MyTouch 4G Slide Unboxing

Update: It looks like they (may have been forced to) set this video to private.  We will update the video when it becomes available again.

The guys over at Wirefly have done it again, unboxing a phone a little bit earlier than they probably should have.  Well, I’m not complaining (I don’t think you are either) but this time they have a MyTouch 4G Slide in hand.  They don’t go into much, but they do give you a great overview of the hardware.  Look for this one on July 27th.  It looks good to me, what do you think?

Hmmm. seemingly there aren’t any headphones included in the box…

That isn’t a big deal for me since I don’t even use the ones that came with my other phones but it is a surprise none the less.

anyone know how much ram sense 3.0 uses ?

    • Anonymous

A LOT!!!!!!!! I was checking out my friends Sensation that he had just opened, he hadn’t even installed any apps yet, I checked how much RAM was available out of the 768, there was only 206 Mbytes available. Now, this was with NO apps downloaded, so imagin, you download your apps, get some running in the background, these phones are going to lag you right out of your socks!!!!! these phones are good for rooting, just so you can put Stock Android on it, that way you don’t have Sense eating up all that RAM. I put stock Android on the Original Mytouch 4G, and this this is faster than most phones out there, even with their dual cores. HTC needs to step up to 1GB of RAM already. Especially with how much of a resource hog Sense is. BUT, Looks like this phone runs it A LOT smoother than the sensation for sure.

      • http://twitter.com/Smooth3d Deon Davis

Yes it does use up ram. But what is the use of having ram if you dont use it, Just to look pretty? The os will allocate the ram as needed. I have the MT4G with full unity 3.0 sense rom and I have zero lag.

        • Drlewistwo

Was gonna say the same thing. Gonna get the sensation bc of the build (aluminum). And what ive read, only 1.5g is for app storage.

      • Lolocabra

this one has an expreso 3.0 so it’s smoother than the sensation 3.0 anyways like deon says what’s with the ram if u r no using it and u have a lot of power on the cpu and the gpu so the ram is irrelevant you never feel the lags.

        • malakaa

ahh, i was assuming it was looking smoother than the sensation only because of the lower resolution being easier to render.
my friend is using launcher pro on his sensation, hopefully i’ll be able to stick with sense 3.0, because i am a fan =)

whats up with the crappy 1gb internal storage? id say one of the few things the vibrant got right was the 16gb internal storage.

    • http://twitter.com/Smooth3d Deon Davis

I have yet to fill up my MT4G 1.2 gb of storage. Its plenty esp with most bigger apps having apps to sd.

    • malakaa

there will be 4GB total, 1GB is usable so that the phone never slows down from you putting as many apps as you want.
you can always get yourself a 32GB SD card for media.
i own a mytouch 3g slide, sure, the phone is pretty smooth out of the box, with a minimum number of apps that i need and use, i only have 38 MB left on my internal storage; so my phone is now running at what seems like half speed.
1GB is plenty, as you can use it all up without worrying about slowing down.
i feel like the 4g slide will be the phone to end all phones =)

    Some quick thoughts:

    1)  Sense 3.0 actually looks pretty damn sweet from the few seconds he showed it.

    2)  If this one does, in fact, only come with 1 GB of internal memory that would be a huge fail.

    3)  I wish the screen was a whee bit bigger than 3.7 inches (did the logo/top block box really need all that legroom?)

    4)  The front looks JUST like the MyTouch3G Slide (kind of cheap) but the back looks pretty nice (wish they made the front look more sleeker or professional).

    5)  I can’t believe Bob called the charger, “attractive”. haha..

This looks pretty slick.  May have to get this one for my wife since she is quite unhappy with the mytouch 4g and this seems to address many of the issues.   I just wish they had changed the front a bit from the mytouch 4g.

I am very interested. I maybe typing the from my Sensation but I cannot say I would mind using this either.

This is much better than the sensation.

    • Guest

I wouldn’t go that far. It’s essentially a Sensation with a keyboard and a smaller, lower resolution screen.

Overall, I’m totally impressed with this phone.. I mean dual core, slide out qwerty k.b., great camera, all in one device..

Bob from wirefly said he’s testing the phone over the wknd, so hopefully his review will be up by monday *fingers crossed*

I plan on being a first day adopter(if we ever get a release date sheesh), hopefully I won’t get bit by any of the bugs that plagued the g2x.. Guess that’s the price you pay to be on the bleeding edge of technology.. End rant.. lol

    • Kevinmarchibald

My main concerns are whether the Sensation’s death grip issue plagues this device as well, and whether the boot loader will be unlocked out of the box. I’m hoping the battery life will be better than the Sensation’s due to the smaller screen and lower resolution, otherwise I’ll wish I had the bigger, better screen.

      • Jarrod

I think all HTC phones suffer from the death grip. I have the mytouch 4G And it will go from full signal to no bars

Sorry, T-Mo fans… we had to make the myTouch 4G Slide video private for now but will make it public again on Friday, July 15. Sorry about the confusion, but we want to keep our friends at T-Mobile happy.

      • WireflyBob

The nice people at T-Mobile asked that there be no videos until Friday, and we want to keep them happy. The good news is that I will have a review ready to go at that time, and maybe a Schmackdown.

The myTouch 4G Slide goes on sale July 27, so there will be lots to look at before the phone actually goes on sale.

Let’s talk about a Schmackdown video for a moment: What phone would you like to see in a myTouch 4G Slide Schmackdown? Sensation? HTC EVO 3D? iPhone 4? Original myTouch 4G? (Don’t bother asking for the Samsung Galaxy S II, as it’s not available in the US.)

          I love a OG Mytouch 4g and a Droid 3 schmackdown

        • Anonymous

Yep, I agree — the obvious comparison is against another dual-core qwerty-keyboard phone, and right now that’s the Droid 3.
Otherwise the comparison will have to include stuff like “the mT4G Slide is a lot heavier and thicker than the Galaxy SII….and touch-typing is a lot easier on the mT4G slide”.
          Compare apples with apples.

        • malakaa

you have to show the iphone 4 just to prove how bad it is =) or atleast compare the photo quality please

is the beige version of the phone going to be available on the 27th or is that going to be released a month later like they did for iphones?

  • Fazelove

noob question here but will this have an unlocked bootloader?

IMO, the specs looks good, but the design kinda sways me away from it… looks like a teenybopper phone… something that could replace the sidekick line (well don’t have the swirl or pop up screen…). I think if the sensation had a slide keyboard, it would be more attracting. but for the price, i’m going to get iphone instead… been using android for awhile now… want a change lol.

why are you being forced to wait until friday? there are already a handful of camera and software reviews floating around. but they are all bad. tmo should just let wirefly post up a more legitimate one already.

all the ones i’ve seen so far seem impromptu and do not demonstrate alot of the camera features =(
