Hell yea can’t wait to get it and people were complaining that the “crapdragon” wasn’t gonna hold its own it even scores higher than the others

    • Rex

Crapdragon! That’s a good one! I’ve always been fine with a Qualcomm if it meant peak 4G speeds.

Thats cool and all but I’ve seen Euro GSII’s score over 5000 when clocked at that same 1.5ghz.  Just sayin.  I just hope it’s not laggy like the Sensation.  I don’t believe it will be cause it’ll be using Touchwiz instead of Sense.  I’m waiting till I’ve personally driven this thing before I decide to pull the trigger on the Tmo version or the ATT one.

Doesn’t matter if they’re both clocked at 1.5Ghz. These are two different processors with different CPUs and GPUs. Frequency means nothing.

    • Ruiz

Weird, I tested two of ours. Both got around 2500 the first run, after 3 runs they both hit over 3700.

FWIW, my sensation with cm7 at 1.78ghz hit just over 4000. I’m anxious to see what the sgs2 can do with 1.8ghz.

      • Anonymous

SGS2 should hit more score over sensation because it has less pixel count.

    • http://tmonews.com David

I can’t explain how people are getting these scores. It’s highly unlikely that someone was able to hack the phone to get these scores in the span of a couple of hours. Other than that, I don’t know what else to tell anyone.

      • David W

The Quadrant score for the Telus GS2 was in the low-to-mid 2000′s, if I recall correctly. Now, to be fair, it is entirely possible that was done with a non-release version of some software elements. I think, however, someone needs to release some verifiable numbers. I’m just not sure I can take the 3800 score at face value.

      • Robert Turner

Quadrant can be easily hacked to only run a few tests in order to report a super high score. Quadrant is not reliable.

    • Anonymous

Same here!!!!!!!! Our store received a ton in stock. Popped one open and was disappointed in the 1900 quadrant score. WTH?!?!?!?!?

5 months tops, with 2 more processing cores and 84Mbps HSPA capability if/when it comes to T-Mobile USA

      • Anonymous

if it was 5 months tops… it would already be out in Asia and Europe. This phone has and will be the best for a while. However, it is impossible to think that you could buy any electronic device these days and not expect it to be outdated in a few months

        • Anonymous

I guess you aren’t realizing that the original Galaxy S II was announced in the first quarter of this year and we’re getting in in the last quarter of this year.. do the math

        • Anonymous

Right, it was announced in January. That was 9 months ago. Which means that if a new one was coming to America in “5 months tops”, it would have been announced 4 months ago. Go back to 1st grade.

    • Ramiro

6 months tops! thats how often I get new phones if not sooner, I don’t know how ppl keep their phones longer than that, it’s beyond me!

      • Dave

IT’s called not having infinite money. I’ve had my current phone over two years. No way I have the financial resources to waste $$$ on new phones every six months.

        • Anonymous

When you take into account the fact that you can sell it 6 months later for a good $400, its not really that bad.

Quadrant and most other bench mark scoring systems are highly inaccurate. The power 540 vgx gpu still has the highest gpu on gl benchmark. Higher then the galaxys 2.

Don’t go by benchmark scores just play with the phone and don’t be so techy

  • Anonymous

And where are the people here who were crying, “CURSE U TMO, WHY DIDN’T U PUT EXYNOS in YOuR SGS2″??? Now eat your words…

And please don’t forget the G2 who uses SNAPDRAGON, the most overclockable CPU I know. It made 1900Mhz from 800Mhz stock.. I am expecting huge overclock gain for this new Snapdragon..

I also make 3000+ Quadrant at 1.5Ghz in my G2 just like the guy below. Needless to say, the only thing that has more in Exynos over Snapdragon is PUBLICITY and HYPE..

    • Michael Pitts

the snapdragon is overclocked at 1.5 the Exynos is clocked at 1.2 and I get higher scores then this. with a overclocked kernel at 1504ghz I scored a quadrant score of 4500+ the Snapdragon is only scoring as much as the stock exynos processor when equally clocked there is no competition.

Still wish someone could come up with the off-contract price for this beast. I went to a local TMO store yesterday and asked if they knew, and one of the reps told me they got their retail shipment, took one, and tried to scan it through their point-of-sale system to get the off-contract price and nothing came up.

I suspect someone knows, but for whatever reason, they’re keeping it close to the vest.

    • kir

      probably going to be $550 – $600

$229 w/2 yr contract. I dont know if thats after of before a mail in rebate.

    • Boogsephine

Phone prices don’t show up in inventory or POS until they day they are released. I’ve had numerous people come in and ask me the pricing of the device as well. As far as the invoice price, it’s $549 if I heard correctly. Employees pay tax on the full invoice price even though we get it at a discounted rate and that was the price that was given to me by the Samsung Rep.

I wonder why is the quadrant against all those old devices. The scores are outstanding, but seriously compared to what? It’s not like any of those other devices came out this year like the HTC Evo 3D, HTC Thunderbolt, etc. etc..

I would love to know why Quadrant hasn’t been updated since the Droid X.  I guess it was just abandoned.

      • http://cosmicbreeze.tumblr.com/ DtheArtist

Not to burst anyones bubble about the SGII……but everyone is so geeked up about these benchmark scores and for me……it doesn’t factor in too much on a day-to-day use.

I work for TMO and in between customers and down time (at the store) I spent my time comparing the Amaze and the SGII .  We don’t have a demo unit so we took a new out of the box, put a sim card in it and got it going.  I did speed test, camera, browsing comparisons and unless you consider fractions of a second/seconds to be a determining factor, these two phones are so close in performance, that either one is a WIN.

Personally, I like the look of Sense over TouchWiz and I own a Samsung Galaxy S4. I prefer the app drawer of Sense and some of the things they do differently. The hardware buttons on the Amaze for camera a video and great…especially if you love to take pics and videos.

I will admit that the screen on the SGII is just amazing.  If I was to get the SGII, I would definitely have to download a different launcher….like I did with my SG4.

As for the form factor (in the hands), the Amaze feels much better than the SGII but heavier.

I’m going to spend the next 3-4 days running more browser test and other things and then make up my mind. Lucky for me, I can get some real hands on time with both before deciding.

    • Miro

is the Amaze 4G as heavy as the HD7?

    • Drew

It’s not so much everyone’s geek up over the benchmark scores as much as they are wanting to shut up the nay sayer’s as it relates to the Qualcomm vs. Exynos chip. I personally could care less as long as the phone is fast.

Posting a good score will silence the critics and allow the rest of us to go on and enjoy the phone without having to hear what (they think) is good about it and what’s not. We know the Exynos chip is the better one but the Qualcomm chip is more than holding it’s own…

Difference between Exynos chip and Qualcomm. Samsung will (actually already has) release the source code for it where as Qualcomm, the last I heard, half-asses it.

    • Kahala74

What about typing comfort/speed?  I’m a longtime blackberry user and switched to android briefly when they only had 3.7 inch screens.  Made too many mistakes when typing so I switched back to blackberry.  But I miss many Android features.  Is the extra width of the 4.5 inch SGII more accurate to type on?  I’ve seen photos of the 4.3 inch Amaze and it is not as wide — I assume the keyboard keys would appear narrower than the SGII’s keys.  Can you let us know which device you would prefer to type long emails?

    • Kahala74

What about a Speedtest comparison of 4g with the SGII vs. Amaze?

    • Anonymous

It’s like getting an Acura TL with a Lexus engine, or a Ferarri with a Porche engine. Sure it works just as well, but it’s not what you paid for. T-Mobile USA should lower the price on the SGS2 to match the core difference. But, seems like nobody cares if they got ripped off as long as it’s pretty smooth.

  • Ogzgtp

So I have a question. I really don’t want to do an ETF just to get the s2 on another carrier. Is the new chip really that bad that the phone geeks are bad mouthing it? Will it be to the point that I buy it and think it’s a slow phone that plays videos and such horribly? Or would I be happy with it? I don’t think I’d root it because I can’t afford to mess up expensive phones. Is the different in chips like a 100% drawback as everyone makes it out to be? If the SG2 with exynos is at 100% awesomeness where does that put T-mobiles? This is in the case of someone who wants a phone that will be fast and stay fast with good performance when watching netflix videos and what not. I feel like when people talk about gpu they are saying the S2 with exynos is like a $1000 graphics card and the S2 with qualcomm on T-mobile

    • David

I think you’ll be happy with it. It is the fastest phone T-Mobile will have. The processor is just not as good as the Exynos in graphics performance. But if you don’t expect to play 3D games the clock speed of 1.5 GHz should help you perform similarly to the Exynos at 1.2 GHz. Plus you get the ability to get 42 Mbps (lol). http://www.phonebuff.com/2011/09/t-mobiles-samsung-galaxy-s2-vs-sprints-vs-atts/

  • JeffK

This phone is fast, but it is way too large physically to be useful.  I mean, it will break in pieces and will never fit in a pocket.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EATJMQSEGT6AASY4PYSQ56C564 Robby

very true, they shoulda kept the screen at 4.3

      • ecd

Couldn’t disagree more, not simply from me picking it up in the store BUT from the reps AND several people near me who have bought it or tried it also and said, the size is definitely an issue, due to the rounded corners, its thickness, and it is much more durable than the Vibrant.  Besides, we all agreed, who’s gonna carry that without a case

        • http://twitter.com/JamesCBooth James Booth

I’ve dropped mine so many times and keep it in the same pocket as my keys…No scratches on the screen and have never had an issue with dropping it either. This thing is to nice to “cover.”

    • http://twitter.com/JamesCBooth James Booth

I love the screen size. After using it for a few weeks I love the screen so much that I love how big it is! It is very useful and I have never had any issues with fitting it in any pocket. The thing is virtually indestructible as well. Gorilla glass is solid!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Big_9_er

Dude, take oof those skinny jeans and wear some man’s pants. Then the phone will fit in your pocket with ease.

My G2X did 3800 right out of the box. So this is not much of an improvement for being a 1.5ghz dual core. I dont dare over clock my phone’s processor. But if I did, I bet it would be very impressive.

1.) It takes 3-4 months for the cyanogen mod team to reverse engineer the new OS coding to be made suitable for the majority of devices.
2.) The Nexus Prime is coming out no later than the end of November according to Schmidt.
3.)  Samsung knows that Steve Kondik works on Cyanogen.  They would not have given him the job if they even thought that he would take their proprietary coding and both took advantage of it for free as well as made it open source in doing so.
