. I will not sign a contract for this phone, maybe I would bite had the phone been offered without signing.

    • Anonymous

It is. $199 gets you out the door with the no contract plan =)

      • Michael Prince

@UglyPete:disqus , glad to see someone supporting these devices. $199 no-contract is a great deal, no matter how you spin it.

      • None

I just went to my local TMO store (Baltimore National Pike, Ellicott City, MD) and was told there was NO possible plan, deal, or method to get the Lumia 710 off contract for $199+50card=250.  She said it was 349 off contract, period!  Can you detail this method more clearly?  Am I asking for the wrong thing, Is she/you/or me mistaken?  Please detail what to ask for.  It would be greatly appreciated.

        • Anonymous

They dont read their email. Tell them to ring up an epin50 and the phone. It automatically gives the discount

        • None

Is that a contract of any kind?

        • Anonymous

          No its monthly 4g

        • None

You need to work in my area… these people refuse to do it.

        • Anonymous

Just walk in and say you want to sign up for $50 monthly 4g and want a lumia. They get an activation for it… I don’t get why they are hassling you

        • Foxeh

I don’t get it either, I had to go through four stores just to get someone to humor me.

In the end it DID work.

        • None

..and sorry for so many quesions uglypete, but does that same method go for the radar on only the Lumia?

  • Jgarofola

Is the lumia 710 available on t mobile prepaid? If so how much is it?

    • Anonymous

The lumia is $199 when you buy a $50 prepaid card =) awesome deal

      • http://twitter.com/stevensteve steven

Are you sure? This is online or in-store?

        • Anonymous

In store only. Any tmobile owned store can do it. Even if they don’t know about it. They sell the phone plus the $50 epin and instant discount =) I just sold one an hour ago

        • Foxeh

My grandma needs a new $100 prepaid card for her flip phone. Would I be able to snag a $199 710 along with this? :D

        • Anonymous

Yes lol I do it all the time. Doesn’t have to be a new activation. Just a $50 or higher refill.

        • Foxeh

Do I simply have to buy the two at the same time to get the instant discount? I’m having a hard time convincing store reps to even try it.

        • Anonymous

Yes. The two have to be rung up at the same time and it applies the discount automatically

          Sent from my Windows Phone
          ——————————

        • Foxeh

          Success!

I had the chance to give it one last go at yet another location. They haven’t heard anything about it, of course the reps there didn’t know anything about it, but I got them to at least try ringing up the ePin with the bare phone and BAM! I am now a new owner of a $199 Lumia off contract!

Thanks a million for the tip, UglyPete. Two reps in the store said they were probably going to get Lumias at this price. :D

        • http://twitter.com/timmyjoe42 Timothy J. Bennett

This would have been nice to know when I paid full price for one.  I would have just signed up for a prepaid plan and never used it…  I feel like I just wasted $100.  grrr…

        • Anonymous

Maybe they will be nice and exchange it for you… they will get an activation out of it, so I’m guessing they will

        • None

I was told there was no such method.  I do not doubt UglyPete, but I do not know what to tell them to make them do this??

        • Kyranfoxfire

There’s at least some truth to it, but I’m having trouble snagging this deal myself. The first store I tried said this $50 card + $199 phone was ONLY for a monthly 4G activation. The other three stores I stopped by afterwards were adamant that this deal doesn’t exist even after I mentioned what the first location told me. None of them would even humor me to see if the instant discount would pop up automatically.

Perhaps I should just forget the 710 and get my grandmother’s prepaid account recharged. :/

        • Tmo Needs iPhone

This deal is just with a $50 or more prepaid monthy 4 G activation.

The price is even less when doing an in store upgrade. I believe its $19.99 plus the $18 upgrade fee.

  • http://profiles.google.com/mrstrat Randall Ainsworth

Oh joy…Windows Phone 7. They can’t even give it away.

    • Anonymous

      Troll harder.

It’s something that sucks…because it reminds me of other stuff that sucks. In fact, it sucks in ways that other stuff hasn’t sucked before.

lol, well right now you’re sucking more then a crack troll on payday.

Wow i never thought i would see the day when winblows mobile had fanboys!

        • Anonymous

And you still haven’t since this is Windows Phone and NOT windows mobile.

          Dumb ass.

        • Riopato

Typical ignorant statement from an ignorant troll. Keep using that disaster that was cupcake when Windows Phone Apollo will make ICS look like web os. Windows Mobile hasn’t been around since 2008.

        • Simply

Agree with Randy here. The phone reminds me of his posts.

Insecure much?  or is Seattle really that sad and depressing Randy?

I might feel more inclined to try out Nokia on TMobile if TMobile wasn’t acting so disgracefully regarding the Nokia 5230 Nuron, which I bought from TMobile

Over the past year, there have been firmware updates (2 or 3) throughout the world concerning that phone.  Yet, TMobile hasn’t bothered to update the Nuron since January (or so) of 2011.

    Complete Mickey Mouse crap.

Having been burnt once by the TMobile-Nokia alliance, why would I try it again?

    • http://twitter.com/timmyjoe42 Timothy J. Bennett

I had tons of problems with the Nuron.  The software on it started going berzerker a couple months ago, with no updates in sight.  (Not to mention that the UI was beyond terrible.)

    • Philosoraptor

The old Nokia’s run Symbian.  The new ones, including the 710, run WP7.  Updates come from Microsoft.

Yes, they still have to go through carrier approval but so far the WP7 phone updates on T-Mobile have been very timely and smooth.

      • Anonymous

Don’t blame it on Symbian and the Nuron, E73 Mode and Astound do NOT run the same Symbian. T-Mobile crippled the Nuron beyond belief, even removing the customizable homescreen and limiting all the updates that brought UI improvements.

Also, updates are NOT timely with WP as of late. MS and Nokia have released critical updates to WP and the 710 and TMO has yet to even acknowledge them. One update fixes a text entry bug in WP itself.

Fear not though, this carrier crippling goes on in other OSes all the time, people not getting GB or ICS even though it is released by the manufacturer. Same story, different reader.

Bottom line, don’t let carrier crippling deter you, if it bothers you, buy an unbraded version and get updates as soon as the manufacturer releases them.

        • Riopato

Can you confirm if the bugs are effecting the 710? The critical updates are for certain phones, mostly the first wave of phones that came out last year and specifically the samsung versions. Most phones don’t need this update and the next update would be Tango.

    • Blah

Nuron is the best ever!  I’m on a $10 data plan with unlimited internet and NO contract, it has awesome car navigation… Can’t beat that!!!!
I updated firmware to 40.8.003.c02.01 (for RM-593 tmobile USA)
I found this with “navifirm 1.5+”
I then found an updated version of Nokia Maps v3.06 11wk07 b11
which required me to update all the maps.
      You can do it too!

  • http://www.joshrobertnay.com/ Respawn

Too bad this wasn’t the Nokia Lumia 900, but it’s great to see T-Mobile making somewhat competitive moves lately. They’ve done a lot in a month.

Makes me even more excited for 2012.

  • Ice2cube79

nokia should have atleast brought lumia 800 to t mobile since they having lumia 900 on att i should have gotten the plan by now…

  • Anonymous

Wal-Mart’s in store upgrade price clocks on a $18.99 as told over the phone.

The Lumia 710 is a fantastic deal basically anywhere you can buy it. I don’t know of another phone that can be universally purchased at many online and in store locations at such a low pricepoint and provide so much value and entertainment.

  • Rickepperson2

This is an awesome phone with high end quality OS and hardware. Excellent screen display and silky smooth scrolling. For all who have not tested with the actual device I encourage you to do so. I am looking forward to the 900. This phone rocks. Check it out and you won’t be able to deny the simplicity yet varied capability of 7.5 combined with the Nokia hardware. For under $50 it is a steal.

  • Anonymous

Under 50 for a competent smart phone. great

  • http://www.twitter.com/mrjlwilliams J. Williams

I really like the radar, and would love to try this phone.

  • Vim

I don’t get it.  The 710 gets a small price drop of $10 and that gets covered. The Sensation gets a heftier $50 price cut and doesn’t get covered. The much-loved virtually stock android G2 with its qwerty keyboard gets added back onto T-Mo’s web site at a low price of $49.99 after being gone for months, and that doesn’t get covered either.  I’m a bit confused at what tmonews considers newsworthy…

  • DingleBerry

I bought one under the Monthly 4G plan for $199. This phone (Lumia 710) is one of the best smoothest phones that i have used. I am really impressed. I do wish the screen was bigger though. You all really should give Windows Phone 7 a chance. Try it, you will like it. The reception is great!

    • None

Does the monthly 4G plan require a contract?

      • Foxeh

i belive you only need to get one month of service under this plan. all told, it is still a hundred bucks less than normal price.

  • Blah

This phone would be perfect for me.
Unlike many people, I actually like the smaller screen size even!

But I won’t get it because no-contract plan on my nokia nuron is so cheap.
Love the driving navigation on the nuron too.
$10 unlimited internet data plan included.  I can’t get anything like that with this right?

  • Anonymous

I bet this price drop is likely due to poor sales.  I don’t think they want too much overhead this time of year.

    • Anonymous

      You’d lose that bet.

      • Anonymous

Not necessarily, sir dax. Another thing to consideration is that even if it is selling well, it doesn’t mean they are selling enough with respect to how much they ordered. A product may “seem” to sell well based on a single busy retail location, however it doesn’t mean that it represents the whole sale dynamic of said product.

    • Tmo Needs iPhone

Working at a store, I can say that Lumias are selling well actually. I’m very surprised personally. But we sold out of our initial inventory in a couple days and habve been selling them fairly consistantly.

As a side note, while many on this site and others seem to think that high end phones sell more, the truth is low end phones sell a greta deal more then high end phones.

      • Anonymous

Yes but modern retail has separate inventory systems from retail. I’m sure online sales factor in. It’s all about the bottom line.

        • Damien

I can tell you from a customer service side that it’s doing very well.  Not Galaxy S 2 well but I’m seeing almost as many accounts with the lumia as I do the Amaze and that’s in the short time it’s been out.

        • Anonymous

That may very well be the truth but there is always the case where they aren’t satisfied with the projected return on investment. They analyze not only quantity but also likelihood of it going stale at the drop of a hat. For the sake ad satisfaction of pure curiosity I’d love to see official sales figures, however unlikely that would be.

        • Matthewsj

I see you’re trying hard to convince yourself.  Keep it up.  You may be on to nothing.

        • Anonymous

Not really. Jut having a conversation, but I suppose you can’t seem to handle that. By simply expressing my ideas and opinions I’m merely interacting with the local commentary environment. It’s also called debating and I don’t need to convince myself of anything. I wouldn’t expect you to understand. I’m just going to assume your are primitive.

  • William Cron

Walmart has a better deal right now. $18.88 for new contract to 2 year extension, and you get a $50 Walmart gift card with purchase.

  • Vim

When I’m signed in, I see the 710 on T-Mobile’s web site for 19.99 as a 2 year upgrade.  Pity it’s not my cup of tea.
