ZOMG!!! Netflix Is Beginning To Rollout To Android Devices

It isn’t often that I write about Android specific apps here on TmoNews but Netflix has a special place in my heart for being one of the awesomest services available. That’s right I said awesomest. The app just hit the Android market and T-Mobile customers currently using a Nexus One, G2 and Samsung Nexus S can grab the app right now. On the Netflix blog they explain that the app is currently limited to phones with “requisite playback support,” and hope any “technical challenges will be resolved in the coming months.” Netflix anticipates it will be able to “provide a Netflix application that will work on a large majority of Android phones,” in the future.

Go. Get. It.

idk how it does not work on the MT4G since it has the same hardware as the G2 just that the MT4G has more ram, and it’s processor is clocked higher.

how can we tell what is the correct ap? Not fair that i can’t play it on my rooted mytouch slide but my bf can play it on his stock g2. boo!

  • http://twitter.com/StevenGarone StevenGarone

But… The G2X is stock Android. Why no love?

    • thereddoor719

Only qualcomm snapdragon processors are supported.

      • http://twitter.com/StevenGarone StevenGarone

I don’t want that to make sense, but yeah, we’ll have to wait.

        • Thereddoor719

That’s what I read in a Nexflix Blog, they said that it was due to security issues. But you are right Nexus S is not Snapdragon.

      • http://twitter.com/StevenGarone StevenGarone

Wait, what about the Nexus S? That’s got a hummingbird processor.

  • http://twitter.com/GDHussak GDHussak

This might just be enough to get me to sign back up with Netf….oh, wait, it’s not available for the Vibrant or G2x? Ok…moving on.

  • Trevor

i dont see the app in the market :(

  • Maschwar77

And no love for MyTouch 4G users?

UMMMMM, it’s not on the Market for G2 or Nexus One. I have both. Non-Rooted.

Its def in the market for the g2…i just installed it. If u search for netflix app, it shows up in the market…its a bit hard to find though

  • Robotate

This works, and works well on stock g2 over hspa+ here in santa clara, CA.

It’s pretty far down the search results since it still has <50 downloads.

  • Fbarkon

    What about g2x?

    • http://twitter.com/AndrewLenhardt Andrew Lenhardt

nope wont let you download with the g2x, just tried by using the direct link to the android market

SUCCESS on the G2 and Nexus One. Some people may have an Android Market app update. On my G2 i did, on my Nexus One, i can’t spell.

  • http://ashn.myopenid.com/ Ash

    I personally don’t use this.

But good, this will shut the trolls up about Android not having it.

    • iShrooms

Yeah really, like what’s left — “oh Android doesn’t have iTunes”. Pffft. That’s about all they’ve got left :)

  • Guest

Works on MT4g, just backup the APK (apk share) and put it on the MT4g, then install, sign in, and you are good (for now)

    • Guest

I take it back – it starts to play, but then the video stops and it goes back to video selection. :(

    • Jbcubs32

how i do that i am new on this

Search for Netflix in the Market, it away down in the results, but it’s there. Watching Toy Story 3 on my G2 right now! Great app…

Well, any word on if it’s coming to the Sensation?

    • Myself

Isn’t the Sensation already going to have some sort of streaming movie video service? Granted its not free, but seemed pretty reasonable, like $1-2/movie. Should hold us over til Netflix works out all the kinks…

  • craigers

It is inconceivable that they would not develop this for the MT4G as one of the first phones. I’m a long time Netflix customer but I swear sometimes I really wonder about them. They never seem to have an eye towards the future and new technology.

  • Meisterman09

    Yes! G2 FTW!!!

Working on HD2 running CM7, it’s about time. This is the main thing I missed from running Windows Phone 7

  • http://cosmicbreeze.tumblr.com/ DtheArtist

    I upgrade to a G2(x) & I temporarily get pushed out the loop :/

    • Chrisrj8084

Just download the apk from XDA

      • Michaeljsletten

        doesnt work

      • http://cosmicbreeze.tumblr.com/ DtheArtist

Yeah I was just about to say somebody did it didn’t work, but @e0c0ff3adead6a0dd18e6f01d5776a1c:disqus already said it. I don’t have a subscription no more anyways, lol.

  • Drunkconquistador

Downloaded on my G2 as soon as I read this, speed-tested myself at just over 5 MPS on our Salem, OR HSPA right before launching the app, and enjoyed buffering- and lag-free streaming while I waited for my tires to be fixed. 45 minutes of viewing took a disgusting bite out of my battery life, though.

Not to complain, but what’s with the lack of support for phones that are, oh, I don’t know, way freaking superior to mine?

give xda 20 min, it will be available on all phones.

how funny is it that my mytouch 4g is newer than most of those phone and im not a approved phone …..FAIL

    • Fred Gennille

cause our phone is so awesome it takes longer for them to make an app that can handle the awesomeness.

  • mmeyer4663

    Wooo hoo!
Loaded the apk from XDA on my HD2 running NAND Froyo!!
    Bring on the Sensation!

  • Anonymous

My N1 is loving this just watched some of hot tub time machine on it lol.

  • darkjuan

Well It loaded up fine on my G2, but when ever I try to play a movie it only plays for a few seconds then crashes and goes back to the home screen….

    • k-mack

this might be related to a compatibility problem with CM7 G2s with video playback issues.  i am having the same problem.

      • O0cynix0o

I believe that has been taken care of….

  • MT3GS

Instant unexpected stop on my Slide – I guess I can’t stream till I get my Sensation…. :*-(

  • http://twitter.com/Reptarjr Jay

Now watching Toy Story 3 on my G2 via Netflix. Awesome!

  • Sami Abuzeineh

Just got it on my Nexus S. Works great!!! flawless!! Been waiting forever for this app

  • Alex

Funny HBO’s app works flawlessly on my G2x and Netflix cant get their stuff together.  Come on Netflix cant be that hard.

  • SabsWifey

I have a mt4g & I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to log- in and see a selection page & the option to resume the last thing that I was watching. I didnt get it to continue, but I did get to the screen that had the title, point I last stopped off and the ‘play, ff, & rw’ buttons. I just hate the fact that I was DUMB enough to buy apps that stream shows & movies! I thought that Netflix said existing devices didnt have the right stuff on them (drm?) to start streaming. They made it seem like only new devices would be capable of doing so. I was on the verge of canceling my subscription.

    • Joe

I tried on my MT4G and got a message saying that it wasn’t available on my device. Is your phone rooted?

      • SabsWifey

No. I didnt find it in the Android Market though. There was a link on either the Android Central or Engadget app that I clicked on while using my phone.

  • Inchrist6

why is it approved for the nexus s and not the galaxy s? Basically the same phone right?

working so smooth on my HTC HD2 Android.

    • Wizzstar

I believe the TMOUSA HD2 running Android GB 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 users are the big winners with the new “Netflix Movies/TV Episodes streaming Android app” … Just think, if you have a TMOUSA HD2 packing HD2/WP7/GB Android/Spb 3D multi boot super system, then you will have “Netflix Movies/TV Episodes” either way you turn. As said above, their is not to much the TMOUSA HD2 cannot do.
