T-mobile is really going to draw out this whole limited knowledge launch of the G2. This time, though, we have some confirmation on what you can actually expect. It is well known that this will be the first HSPA+ phone, and T-mobile is telling you to “brace yourself for blazing-fast downloads, browsing and search” on the “fastest smartphone experience in America.” Another note, and I do not get sick of posting this, vanilla Android 2.2 out of the box with one-touch quick keys (for quick access to Google shortcuts and applications) and Adobe Flash Player 10.1 ready (which probably means you will have to download it from the market yourself). T-Mobile is also confirming that that Qualcomm MSM 7230 Scorpion silicone will be clocked at 800 MHz. I know some of you wish it was clocked up to 1 GHz, but you need to remember that GHz isn’t everything. Nothing really new there, but some official confirmation is always good. So we’ve seen images, have a great guess at a release date and a pretty decent idea as to what to expect inside the device. How about price, you guys want to know price don’t you? Well as the above image shows the price of the T-Mobile G2 with Google will drop in right in line with other smartphones across the market at $199.99 with a $50 mail in rebate on Even More plans. Even More Plus customers, you’ll be paying $499.99, which is pretty much in line with expectations as well. No real surprises here but its always nice to have an idea what to expect and who are we kidding, you guys were begging to get this information. So there you have it, we delivered.

Of course, you remember that leaked G2 ROM. It did just leak a couple of days ago. Anyway, some brave souls have taken the time to flash their (rooted) devices with the leaked ROM and come across some interesting finds. Namely, there are some included Apps and Widgets that definitely mark this as a T-Mobile phone, but we knew that already. Up above is the G2’s noteworthy welcome screen, making sure to note the speeds that this device will enjoy. The rest of the screenshots can be found below. So take your time, stay awhile, and leave your thoughts in the comments!

Right after the announcement this morning of the T-Mobile G2 with Google, Scott of Androidguys and I discussed this announcement for a few minutes. In passing though he mentioned to me that he had done a little extra legwork after his recent findings hidden away in the US Trademark office. T-Mobile has apparently gone and grabbed two more trademarks in the form of…drum roll…the “MyTouch HD” and “The Family Network.” Now the MyTouch HD should come as no surprise since we expect that device to come our way sometime between now and the end of the year. The Family Network however is another story and has my mind racing with hope that T-Mobile is going to drop some news in the coming months. Perhaps a revamp of the Family Plans in an effort to grab some customers away from their larger competition, possibly in the form of reduced pricing or the ability to add more than 5 lines. It’s all speculation at this point but we’ll be hoping for more details and certainly keep digging!

In the recent days, weeks and months, I have seen the name “Project Emerald” tossed around to almost every single smartphone that T-Mobile might get. At this point, I have to say I’m a little frustrated with how frequently and how loosely it’s being used. To that end, the name itself has almost lost its luster in my eyes because of the guessing game being played hoping to nail the story. When we first got word of a “Project Emerald”, we were almost positive, or at least our source was positive, it was a Sidekick-like replacement, possibly with Android. In recent days, we’ve seen it addressed as any number of upcoming T-Mobile phones and watched our comment section fill up with other, often far-reaching theories. So what do we think Project Emerald is now? Is it a device or a rocketship?
You’ll have to bear with us as it’s likely some of you will think our connection here is rather thin. Rest assured I wouldn’t run this without doing at least a little fact checking of my own. We’re going with the idea that Project Emerald is simply the HTC Emerald aka the myTouch HD. Why are we saying this? Simple, the use of codenames. The original myTouch3G was codenamed Sapphire, a precious gem. The codename for the myTouch HD is “Emerald”. While to some of you it’s thin, very thin, and you’ll doubt it right from the get go, according to our source the use of precious gems is no coincidence. The Shubert, as far as Windows 7 Phones go, will be the HTC Mozart, classical composers. Like I said, reaching. So I know we’re stretching here and it’s always-possible information is delivered wrong, sources give bad information or things change internally but I tend to think we’re right.
So what do we know?
HTC Emerald = myTouch HD.
The HTC Vanguard/Vision will be named the T-Mobile G2 with Google according to one of our sources. Another stated it would simply be called the T-Mobile G2. Apparently G1 Blaze is out and was just an internal codename. It is our belief that judging by the roadmap that thus far has looked very accurate, the T-Mobile G2 will deliver itself sometime in the middle of September. Of course, it’s odd that as of now we haven’t received much in the way of tips regarding it save for the few shaky images that have made their way to the interwebs. Still, we’re still looking for a September 9th launch.
But, hey, we wouldn’t leave you without some information on the myTouch HD now, would we? One of our sources apparently had some hands on time today and came back with one very important piece of information. According to him, as the phone stands right now, there will be a Front Facing Camera. The screen itself is bigger than the N1 and noticeably so but definitely not 4.3 inches. The phone itself runs the same espresso sense as the myTouch Slide though we didn’t get word on what version of Android.
P.S. That Sidekick theory that started all this Project Emerald mess? Pushed back to 2011.

Quite a few of you have written in with complaints that the Samsung Vibrant is suffering from a GPS issue causing the phone to take forever to lock onto a GPS signal. Along with that, it can lock your signal, but incorrectly place your location and that just isn’t good. The fine folks at XDA developers are on the job and have come up with a temporary fix until Samsung fixes the issue with the next software update. If you aren’t comfortable doing a little tweaking to your phone, we suggest holding off until Samsung handles this or find someone who will fearlessly work your phone for you.
Fix your T-Mobile Vibrant GPS issues:
- Disable “Use Wireless Networks”
- Navigate to Settings > Location & Security > uncheck the box next to “Use Wireless Networks”
- Go to the phone and dial *#*#1472365#*#*
- This step throws you into LBSTestMode menu
- In the LBSTestMode menu change “Operation Mode” to MS Based
- In the LBSTestMode menu, find “SUPL/CP Settings” and change the SERVER & PORT to supl.google.com and port 7276 (DO NOT use www. in front of supl)
- REBOOT
- Enable “Use Wireless Networks”
- Navigate to Settings > Location & Security > check the box next to “Use Wireless Networks”
Should you want to revert back to your original GPS settings, you’ll need to re-enter you factory specs:
Original settings:
Operation Mode: Standalone
SERVER: www.spirent-lcs.com
PORT: 7275
According to XDA, Samsung is aware of the problem and are looking to fix any issues with the next software update. Until then, for most of you this should provide some relief on an already frustrating issue. Just use caution when doing anything to your phone! We aren’t responsible for your phone ending up as a 4” paperweight.

Well that was quick! The Nexus One is no longer available for purchase through Google. This news shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Google had forewarned us last week that it had received its very last shipment of Nexus One handsets. So we bid the first “Superphone” farewell. R.I.P Nexus One.
