I ordered mine (er, my husband’s) yesterday and it just arrived! I declined the “express” shipping so was very surprised to see it already. Thanks for the tip, TMONews!

    • Will

Tmobile has like THE fastest shipping lol. I never do express shipping because I have never had to wait more than 2 days to receive my phone!! Their shipping tactics are on point that’s for dang sure!

Enjoy, glad you got to take advantage of the offer. UPS shows mine will be here tomorrow =D

  • Anonymous

hey, let us know if MyTouch 4G gets a similar (free) deal, been wanting to upgrade, but all the promo pricing I’ve seen are for new customers only. hope to see if Tmo will do this loyalty thing again.

  • Ixz72

God Bless Tmobile… I got me a new phone upgrade for FREE. Ordered it last night and it’s already arriving tomorrow. Now that’s service!!! Yeah I signed a 2-year contract, but with service like that I don’t intend to take my business elsewhere.

    • Ixz72

Thanks David!!! This news came right on time. My G1 was on it’s last breath (battery was only lasting about 4 hours). My upgrade process was slightly painful. First I was told that I did not qualify for the free G2 program and I was not eligible for an upgrade for another 5 months. I explained to them the situation with my G1 and told them that I have been a T-mobile customer for 10 years. The customer service rep put me on hold for exactly 2 minutes and then came back on the line and said his manager approved my eligibility. Now I know why I have stayed with T-mobile for 10 years.

  • Doug

I called yesterday and upgraded both my G1 and my wife’s G1. They offered to drop the data plan to $20 each (down from our current $25) if I bought the $6/month insurance, which I did. I took the cheapest shipping instead of the rush, but then they waived the shipping cost, too. Summary: Two new G2 phones are on the way at $0 total. Priceless! Especially when I was expecting to pay $262 with the BOGO deal, and expected the data plan to jump to $30/month.

  • Flaviom

It seems the G2 promo is over. My brother called in yesterday and got in. I tried calling today and i got an offer for 99.99 on the MyTouch 4g or G2. Not bad but I’d rather drop another 100 at BB and get the Nexus S.

  • http://twitter.com/skozsert James Treszoks

I didn’t get in on the plan, which is ok, but the cs said something hilarious. I mentioned being unhappy with the new data policies (half the cap I signed up for 2 years ago and the tethering fee w/o cap upgrade). The cs rep said every carrier had the exact same policy and it was a new law by the FCC. When I mentioned Sprint has no cap on their “4g” wimax he told me that I was mistaken and that was against the law. I don’t know if he thought I was too stupid to find the Sprint website and read terms or if he is just that misinformed. In either case it was very unimpressive. I’m not planning on leaving Tmob any time soon, I’ve been with them since the Voicestream days, but I think they could do a little better than that for cs reps.

  • JSmith

So lately my calls with Tmobile have been dropping like crazy. They’re telling me that my sim card is old and that if I take my sim card and put it in a new device it’ll work (mmmm hmmmmm) Then they told me to take out the battery and off turn the wifi and turn on my phone. Tmobile is telling me that because if the 2g, 3g and wifi my calls would drop. Now i live in the NJ/nyc area. Where frequency and signals are all over the place. really cs reps.

BB has not given me what I have been wanting and I am looking to leave bb and go to the nexus s or the g2.

When I receive a text on my bb for some reason, I cannot open the new text from the recent contact but I can open other texts form other contacts. and then after 30 minutes I can finally read the text from the user I WANT. sometimes I have to act like im sending a text by going to my sms folder, create a new sms and enter the contact who’s text I want to open and hit ok. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

My youtube videos are always buffering even if I have it on pause for minutes so I can watch my favorites videos without interruption.

Aim and yahoo icons don’t show even though I have the lastest BB versions.

The bbm is slow at times and the messages are more delayed than a flight from JFK.

RIM really needs to step up their game up SERIOUSLY!

g2 here i come with my great years of cs management skills and trust me I always get my way.

  • TMO4LIFE

would i be able to get a discount as a reasonable price if i barely upgraded my plan 10 months ago? =

  • Greed

Thanks tmo new…for sending hordes of people to call in and extend the hold times for customers that have real problems, and need them fixed. Most of the people understood if they did not quality, but you sent some really greedy people T-Mobile’s way that have some sense of entitlement. “I’ve been with T-Mobile for 2 years and I paid my bill on time. I should get a free phone, even if the sale is over or I don’t have a upgrade available. I’m a loyal customer”. Get over yourselves, T-Mobile is a SERVICE PROVIDER, that sells a service and like any other bill, you need to pay on time. You don’t call the power company any say “I’ve paid my power bill on time, I deserve free power”. They would laugh you off the phone. So for those of you that had a REAL problem and got it fixed with the G2 that’s what loyalty is for. But for those of you just calling in to make some reps horrible, stand in the mirror next time your talking to customer care and being greedy and look at yourself… will you be able to see WHAT you realy are…I think not. So please, please go to sprint or verizon so when I call in I can get my problem fixes in a timely manner, and have fun with that. Marry Christmass to all the others.

    • Julia

lmao yes, it will be a VERY “Marry” “Christmass” for me and my FREE G2!! Thanks

    • Drew

What a stupid and selfish, self-serving post… It’s Christmas and EVERYBODY is busy this time of year. Know one cares that you had to wait just a few more minutes to get your needs attended to, other people called for different issues don’t be so stupid as to blame TMONews for the delay. Learn to spell “Merry” and “Christmas” the next time you’re on hold…

    • waiting on real phone from TMO

Dif between Tmobile and Power company…power company makes money off power, tmo makes money off contracts. If Tmo only gives new customers free G2 and tells their “loyal” customers to go screw themselves if they want the same phone free then are they really trying to make money or give their “loyal” any reason to stay loyal? I am sure tons of people switched when they couldn’t get the G2. As far a customer service goes, Tmo is great. As far as treating potential customer as fair as actual customers, Tmo just got a fail on that one.

  • TMoFan

I ended up getting an offer for $199 and after dealing with several reps I took it. I’m just seven months into my contract so the fact that I got a deal for $199 is good enough for me. I finally spoke with a rep who knew what loyalty data was and added it on for me. Overall I’m happy. Thanks David!

    • Jmilord

Excuse me…what is loyalty data??? Please do tell.

  • Blasky

Missed this deal.. but was wondering:

    a) Would have been worth giving up the grandfathered $5.99 Tzones plan for; …. Or …..

    b) I am better off grabbing a Nexus S or WP&7 phone at full price, and keeping the $5.99 Tzones?

btw – anyone know if the 5.99 Tzones is considered unlimited data when used in conjuction with a smartphone?

    Thanks…

    • http://twitter.com/blacksilva88 Blacksilva

Not sure if either work with that plan. The Nexus One and HD2 work with it as if it was the $30 data plan.

      • Anonymous

I use my hd2 on a 10$ unlimited phone plan. But then again thats cheating =].

  • Axe

FINALLY after calling for the 3rd time day b4 yesterday i got 2 G2 4 FREE one for me and one for my wife even though i upgraded her line 6 months ago :D. Thank you David

  • erica best

I am so happy for my new free phone thanks for this post. I got it today yayaay

  • Wantagooddeal

Just tried it an they offered me the G@ at 149 or BOGO. Plenty of other providers and smart phone offers out there. Hasta, magenta!

    • http://twitter.com/thecheat thecheat

The only better deal that I have seen from another carrier is a refurb iPhone 4 if you switch to AT&T. I think the refurb 16 gig is $150 which is still the same price as the G1 from Loyalty and as a new customer you get their suck-ass data tiering.

      • Really,No 4g?

The G2 doesn’t compare to the Iphone but even giving the G2 parity, why would I stay if I don’t get a better deal? TMo is not a significant 4g provider, the phones have sucked for years, and we are only now discovering the security flaws inherent in the android open marketplace. I have three lines ready for an upgrade, and I was told I cant even keep my original cell plan. They want me to pay more for a 4g data plan that isn’t available where I live, and almost 40 a month more for a plan that doesn’t even have texting? What kind of loyalty program is that?

Thanks again for the timely reporting of this great news. I am currently setting up my wife’s new G2 as I type. It arrived in 2 days with free expedited shipping and with the addition of the $20 preferred android plan. She is going to love her new phone! Tmonews gave a lot of readers a Christmas Gift this year. Thank you, from a family of 5.

Also, all EA games such as Need For Speed Shift HD and Sims 3 HD are only $0.99 in the Android Market!!! Unfortunately I can’t find carrier billing in my options…..

  • http://www.shadestrades.wordpress.com shadestrades

As a current G1 owner, I tried it on the day it was posted on TMONEWS. They told me I had 4 months left on my contract and that I would have to wait until late February to get a deal. So T-Mobile has sealed the deal with me. I will be with Verizon as soon as my contract ends. I was going to switch, but the free G2 option would have been worth it. I was with SunCom until they were bought by T-Mobile. The 3G network in Charleston, SC has too many dead spots for me.

    • http://twitter.com/DaBlkbear Terrell Jones

There are always deals during the year, but the end of your contract, there may be a deal that works for you. But if the dead spots are killing you, guess it would not actually have mattered if you could have gotten a deal now or not.

  • Falcolgb

Awesome Deal!!! I’m happy to have a G2 now.

  • http://thecryptonline.com TheCrypt

Ordered mine Monday night received both of my G2′s today. I’m very pleased and the device is better than expected.

Anyone looking to sell their G2 or N1?I just received an upgrade in june and got the MTGS because at the time TMO didn’t have the strong lineup of smart phones as they do now. I called TMO for hoping they could do something for me and asked about a G2 the best they could do was offer it fro 217 with the upgrade fee. I hate my MTGS the only thing I like is the keyboard. So if anyone is looking to sell either a N1 or G2, I am looking to buy

  • phonegeek

Ok so I received my G2 dec 22nd an literally fell in love. I’ve played with the mytouch 4g which is nice and all,but I feel such quality in this g2. I’m actually surprised at how fast it is (I kept hearing download speeds were horrible) but I see that was just hate. G2= quality phone, even if you don’t get this free try it out ….its worth it. (Written with my newly owned G2)

  • Mocha

I called on two separate occasions to take advantage of this deal and they rejected me. Then, I was sent a text message saying that my device has been shipped out only to find out they charged me $449 for it and extended my contract for 2 years without any authorization! After a few minutes on the phone with customer care, they waived the $449 price of the phone so I guess I did get end up getting it for free.

    Thanks a lot TMONEWS.com

Also, people who hate on the hinge need to relax. Maybe I’m just not as critical because my g2 was FREE!

  • HYE_TECH

I just bought a Vibrant in August and I got my free G2 yesterday as well but unfortunately I have to wait for a replacement. I have a dead pixel on the G2, not bad but annoying over time. Overall, the quality is superb. I’m in Philadelphia (1st city to go HSPA+) and I’m not getting the speeds I was hoping for. It’s almost the same as my Vibrant. The only thing I’m going to miss is the Vibrant’s screen and .mkv playability. First thing I did was check the G2 GPS. It freaking works. I had no doubt since it’s an HTC product and it worked indoors where my Vibrant wouldn’t. (This is my 2nd Vibrant as well, my first one screen got messed up as well and had bad GPS).

Everyone upgrading from the original G1 data plans, make sure they don’t try to jack up the price for the “new” “4G” plan rate. They tried that with me and I shut the rep down quick.

He said, “Ok, now we’re going to add the new data plan with 4G speed and it’s only going to cost you an extra $5 a mo…..” and I cut him off there. I told him nicely that since I have an existing 19.95 G1 plan I am supposed to be grandfathered in. He put me on hold for a few minutes and said his manager approved using the existing plan price.

Now of course I have to verify that my bill hasn’t changed since TMO is great for customer support but TERRIBLE for billing problems.

I called tmobile and got my G2 on the first night I saw the post on here and received a day later. Let me just say this is my first Android phone and I am very happy with it, it freaking awesome its fast, speedy, and no lag I think I might be a android fan afterall now

  • TC

Called on Monday the 20th, qualified for two of them free :)
USPS regular shipping seemed ok, so I expected them Friday the 24th at the latest, and thats what the tracking number said as well… Friday came and went and I figured the storm + Christmas had delayed it. No big deal.

It’s now Wednesday the 29th, and USPS has no idea where the phones are, and T-Mobile is doing a “Handset research”.

Anyone have any experience with this?

  • jaZzyjeff

Is this promotion still going on? Anyone know?

    • http://twitter.com/UnkzDomain Ankush G

Yeah, I’d like to know too. My mom’s phone broke and I’d like to get her on an Android phone, but naturally she just wants a free phone. :P

Well, T-mobile has just lost a very loyal customer since 1997. I requested information on th G2 last week and they did not mention this to me at all. I just spoke with the loyalty department and was told, “SORRY!!!” but you were not one of them. I told him since I was being treated this way I was going to let my 4 contracts expire and go somewhere else, He stated sorry you feel that way I will notate your account and he hung up on me. They can kiss my @$$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Crazeedogs

I just called them today (1/4/11), and they honored the free phone, because your Blog was still posted! YAY!

  • Billoweb

Thank you kindly. Just today, I just got a free g2, plus no activation fee or shipping on a 2 year contract.

I just took advantage of this yesterday. We called Customer Support a number of times over the last few weeks and received a variety of responses. One rep a couple of weeks ago indicated that the deal was no longer active, but suggested we try again between Jan 17-19. The rep I spoke with yesterday confirmed that yes, this deal comes and goes for a couple of days at a time. So, it’s somewhat hit or miss it seems.
