Motorola Cliq 2 Owners, Motorola Needs Your Help

Motorola Cliq 2 users out there listen up, Motorola is looking for 200 able bodied individuals to help test the first software update coming to the Cliq 2. This update is mostly bug fixes, software and battery improvements. While it isn’t Gingerbread we have a hard time complaining about anything that makes our phones more stable.

If you’re interested in being a part of the beta test subscribe to the thread at the link we’ll provide at the end of this post. Some of you might get chosen to help! For the rest of you keep your fingers crossed that this stability update is a precursor to something much better, Gingerbread anyone?

Oh, man, I would love to use my Cliq. Bought one and went back to my old phone bc the Cliq crashed every five minutes.

You know this is the Cliq 2, right?

(I’m not sure there are 200 people out there to test this.  The Moto forum for the Cliq 2 is pretty dead.  I guess that means people aren’t running into many problems.)

      • Jacseamit

Thanks. I did mean Cliq 2. Mine froze constantly. I had to call 911 once, and it froze. Not just a bad phone, a hazard to one’s health.

My daughter is on her third Cliq 2. Every one of them has/had the problem with the non-responsive touch screen. Inconvenient when trying to end a call or when taking video since it usually takes a battery pull to recover. Motorola sent me an invite, probably because I was one of those few who had posted about it on the Motorola forum.

you bought a Motorola and a lower end one at that… what did you expect

        • http://profiles.google.com/claudiamarie64 Claudia Carvalho

What I expect with any phone I purchase: to work properly. I’m not asking it to sing, dance, or make my morning toast. We’ve had good success with Motorola phones before the Cliq 2 (DEFY and the old RAZRs), and the reviews from users and tech blogs on the Cliq 2 were decent.

        • Carmen Diva

Claudia, you are responding to what we call a fanboy….He/she deems Motorola as inferior.
I’m guessing they prefer HTC, maybe?

Sorry to hear about your phone situation. My little brother has a motorola cliq 2 and
had it since it first came out a few months back and loves it…he dropped it so many
          times and it works perfectly.

        • rob

I feel bad for you. I had the original cliq and experienced it’s many problems. I was surprised to see a 2 come to T-Mobile. While Carmen makes a point about Apollo being a fanboy, motorola’s products are inferior mainly because of their own software implemented on the device. The droid 2 suffers from bad battery life and lag because of this, it’s not just the cliq brand. While the original droid still performs decent because it uses google’s stock operating system.

I’d recommend checking the forums before any tech blog review as they only carry the phone for about a week or so and normally there isn’t many problems then. While the forums provide feedback from users who use it everyday for months. I’m sure you’ve seen this now after you’ve had your problems with the cliq 2. You would have seen the problems with the cliq and probably stayed away from the second version.

        • http://profiles.google.com/claudiamarie64 Claudia Carvalho

I usually do read forums (the best ones are on the T-Mobile site itself, especially if you wait for a while before purchasing any phone), in addition to tech blogs, and pride myself in keeping fairly up to date on all things mobile tech. But we bought the Cliq 2 shortly after it was released because the price was right and reviews were good. I admit it was a leap of faith. Live and learn. Thing is the screen responsiveness issue didn’t show up right away with any of the three phones, and until it did, the phone worked snappily; my daughter was happy with it and still is when it’s not acting up.

After my experience with the Cliq, I can’t imagine there being 200 people out there with a Cliq 2 to test the update on.

1 thing that I’ll never understand is how it’s possible for Motorola to create such wonderful devices for other carriers, but T-Mobile gets the bottom of the barrel junk phones?

    • Anonymous

the real question is why tmobile accepted the phone in the first place.

  • AdrianMT4G

Why is the “Cliq” line even in existence still? #ImJustSayin

  • http://twitter.com/Nottystar Simone

who in the world still has this phone! lol it is the worst, I’m glad I got rid of mine..

1 or 2? Either way.. the 2 is a big improvement over the first.. I mean I still wouldn’t pick one up though..

have they actually sold 200 cliq phones ?

  • RonCorn

There are people out there that STILL use this phone???

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Simon-Yu/100000989859895 Simon Yu

      it’s not the original Cliq.

  • person

Thanks for making me feel like crap about my phone :P Whatever i still think it gets the job done. Texting, web, calls, and some apps.

    • http://twitter.com/timmyjoe42 Timothy J. Bennett

the phone has worked pretty flawlessly for me

  • http://twitter.com/jhaught80 Jeff Haught

After having the original Cliq, I vow to never own another phone in this line. Never.

    • rob

Got rid of that POS and went with the Nexus S, doubt I’ll ever get a non nexus phone. Though what HTC has done with their sense ui is very promising with the sensation. Just don’t think I’ll be able to give up my instant updates.

How nice of them to serve up some gratis bloatware with the update!

  • Fish

If 200 people actually bought this phone I think we can all agree tomorrow really is the end of the world.

Man this phone is really getting dissed.  I own it and I’m happy with it.  Apparently I’m one of less than 200 people according to many of you :)  I realize I can have something faster and with a bigger & better screen, but for $50 on Amazon Wireless, I think I got a pretty good deal.  Then again, I’m probably not as hardcore a user as most readers on this site.  Looking forward to the update.

    • MIKEEEEE

@moro80, i’m with you, just bought one on ebay.
      @36511907c35b7170b9dbb87157728d11:disqus
it has more features than my DEFY and MOTO phones work really well in weak coverage areas.

right now, i switch off between my CLIQ and DEFY every few days because i love them both.

if the CLIQ2 pans out, i’ll recoup some of the cost by selling the CLIQ.

Title should be “Motorola, Cliq owners need your help!”

Horrible phone, had to get exchanged 3 times over the course of a year. Gave in and bought Samsung Vibrant full price. Best decision I’ve ever made.
