Ice Cream Sandwich Powered HTC Ville Coming To T-Mobile?

Oh what excellent timing…right on the heels of our report on T-Mobile’s first quarter device roadmap, comes a report from the boys at PocketNow indicating the HTC Ville, an Ice Cream Powered Android device is headed to Magenta. Like PocketNow, we aren’t particularly surprised by this report given T-Mobile’s love for high-end HTC hardware.

The Ville is reported to sport a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 4.3″ qHD display, point-and-shoot quality camera and a sub-eight millimeter hardware frame. Sounds awesome. The question we’re asking…is the Ville one of our mystery dates or can we expect to see this later in the year? Once again, we’re going back to work on finding out.

Hmm… looks like an upgraded HTC Sensation

    • Anonymous

Most of HTC’s handsets look like the Sensation. That can be good or bad depending on your viewpoint.

      • http://cosmicbreeze.tumblr.com/ DtheArtist

Yeah, true. I guess it’s somewhere in the middle between good & bad.

        • Anonymous

HTC hasn’t done much lately to differentiate their handsets. To me, they all look like re-hashes. (Which they pretty much are…)

    • Aaron_phonedog

If you have an amaze, and you upgrade android to 4.0..It is pretty much the same phone.
The body is going to be the Sensation, so if you like the Sensation look with the Amaze engine with android 4.0.
Basically, making this new phone is completely unnecessary from a consumer standpoint because you with the upgrade of your Amaze to 4.0 it will be the same phone inside a HTC Sensation body. Why would T MObile do this you ask. Because T Mobile wants to market a product that can compete with the new Nexus. Simple as that.
I hate T Mobile. They just don’t have consistently working service, or consistent 4g

  • Anonymous

no 720p screen? Do we really need a Sensation 1.3?

  • Anonymous

Had my interested until I saw three words: “With HTC Sense.” Pass.

    • Derrickps3

whats bad about htc sense?? lol

        what’s good about HTC sense?

    • Derrickps3

whats bad about htc sense?? lol

    Look! Its a Sensation! Its an Amaze!  No… Its a Vi-another 4.3″ qHD 1.5Ghz Dual-Core HTC phone on T-Mobile…

    • Anonymous

This time last year people were BEGGING for at least one 4.3″ HTC android phone.

      • Anonymous

I sure was but 3 of the same phone just doesn’t make sense

    • Realcool2000

All other carriers have phones that are clones of eachothe as well.

Everyone complains that tmo doesnt come out with new phones with strong processors, and when they do its met with this kind of bad attitude.

At this point until quad core comes out, all phones will be virtually the same. Att has lime 3 gala y s2 variants and Verizon as well.

Tmo coming out with new strong phones should be met with support instead of complaints that they are too similar to other strong tmo phones.

No its not a Nexus Galaxy phone but that doesnt mean the Blaze and this one should shot down for any reason.

      • Tbyrne

        Totally agree!!!

      • Anonymous

I won’t win this argument so I’m not gonna go into it.

What I will say is that having 3 VERY similar devices means they will cannibalize sales unless at least one is prematurely EOL’d just like the G2x. The Sensation is only 6 months old after all.

        • Anonymous

not really, it comes down to looks and preferences. A customer like me that likely won’t go for an HTC – to me they’re heavier and with subpar camera quality. Tho the phone does look nice but I’m also not feeling Sense…

      • CES Consumer

it is a phone that T Mobile can market with Android 4.0, and T Mobile would feel the need to do ths because T Mobile won’t have the New Nexus that packages 4.0.
Why T MObile doesn’t get these higher end phones is because the manufacturers of the great phones like iphone, doesn’t like T Mobiles lack of coverage spotty service, and is because of there network gaps, and Apple doesn’t like tmobiles engineering and qulaity of deployment. Apple doesn’t want their products to be able to be used only sometimes. T Mobile should invest money into makng their network covering more areas consistently and with more consistent 4g and to make sure your phone doesnt lose its signals indoors and you are able to use your phone indoors

        • Tmoguy1

Sorry, but have you ever tried Iphone on At&t’s network? Spotty doesn’t even cover it. And I’m in Brooklyn. If Apple doesn’t sell to companies due to spotty coverage, then At&t and Sprint would never have sold the device.

I see you had bad service, but really Apple just wants money like everyone else. T-mobile doesn’t have it because they have not signed a contract promising billions to Apple like Sprint did.  If Tmo pays the right price to Apple, All tmo customers would have access to iphone.

    • Ex T Mobile Client

anything to get a person to sign up on their inconsistent spotty network. The bait are these really cool phones. I had the Amaze 4g, greatest phone on the market in my opinion, but what my phone couldn’t get 4g consistently, would lose coverage because T Mobile didn’t have it, and wouldn’t work indoors. Sad. Great phone, shitty coverage.

      • Tmoguy1

Depends where you live. I have great coverage on Tmo in Brooklyn, but wish they had cooler phones. Personally, I like smaller phones but want all the high-end specs. With tmobile I have to buy a huge phone to have all the good stuff.

I wish they’d release a 4 inch screen, ultra thin, Duo-core, Hi-def screen, good camera. etc. Not really an Iphone fan, but some people do like smaller phones tmo.

        • Anonymous

If they had it ppl would cry just like they are about this phone.

        • Tmoguy1

I think this looks nice though. I like that metal and glass look. Kinda classier than the plastic feel of the sensation. I have Amaze, but it’s so bulky.

        • dissapointedinhtc

Looks like more of the same crap from htc when are they gonna try a new design the sensation and amaze have good specs but they are bulky and ugly especially the amaze

    • Which way is Up?

Funny you should mention. I got rid of my Sensation to make way for the Amaze. After owning that brick for 3 weeks, decided to go for a Sensation XE.

I totally agree with you. The Sensation and Amaze were too similar in spec and design wise. It would be great if the Ville came with a higher def screen, at least something to seperate it from its other 2 siblings.

      • Anonymous

Exactly, and sorry about your bricks lol.

      • http://twitter.com/bunky1971 Bunky

where did you find the xe w/ our 1700 band? welectronics and a co in ny,ny claimed the were 1700 compatible, but havent been able to find anyone to confirm.

  • Anonymous

Sense? No thanks. Totally ruins the ICS experience. ICS is so nice it doesn’t need any UI overlay

    • Nick

dude you haven’t even seen sense on 4.0 yet so you can’t say that it’ll ruin it.

it may, but you can’t say that for sure.

      • Anonymous

Dont need to see sense, its bloatware, plain and simple. Sense 3.0 lagged the Sensation and Amaze so bad that they’re barely on par with other Android devices released around the same time unless you root and wipe Sense. Sense was cool when Android was new and lacking features, now its just worthless.

  • Ilyas_k15

Good looking device. Pretty much an Amaze 4G in a new wrapper. I am 100% sure that HTC is gonna mess up the audio on the camcorder again. Why aren’t they doing anything to fix it?

    • Anonymous

Because why fix when you can just release 15 phones a year?!

  • Anonymous

Beautiful, but I do not like the usb port on the side. Hate that.

  • secano

    I want 720p.

    • http://twitter.com/crankmosh Doc Mosh

      SECONDED!

  • Anonymous

It would be cool if T-Mobile made this a ‘G’ phone and stock UI the sucker. Galaxy Nexus who?

    • Anonymous

Yes, why can’t we see another pure Android device like the nexus one? Mine is still going strong.

      • Anonymous

You can buy an unlocked Galaxy Nexus from NewEgg.

  • http://twitter.com/crankmosh Doc Mosh

    Where’s the 720 screens?

  • Steven Coyle

    I would love a new ” G” phone made by HTC… with the G1 or G2′s keyboard…..I know some people hate/don’t like phones with keyboards…but I still do….

  • Anonymous

I want a 720 4.65″ ++ screen with ICS, in other words, the G nexus, galaxy note, or something similar!!

  • Aaron_PhoneDog

I am pretty sure the new iphone 5 is going to be LTE, which will leave T Mobile out of the loop again.
Apple might feel sympathy for T Mobile and make an iPhone 4 compatible with T Mobile’s bands, but if they did that and it was only 3g..what would be the point?

    • Tmoguy1

Funny I’ve been asking myself questions like that for years regarding Iphone. Why did peopel buy it when it wasn’t even 3G and many other phones were? And now they still but it 3g when so many other phone are 4g. Truth be told, if they release an underperforming, small screen, slow data phone, Apple will still sell through the roof… Oh wait, that’s what Apple always releases.

    • Anonymous

Apple will add the MDM9600 modem chip to Iphone 5 bringing AWS support, Woohooo!

  • Andrew

The only good I can see come out of release of this phone is if the price of the HTC Amaze and HTC Sensation goes down when the Ville or whatever they call it is released.

  • http://www.unscripted360.com Deacon

as long as its compatible with the 42mbps then i’ll keep an eye on it .. if not, meh.

  • http://twitter.com/phonecount StalkyTheFish

Pretty sexy. I love HTC hardware. As long as a ICS Launcher Pro comes out, I’d consider it.

  • Tmoguy1

I don’t see a T-mobile logo up there, so I am currious what this will actually look like on release. If the battery is better than Amaze with same or better camera on a thinner, lighter device, I’ll buy.

i have this phone already, its called the HTC Sensation

Can i get a 720p phone on T-Mobile yet? (I want it to be T-Mobile branded as I NEED Wifi calling)

  • Ibleedmagenta

I see no reason why htc can’t make another G series phone with ‘niller android 4.0 I got turned off when I had the mytouch4g. I was mortified when the g2x was EOL’d as I just bought it. If this means the G2x isn’t getting ics,i will wait and watch for iphone 5, or save for a GNex, which ever comes first.

  • http://twitter.com/FonzyyPaniagua Fonzy Paniagua

What’s so bad about it looking like a sensation? The Sensation is Sexy and This one is just even Better! Keep It Coming HTC

  • Desertbears

Ville will have a SuperAmoled qHD screen, 1.5 S4 processor which will make it better than Amaze or T989 SGSII. Sense skin will be less because most features will be in ICS. I am looking forward to this phone.

    • Whereabrent

Uh, Mr Bear, super amoled is Samsung, I think you are a bit mixed up

      • Anonymous

Nope Samsung may make the screen but it will have a Super Amoled qHD just like the Droid RAZR.

  • Wsc

This is the G3, nothing more.

G phones have keyboards? This doesnt? Just sayin

        G2x?

          G2x was a special edition..not really a “G phone”

  • Youngt82

    Yup T-Mobile G3:D

  • Littlesis1774

No more windows phones for me

  • http://www.unscripted360.com Deacon

well the good thing about it is that obviously HTC is pretty darn close if not finished with the ICS and Sense hookup so current devices with Gingergread may be seeing ICS sooner rather than later.

  • Anonymous

How many times can HTC release the same phone with the same design and same basic hardware?! Geez, HTC needs to calm down. Release a new phone when you have something new to offer. Whats different between this, the htc sensation, and the htc amaze other than a few hundred mhz and a little more ram… while they go nuts releasing the same phone witha  slightly different shell, their “old” phones get left in the dust. I’m frankly done with HTC, tired of their model of to release phones as fast as possible with no interest in quality control. They get shabbier every year.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/SuperElvisfreshlyATT Freshly_Snipes

      Amen!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • UnhappywithAndroid

Agreed. I am pretty happy with my Sensation 4G but wish it could be top of the line for longer. Slow down and make the phones the best they can be!

  • Tmoguy1

I hear the Battery is only 1650. The Amaze battery is bigger and I can’t get 8 hours out of it, so I hope the rumored specs are wrong on battery. But it should be very thin

  • JamesJ

Sense…what a waste. Put stock on this and now we are talkin…

  • Yousef nasrallah

will this phone have the new S4 krait processor built on A15 architecture ? that would be awesome

    • Desertbears

      Yes S4 MSM8960 Krait with 1MB L2 cache

      • Yousef nasrallah

Then this makes it an awesome next gen phone, much better than the galaxy SII with the old A9 cores. This will be a blazing fast phone + the hardware acceleration in the ice cream sandwich

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/SuperElvisfreshlyATT Freshly_Snipes

This is a reshaped Sensation..Same exact stats…WTF is wrong with HTC??? They have lost that “it” factor. My T-Mo Sensation is at 1.5GHz dual core NOW…Same sized screen and camera…We have ICS coming in weeks from now (NOW if you’re on XDA) and we have Sense 4.0…Soooo Again?? Why the hype over the same ol?

    • Anonymous

Do some research & not on Snopes. This phone is next gen.

    • Isaac Lanctot

Everything you said is correct, except your sensation has a 1.2GHz processor. This would be a slight upgrade in form factor and processing speed.

      • Itsvictorious

My Sensation is running @ 1.9. Im anxiously waiting for ICS..

      • Wheresbrent

Same processor, on the HTC sensation it is under locked out of the box…

        • J-Hop2o6

The Ville might have S4 SoC instead of S3 SoC which will be a big improvement over S3 (Sensation and Amaze).

    • Itsvictorious

You are absolutely right Snipes.. HTC is on a serious slack mission.

    • randyohsofly

      Correction.its a reshaped htc amaze.

  • Anonymous

HTC have obviously not learned their lessons. Instead of releasing a million crippled phones with worthless batteries, they should focus on a couple or so and make them the best they can possibly be.
They curse their phones with sense UI that nonsensically slows down the phones and wonder why they’re loosing market share.
Loving my Samsung Galaxy S II. Awesome phone, HTC – POS

    • Going_home

Vanilla Android is the best Android experience no doubt, but by far the Samsung Touchwiz UI is the worst UI. Period.

    • Vim

Qualcomm’s new Krait S4 chips are more power efficient thanks to the die shrink.  That should result in improved battery life for this phone. How much so remains to be seen. Hopefully the difference will be significant.

    • Blaughter

Did you not see the release that htc put out at CES? They are cutting back on the number of phones to produce better handsets. I agree they were getting out of control with the stuff they were releasing.

  • Anonymous

Im not a fan of sense, but i like htcs design. A vanilla ics version of this phone would be ideal. Tmo needs a new vanilla phone in their lineup…the last nilla phone was the g2x right?

    • JBLmobileG1

Yeah I believe it was the G2X. It would be nice if you could be able to choose which Android o/s you wanted… whether it be pure Android or with Sense. I like the Native operating system which is a reason I sorta wanted to pick up the G2X despite of all the issues it had. Too bad its not around anymore… and there is no way I am spending $200+ on the phone when I could upgrade with that kinda cash to one of the more advanced phones… question is.. will any of them have pure Android again.

      • Anonymous

I think tmo actually chose to use vanilla android with the g2x rather than lgs custom ui….lets hope they do that with the ville….if this ends up being the g3, history would show that its guaranteed to run vanilla android. Im wording if this will be tmos first 84mbps device…..too soon to tell i guess

        • Anonymous

Unlikely, Neville Ray said at CES that Qualcomm won’t have any 84mbps chipsets untill 2013.  They are going to work with other chip makers to get 84mbps devices out this year though.

        • Anonymous

Oh ok….maybe samsung will step up…they were the only handset manufacturer that supported 21mbps….what may end up happened is data sticks and mobile hotspots could be the only capable devices for some time while phones will be limited to 42…which isnt necessarily a bad thing

  • Kirbi182

I don’t care for the sense it will get rooted and slapped with CM, but if this phone ships with the S4 SoC I will buy this phone in a heart beat pre-ordered if possible.

  • Anonymous

Some have complained that this ville is too much like the sensation and amaze….rightfully so, but it does have a top notch nextgen processor and ics…both of which are absent in the current devices…..the true crime is the galaxy blaze….as far as im concerned that phone is a gs2 with a slightly bigger screen and more bloatware

    • Kirbi182

lets hope the S4 stays in there, the blaze is not an S2 according to the website it doesn even say super amoled plus, unless they intentionally left it out. So its a POS. lol.

      • infamouslysin

The Samsung blaze is going to replace the Samsung galaxy s 4g… Still not a replacement for the galaxy s 2.

  • Jake34

Get an unlocked galaxy nexus, works beautifully with T-Mobile (3G & 4G) and experience the true, pure and fast ICS Android experience! I was so sick and tired of that stupid Sense 3 and bloatware always running! Almost 3 weeks now and no problems whatsoever! the 720p HD screen is so beautiful!

    • J-Hop2o6

Sucks there’s no Tmo subsidy =(

  • Vim

This sounds like an Amaze with the following alterations:

    1) ICS & Sense 4.0 pre-installed
    2) Thinner
    3) More efficient Qualcomm Krait S4 dual core cpu that should -theoretically- both improve battery life and be a little faster at the same clock speed.
    4) A rear end whose appearance is more like the Sensation’s than the Amaze’s (assuming the pic isn’t just a mock-up.
    5) Beats audio which is basically a nice set of headphones plus some pre-set equalizer settings that favor pop/rap tunes.
    6) According to BGR it will not support NFC due to metal case construction. BGR however has a history of printing rumors that turn out to be false (*cough*IPhone 5*cough*), so we’ll see if this turns out to be true or not.

The only one of these that I’m personally curious about is #3.  Longer battery life is very much needed.  Improved responsiveness is also always a plus.  The rest is meaningless to me.   The Ville is still missing the new feature I’d really like to see the most, a 720P display as on the HTC Rezound and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.  I’m also not thrilled with the rumored removal of NFC.

    • J-Hop2o6

This phone will be fine if the specs hold up. ICS (even tho it will be Sense, but hopefully Sense 4.0 will be a big improvement), S4 (Krait) SoC will be a BIG improvement (ARM A15 @ 28nm, upgraded GPU & dual-channel memory @ 500MHz) from last gen chips. qHD (540p) will be fine, even tho 720p is preferred, but atleast its not WVGA (480p). And the phone looks nice, even tho its similar to previous models. Hopefully it does comes with Beats headphones+audio (ppl will flock to it–hopefully with huge tv marketing).

  • Vim

I’m on the same boat as you. Missing the 720p display is kind of a deal-breaker to me along with NFC, seeing as these both are important, IMO, in ICS (as 720p is the native resolution of ICS and Android Beam..). Plus, even though qHD is still high-resolution, it got obsoleted pretty quick with 720p at the end of 2011.

  • Anonymous

no 720 on ics device ?

I heard from the verge that beats and monster have parted was. So they may have to use left over head phones from the resound. This phone may not even have beats tech in at.

I thank that its a good thang but how this going to happen. And when

  • CliffordBush

How would people that have htc phones. And when would tell people abut it.

I thought it was supposed to be a quadcore.

    • J-Hop2o6

If its S4 (Qualcomm) then it’ll be a dual-core ARM A15, which will be the FIRST A15 released. The current “high-end” chips use ARM A9 right now. Qualcomm might make a quad-core A15 after.

  • CliffordBush

So that that a good thang but what about people how have htc sensation phones and don’t have a new one. Thy why bye a new one so thy can get it

Oh bummer… the obtruding camera ring’s back… I thought we were rid of them for good…

Mostly likely won’t be buying this after so many build quality problems with my Sensation (I used to be a HTC fan before with the HD2)…

Nonetheless, seems like a decent update to the Tmo lineup, with its new generation dual core and being thinner.  It’s going to be interesting to see how well the new processor actually performs in real life. Not so hot with the single LED on the back.

  • az4mecbh

well even if this phone is to come to tmobile, no o.nes going to want to upgrade to something thats no diffrent from what they have. Yet the the new samsung beam looks amazing! Now thats something i want to see hitting stores!!!! HTC allwaysis last when it comes to the new styles. Just ordered an HTC sensation because the amaze wasnt worth the extra money, we’ll see how i like it
