Samsung Galaxy W Press Shots Leak, New Name Unveiled: Samsung Exhibit II 4G

We’ve been hoping to uncover the mystery behind the “Samsung Ancora” ever since the name leaked in the roadmap we acquired almost two weeks ago. We had some pretty good “behind the scenes” indicators the Ancora was actually the international version known as the Galaxy W. Congrats to the boys from Pocketnow have uncovered the very first press shot of the Ancora with T-Mobile branding.

The Ancora is no slouch with a 1.4GHz single-core processor, 3.7″ WVGA display and a 5 megapixel camera make this a great middle-of-the-road smartphone.

There’s an additional surprise tucked away inside this post with a leaked shot of a T-Mobile inventory sheet showing the T679 model number as the Samsung Exhibit II 4G. Our first thought at discovering the Ancora was to place this this as a Samsung Exhibit replacement and as it turns out, our intuition was correct. So there you have it, we dub the Samsung Ancora as the Samsung Exhibit II 4G. Love the long name.

Not a bad looking phone, actually.

Looks like an ugly Blackberry phone! ;)

That has to be a joke.  That looks nothing like blackberry.  I will never understand how blackberry enthusiasts handle those little itty bitty buttons.

    This or galaxy s 2?

I know but isn’t a 4.5″ screen way too big my sensation already feels big enough

        • CMPunk

The phone is so much lighter than the sensation and just a little bigger.  If it’s too big for ya, then look at a 4″ screen.  Although, honestly, the SEnsation is smaller than my G2X with .3″ bigger screen….

How many phones can a company unveil in a month? Its impossible to keep up with android. Therefore i switched to iphone. At least i know that i ll have the latest model for a year. sgs2 will probably be outdated in 2 months.

    • Sanman202

You can keep the Android phone you currently have if you aren’t reading all the latest and greatest. If you bought the GS2 today and keep it over a year that is fine. A dual core 1.5ghz processor will be good for a while. Also, a phone like that will get Ice Cream Sandwich and that will be good for about a year with the updates it will get once you get it.

After my vibrant was updated to froyo ( which took way longer than promised btw) it became laggy and slow. Now the video/ audio player will randomly stop working until u restart the phone. How about the times when skype was available on some phones and not the others? I still cant install skype on my vibrant. I Dont have time figure out how to root my phone or to keep up with the new roms released by developers. I want my phone manufacturer to do all that for me since i paid them money when buying the phone so i can focus on other more important things. Apple will do that for me.

I have not had the same issues with my Vibrant, but I do agree with the flexibility that Android brings also brings app incompatibility.  Most of it is straitened up by now (Hummingbird cpu compatibility) but it took a long time for working versions of certain apps to be put into the Market.  In all honesty i am glad T-mobile went with a Qualcomm cpu for the GS2 (instead of the Xenos) b/c im sure we will see the same issue of certain apps not being compatible with the new style CPU.

In retail, you usually unload during the Christmas season.  They did this last year, too with the releases of the G2, MT4G and about 5 other phones from October-Mid November.

Wow.  Another android phone.  Where are the WP7.5 devices?

    • Dvaughn88

Seriously dude. Stop with the wackness already. WP7.5 sounds more like an easy listening station than a OS anyone cares to hear about. The Radar will release soon enough and THANK GOD that’s the only one T-Mobile will have out for a while. Windows OS has always sucked….. Just like Apple’s does!

    • Realcool2000

      U should start wp7 site….

is it just me or is the average self life of phones actually dropping?  seems its going from 6 months down to 3 now.  The exhibit just came out not too long ago.

    • Sanman202

This phone doesn’t compete directly with the GS2 as it offers a smaller screen and single core processor. It’s just another what will be a mid range Android phone. Yes, the devices are coming in really fast. You will drive yourself crazy trying to keep up with the conveyor belt of devices.

I was surprised how quickly the Exhibit reached end of life as well…typically it’s not normally that short but it was an interesting move on Samsung’s part.

you know what?  this is a very attractive looking Mid range phone.

Oh I think it looks better than the Sidekick 4G, I thought that the sidekick was ugly.

they might as well go to 1 year contracts with the rate of new phones coming out

    • Daghost

My thought is 1yr upgrades for 2yr contracts. That way they won’t be concerned about losing customers.

      • CMPunk

Now you’re talking about potentially losing money to keep customers.  If you want a new phone every so often, grab a value plan…

  • laphoneuser

It kinda boggles my mind that this phone, with a 3.7″ screen, 5MP camera, and a 1.4 ghz processor is being marketed as a “mid range” phone.  I still think of my Vibrant as high end, but this phone’s internals are very similar, and better in some respects.  Times…they are a changin’!

    • J-Hop2o6

its a single core with a mid-size screen.. and it doesn’t look premium, so its a mid-range phone.. good specs for a mid-range phone tho.

I’m willing to bet this mid-range phone is in the neighborhood of $400, which puts it up there with high end smartphones.  That’s what I’d classify it as with these internal specs, especially if it gets an AMOLED.

Just because it’s not a SUPER PHONE does not mean it’s not a hgih-end smartphone.

In other news, I got my galaxy s2 today. My life is now complete.

    • Tortionist

      Ditto

  • Scag52

serious, as a sales rep the release month after month of new phones is getting ridiculous.
I am thrilled of our phone lineup and it would make us complete if T-Mobile had an Iphone but cmon, really? its every other month a new phone is released and I have to deal with customers who come back and bitch that they just got the sensation and 2 months later they want the Amaze or the Galaxy SII.

it needs to stop, we the reps and the customers cant keep up. give us atleast like 6 months to promote , pitch and sell a phone

Nobody will get this when they are selling iPhone 4′s for $99

This is a t-mobile blogsite. Go away!

  • CMPunk

Took the words out of my mouth.  I am going to guess this person is either a) new or b) not really a rep.  All companies get new phones multiple times a month.  The default response is “Well, new phones come out every few weeks, so you could be waiting forever if you wait to get the best phone.”

    Boom.

Welcome to the electronic & retail world.

  • BklynMan

Does anyone knows for sure if this is one of the phones coming out,on the 2nd? What the price will be?
Due for upgrade. Right now Tm,is selling the Exhibit 1 for $14.00 with $50.00 refund card.Don’t really care or need a $200+super phone. I say this to the iphone bah!

For a long time I’ve supported TMobile.  But they blocked Google chat to promote QUIK.

TMobile.  You keep this block.  Ill block you and use another provider.

Google Talk is used Worldwide by too many people and I depend on its use.  QUIK is quirky and doesn’t do the job.

Is this Block on Google Tak  worth dropping TMobile.   Yes it is.   So please give us back Google Talk or else Ill find a provider that does offer.  You lose more in the end.

  • Daddym469

Do any of you guy’s even think before you write. This phone is another well designed Android from Samsung. The reason why it’s being promoted as a mid range is because The new Galaxy s2 has raised the high end bar, with it’s 1.5 dual core. This phone will actually be a cheaper version of the S2.
Calling it the Exhibit 2 helps for marketing purposes since it is another Samsung with features the original Exhibit should have had. Do a little research and you will all discover Samsung has already had great success with This Galaxy W and Galaxy S2 in other countries prior to the US releases. This phone will be Super Amoled, maybe not the Plus version, but Super Amoled for sure. For those of you trying to compare it to present phones on T mobile, please stop! There is not another single core phone currently available on T mobile, with a 1.4 processor! This phone will do very well! The selling points will be the simple design, the processor speed, and that Super Amoled screen!! Go and see the GS2 and you’ll see what I mean. The Amaze has a higher resolution, but the super amoled plus is on another level visually speaking.

Blah Blah… another brick that wont work in a year and you fools keep buying. It amazes me!

You dont see David spending his cash on anything but and iphone since the merger was announced. Still have the mt4g?

Why are you all mindless drones?

Run iOS on an Android phone and see what speed means. I was android all the way until they bent me over. Hated Apple. Hated iTunes. But now, I see the light. Google is charging for their tablet OS.

Its a farce. Lets face it….David had it right all along. Apple will rule the world!
