T-Mobile Revamping Prepaid Plans On May 22nd

When the clock strikes May 22nd T-Mobile will be making a few changes to it’s high end prepaid offerings. The current $70 plan which offers unlimited talk, text and 2GB of data will be extended to allow unlimited data. The current $50 plan which offers unlimited talk, text and 100MB of data will be upgraded to allow for throttled data beyond the 100MB limit rather than requiring an early refill or the purchase of a $1.49 DayPass for 24 hours of web access. Nothing huge but who are we to complain about T-Mobile upgrading their prepaid plans?

These plans will take effect may 22nd!

JUST ANOTHER WAY FOR THEM TO DIG IN YOUR POCKETS !!!

Were you dropped on your head as a kid? Ate paint chips?

      Just curious.

niiiiccceee T-Mobile now THAT’S how you do it!!

  • http://profiles.google.com/nuotang Nuo Tang

Does 1.9Gb of data really cost $20? I think we pay alot for data in the US.

    • Jarrod

I agree in the uk on three you can get 15gigs for £15 on a mobile broadband plan

    • http://ashn.myopenid.com/ Ash

If you check carefully, and not just assume.
You will see there is no fine print on T-mo’s site stating that throttle after 2GB or 5GB.
      Well, unless t-mo changes it.

  • Addicusbrown

Great news. Unlimited means unlimited and it’s nice to see a telecom company actually represent the product properly!

  • swehes

Will they start throttle after 2GB or 5GB?

    • http://twitter.com/SParKlngCyaNide SparklingCyanide

Probably 2GB going by their Policy for new plans but at least they’ll LET you throttle past and not just shut it off. This is PrePaid we’re talking about after all. Still a fantastic deal

  • RJ

Yeah, I’m pretty sure this is them trying to save people some money. 20 dollar price difference and eliminating having to buy day passes for data, can see how that’s “JUST ANOTHER WAY FOR THEM TO DIG IN YOUR POCKETS !!!”

    • http://twitter.com/SParKlngCyaNide SparklingCyanide

how many aliases do you have troll?? LOL smh : )

      • RJ

@SparklingCyanide I don’t know who you think I am, but thanks for calling me a troll. I’ve Never commented on anything here before, and I was quoting the first comment.

Still… throttling after 5GB is better than throttling after 2GB. To all those calling it unlimited… it’s not TRULY unlimited it’s throttled after you hit 5 GB. Just sayin’…

    • http://pharaohtechblog.blogspot.com/ Conan Kudo (???????)

The prepaid offering isn’t throttled AT ALL, unless you do something horrible to their network. Check the Terms and Conditions if you want to make sure.

  • IamtherealDavid

Wait a second…its 79.99 for 2G, unlimited voice and 2G data on a normal plan and 70 on a prepaid? for unlimited data? Phone subsidy…what is the EM+ plan.

I need glasses! Wait, think its time to pull my battery. G2 is no longer operational. Darn it!

What advantage does this have over Simple Mobile? Roaming? Conditional Call Forwarding?

    • Jarrod

I’m sorry but what is conditional callforwarding? I have had my mytouch since December but have no clue what that is

      • Anonymous

So, I will explain the 2 biggest gripes that those of us that have moved on from T-Mobile to SIMple Mobile complain about.

Roaming – On SIMmo you do not get the benefit of roaming on AT&T towers in areas where SIMmo (T-Mo MVNO) have poor coverage. That alone keeps most people on T-Mo regular plans. But, a lot of us that live in T-Mo strong areas, like NYC, don’t really care.

Conditional Call Forwarding – This is something that is RARELY given to Pre-Paid plans. It allows you to assign a number to which your call will be transferred in case of certain conditions (i.e. Busy line, Phone off.) and allows customers to use 3rd party voicemail providers like YouMail or Google Voice.

Another feature that would sway me back, even though the plan is $10 more than SIMmo, would be WiFi calling being available on these prepaid plans.

So, anyone have any ideas about these features?

        • Sorven

Yeah, I’ve got wifi calling on the optimus T. Its a phone thing. If the phone has wifi calling installed, it also works for prepaid

        • Anonymous

It’s not a phone thing. It’s a Phone/Network thing. I have Wifi Calling on both my Vibrants. They don’t work on SIMple. They did on T-Mo.

  • Volcom8886

I haven’t been throttled down after 5 gigs but i have the tethering plan i want Sensation but waiting for benchmarks with final software.

  • http://ashn.myopenid.com/ Ash

Wow, for the web70 plan, I can’t find the fine print that states: throttle after 2GB or 5GB
    We’ll see on May-22.

  • Maschwar77

I hope my Even More Plus plan does not disappear. I like it. The prepaid will not have the same roaming capabilities.

  • Anonymous

Wait…is it 100% “unlimited” or “semi-unlimited (with throttling point)” on $70 prepaid plan?
How about postpaid plans with “unlimited” internet???

  • TypicalWhitePerson

Actually, this is a GREAT DEAL starting May 22nd. If you compare the rate plans from the Prepaid, Even More and Even More Plus (FlexPay) offerings, this is the more bang for your buck… especially if you already have a T-Mobile capable premium smartphone to use with this plan.

T-Mobile Prepaid: $70 Unlimited Talk, Unlimited Text, Unlimited High Speed 4G Data (No throttling of Web usage). No contract required. Plan will work with any T-Mobile or unlocked GSM device.

T-Mobile Prepaid: $50 Unlimited Talk, Unlimited Text, 100MB of 4G Data and Unlimited EDGE speeds after 4G speeds throttled. No contract required. Plan will work with any T-Mobile or unlocked GSM device.

Even More: $99.99 Unlimited Talk, Unlimited Text, 5GB of 4G Data and Unlimited EDGE speeds after 4G speeds throttled. 2 year contract required. Subsidized phones available.

Even More -Truly Unlimited: $79.99 Unlimited Talk, Unlimited Text, 2GB of 4G Data and Unlimited EDGE speeds after 4G speeds throttled. 2 year contract required. Subsidized phones available.

Even More Plus: $79.99 Unlimited Talk, Unlimited Text, 5GB of 4G Data and Unlimited EDGE speeds after 4G speeds throttled. Month to Month- No Contract. $5/mo Control Charge. No discount on T-Mobile handsets.

Even More Plus – Truly Unlimited: $59.99 Unlimited Talk, Unlimited Text, 2GB of 4G Data and Unlimited EDGE speeds after 4G speeds throttled. Month to Month- No Contract. $5/mo Control Charge. No discount on T-Mobile handsets.

T-Mobile Prepaid: $50 Unlimited Talk, Unlimited Text, 100MB of 4G Data and Unlimited EDGE speeds after 4G speeds throttled. No contract required. Plan will work with any T-Mobile or unlocked GSM device.

Prepaid customers will get the last laugh on this one, especially account holders on the $70 REAL Unlimited prepaid plan. HA! Anybody on a 2 year contract, does NOT have anything “truly unlimited”. You can always get good deals from eBay or Craigslist to by ANY new premium handsets for these plans. Oh yeah, did I mention NO CONTRACT… yeah I did. Hahahahaaa!!!

    • Wzehnder

No control on even more plus….the control charge was only for flex pay

      • TypicalWhitePerson

Dude, I had to pay a control charge because I wouldn’t sign up for “Easy Pay” (auto bill payment). I just rather pay my bills on my own.

      • TypicalWhitePerson

        • Guest

Currently i am using EMP family 1500. I don’t pay control charge. It is for old flex pay customers.

        • Wzehnder

That means you have crappy credit and was flex pay

  • Mopar6464

I have the $9.99/month Web2Go on my HD2 and go over the 5GB plus tethering and i never get throttled.
Wonder if they don’t bother throttling the internet2.voicestream.com data.
Damn , that new plan sounds like a complete ripoff.

    • Mopar6464

^^^ Forgot to mention i surf 3G all day long the same as T-Mobiles higher data plans with no speed differences or restrictions.

    • Anonymous

are you on prepaid or on an actual plan? And if you are on contract shouldn’t it be revoked. I have an hd2 as well, and with all the android roms it’s become a legend.

      • Mopar6464

I am under the $59.99/month unlimited everything loyaty plan and not under contract.
When i bought my HD2 outright (no contract) the T-mobile corpoate store set me up with this plan and even told me since i’m not under contract i can change the apn settings to the Web2Go data and get the same 3G service and speeds for $9.99/month instead of the $30.00/month contracted data plans. And he even set me up to tether and showed me how it works.
At that time before T-Mobile changed their rules on tethering and started charging new customers for the same service, it was no big deal to tether with WM phones and T-mobile really did’nt care. They just would’nt offer any information about it when you call CS.
        So No i should’nt get revoked .
The T-mobile corporate store sold the phone to me and set me up with everything so if it’s not good , then they lied to me and they were in the wrong. I have never gotten any text, letter , or anything about tethering and it’s been this way since the HD2 came out and alls been good so far.

        .

        • http://ashn.myopenid.com/ Ash

T-mo is good like that, once you are in, you ARE in.
They won’t change your plan or “upgrade” your plan to “help” you use your phone better…..unlike ATT.

        • TypicalWhitePerson

Wow!! T-Mobile is the best at that.

  • AdrianMT4G

Can someone please tell me how the current 70 dollar plan is unlimited w/o throttling if it clearly says 2 GB behind that X? I’m so lost…

    • Skip

It’s unlimited TALK and TEXT WITH 2GB of internet….

      • AdrianMT4G

I was aiminng that at TypicalWhitePerson from their comment below. They said its unlimited 4g web.

        • TypicalWhitePerson

It will be Unlimited 4G web (no throttle) added to the $70 plan on May 22nd. Right now its 2GB of data with current $70 prepaid plan.

        • Turdnugget0420

You unfortunately have no idea what you’re talking about. The plan before had only a certain amount of data and then you were shut off or had to pay extra. Now they are changing it just like postpaid plans where it’s unlimited but they will throttle you.

        • TypicalWhitePerson

Turd, actually I do. And if you read my comment, you would know that I stated that 2GB is the max data allowed on the $70 plan at the moment but will be unlimited after May 22nd. And according to the terms and condition as well as a confirmed T-Mobile rep, there is no plans to throttle the data as of now. But, yeah if they do decide to throttle 4G speeds, it will be atleast at 5GB.

        • TmoChris

dude are you seriously thinking tmobile isnt gonna throttle speeds on a “PRE-PAID” plan lol , they do it to post paid customers after 5 GB (who pay alot more money cause their not poor) if one of our reps told you that he obviously thought you didnt know much and wanted to make a sale or he was retarded too.. lmao dumb as a @4521c7e92414d0650668e67385e7b780:disqus

        • Dennis

Poor are the ones who can only afford penny phones and have to sign a 2 year agreement in order to get a cell they can afford. I paid $200 for my pre-paid cell which I took the sim out of and use in my iPhone that I got from a pawn shop for $100 because some poor guy could not afford his contract phone, now I pre-pay $50 a month for unlimited everything on a iPhone that most postpay $100 a month for 400 min, 1000 txt, and maybe 4 gig data. Both phones paid for themselves in 6 months then the next 18 months compared to your contract is half what you pay for your rich people phone plan, its not a rich or poor thing its a smart or dumb thing, so think before you talk. So whose poor? Sounds like you are a sore loser.

    • http://ashn.myopenid.com/ Ash

Hello? That was the old plans under the X.

  • Anonymous

i was mad with myself because i lost my even more plus $71W/ 500 min talk unlimited text and web and i have to get the prepaid W/ unlimited talk &text only 2g of data but now TMO you give us this great deal news and with it give me back my happines too. NO!!!!! TO THE MERGER WITH THE F****ING att.

    • TypicalWhitePerson

Dude, how did you lose your EMP 500 min plan? Just asking because I was a Even More Plus customer for the month of January, February and March after my Even More contract ended in January. I was paying $69.99 for the 1000 min Unlimited text/data plan and paying a extra $5 control fee because I refuse to sign up for auto bill payment. I switched over from EMP 2 months ago to the $70 unlimited Talk, Text, 2GB data prepaid plan because there’s no extra fees, I talk a lot, plus 2GB was enough for me considering when I’m at home or work, I use WiFi on my Nexus One, BB 9780 (which I got for free with no contract extension), or my unlocked iPhone 4 anyway. I could’ve got my EMP plan back, but I refuse to pay for extra fees, and the prepaid plan route is just better IMO. I have no attachments to T-Mobile what so ever, its like a joint venture to me lol. Now the I’m bout to get it ALL UNLIMITED on May 22nd. SWEET!! Haha but yeah, just askin’ and just sayin’.

      • Anonymous

the thing bro, I don’t like the contracts, so, I got this plan when I bought my N1 like 1 year and half ago or so, but when google make the google voice app I start using it to make calls. at this time just needed the data to thetering my computer and laptop so I was only paying my bill every 2 or 3 months just for them not cancel my plan, but the last month i forgot pay the bill on time and they did it

  • NardVa

Is the new 70.00 plan really unlimited data or does it get throttled at 5GB?

  • http://twitter.com/mrjlwilliams J. Williams

Glad to see they are doing it up, they are really trying hard to get new customers. I like it.

  • Kelz

    “Your data
service may be slowed, suspended, terminated, or restricted

Just because it doesn’t say 2GB or 5GB doesn’t mean that it won’t happen and instead of blaming/crying/whining that TMO is trying to rip people off, you should thank those people across the country who ABUSED their web (when there was a soft 10GB cap). Can’t really blame TMO from not wanting to be taken advantage of anymore….Mobile phones just ARE NOT a replacement of home internet to me.

  • Jackfrost

Hmmm, so, if I have an unlocked iPhone, I’m stuck with the edge speeds…but the edge data is unlimited. It is only the 4G data, which I can’t get, that has the limit. So for $50 per month I can get unlimited voice & text and Data on an iPhone. Right?

    • TypicalWhitePerson

Yeah thats right. I got an unlocked iPhone 4 as well, and starting May 22nd, the EDGE data will be unlimited on the $50 plan. If was to put the sim inside… lets say… a myTouch 4G, then the first 100MB will be at 4G speeds.

      • 10ways2Sunday

Did anyone find the definition of throttle in terms of speed? On 3G, throttle is to Edge speed. If you get 4G for the first 100mgs, is throttle to 3G? I know, I know, wishful thinking.

  • ArkAngel_X

Im not changing my plan one bit, we got a granfathered unlimited plan with TRUE unlimited, so, i wonder, when i do get my upgrade this month to the G2X, will my 4g Speeds be unlimited as said true to my grandfather plan?

    • TmoChris

dude this are pre-paid plans are you retarted lol

  • Fragger

Guys, this is great news. Especially for folks like me, who are considering going back to Tmo for the Sensation. I have 2 questions, I hope someone can respond:

    1. If I buy a Unlimited Call/Text and 2GB current prepaid plan TODAY, then when I refill after 30 days, will it be converted to a 30 day – Unlimited Call/Text/Web? Or I HAVE TO buy AFTER May 22nd to have unlimited data?

    2. Two different Tmo Reps online told me things differently. One said that prepaid customers get “Lesser form of internet” (Yes, those are her words :P). That means the G2, for example will NOT get the 4G (HSPA+) speeds on the prepaid plan. The other rep told me that there is no difference in features, quality, and support, between post and prepaid. Postpaid just gets more International countries to roam in.

Which rep is correct? Thanks for everyone’s help!

    • Rose032385

You will only get the 4g internet if you have a 4g compatible phone. I had the first generation iphone and that phone only runs on edge not on 4g. As a result my internet was super slow. So to answer ur question, it has the same quality and features depending on your kind of phone.

      • Mrsrich69

Also you have to be in a 4g network coverage area. I have a 4g HTC MyTouch but my area doesn’t have the coverage so I’m using 100mb at 4g speed after that my speed is 2g.

     i’m curious

i just checked in on this at a TMo store — the salesperson there cautioned me that if i converted over to this plan, the insurance plan would *not* be available!!

    can anyone verify this??

also.. is there “any” way to get insurance if its not available through TMo? say.. third party??

  • Mrsrich69

Well now TMO has a $70 plan with 5gb at 4g, I’m on a $50 plan with 100mb at 4g data would upgrading to the $70 a month be the best one.
