Update: This might have been premature with more recent information stating that the Android 2.3 update should be coming in a “few weeks” for Nexus One users.  So after all that, Engadget deleted the story.  Guess no site is perfect.

Nexus One owners who might be feeling a little less love from Google today with the official unveiling of the Nexus S might want to reconsider those feelings. Gingerbread, better known as Android 2.3, is officially on its way to Nexus One owners starting today.  Let us know below if you manage to get that lovely OTA update message and any early thoughts on the changes!

Anyone have any info on what we N1 users can expect with wifi calling?

      • Bobert

WOW that new keyboard for GB looks really nice. Also the new CC&P method looks really really nice!!
I guess they changed the notification area to black to save battery so great maybe I will get more use out of my N1 before charging.

wifi calling can be had now from XDA, and works with Tmo on my N1. Wifi calling is native in gingerbread.

i see no other reports anywhere about an update. hmmm

  • Htyoung

WTF, no sd AND no headphone jack. Why must T-mo always cut corners and leave out key features.

    • Bobert

if you are talking about the Nexus S yes it had a headphone jack.

      • phoneboy

T-mobile had ntohing to do with designing the phone? this was a venture between Google and Samsung, they just happen to be offering it on T-mobiles network.

One possible reason for changing the notification area to black would be to reduce the burnout that occured on some Nexus One handsets, like mine had done.

Just bought the G2 I hope this phone gets the update. I recently upgraded from the nexus one but still have it.

  • Iwantcredits09

This has nothing to do with the Nexus or anything but will the G2 be capable of updating to Gingerbread or no? Cause I heard that since the G2 only has an 800 MHz processor or something like that, that it wouldn’t be capable of running on Gingerbread.

    • zame

lmao whoever told you that is retarded, because the 800mhz processor that G2 has is SECOND gen, and it faster than every processor out there except THE MYTOUCH 4G

      • Iwantcredits09

Lol okay, so I’m taking that as a yes then.

        • phoneboy

The G2 has a second gen 1 gig processor its just factory under clocked to 800 mhz. Since it is stock android i don’t see why they wouldn’t put 2.3 on it.

I think the G2 more than any other t-mobile android device. The operating system is the cleanest and it’s benchmark score is the highest in regards to performance

Great for Nexus One owners. Now, if only T-Mobile can get the updates for other phones it’s been promising out the door. T-Mobile’s been saying the myTouch 3g Slide would get updated to 2.2 “soon” since the Slide’s release over 6 months ago in May. T-Mobile must be a great place to work, as deadlines labeled as “soon” apparently mean “closer to 1 year away than 0 years away”.

just for future reference, If anyone has noticed, the android devices that receive the legit firmware operate core android OS (G2, Nexus, Optimus(close). That means it must have what android meant for it because after its created, proprietary software has to be reformatted for compatibility purposes (Moto Blur, Galaxy S, Sense, Mytouch 3G.
