    nice.

  • Which way is Up?

very nice deal indeed. t mobile really is a great company, if you use the right attitude, you get pretty far with them and deals like this are just awesome.

    • Guest

+1 on if you use the right attitude, you get pretty far with them.

Got this deal two weeks ago asking about the BOGO G2 offer. 22+ months on contract (full upgrade eligibility) still applies.

yes the right attitude makes them really easy to work with

  • im on the even more plus but since they are now switching people over im sure i can take advantage of this.. waiting for callback….

    • I did not get the deal. I am also in the Even More Plus Plan and the rep was trying to sell me the phone for $179.99 + $18.99 upgrade fee + $15-$20 more per month on the new plan x 24 months. Well that = $608 to do this so heck no! :) I tried to mention the Loyal customer program and he did not acknowledge it so I guess is who you talk to.

      • uDummy

so keep calling until you get the right person!

I did that way back in the day when the G1 was just getting Visual Voicemail and you could only get it by calling… the first rep was clueless. So I hung up, called right back, and the next rep knew exactly what to do. Voila.

There’s a part of me thinking that I should take this deal just to sell the phone elsewhere (it would help pay for my Venue Pro :) ), but I don’t want a contract. No way no how.

  • Roshan

Worked for me! Even let me put the contract on one line and data on a non contract eligible line. Free expedited shipping. I cant ask for more. I was bummed I didn’t get the Nexus S but FREE is even better.

    • My home line is upgrade-eligible, but obviously I would want the phone and data plan for my wife’s line. Think that would work, or is this what you did?

      • Roshan

I dont know if what I did was out of the norm but basically what I told them was I wanted the Nexus S but I am not fully upgrade eligible so I couldn’t get it. I also said I was willing to settle for a G2. The guy said well if you wanted to put one of the fully eligible lines I had on contract, he could give me the G2 for free and also put the data on my line (I have data already). He also kept the same price I was paying for my data which is $25.

Try it, when you say “contract” it takes you to retention/customer loyalty.

  • Trunks

sweet mine is on it’s way! Thanks!

Thanks for this. New G2 on it’s way set to arrive before Christmas. Simply say contract after pressing 1 for english.

Mine is on it’s way– I hope I’ll be pleased. I picked up the Touch Pro 2 right around this time last year and regretted it terribly.

    • Erica

I am like you. I bought the Touch Pro 2 this past March and have regretted it seriously. It was fun in the beginning but soon the problems starting showing up (signal issues, battery performance, sluggishness, etc). The breaking point came last month when I had an email on the phone that I could not delete. I just wish I had seen this last week when I begged CS to send me the new BlackBerry Bold 9780 I got last week (and if this deal was applicable to any smartphone).

Soooo…. one of you bought a TP2 late 2009 and the other in 2010…. no offense, the nicest thing I could say to you both is… read more news and keep ahead on the newest phones.

And Tmo CS is great… the salespeople in the stores are SALESPEOPLE and would sell a blind man binoculars if they could.

  • bmg314

Tmo is usually like this if you speak to them respectfully. I actually got mine back at the end of October the same way.

  • erica best

wow just called and got my g2 thanks so much.

  • MAN cursed contract, i have to wait 9 more months till im outta contract, he said he could get me the g2 but for 260 >_< and couldnt upgrade another line as the data is tied into the contract

  • Rosario Lopez

THANK YOU! I just called and got my sister her G2 for free. It was actually pretty easy too, no arguing or anything. Just said contract, said I heard it was free and it was that simple. She wanted it for Christmas but I couldn’t afford it till next week so you just saved me $200 plus she’ll have it on Christmas day.

  • very tempting…but of course the guy told me i needed 2 year contact and a data plan. I’ll wait a little longer before i use my upgrade. But hey its free : )

    • bkeny01

Its really funny that people still think they are getting a “cheaper” deal on the phone. if you sign up on or extend for another 2 years u are paying an extra $20.00 a month compared to some1 on the even more plus plan which is $20.00 a month cheaper….why u ask….that “FREE” or whatever the discounted price is u will make up by 20.oo extra per month on your plan cause u are pay full boat for the phone…do the math YOU WILL PAY FOR THE PHONE….if you were a phone maker would u just give a $550.00 phone away I dont think so..

    • Anonymous

I stay on the “contract” plan because I’m on an old plan that is cheaper than the even more plus plans. I was still able to use the method of talking to the loyalty department to get $100 off my G2 a couple of months ago. Still was able to use the $50 rebate on top of that too.

Getting super cheap phones and paying less than even more plus prices. T-Mobile loyalty is great! :-)

    • Ultimate Darkness X

Hey guess what, if you are only saving say $5 a month…that adds up to only $120 in the two year timeframe….Hmmm…$399.99 (or whatever price) to save $120 in the two years…So in the end you end up spending $279.99 more over that 2 year time.

Oh Man….it worked. I upgraded my phone back in July and didn’t think I’d be able to get a free G2…but I did!!! It was easy and painless….extend a contract for another 24 month and you get the phone!!! Thank you T-mobile and thank you tmonews.com!!

    • Jessica

Yeah they wouldnt let me upgrade cause I upgraded a year ago and they said that I would need to have my phone for atleast 22 months! So how did you talk them in to it? I have had Tmobile for 10 years now.

  • Just got off the phone. Signed up for the contract and now getting 2 G2s, one for each line. Going from the MyTouch3g and Cliq to G2. Thanks TMoNews!

  • Lawrenceh@gmail.com

What is the number. The number 1800-tmobile # told me that there were no offers right now.

So what am i missing here?

    • Dima

How long have you been with T-mobile??? This goes though a loyalty department for long term existing customers.

      • larry

4 years. how do i get to loyalty department.

        • GiordanoTJ

Give 611 a shot, that’s should send you to the automated system, just say contract and you should be sent to someone

  • hmm, well i see i could potentially get it free even if im not eligible for upgrade, as some people have, but idk…should i wait to see wat comes out next month or get it?

  • Swapngreendotcom

lol it’s 1-800-T-Mobile, and is the phone really free wow, I want to get one today that is so nice, well don’t forget we will buy your old phones at swapngreen.com

  • CityGirl

Thanks for this! I’d been looking about a month ago, but can’t afford $200 for the phone AND an upgraded plan. I’m out of contract right now, but was waiting to re-up for another two years until I found a good deal. And here it is! Really appreciate your posting this. I just told the (very nice) CSR I heard they were having quite a deal. She laughed and told me it was free. So, yeah, I’ll be paying an extra $20 a month, but I would have had to do that anyway, going from a Samsung Blast to a smart phone. Nice to get the smart phone for no additional money. Nice Christmas gift to myself… all thanks to you, TmoNews.

  • Pvl109

I’m surprised it took so long for this to appear here. The g2 has been showing up for free on the CLT que for about a week already. Who ever did the math for the free phone needs to rethink… Free g2 check…$20 web over 24 months $480..phone retail is $499 on even more plus …plus you still gotta add the web or not but why get a g2 with no web.

  • I’ve wanted a G2 so badly, but of course i’m broke right now and can’t afford 30/month extra on my bill = even with the phone being free =(

  • rickb928

Wow. My wife’s contract finished last week, and mine at the end of the month. Should I be caling Loyalty before expiration or after?

Obviously I can’t tell them how much I loathe the competition… But my wife really does want an iPhone. I need to have her sit with an Android phone for a half hour and hit all the stuff that her Curve now gags on to prove to her the experience is ‘adequate’.

  • loves t-mobile

Just got a G2 FOR MY BROTHER

  • Kingdynasty@ymail.com

Anyone in newyork new jersey area try this cause they act like they have no idea what am talking about

  • Gottalove4g

Thanks for a answer in advance we

  • TMoFan

Wow, what a great deal. I can’t call now, but hopefully it’ll still be there when I call in later. I was looking at the Vibrant, but I was weary of the phone to begin with and now even more so with the failed update that had to be pulled.

  • GiordanoTJ

Awesome! Just got my new G2, been waiting for some time for a good deal and this is probably the best! Thanks for letting me know TmoNews!

      • Stratspider230

Yeah, no charge on ANYTHING AND they reduced my internet from 25 to 20 a month. All I had to do was renew a two year

    • really? like did they offer u to pay first then slowly lower price?

      • Stratspider230

        No, completely free.

Thanks for the info. I called in and got a G2 for my wife and they gave us free expedited shipping. It will be her first android device since the E7 was delayed. She helped me get my N8 for Christmas and now the favor is returned. We had to let go of our t-zones but an extra $14 a month isn’t too much for my wife. Thanks David and team!

I just called and she had no clue what I was talking about, but did try really hard to sell it to me for 249 with a 50 mail in rebate.. Didn’t have much to say when I told her I just bought it for my husband for 99. lol

  • heybobitsme

I can’t believe it worked! I’ve been waiting for this! My wife and I have been unhappy with our Slides (145 MB internal storage, are you kidding me!?) and can’t afford to get anything better! I called 611, from my G1 ironically enough, and should have our G2’s by Xmas. Thanks for the info!

  • Will

Just got mine =D Thx David for the heads-up. The rep was, as they always are with me and I mean ALWAYS, amazingly polite and helpful!

  • Brad

worked. was only 13months into my current 2yr contract. free g2, no upgrade fee. did have to pay shipping. said i would be able to keep my 19/mo grandfathered BB data, i think. asked a couple times and they kept saying yes i could keep the 19/mo data. then at the end said i would need to call to switch to android data…would be a bummer if i get stuck on the 30/mo data.

  • g2ftw

$49.99 for me after $50 MIR. But I’m still 10mos in my 2yr contract. not bad. plus no upgrade fee, free express shipping and $20 android data.

  • Dverlj

No Joy for me. T-mobile rep said (very nicely) that she had no idea what i was talking about.

  • cthomashowell

Worked for me. Didn’t have to pay anything and no MIR, but had to threaten to leave which I am not a fan of doing. Moving from my n900 which I love but is not the best “phone.” Looking forward to trying android coming from maemo.

    • master

Same here. Im going to try to get this deal but my N900 will still be the beast in the house! lol i will have to go with android or WP7 for now until Meego comes ^_^

      -MASTER

      • cthomashowell

Yeah, the n900 is a great internet (best, short of most recent flash source) and multimedia device (2nd best, IMHO), but my work demands a more consistent communication device. I am a little apprehensive about Android after enjoying the flexibility of Maemo, but it is light years better than WP7 and iOS on that front and if it doesn’t work out I will sell the G2 and move to the 2nd iteration of Meego (learned my lesson with Maemo prior to PR 1.2).

        • Drew

Yes, I’m still loving my N900 after almost 9 mos but I keep looking at the G2 and the Nexus S. I think I will take advantage of this and get it for my wife (she’s using my hand-me-down 9700). I’m excited for her to finally enjoy SOME of the perks that my “All-In-One” device provides because there’s still no device that can do what the N900 can do…

Does this work on a flexpay account

      • cthomashowell

I don’t know about the flexpay as I am on the Loyalty plan. Found out talking to the rep I have been with Tmo for 14 years! I didn’t even remember having a cell back then.

  • Loitanvo

haha im only 18 months into my plan tried callilng twice and they said the same thing :( it was worth a try though. :)

  • Dverlj

On my second try they verified the deal and are taking care of me. T-mobile may not have the as extensive a network as Verizon, but their customer service reps are always the nicest and most cooperative. I spent several years with Verizon and Customer Service alone will keep me with T-mobile.

  • Gordomao

    I Had 3 Full Upgrades
I Got 3 Free G2s (and totally free, no upgrade or tax YES!! I love you TmoNews!, Tmobile!)

I just called asked for the loyalty department, and when I spoke to the loyalty department the man acted like he was giving me a secret deal, but I didn’t tell him I knew because TmoNews already informed me, I let him keep his giddy excitment lol.

    • Guest

I just talked to two T Mobile reps and a supervisor.

They tell me this is not a current promotion. They think it is a HOAX.

      • Gordomao

It is no hoax, keep calling and just hang up if they don’t know anything. Make sure to ask for the loyalty department. The quickest way to get to the loyalty department is to say your thinking about canceling your contract.

      • Marvelous0ne

I went through what another here posted about using your cell and dialing 611. I did that and said when asked what I was calling about. I said “Contract.” I was taken to a nice lady after waiting a couple minutes and asked her about my contract. After telling me I told her I heard from a friend about upgrading my phone through you and that you have a special for those T-Mobile customers who have been with them for a while. She told me about the G2 offer and how I can get it for free for just extending my contract for 2 years. I told her that’s cool and asked how to get it. She told me. I followed what she said. And boom! Will be here either Wednesday or Thursday! Awesome! And I was upset about missing the phone being offered for $50 last week!

man. wish i could use my dad’s upgrade. sadpanda

  • Bigguttz

TmoNews u rock! Just grabbed 2 G2’s, free expited shipping, and got all 4 lines on acct reduced to $20 android data. Just dial 611 from your phone and ask for “Contracts” when prompted by auto-teller… Now on hold trying to get the Tab billed to my account :)

  • Mardenator

wait, could i use my dad’s line and get the phone shipped to me, and then activate it on my line?

    • Collin

yes, all you would have to do is plug in your sim card. you gotta have a data plan on your line though

      • i already have a G1 with $65/month plan. but would they activate the G2 on my dad’s line?

  • About to tell my sister. I already got a G2 for free on Friday, after Cliq troubles. Does it work if you only have a partial upgrade?

  • Collin White 63

worked 100%. called and got my mom the G2 for free with free expidited shipping for xmas. will be here wednesday. Have to have not upgraded a phone for 22 months and be willing to 2/yr contract extension. thanks tmonews

  • mrSkippo

stupid question, but what exactly do you tell them?!

    • All I did was mention that I’d heard there was a deal to upgrade to G2 if my contract was up for renewal, so she looked & said I qualified and then must’ve looked in the system to see if the deal showed up. She had no idea about it before my call but found it there. I don’t think if I’d been up for renewal anyway that I could’ve talked them into it though! I paid $5 for ground shipping and renewed my 2-year-contract, but that was it! It took 10 minutes.

    • yeah, i’m about to call them. what do i ask? “Hi, can i get that free phone i read about on a tech blog?” lol

      • CityGirl

I just told them I heard they had “quite a deal” on the G2 and she knew what I was talking about. Told me it was only because of my long-time loyalty to Tmobile that I qualified, so I don’t know exactly what defines that. Good luck!

    • Julia

I just said, hey I’m looking at upgrading my phone to the G2 because I need physical keyboard & want 4G speeds, what is the price for it? She said, “let me look, wow.. you should be very happy with the deal I an give you, it is free, with no upgrade fees & no shipping charges!”
I didn’t have to ask for the deal specifically.

  • Pjmandrik

I tried three times…. even threatened to cancel (nicely)…. they tell me since i upgraded 6 months ago im not eligible for a free phone. I complained about how crappy my slide is and how i feel as if i was dooped. still no luck

    • Sidog

you must be on a qualifying line in order to take advantage of this…meaning you must be out of contract with them.

      • Jessica

Apparently this is not the case for everyone though?

  • Wow, this is awesome… my G1 has been on its last legs for a couple of months now. I thought my contract might not be up for renewal yet because I originally bought it in March (2009), but they said I qualified and it was totally free! I did pay $5 shipping but I don’t care about that. The rep who helped me said she’d never heard of this deal before I called & couldn’t believe how awesome it was… she was surprised since she’s in the loyalty department but didn’t know about it. She let me keep my plan exactly as is too… almost too good to be true! Thanks so much for posting this!!

Might be a stupid question, but what phone # do you call? My blackberry is currently out of commission so I will need to call from my land line.

Worked for me. I’m not eligible for an upgrade until July, but have been w/ T-Mobile / Voicestream for 9 years. FREE phone and FREE express shipping…..GREAT deal.

    • Jessica

see they are apparently very selective Cause I am not eligable until May and they refused to give it to me? Ive been with them loyally for almost 8 years!

I have now spoken 2 customer service reps in regards to this and they are refusing to get me a new g2 I have had my account for 7 years always pay my bill. I paid full price last year for a cliq (which i hate it doesnt even have the option to upgrade to Android 2.0) I have had issue after issue after issue with this phone and the two people I have spoken too have only offered me the first $50.00 off then it changed to $200.00 off which is still $300.00 for the phone. T mobile is one of the worst companies when it comes to being a long time customer and always have been. They have finalized my descision on moving over to verizon when my contract is up in January.

    • Ultimate Darkness X

If you have the regular Cliq, go to motorola’s site, you can upgrade it to 2.1. It isn’t an ota, it is an upgrade you have to download the file to your sd card and manually update it. I have the Cliq on 2.1 right now…

      • Jessica

Yes My husband used that I had to re-boot it back to stock though even tho I did all the updates etc..It kept freexing up my phone and I couldnt even make a call with out it “forcestoping” my phone. :(

  • Ultimate Darkness X

I laugh because it didn’t work, they budged the previous price they gave me down to the regular full discount. Oh well, no biggie. I am off contract so if I really wanted to go I could. I might just hold up for the Cliq 2 since it made it through the Patent office.

  • Swapngreendotcom

lol I just called T-Mobile and asked if I could get a T-Mobile phone and they said yes, so I just order it, I guess this website really did work lol, I also got some other accessories as well with it, they try to extend my contract but I told them nah I’m good, I also got another one for my girlfriend because she wanted one, so I just order them, so I just sold my g1 to swapngreen.com they always buy my phones from me kuddos to them

  • TMoFan

Just tried and the rep had no idea what I was talking about. I told her that I’ve been with T-Mobile since the VoiceStream days (I still have my crappy VoiceStream branded Nokia phone) but the best she could do was $259.

I’ll try again later. It’s a good deal for those who get a rep who knows what they’re talking about!

  • DatNizzle

Just got my GF one. They gave me $25 data & text.

  • dnunez

i just scored a free G2 also with free 2 day shipping but the idiot i was talking to said there was no $20 android internet package. He said it expired november 15 so it was either $15 for 200mb or $30 for unlimited. I got the $15 package of course. Now that i got the free phone im going to call back and tell them I want the $20 package, i am pretty sure someone who knows what they are doing will correct it for me.

    • dnunez05

I called back the second time and got it fix to the $20 unlimited package woot woot!

    • Same thing happened to me. I had to talk to a rententions rep’s supervisor to get it for my fiancée’s G2, even though mine already had it. Bottom line, they will add it – you just have to be VERY persistent.

  • Gma

Great deal, almost bought yesterday was worth the wait.
Two free phones, free express shipping and new plan that’s saving over $50.00 per month.
Thanks to Jose in customer service.

  • Calle888

they got no idea what im talkin about.

  • Don’t you have to switch your data plan to the 4G plan? That’s what they told me, its not a problem because its $5 cheaper, but I changed my voice plan as well. When I get it I’m gonna call back and ask them why I had to change my voice plan. They are trying to get us out of all those grandfathered plans that long time customers have. I’ll be paying around the same thing & my corporate discount still applies, but I may be able to pay less. my voice was promotional 1000 whenever, free nights & weekend for $39. The new plan is Whenever 1500, for either $39 of $49, not sure. I wasn’t using anywhere near 1000 minutes before, but who knows, maybe I’ll get a life and need 1500 in the future, haha. We’ll see. Its so crazy that they are doing this now, when on Friday, they tried to give me a Behold 2 in exchange for a Cliq, haha.

    • DatNizzle

They want you out of those old plans. I had 1000 minutes for 30bucks. There was no way to add android to that. But they gave me a free G2 and $25 data/text package today. Seems like they help you when you’re paying a premium. I don’t use any minutes though at the most 300.
It’s funny because last time I called the rep told me that $25 plan wasn’t offered anymore. But he also told me that if I used wi-fi on my unlocked phone that T-mobile would charge me $1 a mb. Seems like the reps are a crap-shoot.

      • Yeah, I was paying $34.99 for unlimited web and text, now its gonna be $30 for unlimited 4G Web & texts. I looked at the break down, and its $20 for the data & $10 for the texts. Now or before people are getting this for $20 and $25? It really depends, you get told different things each time you deal with someone.

  • CHOLOSOY

in order to qualify you MUST either be with no contract or 22 out of 24 months in your current contract, and of course will required a new 2yr contract, plus required data features on the upgraded line, even if you will use the phone on different line !!!

  • CUSTOMER BASHER

I WOULD ONLY IMAGINE THAT IS NOT EVERYONE QUALIFIES ;-)
AND BEING LOYAL DOESN’T MEAN YOU PAY YOUR BILL EVERY MONTH…IT MEANS YOU HAVE BEEN PAYING YOUR BILL SINCE 2000 OR EARLY AND DON’T CALL IN EVERY MONTH BECAUSE YOU (NOT T-MOBILE) GO OVER YOUR MINUTES.

  • I called 3 times till someone knew what i was saying, but the third rep knew what I was talking about and she was great helping me getting my FREE G2!! I was on the Even More Plan and had to switch to a contract plan and I dont mind!! Now i need to get rid of Cliq

    • Jessica

who did you talk to I cant get thru to anyone over there that doesnt laugh…they know about it but they just laugh It is quite rude. and they refuse to help and or listen. And have probably just convinced a customer to really actually cancel there contract and go elsewhere beem with tmobile for almost 8 years they havent given me any deals ever! So disappointed. And Yes I am nice and ask the right questions nicely also.

      • Techguy

Mention you saw it on tmonews.com and many people are reporting getting the fee G2.

      • part of the issue is if you have had to do a buyer’s remorse return in store, they cannot reset your eligibility.

  • Called twice, but no dice. Both times I was offered $199 after $50MIR. The second time I called I was also told that I would not qualify for the $50MIR because I had returned a phone this summer. Bummer.

For some reason I never seem to be able to take advantage of these legendary deals. I could not get the web-only free G2 offer either : (

  • Jbrown306

I was going to cancel my service with tmobile about a month ago. They connected me to contacts and I told hd2 u wanted to cancel with then and she offered me 2 mytouch 4g and samsung vibrant for free and with express shipping. So yes it’s true. I know customer service can’t offer u that deal, but contacts department canI’ve been with tmobile for 8 years.

  • just talked to Tmo for 34 minutes lol. got a free G2, here by thursday. Thanks TmoNews!!

  • I called. I am 15 months into my contract. They offered to upgrade me for $250. I am staying with my myTouch, since the Froyo update, I am happy with it. The CSR said I would be eligible for an upgrade after 22 months.

  • ShadyB721

I tried twice. Both times I was told I upgraded 10 months ago and you have to be 22 months into contract to be able to get G2 for free. Maybe I’ll try again later. Anybody have any advice for my situation? I even told them i lost my Cliq that I upgraded to 10 months ago and all they offered me was to make a claim because I had insirance and I would get the same phone anyway!

    • Julia

You MUST be fully qualified to upgrade

      • Jessica

Julia that is obviously not the case…apparently you just need to get the right rep cause there about 50% of the posts on here are from people who stated they did NOT qualify! and still got it. It is really frustrating seeing all those posts as being a loyal customer for almost 8 years then they keep laughing at me and saying they best they can do is $200.00 off I seriously (and nicly) threatend to cancel and they still did not care. I think I will be calling back to cancel on my next call.

    • Julia

You MUST be fully qualified to upgrade

  • cherry

Just now i got that for free

  • Whiful

no problems just told them i had heard there was a deal for a free g2. still under contract until may 2011. so no you dont have to be within 2 months..

good deal, but let me know when the MT4G does the same.

  • baolongnt

    Just got the deal! :-)

It took 2 calls though. The 1st rep did not know anything about it. The 2nd one knew right away what I was refering to.

  • Deceptivesmiles

Just got off the phone with the rep and got two in the mail right now arriving on the 23rd!!!! On top of that, My little sister just hooked me up w/ a tab for $100. Had to sign a 2yr agreement but for that price, I can’t complain

  • mok

What type of phone plan are you guys so that you’re getting this deal? I’m on the Even More Plus plan and they won’t let me do the upgrade since I’m on “contracted” with them. I’ve been with T-Mobile since 2004.

    • Tell them you’re cool with a rate plan change, then you can get it through the proper department.

    • Mel

It is not a matter of what plan you have – it is a matter of whether you are under contract or not. I am with the 300 minutes plan but not under contract so I could drop tmobile any time I want. In exchange for them chaining me down for 2 years I have a free G2 now. But I have been with tmobile for 10 years and probaby would have stayed with them anyway, so it is just a free phone to me.

  • Calieboy707

Got mine w/free shipping. Only been a customer since 05. This is the first time I’ve ever heard of Tim giving away phones like this. Thanks TMONEWS

  • DM

Thanks TMONews, just called and landed a free G2 and free shipping to one of my family lines!!

  • Larry

Tried 3 reps – best they’d offer me was $204 per phone and I’m 20 months in… so whoever of you did get them to give you the free deal at less than 22… congrats – you banked. None of them would budge for me… I tried friendly with two of them, confused with another… the last rep flat out said that if someone said they got the free deal at less than 22 months into their contract, they’re telling a tale because it “simply isn’t possible”. Of course, she’d HAVE to say that if she wanted to stick to her guns.

    • Ryan

yup, same here. this is b.s. what are people telling the reps to get this deal??

    • wakwak

try saing ‘loyalty” when voice promp.

I just called them again, lol because this deal is to good to be true, so I added another line lol I will just sell the phone, or do some sort of review for the phone on youtube or something, but I really can’t wait to play with the phone, but I really hope it’s better then the g1 because the g1 sucked bad, I would charge it the whole night and then the battery would just die in 3 min no joke well I just ended up selling to this website they buy cell phones I think swapngreen.com they ended up buying it, so with the extra money I get I am just going to apply towards this

  • techguy

Took me three freakin calls to get it! I almost gave up, they acted like they never heard of such a crazy thing as a free G2. When I mentioned I just read about it on tmonews.com that seemed to really help. I normally buy my phones without a contract but this deal seemed too good to pass up.
    Thanks all!
Maybe I can be rid of my berry finally :)

  • Bretthutton19

    friiiiiiiiiiiiiig. im off contract now

  • Moose

Got mine with one call. Could have gotten 2 G2s because I had two lines available for upgrade, one with a $25 data plan and one with a $30 data plan. Opted only for one G2 did not want to give up the $25 data plan.

  • Can you guys help me? I called and the only thing they can do is give it to me for 249.99. I have the moto cliq at this moment. Family plan with 5 lines and no upgrade available to any. I called twice and they said that they can’t give it to me for free. any help would be greatly appreciated

    • Techguy

Mention you just saw it on tmonews.com Keep trying until you get someone who knows about it, took me three tries.

      • And I still have 1 year contract left before I can get an upgrade. Will it work?

        • Techguy

Probably not but some others said they not qualified and got it so who knows?

        • Krca21

I would keep trying until you get a nice rep like the one I spoke too. She said they were getting alot of calls about this deal so I though I wouldn’t get it but she was awesome…plus I was switching into a 2 year contract from even more plus so maybe that was why. Good Luck!!

David, you are awesome. Read this article and called Tmobile immidiately. They offered me deal right away. In addition they offered me the unlimited data plan for $20/month instead of the normal $30. And if that wasn’t good enough I said I really wanted it for Christmas and they dropped the $10 fee for priority shipping!
I should get my G2 in 3 days, can’t wait.

    • Amorek13

yep took me 3 tires one of the guys was an ass would not do anything for me,
the third one was awesome i ordered the g2 week a go and he credited me the whole amount and gave me web for 20 bucks unlimited

  • Mnimbm17

i just called and they said that they are aware of this website and a lot of disinformation is being given and they will not honor this ……I have been a tmobile customer for over 10 years.

    • g2pioneer

call again, call again, and say “loyalty” .

      • And when you call, you don’t have to specify what site you hear it from or even that you heard it from a site. If at first you don’t succeed, try again.

    • Techguy

Many of us had to try calling two or more times to finally get it.

    • JenF

I just got one. You have to have a line out of contract and eligible for renewal… just like the ACCURATE information in this article. ;-)

  • Bethel03

Just called 611 from my G1, said ‘contract’ to the automated system and got my phone in the mail free of charge! I was going to go to Costco on Thursday to buy this phone! Saved me $150!!! Thanks Tmo News!!!!!

  • I got a CLIQ XT on contract the end of April. Any chance of getting in on this deal?

According to your carrier, you’ll be eligible for an upgrade on: 03/20/12
    Your contract expires: 04/30/12

    • Gary

Give them a call. My contract expires in April and they gave me the deal.

I didn’t read the whole date. I assumed you meant April 2011. My contract expired in April 2011.

You might try anyway. There are people who have posted that they were able to get the free phone even though they had a long time left on their contract.

T-Mobile customer since VoiceStream days, 20 months into contract, first rep gave me the deal. I didn’t get the free expedited shipping like some have, but since I was planning on upgrading my wife’s phone when the contract was up this was an awesome deal! Now I won’t find my Vibrant with a dead battery because my wife had “borrowed” it to play Angry Birds.

  • Krca21

I called this morning right after reading this and the rep said I could switch into a 2 year contract at the same monthly amount I am paying now on my even more plus account. Got the free G2 and free rush shipping for switching in. I will have my phone in 1-3 days. Great x-mas gift!! Thanks!!

I just called, said “contract” to the automated prompt and asked the rep if he was aware of the G2 promotion. He said yes and within 7 minutes (according to the timer on my phone) I had 2 free G2s on their way via free UPS shipping with an expected arrival date of the 23rd. Just saved a few hundred bucks since I was planning to upgrade anyway. This is why I’ve been with TMobile all these years! Thanks TmoNews for the awesome tip!

  • Jeremybertran

Called t-mobile and 5 minutes later I have a new g2 for my wife. Free shipping and will be under the Christmas tree! Thanks Tmonews for the great deal.

  • Reggie Sykes

Thanks just got the wifey upgraded from a BB Bold

  • TMoFan

I’m not having any luck here. How do I get to loyalty? I’m told there’s nothing that can be done since I’m eight months into my contract, but I see others here getting the deal with less than that so who knows.

  • Luizx2004

hell yeah! just got a free G2!! ….just added a 200MB data plan also, does anybody know if that’s required ? i didn’t even ask…i might not need, since i have free wifi everywhere.

  • Just call T-Mobile and got my free G2 and free express shipping. The guy I talked to even asked if I got the info from this site. He said he got a lot of people calling saying they hear it from tmonews.

  • Yeah It’s Me

Worked for me…got 2 free G2’s for me and the Mrs. Called 611 said contracts at the prompt got a rep and said I was looking at my options since I’m out of contract and I heard you have a deal on free G2’s. He said that was correct and got me taken care of…express shipping (3 business days) should have before xmas. My plan price increased but if you’re on a family plan you still win b/c you get $1000 in hardware at no cost.

  • scored 2 free g2’s grand total was 4.99 for shipping!

I just tried and was told that the deal was expired. Did I need to ask for someone in the loyalty department? I followed the directions prescribed otherwise…

  • JeffM

Was told it was a buy one get one deal. NOTHING FREE! Said Tmonews was just a blog and not affiliated with T-Mobile. I’ve been out of contract for months. So much for loyalty!

    • Call again, you are out of contract so you should have no problem getting this. Tmonews isn’t an official affiliate of T Mobile, so they aren’t binded to give a deal displayed on here, but its where everybody goes for T Mobile news. And enough people are getting the deal to know it exists. Most times you have to call more than once.

    • thereugo

I got 3 free on the 16th…try again.

  • TMoFan

Can’t seem to get through to loyalty and am told that it’s only for people out of contract and that those within contract are NOT eligible. Offered me the same $249 blah blah blah, and wouldn’t offer any loyalty data.

To those who got the deal, congrats. I may try again later but it’ll be my last time.

  • Didn’t get a full discount (just upgraded to a MT3GS), but did get $300 off. Anyone want to buy a 3G Slide?

  • Co5

Got three G2s for free, free shipping, and waived activation fee. Had to sign up for 200 MB data plan for each one. No problems whatsoever. Waiting for delivery.

no deal for me the best they can do is 249 dollars since my contract doenst end til august 14 2011

    • Dswagg2k10

I’m one as well. I dont mind helping a customer get a good deal, but this post will drain the availability for customers that really need it… e.i. 8 and 10 year customers vs 2 yr customers that think they deserve the same treatment. #Vent #ThatIsAll

Im a 9 year customer (voicestream days…gold nokia ring a bell) but my mom used my upgrade on my phone. My bro and i need new ones but i dont want to abuse the system. Do you think we would qualify for it?

I was going to switch to AT&T and get the iPhone if it wasn’t for tmonews.com and this offer so be a little grateful maybe instead of attacking this cool website which is promoting you. In reality this phone should not be more then $50-$100 with a 2 year contract, it’s just not as good as an iPhone

One of these days I’ll try the iphone…when they build it right and it’s not on ATT.

      awwww wahhhhh

I agree with that. I hadn’t upgraded since the G1, and after TMO screwed up my preorder and account info, forcing me to get on the phone with them several times after waiting up to an hour on hold, I feel that I have this free offer coming to me. I don’t really…. but it kept me from dumping TMO, which I was about to do. This is good business practice which should be reserved for customer retention of those who haven’t upgraded recently.

      • Elexsor

You are right. I just got my phone upgrade to the G2 from the KRZR of which I have had since like 06. I was considering leaving Tmobile and going for Verizon as it was about time to upgrade the phone to a new one (battery life is crap now). They called at the right time (about 1-2 weeks ago). I thought about it and then called them back and upgraded the phone today. I’m now a Tmobile customer for another 2 year and in all honest probably another 4. I only get a new phone about every 4 years or so. I have been with TMO for around 9-10 but have only had two phones. Smart business… cause guess what. I now have a data plan for $15 more a month.

I was told that I needed another 10 months, for my full 22 months, to qualify.

    • Maruichan

By then a new phone will be out lol

OMG THANK YOU FOR THIS! lol idk caps is a cool button… Well – thanks to this i called earlier today and got it for free with free express shipping as a “Cyber Monday Deal” based on one of the reps. $20 unlimited web and text deal so im paying around 75/month – eh nice :D. Call 611 – say “contracts” then ask about the free G2, my rep was so surprised about this deal I think she wanted to do it as well lol, I accepted the 2 year contract thing and I was good to go – took a good 15 minutes and I was happy.

just got 2 free g2’s with free express shipping, phones will be delivered in 2-3 days, right before christmas!! nice! But i did not read the instructions before i called 611 the first time and the rep had no clue about the deal and did not give it to me. Then I re-read the instructions and said “contract” to the automated system and got to the right department, asked for the free g2 deal and got it right away!!! I LOVE T-MOBILE!!! Been with them since 1999 when I had Voicestream!! Nice to know that they have these great offers for long term customers too!! Thanks for posting this deal tmonews!!!

  • Yznsfcn

i just got it..its totally free. no upgrade fee or shipping fee. i have been with tmobille for more than 10 yrs

  • Just another TMO customer

I just tried a second time, unfortunately was quoted the $204 price both times. I’m at the 21 month mark on my contract. While I understand TMO or any other carrier wanting an account to carry out the contract term before offerring anymore subsidies, the closer I get to a being out of contract the better my chances of jumping carriers. My situation, I either wait another 30 days for the 22 month mark or 90 days to broaden my choices altogether. If I was able to get the G2, I would have gladly extended another 2 years with a data plan. Whereas, that Iphone is looking more and more like a choice now. Who knows, maybe a quad core Andorid 4.0 phone with 3 cameras will be out by then.

Just got in on this deal. I had to rearrange my plan to do so because I still was using @Home for my home phone line so I just switched my 2 other individual lines to a family plan & added an extra line for $10 a month while getting rid of the @Home. The $10 a month line has only 200 minutes but I still have a few older UMA calling enabled phones lying around so my calls will be unlimited as long as Im at home anyways. Been dying to replace my CLIQ for months & now I finaly can. Been with T-Mobile since 2004 & will continue to do so if they keep things like this up.

Called 611, got customer care, @ first tried to sell me the phone for $217. I asked aren’t they free, put me on hold for about 5 min, came back & said yes we can get u this phone FREE! s & h for $4.99, should get it in 7 days!! I CAN WAIT!! Thanks, tmobile

  • Tony

I have a G2…paid $99 as a pre-order back in September. I knew this phone would be free eventually, but I couldn’t wait…oh well. If you can get a G2, get one. It is definitely the fastest Android device on the market…the processor is WAY underclocked and can run stable at 1.5GHZ all day long. And it has such a high-quality metal feel compared to the MyTouch and Nexus S.

  • nain77

called a few hours ago, all i asked was “when is my contract up” and she told me i was 13 months into my 2 year agreement. i told her “do you guys have any good android phones like sprint and verizon?” me pretending to not really know what im talking about and then she goes “we can send u a G2 free of charge with a new 2 year agreement” i go on pretending not to know anout phones n such….5 minutes later “a G2 will be delivered to your address in about 2-3 business days” i payd $0.00…HOW I LOVE TMOBILE!!! i get aaround 2-3 mbps on 3G, and one time spiked up to 5mbps. that was on the HD2 though. now time to try on a 4G enabled device!!

Scored THREE on my first try, only caveat was that internet was req’d on all handsets. They wanted 30/mo each, talked ’em down to 20. I already had one line w/internet and was upgrading the other two anyway so it worked out perfectly. As young John Connor would say, “easy money!”

Guys key is ask for loyalty on the auto service..then confirm the rep is part of the loyalty department. If you didn’t so this try again. I said contract as this article said to do and I got an account exec who quoted me a 150 dollar price to upgrade and said he had no free g2 promotion. I’m a long time tmobile client and i had a full upgrade on my line. Try following what I did see if it works. They also gave me free expedited shipping

  • Rally Cap

Wow that’s great! I pre-ordered mine and paid 249.99 for it and had to send two back for un-related issues to the hinge (actual issues) and T-Mobile charged me for a while for three phones. Resolved. All these fantastic deals… learned my lesson to NEVER pre-order a phone. Just wait a month and get it for f’n free. Logically to pre-order anything you get screwed… how does that make any sense? ARGH!

  • Mely1124

AWSOME!!!!, just got off the phone w/ Tmobile got my G2 for free (was the phone I was going to upgrade to anyway)internet @ $20 less then what I was paying for my bberry internet service. Thanks for posting!!!

    • Tmo…

      @Mely1124 – how did u get the $20 data fee ?

      • Mely1124

when I called I asked them if they could tell me when my contract was up and if I was available for an upgrade. The guy at costumer service asked me what phone i wanted to upgrade to and I told him the G2 … not because of this posting but because that’s the phone I really wanted. He then went on and told me about the internet service fee and that the rate was $30 but that he could lower that for $20. I have been with T-mobile for 10+years not even sure how long but its been a loooong time. I think that might have something to do with it ;)

Just ordered mine, free expedited shipping too. I had to say “contract,” I tried the “loyalty” option and it said okay, you want to cancel. There was a bit of a wait, it looks like people are either on top of this deal or just ordering for Christmas. The rep was like, thank you for being a loyal customer for the past decade, and he also said right at the start that he was in the loyalty department. I then I just said I was looking to upgrade, I wanted an Android phone with a keyboard and he said I can get you that for free, and because of the holidays we know you’ll want it right away so I’ll give you the $19.95 shipping for free. I’ve been waiting and watching all the different sources for a good deal on one of these newer phones, and I’m very happy with free.

  • Rhinestone

I had 6 months left on my line, but the first rep wouldn’t give me a price under $200 because the deal for a free phone is actually for those with a full upgrade due, and I fell short. I called back to explain I had seen the offer on this site; got offered the phone for $100, which is the cost to break my contract and go somewhere else. I have G1 that’s barely working and I took the offer; it’s better than trying to get by with yet another G1 for 6 months longer. Thanks for posting this! I didn’t get it for free, but it certainly helped me get 50% off :)

    • g2pioneer

you have $50 mir. for that I think.

  • hmm?

i just did this deal and was wondering if i could have gotten a better deal.. i had a g1 and with unlimited everything for 85 a month and a sidekick with unlimited everything for 70 a month and got the g2s free and put them on the unlimited loyalty family plan which makes both lines $80 for talk instead of the individual UL 49.99 each and added 34.99 unlimited data plan and 5.99 insurance on each because they were claiming there was no cheaper data plan than that one .

  • Ebatr8

This deal will go away soon do to this abuse of it you may argue that you deserve it blah blah blah I don’t call my electricity and complain to get a free month because I been with them a long time when stuff like this is posted things go away for the true people that need it or actually deserve it, this is the reasowhy tmo may not get as many high end phones because so many possible high subsidies go to eastwind people that do not deserve it, there use to be way better offers available but no more do to this type of stuff its unfortunate that tmonews post stuff like this, there’s a difference between posting a sale and something not meant for everyone some people here may think that its good that now they are happy now with tmo but its truly few customers that are truly loyal those customers the rep can give em a deal like this anyday no matter what phone there’s certain things reps look for when they decide to do something for you not just how long u had service that don’t matter if you hardly pay anything.

    • Mely1124

I think this should be left to T-mobile’s discretion to decide what customer deserves this deal. T-mobile can easily decline some inqueries if they wanted to.

      • Brian

it’s people like this, and blog posts like this that will hurt the true loyal customers in the long run. Don’t abuse the loyalty department just because you want a G2 for free. I love TmoNews, but I had a little more respect for David before he posted this. David, you talk about the integrity of T-Mobile and you speak about wanting the company to succeed, yet you put up blog post which hurt T-Mobile’s bottom line and quite frankly, hurt all T-Mobile customers in the long run. T-Mobile needs to invest more money and resources into their awesome network and industry changing rate plans and services instead of employing more customer care reps to field calls from the vampires who read this blog. I had higher standards for you David.

        • Anonymous

Its people like all you three that like to ruin the fun for everyone else

        • Loyal Customer

How do they ruin it for everybody? It’s articles like this that ruin it for everybody, telling everybody to swarm the T-Mobile loyalty department demanding a free G2.

        • tktv

How did the article ruin anything for tmobile? (I was one of many that took advantage of the G2 offer only because I happened to read it on this blog and I too am a long-time, loyal tmobile customer.)

What I think you fail to see is that this is a great gorilla marketing campaign. It’s the churn they’re worried about and frankly, I’m willing to bet they have a more than they expected stock of G2s sitting around. (And with the iPhone 4 selling for $149 on contract right before Christmas — at Sam’s Club –, there may be one or two tmobile customers who would be willing to take advantage of that offer and give it as a gift to themselves or others.)

What’s more valuable to tmobile’s bottom line? Subscriber contracts or stock of G2s on hand?

If you were like me, you had to extend your contract 24 months for this “special, hush-don’t-tell-anyone” offer. That means tmobile just made it’s money back and then some on the two “free” phones they “gave” me because for just for those two lines that I upgraded (out of the five lines I have total), tmobile gets approximately $120 a month for the next 24 months from me and I think $2880 more than covers the price they paid HTC for the phones that they “gave” me for “free”.

Had I not read about it here, I wouldn’t have acted and tmobile wouldn’t have been able to count me in the plus column of subscribers.

        • My stance on it is that if you get a customer to stay, that’s one less that verizon or at&t can claim they added.

        • Brian

really? what customers need to do is be EDUCATED on the cost of competeter rate plans. Cell phone customers have a sense of entitlement, like the companies owe them something… but they don’t. You choose to have service with a cell phone company, you choose to sign their contracts, and you choose to be bound to upgrade terms, price of data charges, etc. Cell phone customers are so freaking retarded that they do not do ANY research before choosing a carrier. If all customers did their research instead of looking at the pretty lights and flashing commercials from Verizon, etc, they would choose TMobile based soleley off the monthly plans and price of phones. I say, if customers want to leave for another carrier, let them. We’re better off without the shit head customers that demand everything for free because they’ve been a “loyal customer for 10 years.” Guess what, I’ve been a loyal customer of Wal Mart for 20 years, and you will never see me ask for a free gallon of milk because I spend $100 in groceries there every month. Get the F over yourselves people. Phone’s cost money. If you don’t have the money to buy one, save up… It’s that simple.

        • ximage

Its funny how you guys make it sound like tmobile is going to lose something for giving away the phone but in fact people have to lock in 2 more years of contract with at least $20 worth of data plan. Which basically pay for the phone and more really.
Its not like people are getting the phone and cancel the services then ebay it. Also all the people that called tmobile can easily walk away and hop on other networks which would hurt tmobile more. They made the long term customers happy and knowing they got them lock for 2 more years. It’s a win win situation really for them.

    • DatNizzle

I deserve it because i’m due an upgrade. I didn’t have to demand anything. I asked if they had a special on the G2, and he said yes, was happy about it even. It is a Cyber Monday deal that got extended. That’s what I was told anyway. If it hurt T-mobile thay wouldn’t do it. So buying stuff on sale is wrong.

  • This would be cool if I hadn’t finally gotten tired of waiting on Samsung and rooted my Vibrant and put Nero beta 2 room on it. It’s basically the same OS as the Nexus S and this phone is amazing now. If you’ve never rooted before I’d say reconsider, but really be careful if you try it. The phones we have are way better if you root than they are stock. My Vibrant is now so fast apps and dialogs open instantaneously and the battery life sans touchwiz is such that I no longer carry my cable to work. I’ve gotten 12+ hours of battery life with GPS/wifi/bluetooth enabled and in a 3G area. ?And all my friends who root report similar.

DON’T BELIEVE IT, THEN CALL T-MOBILE FOR YOURSELF AND FIND OUT.

thank you all, no bull i just called up, dude said hold on let me check if that is true (when i asked about the free g2 upgrade), he came back and said “since your 2 yr contract is up you can extend for 22 more months and get x2 new g2’s to upgrade”. i almost bought x2 new g2’s 4 days ago at the mall to upgrade our g1’s but i couldn’t bring myself to pay the $450 or so bill but this is pretty sweet that it is now free. total bill was like $5 for shipping and thats it. DON’T BELIEVE IT, THEN CALL T-MOBILE FOR YOURSELF AND FIND OUT.

  • No dice. However, apparently I don’t have account rights… when i’m the one who pays the bill. But thats beside the point, the first girl played coy with no knowledge of a free G2, however the guy seems to know but wouldn’t spit it out due to me not being able to access account. Hopefully they are still doing it in 9 hours when i can call with the account holder.

  • Loyal TMO

well it would work, but i would have to get data which is gay…or i could do the bogo offer. So it works people

  • Peezzy1

i tried and was denied anyone can help me on what to say so it does work

    • Anonymous

I tried but no go, what did anyone who got one out of upgrade say to get one???

  • ANEVILGIRL

I got mine! But I also go free shipping! W00t!

    • Ldominguez1986

were you eligible for full upgrade or did you get lucky

  • I just wasted a buncha time dealing with their reps acting like idiots. First rep put me on hold for a long time because she said the info was “taking too long to appear on her comp.” I pressed her about the free G2 but she said that was only for family plans, aka you need at least two lines on your account. I said i did, but she insisted there’s only one line. When i gave her the second number, she said it didn’t qualify cause it was a “regular line,” so i could only get the G2 with a discount ($217). After failing with her, i tried again and got a dude who swore on his life that my pin/last four of SSN didn’t match up with my number, despite the fact i had just spent 15 minutes with another rep who acknowledged it was my pin. I’m fed up with this, i’ve been with them almost 3 years now and they’re acting like they don’t know what’s going on. Further calls were immediately hung up on after entering my CORRECT pin/ssn until i finally gave up when i got a robot telling me their call center is closed til 6am.

Is this still working for anyone else? I’m not trying to abuse, i honestly need a new phone damnit.

  • Frustrated

Called 4 times and just this last time was told the whole thing was a scam and that all of you leaving comments were scammers and lying…Just saying!! I also cancelled all 3 lines due to the fact that in calling 4 times that one of my services had a price increase that I did not know about. They claim that I went online and changed it to a higher price almost 2 yrs ago. Like I would change it from the cheaper one to a higher one.. Makes no sense, anyway they said that since it had been so long they can’t switch it back. So after 8yrs and 200 a month they can suck it. I will take my 200 a month a my 3 line over to Sprint and check out the EVO or Verizon and give the Droid a shot!! Peace out to TMOBILE and a Merry Christmas to all

    • Blkbear_41

Wow really? I got through to CRS without a problem, and the person I talked to, knew what I was talking about and didn’t have any problems setting it up. Now it may be due to my contract being up in Jan, and already have the full upgrade on my line. Only been with TMO since Sept 2008, so it’s not like I have been with them for years and years.

You did end up with a Loyalty CRS and not a regular one right?

    • Guest

Doesn’t matter to me where you go and if you over payed you have a right to be mad…Just don’t go get screwd at Sprint… The EVO sucks…seriously. I tested it for three days and wanted to throw it against the wall. I am more than sure Verizon would be the better alternative. Sprint service and phones SUCK!

    • UnKnowN

Ha ha except that 200 over at sprint will actually be 300 have fun.

    • DatNizzle

Ha ha, funny story. Besides it took you 2 yeard to notice a price increase? Sounds like Verizon is the place for you. Can I have your phones, since they will be useless to you?
By the way I lied and scammed my way into a new G2.
I would at least hold out for a decent phone. I’d rather have a G2 than either of those.

Got the free G2 deal tonight at 9:30 PST. All I paid for was the shipping, which was in the $5.00 range. Have only been a T-mobile customer since 2008.

Also no activation fee, no upgrade fee. Got to keep Myfaves.

    Plan I opted for is $69.99, 1000 mins free N&W, unlimited text/web/email.

They did have a promo running for 1500 anytime mins,(no N&W) unlimted text/web/email for $79.99

    • Ultimate Darkness X

Actually that promo plan included Nights, Weekends, and M2M

      • Blkbear_41

May have gotten it confused with one of the other options the rep was talking about that didn’t come with N&W.

    • Yeah, thats the deal I got, including free night and weekends and free mobile to mobile. I don’t need it though, might call back when I get my phone and lower to the 1000 whenever, save myself $10 dollars, and that’s what I had before.

  • Red Chicago

I tried it and was told i did not qualify for the free g2 cause i had 11month left on my contract, but was offered it at 149.99 free shipping and upgrade fees. I called again to see if i could get better deal but was offer 249.99, then 149.99 once again free expedited shipping and fees. Called a 3rd time and was offered 149.99 free ground shipping and fees, and i asked about $20 data instead of $30 and was giving that, so i took it cause i have mytouch 4g and my girlfriend has old g1, she really needed a g2.

  • Sortega62

I try and they said there is no such thing???..can someone help plz thanks…

  • g2 user

this has been going on since last week

  • Trillistic

wow just saw this at 1138 pm easterntime called up the rep and got 1 free g2.. im soo happy because i was gonna go shell out 199+tax for one this weekend.. sweet offer tmobile… im NEVER SWITCHING CARRIERS

  • sajjz

    i got 2, 2 lines were eligible.

all i did was call and said “contract” then got loyalty right away.

one thing my friend told me was that (he works at a phone company) if you push offers that they already know(e.g. free g2 w/upgrade) they tend to not give it to you. if you leave stuff open ended like for example “i was thinking about upgrading my phone since i’m not satisfied with the current one..” and they ask you what do you have in mind… just be like “i was looking into the g2, what do you think?” (btw these are the actual things i said today) he was like its a great phone blah blah trying to sell it, and also he then went well i’m glad you called today because that phone is free today, internet fee of 20$ free 3day shipping and 5.99 insurance and 2 year.

bam, tricked them into thinking i didnt know. just gotta learn how to talk to reps and they give you shit for free. also got my family unlimited texts to 15$ woot.

  • Laddot

    Yup Got it!

  • Champcar

Got this deal yesterday. My line was not upgradable but I was able to put a 2 year contract on my @home line and use the free G2 on my line, also received free shipping, no upgrade fee and was able to lower both of my data lines to $20.

  • Julia

Dang shipping is super fast, rep & I were friendly so she gave me free express shipping yesterday on my free G2 order with an estimated shipping date of tomorrow but UPS shows “out for delivery” today! (Use the phone number of the line you upgraded to “track by reference number”) can’t wait to root this sexy beast and play with her all day.

    • How is that? What state are you in? Mine was ordered on Friday and still hasn’t shipped yet

      • Julia

        I’m in Texas

    • Champcar

Dang, mine says it wont ship till the 27th.

      • champcar

Just checked UPS, delivery on the 22nd! Gotta love Tmo

    • i cant track my order, maybe i should call them

  • Phlly

I wasn’t eligible for the full upgrade, but the rep was able to find for me the phone for $74.99 after a $50 MIR. I thought this was as sweet as it was going to get.

Anyone want to now buy my almost new Vibrant?? :)

    • Phlly

Forgot to say no activation fee and free express shipping. Should be here tomorrow! :)

      • Bob

Good luck getting that MIR if you don’t have the full 22 months in you will have your rebate denied. Bet they forgot to mention that.

        • Gary

Yep. They did that to me when I upgraded my Vibrant. That was a fun call to try to get them to honor the MIR. They finally credited my account since the rep neglected to inform me of that little tidbit of information.

  • Oh, now i see mines, T Mobile tell you to look up reference with your cell number with the dashes, but you are supposed to enter it with out them. Mine should be delivered today, its already arrive in L.A.

  • Worked like a charm… i was on the even more plan and they just upgraded my plan to the 10 dollars extra a month but at least i can upgrade without such a hassle.. and i got a free phone… :D
and to think i was about to quit t mobile and go with sprint for the epic… :D…
    — also.. i haven’t upgraded my phones within tmobile since like 2005 and they said its about time i upgrade my phone.. lol, i usually go through craigslist for upgrades… but craigslist aint FREE :D

    • i was like the same thing, i was bout to go to sprint for the epic too, but i took this deal right away, i have a cliq and im happy now

  • Tmob999

Just called tmobile 20 mins ago and got mine!! Happy Holidays!
They waved the express shipping with 5.99 insurance plan too, customer since 2005

  • Btookz

do you have to pay the taxes on the phone

    • Tmob999

I wasnt notified of paying anything other than the insurance for $5.99 and express shipping which I had waved because I hesitated on buying the insurance. I just said I am a G1 owner and was curious what promotions there is now for new phones such as the G2. She basically made it clear to me that I was qualified for a full upgrade and the G2 was free today only and I kept the same plan I am currently on which is 5 yrs old. Data/text/calling all remain same for next two yrs.

    • I was charged 5.20 for shipping and I agreed to renew my 2 year contract. Nothing more.

  • Znsale01

    I JUST PAYED 20 dollars to have t-mobile ship me a g2 before x-mas!!!! I’m so happy!!!

  • Znsale01

    I JUST PAYED 20 dollars to have t-mobile ship me a g2 before x-mas!!!! I’m so happy!!!

    • I got a free one too. I paid no shipping and they told me it would be here Friday! YAY!

  • Thirddaysoldier7

Had wife call up and we got two free G2’s….Happy Holidays

    • jabber

Yeah nice and happy I am not this is bull shit

  • I need help here. I have a Moto Cliq with 1 year left in contract and I’m planning on getting this deal. Will they change my plan? I currently have Family plan with 5 lines. Unlimited Messaging and Web.

    • UnKnowN

you wont get the deal if you are under contract still. Read the post need to be 22 or more months since last upgrade. May get a discount but not free.

    • Call and see, people who are not up for a full upgrade were getting the deal. Plus you have the always problematic Cliq

  • Kenny D.

Customer rep told me it had to be 22 months for me to get the full discount :( right now they would sell the phone to me for $44.95

  • Erik

I just called in and the rep said there is no such promo going on. Broken english and i’m questioning her facts based on everyone still posting here.

  • Ken

Snoozed and lost again. I guess that’s what I get for not checking tmonews obsessively every 5 minutes.

    • DatNizzle

If by “every 5 minutes” you mean once a day, than yes. That kinda thing is why I check this site, once a day.
Set up a rss feed to your phone, if the title interest you, inquire further.

  • Jimmy

What the heck, my wife’s contract is up and I have another 8 month to go and customer loyalty said 149 for her and 249 for me. How is that a good deal? She mentioned that the last promo was half a month ago. What am I missing?

  • MeanBean

Just talked to TMobile. Don’t waste your time like I just did. Its a lie!!!!!!!!!

    • Champcar

Not a lie, maybe you just missed out.

    • It’s not a lie, plenty of people had success with it, I wouldn’t have posted it if it was a lie!

    • Ktrapdogg

i got me one i just had to agree to new two year contract

  • Socal

Was quick and painless, been out of contract for about a month, just called and threaten to leave for the att/iphone offered me the free G2 right away with free expedited shipping so i get it by xmas.

    • jabber

      No way

  • Dnice3090

just asking, are you guys (those who are not getting the deals) saying contract on the automated service?

  • Dnice3090

just asking, are you guys (those who are not getting the deals) saying contract on the automated service?

  • jabber

What bull shite. It has been 24 months since I have gotten another phone and they are trying to charge me 149! They said it was a pricing error, and that there is no discount like that.

  • Niles

This was definitely legit. I called three different times on 12/20. THe first was to find out if it was legit and what the catch was. The second to actually place the order after I talked to my wife about it. The third was to ask about getting a free G2 for a new line. The third time was the only time I got someone that didn’t know what I was talking about. I think you just need to call back if you get someone that says it’s not free.

    • Greed

No, pay close attention. The post on tmo new said it was a sale for qualifying upgrades. A new line would be what….oh, I new line. That’s hard to understand, isn’t it.

      • Blkbear_41

Not to pick nits but, “any qualified to upgrade line.” NOT new line.

  • Robert

I tried ordering today and they said the deal was no longer available. I have been with tmobile for almost nine years now so i was kinda angry. I called back a half hour later threatening to cancel because it is bogus that the deal was canceled less than 24 hours from the story being posted online, and switch to sprint for the evo. The rep then said that isnt correct and put in an order for a g2 then credited my account for the price of a new g2 and it is in the mail. So even though the deal is no longer available, i still got a free g2.

Generally if you threaten to cancel or say “contract cancel” to the robot the customer service rep will go out of their way to keep you from doing so, and i am glad because i actually like t mobile. They have once again kept me happy.

    • guest

did you have to extend your contract?

      • Robert

Yes i did, but i planned on it anyway.

    • guest

did you have to extend your contract?

    • They are right, I just updated the story, the deal is over!

    • Brian

Unbelievable. Why don’t all of you cancel and go to another company and pay out of the ass for your monthly bill, and then we’ll see you back on T-Mobile once you realize how great you really had it here.

  • Jameskeescox

I got it about 2:30 eastern today. My contract wasn’t ready for renewal until April. The lady asked me if she could call me back after 15 minutes and she did. When she called me, she stated that because I had been a member for so long they would give it to me. Perfect present for the wife! I’ve never had anything bad to say about this company. I will now stop complaining about my Vibrant not getting Froyo 2.2. :)

  • P Eazy415

wow they said this was a 24hr promo that ended at 12p they time. im in sf and im like im an hour late she said naw your 4hrs late im on the east coast LAMMMEEE tmobile needs to step up FAST

    • Can’t be mad at them for having a deal that ended, had to take advantage of it sooner!

    • ivan

this is a customer that goes into a fast food place and expects breakfast to be served at 2pm when its stops serving it at 10am

  • Don

I did this yesterday afternoon, Pacific time. I called 611 and said ‘contract’. Did not hang up and wait for a callback as suggested by the automated voice, just waited 2 minutes for a rep. Said I would like to upgrade my line and get a G2. i did not mention anything about it being free, just waited to see what he would say. He checked and said, I qualified for a ‘free’ G2 and he would throw in three days shipping via UPS for free, just needed to agree to the 24 months extension and get one of the web plans. Painless and easy for me.

  • Jmmckeough

Sorry for being off Topic but I called 611 and said Contract. This put me in touch with the Loyalty retention team. I wanted to see if my wife’s and son’s lines had a full upgrade, they want the MyTouch 4G. Then I asked questions about my rate plane, have the 1800 my faves plan. Long story short he reduced my 20 unlimited familt text to 10.00 a month and knocked down the $30 dollar internet plans on my wifes and sons lines to $ 20.00 unlimited and mine from 25.99 to 20.00 and I also get to keep my corporate discount.

  • No good for me. Tried today “worded poorly” and “in error”. The rep would not even drop price of Android cost to $20. 5 year customer as of 1/2011. I was in no mood to try to “push” for anything today. But, may try to tomorrow. Oh, the rep did offer to sell me the phone at a “highly discounted rate” of $249.00. I laughed and said “no thanks”!

    • Blueski9000

cellphone providers do not owe you a thing, they are a utility company, so if you don’t like it move on, does comcast give you a free TV, or the electric company give you a free washer, get over it !

      • We pay for the “free phones”, I would prefer if our wireless bills were more like Europe’s since I usually buy my own phones but there is no free lunch here.

        • GG

If you were planning on keeping the preexisting plan for 2+ years despite contract/ no contract, it is essentially a free phone. That is of course if you already had the right plan in place (services etc)

  • Yeah, my sister tried today, she’s up for partial upgrade and they are telling her $200 something. I told her yesterday, and she called but both times she did the hold time was like 25+ mins and she didn’t stay on the phone and wait. I’m gonna call and change my plan today though, when I get my phone. I have the limited 1500 whenever, free night, weekends, and mobile to mobile, with unlimited texts & web for $79, but I’d rather have the 1000 whenever for $69 that I have heard some mention, plus my corporate discount

I love T-Mobile! Ordered mine yesterday, and it came today! I didn’t get a free G2, but it was discounted which is fine with me because I really wanted one. Now, off to explore me new G2.

Thank you T-Mobile, and thank you TmoNews for telling me about this offer!

  • Steven Andrew Miller

I’ve been a customer for over ten years (since they were VoiceStream) and when I called they did nothing to accommodate me. This was the last straw, so I canceled. I’ve had my fill of being treated like I don’t matter.

    • Guest

I don’t understand why you feel you’re entitled to this deal. It is what it is, a temporary promotion. It does not belong to you. If you could not get it, then tough luck. I’ve had tmobile/voicestream for ten years too, but I don’t think I should have it all for free. If you have complaints that’s understandable but don’t go around with a sense of entitlement. You just come off as pretentious and rude.

      • Steven Andrew Miller

It isn’t a matter of entitlement. If I had called an hour earlier (which I was not able to) they would have given me the phone for free. What is the difference to T-Mobile? Instead they have lost a four line customer who has been paying them monthly for a decade. Surely that cost them a hell of a lot more than the $150 it would taken to make me happy (and locked me in for another two years). The point is that in the last 18 months I’ve notice a seriously decline in T-Mobile’s customer service and their refusal to accommodate me was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

I get the hint: only new customers matter.

        • santa

Oh let’s say you’ve been shopping at Walmart for let’s say ten years and they are having BOGO on T.V.s and you show up an hour late and don’t get the deal. Are you seriously going to stop going to Walmart because YOU couldn’t stop in. T-mobile isn’t a non profit company and I’m sure it had nothing to do with the customer service, I’ve been a customer for years and I know they do everything to keep a customer. Instead of being a needy person because you read deal that was announced on a unofficial blog, you probably should have written in.

        • Really,No 4g?

The point is all customers in the same boat want the same deal for retention. Too many other providers with better network coverage and devices offered are out there. You build wealth on making your customers happy. Try Nordstrom the next time you go shopping. WalMart is a hell hole with good prices on electronics.

        • GG

If you go to another carrier and end up paying more instead of keeping your four lined grandfathered plan, I think in the end you’re the one who has lost, not T-Mobile.

I just called and they gave me a free G2. Guess they just didn’t like you and you weren’t good enough. Granted they had called me 2 weeks ago but I returned the phone call after I made my decision and they were nice enough.

    • Will

*plays the violin as we watch you walk away into the sunset screaming, cursing, and throwing the middle finger to everyone* — whomp whomp —

    • Drew

You just walked away from the #1 Customer Service in the business 7yrs running…. I wish you luck with the other 3. Sprint tries to help but they are clueless, AT&T couldn’t get it right if you paid them and Vzw just doesn’t give a s#!t… Again, I wish you the best. Good luck with those Unlimited Data plans…

  • I ordered mine (er, my husband’s) yesterday and it just arrived! I declined the “express” shipping so was very surprised to see it already. Thanks for the tip, TMONews!

    • Will

Tmobile has like THE fastest shipping lol. I never do express shipping because I have never had to wait more than 2 days to receive my phone!! Their shipping tactics are on point that’s for dang sure!

Enjoy, glad you got to take advantage of the offer. UPS shows mine will be here tomorrow =D

  • Anonymous

hey, let us know if MyTouch 4G gets a similar (free) deal, been wanting to upgrade, but all the promo pricing I’ve seen are for new customers only. hope to see if Tmo will do this loyalty thing again.

  • Ixz72

God Bless Tmobile… I got me a new phone upgrade for FREE. Ordered it last night and it’s already arriving tomorrow. Now that’s service!!! Yeah I signed a 2-year contract, but with service like that I don’t intend to take my business elsewhere.

    • Ixz72

Thanks David!!! This news came right on time. My G1 was on it’s last breath (battery was only lasting about 4 hours). My upgrade process was slightly painful. First I was told that I did not qualify for the free G2 program and I was not eligible for an upgrade for another 5 months. I explained to them the situation with my G1 and told them that I have been a T-mobile customer for 10 years. The customer service rep put me on hold for exactly 2 minutes and then came back on the line and said his manager approved my eligibility. Now I know why I have stayed with T-mobile for 10 years.

  • Doug

I called yesterday and upgraded both my G1 and my wife’s G1. They offered to drop the data plan to $20 each (down from our current $25) if I bought the $6/month insurance, which I did. I took the cheapest shipping instead of the rush, but then they waived the shipping cost, too. Summary: Two new G2 phones are on the way at $0 total. Priceless! Especially when I was expecting to pay $262 with the BOGO deal, and expected the data plan to jump to $30/month.

  • Flaviom

It seems the G2 promo is over. My brother called in yesterday and got in. I tried calling today and i got an offer for 99.99 on the MyTouch 4g or G2. Not bad but I’d rather drop another 100 at BB and get the Nexus S.

  • I didn’t get in on the plan, which is ok, but the cs said something hilarious. I mentioned being unhappy with the new data policies (half the cap I signed up for 2 years ago and the tethering fee w/o cap upgrade). The cs rep said every carrier had the exact same policy and it was a new law by the FCC. When I mentioned Sprint has no cap on their “4g” wimax he told me that I was mistaken and that was against the law. I don’t know if he thought I was too stupid to find the Sprint website and read terms or if he is just that misinformed. In either case it was very unimpressive. I’m not planning on leaving Tmob any time soon, I’ve been with them since the Voicestream days, but I think they could do a little better than that for cs reps.

  • JSmith

So lately my calls with Tmobile have been dropping like crazy. They’re telling me that my sim card is old and that if I take my sim card and put it in a new device it’ll work (mmmm hmmmmm) Then they told me to take out the battery and off turn the wifi and turn on my phone. Tmobile is telling me that because if the 2g, 3g and wifi my calls would drop. Now i live in the NJ/nyc area. Where frequency and signals are all over the place. really cs reps.

BB has not given me what I have been wanting and I am looking to leave bb and go to the nexus s or the g2.

When I receive a text on my bb for some reason, I cannot open the new text from the recent contact but I can open other texts form other contacts. and then after 30 minutes I can finally read the text from the user I WANT. sometimes I have to act like im sending a text by going to my sms folder, create a new sms and enter the contact who’s text I want to open and hit ok. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

My youtube videos are always buffering even if I have it on pause for minutes so I can watch my favorites videos without interruption.

Aim and yahoo icons don’t show even though I have the lastest BB versions.

The bbm is slow at times and the messages are more delayed than a flight from JFK.

RIM really needs to step up their game up SERIOUSLY!

g2 here i come with my great years of cs management skills and trust me I always get my way.

  • TMO4LIFE

would i be able to get a discount as a reasonable price if i barely upgraded my plan 10 months ago? =

  • Greed

Thanks tmo new…for sending hordes of people to call in and extend the hold times for customers that have real problems, and need them fixed. Most of the people understood if they did not quality, but you sent some really greedy people T-Mobile’s way that have some sense of entitlement. “I’ve been with T-Mobile for 2 years and I paid my bill on time. I should get a free phone, even if the sale is over or I don’t have a upgrade available. I’m a loyal customer”. Get over yourselves, T-Mobile is a SERVICE PROVIDER, that sells a service and like any other bill, you need to pay on time. You don’t call the power company any say “I’ve paid my power bill on time, I deserve free power”. They would laugh you off the phone. So for those of you that had a REAL problem and got it fixed with the G2 that’s what loyalty is for. But for those of you just calling in to make some reps horrible, stand in the mirror next time your talking to customer care and being greedy and look at yourself… will you be able to see WHAT you realy are…I think not. So please, please go to sprint or verizon so when I call in I can get my problem fixes in a timely manner, and have fun with that. Marry Christmass to all the others.

    • Julia

lmao yes, it will be a VERY “Marry” “Christmass” for me and my FREE G2!! Thanks

    • Drew

What a stupid and selfish, self-serving post… It’s Christmas and EVERYBODY is busy this time of year. Know one cares that you had to wait just a few more minutes to get your needs attended to, other people called for different issues don’t be so stupid as to blame TMONews for the delay. Learn to spell “Merry” and “Christmas” the next time you’re on hold…

    • waiting on real phone from TMO

Dif between Tmobile and Power company…power company makes money off power, tmo makes money off contracts. If Tmo only gives new customers free G2 and tells their “loyal” customers to go screw themselves if they want the same phone free then are they really trying to make money or give their “loyal” any reason to stay loyal? I am sure tons of people switched when they couldn’t get the G2. As far a customer service goes, Tmo is great. As far as treating potential customer as fair as actual customers, Tmo just got a fail on that one.

  • TMoFan

I ended up getting an offer for $199 and after dealing with several reps I took it. I’m just seven months into my contract so the fact that I got a deal for $199 is good enough for me. I finally spoke with a rep who knew what loyalty data was and added it on for me. Overall I’m happy. Thanks David!

    • Jmilord

Excuse me…what is loyalty data??? Please do tell.

  • Blasky

Missed this deal.. but was wondering:

    a) Would have been worth giving up the grandfathered $5.99 Tzones plan for; …. Or …..

    b) I am better off grabbing a Nexus S or WP&7 phone at full price, and keeping the $5.99 Tzones?

btw – anyone know if the 5.99 Tzones is considered unlimited data when used in conjuction with a smartphone?

    Thanks…

    • Not sure if either work with that plan. The Nexus One and HD2 work with it as if it was the $30 data plan.

      • Anonymous

I use my hd2 on a 10$ unlimited phone plan. But then again thats cheating =].

  • Axe

FINALLY after calling for the 3rd time day b4 yesterday i got 2 G2 4 FREE one for me and one for my wife even though i upgraded her line 6 months ago :D. Thank you David

  • erica best

I am so happy for my new free phone thanks for this post. I got it today yayaay

  • Wantagooddeal

Just tried it an they offered me the G@ at 149 or BOGO. Plenty of other providers and smart phone offers out there. Hasta, magenta!

    • The only better deal that I have seen from another carrier is a refurb iPhone 4 if you switch to AT&T. I think the refurb 16 gig is $150 which is still the same price as the G1 from Loyalty and as a new customer you get their suck-ass data tiering.

      • Really,No 4g?

The G2 doesn’t compare to the Iphone but even giving the G2 parity, why would I stay if I don’t get a better deal? TMo is not a significant 4g provider, the phones have sucked for years, and we are only now discovering the security flaws inherent in the android open marketplace. I have three lines ready for an upgrade, and I was told I cant even keep my original cell plan. They want me to pay more for a 4g data plan that isn’t available where I live, and almost 40 a month more for a plan that doesn’t even have texting? What kind of loyalty program is that?

Thanks again for the timely reporting of this great news. I am currently setting up my wife’s new G2 as I type. It arrived in 2 days with free expedited shipping and with the addition of the $20 preferred android plan. She is going to love her new phone! Tmonews gave a lot of readers a Christmas Gift this year. Thank you, from a family of 5.

Also, all EA games such as Need For Speed Shift HD and Sims 3 HD are only $0.99 in the Android Market!!! Unfortunately I can’t find carrier billing in my options…..

  • As a current G1 owner, I tried it on the day it was posted on TMONEWS. They told me I had 4 months left on my contract and that I would have to wait until late February to get a deal. So T-Mobile has sealed the deal with me. I will be with Verizon as soon as my contract ends. I was going to switch, but the free G2 option would have been worth it. I was with SunCom until they were bought by T-Mobile. The 3G network in Charleston, SC has too many dead spots for me.

    • There are always deals during the year, but the end of your contract, there may be a deal that works for you. But if the dead spots are killing you, guess it would not actually have mattered if you could have gotten a deal now or not.

  • Falcolgb

Awesome Deal!!! I’m happy to have a G2 now.

  • Ordered mine Monday night received both of my G2’s today. I’m very pleased and the device is better than expected.

Leaving milk and cookies for the UPS delivery person tomorrow outside when that magic brown sleigh pulls up with my free G2 from the best carrier in all the world!! Thanks t-mobile for the only xmas present worth opening!
Thanks Tmonews also for the heads up! Aloha Mr.Hand!

    • Better hope the UPS guy is not lactose intolerant!

Anyone looking to sell their G2 or N1?I just received an upgrade in june and got the MTGS because at the time TMO didn’t have the strong lineup of smart phones as they do now. I called TMO for hoping they could do something for me and asked about a G2 the best they could do was offer it fro 217 with the upgrade fee. I hate my MTGS the only thing I like is the keyboard. So if anyone is looking to sell either a N1 or G2, I am looking to buy

  • phonegeek

Ok so I received my G2 dec 22nd an literally fell in love. I’ve played with the mytouch 4g which is nice and all,but I feel such quality in this g2. I’m actually surprised at how fast it is (I kept hearing download speeds were horrible) but I see that was just hate. G2= quality phone, even if you don’t get this free try it out ….its worth it. (Written with my newly owned G2)

  • Mocha

I called on two separate occasions to take advantage of this deal and they rejected me. Then, I was sent a text message saying that my device has been shipped out only to find out they charged me $449 for it and extended my contract for 2 years without any authorization! After a few minutes on the phone with customer care, they waived the $449 price of the phone so I guess I did get end up getting it for free.

    Thanks a lot TMONEWS.com

Also, people who hate on the hinge need to relax. Maybe I’m just not as critical because my g2 was FREE!

  • Jeff

I ordered mine FREE from Loyalty last Wednesday and have been messing with it since Monday. IT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Battery life is AMAZING. In and out of signal at work all day because the reception here is awful – I used to leave with almost no battery left on my G1. I’ve been training the battery and it died last night FINALLY after playing two youtube videos in the browser at the same time – at midnight. Overclocked.

I overclocked to 1.5 ghz and hoooooooooooooooooleyyyyyyyyyyyyy shit the phone is plenty fast!

Screen is a nice combination of ‘big enough’ but not so huge that it makes the phone too large.

Fit and finish is superb and the Z-hinge won’t ruin the inside of the phone like the G1’s slide did. There was no way around getting pocket gunk between the top and bottom and it tearing up the finish inside.

    The camera is VERY good!

Bluetooth Voice Control! FINALLY!!!! YEAHHHH!!!!! Press the button and it says stuff over the headset and you talk back!!!! WOO!!!! Only took two years!!!! I didn’t check if the BTVC works with Android speech input or not but I presume it works phone-wide.

Once you root it and turn on the “Press trackpad to wake” feature it is less of a pain in the ass to wake up.

Speaker is QUITE loud but on the back.

    Now the bad stuff:

I don’t like the keyboard layout but I’m sure I will get used to it. Also, the spacebar is awful. The middle of it is “dead” and it’s hard to press the buttons on the edge because of the raised border.

The earpiece speaker is hard to line up for best sound. When I first got the phone everyone was muffled and quiet but I realized I was holding the phone too far backward – where it feels natural to position it. I have to make sure I have the earpiece far enough forward so that the left corner is actually resting between the helix and antihelical fold of my left ear.

The hinge is loose but it isn’t a deal breaker.

The hinge doesn’t let you open the phone with confidence. It always feels like it’s going to fling away onto the floor.

The lack of dedicated hard buttons is sorely missed. The capacitive navigation buttons are awkward. The trackpad isn’t half as good as the one on my wife’s BB. The camera button feels like it needs to be damn near pushed inside the case to take a picture.

Just like the G1, the antenna is RIGHT where you grab it to when the keyboard is out. SO… texting on the couch = 4G, pooping on the potty = EDGE. At least in my house, you may have better reception on your toilet.

Uh… I guess that’s it? Maybe if it had NFC?

  • HYE_TECH

I just bought a Vibrant in August and I got my free G2 yesterday as well but unfortunately I have to wait for a replacement. I have a dead pixel on the G2, not bad but annoying over time. Overall, the quality is superb. I’m in Philadelphia (1st city to go HSPA+) and I’m not getting the speeds I was hoping for. It’s almost the same as my Vibrant. The only thing I’m going to miss is the Vibrant’s screen and .mkv playability. First thing I did was check the G2 GPS. It freaking works. I had no doubt since it’s an HTC product and it worked indoors where my Vibrant wouldn’t. (This is my 2nd Vibrant as well, my first one screen got messed up as well and had bad GPS).

  • Everyone upgrading from the original G1 data plans, make sure they don’t try to jack up the price for the “new” “4G” plan rate. They tried that with me and I shut the rep down quick.

He said, “Ok, now we’re going to add the new data plan with 4G speed and it’s only going to cost you an extra $5 a mo…..” and I cut him off there. I told him nicely that since I have an existing 19.95 G1 plan I am supposed to be grandfathered in. He put me on hold for a few minutes and said his manager approved using the existing plan price.

Now of course I have to verify that my bill hasn’t changed since TMO is great for customer support but TERRIBLE for billing problems.

I called tmobile and got my G2 on the first night I saw the post on here and received a day later. Let me just say this is my first Android phone and I am very happy with it, it freaking awesome its fast, speedy, and no lag I think I might be a android fan afterall now

  • TC

Called on Monday the 20th, qualified for two of them free :)
USPS regular shipping seemed ok, so I expected them Friday the 24th at the latest, and thats what the tracking number said as well… Friday came and went and I figured the storm + Christmas had delayed it. No big deal.

It’s now Wednesday the 29th, and USPS has no idea where the phones are, and T-Mobile is doing a “Handset research”.

Anyone have any experience with this?

  • jaZzyjeff

Is this promotion still going on? Anyone know?

    • Yeah, I’d like to know too. My mom’s phone broke and I’d like to get her on an Android phone, but naturally she just wants a free phone. :P

    • Crazeedogs

yes. .As long as you have good credit, current on bill, and qualify for an upgrade.

Well, T-mobile has just lost a very loyal customer since 1997. I requested information on th G2 last week and they did not mention this to me at all. I just spoke with the loyalty department and was told, “SORRY!!!” but you were not one of them. I told him since I was being treated this way I was going to let my 4 contracts expire and go somewhere else, He stated sorry you feel that way I will notate your account and he hung up on me. They can kiss my @$$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Crazeedogs

I just called them today (1/4/11), and they honored the free phone, because your Blog was still posted! YAY!

  • Billoweb

Thank you kindly. Just today, I just got a free g2, plus no activation fee or shipping on a 2 year contract.

  • I just took advantage of this yesterday. We called Customer Support a number of times over the last few weeks and received a variety of responses. One rep a couple of weeks ago indicated that the deal was no longer active, but suggested we try again between Jan 17-19. The rep I spoke with yesterday confirmed that yes, this deal comes and goes for a couple of days at a time. So, it’s somewhat hit or miss it seems.
