Samsung Gravity TXT Launches August 24th

The Samsung Gravity TXT isn’t going to receive any of the hoopla the Samsung Hercules will but the TXT is perfect for the heavy texting youngster in your family. The Gravity TXT will be arriving on August 24th and comes complete with 3G (up to 7.2Mbps), 2.4″ display, 2 megapixel rear camera and a preloaded Social buzz app with easy access to all of your favorite social networks.

“The Samsung Gravity TXT is an inexpensive feature-phone primarily designed for teens and heavy text message users. It strikes a great balance between affordability and usability with features like the ones listed below.”

off topic but can anyone tell me if WIFI CALLING uses my monthly minutes?

It says it does, but I heared someone saying , Tell this to tmobile and  WIFI calling will be free.

    thanks

    • Jamesmiles

you have to call and get it added to your plan and you cant be on a grandfathered rate plan like fave 5′s and all those old plans

      • http://twitter.com/KARMA773 Karma

oh they told me last time mine is old plan  cos it’s got no ADD A LINE FEE for my 4 other lines till end of this year. they wouldn’t give me the $10 200mb data and $20 unlimited data.

so on this one too, don’t think they would do this.

        • ivan

you might want to switch to new plans because the free add a lines is no longer a money saver compared to what is offered now. of course it has to be even more because you cannot switch to value plans

        • http://twitter.com/KARMA773 Karma

here is my plan and cost and tell me what other better plan suits me,

5 lines, 1500 whenever mins with free weekend, unlimited nights and tmo to tmo.
          that’s $80.

20$ for unlimited family texts. total $100 monthly

so thats the basic plan and costs without the data fees and other fees and taxes.

I have data on 3 lines, one  is 200mb for $15, other is preferedunlimited data for $20, got that after threatening to cancel cos they wanetd to charge me $30 for that line data.

3rd line is new and has unlimited  for $30.
VALUE PLAN IS GOOD BUT THEY WANT $1000 MIGRATION FEE.
WHAT OTHER PLANS IS BETTER AND CHEAPER?

        • http://ashn.myopenid.com/ Ash

Do you need the wifi calling for the mins or for the lack of coverage?
I don’t think you can do much better price from the plan you have.

U are always a full of crap, so don’t respond to my questions. thank you !

Wow, did you understand what my post was saying?
Trying to understand why you need the wifi calling, and trying to help.

But whatever man, I won’t respond to you any more, you’re welcome!

LOLOLOL. The target audience for this is effectively those who want a Sidekick 4G but can’t or won’t pay more. I can’t wait for feature phones to be dead..

I’d say it’s for parents who don’t want to spend any money to buy a good phone for their kids who are going to beat it up or lose it. That screen is smaller than a G4 so it’s less likely to crack.

Feature phones will not go away until you can get Edge data included for free in your plan.  We all know that is not going to happen, so… Unfortunately, get used to them.

  • Carmen Diva

I just had to comment because I will be 19 on August 24th!

HAHA absolutely nothing to do with this article so to stay on topic…

Ummm., if i was 11, I’d take a look at this and ask my parents for it. Nice looking phone.
And feature phones should NEVER die because there will always be a market for people
who want a phone but don’t want the extra of Android, IOS, BB, Webos, Wp7 etc.

Does anyone know if this has wifi calling? Also, will it require a data plan? might be good for my parents

    • Moveonrp

      @AShah

My thoughts exactly. My Mom has an aging Nokia 7510 with UMA, which is starting to show its age. She wants to be able to text but needs the wifi calling for both reception and extra minutes. She does not want or need a smart phone, and needs “simple” buttons to dial calls. This would be perfect for her if UMA is included.

Definitely doubt it will have wifi let alone wifi calling. This is a feature phone. Also, its unlikely that one would need a data plan. Considering the size of that screen, and the feature phone specs its likely to have, you probably wouldn’t be able to do much on it if it did have a data plan.

      • Moveonrp

Between 2006 and 2009 TMobile released a slew of “feature” phones with wifi calling…most of which were more basic than this Gravity TXT…my mother’s Nokia 7510 was the last of the breed, released in early 2009. Is it wishful thinking to think that there will ever be another feature phone with wifi calling? Without wifi calling, my mother will eat up here anytime minutes in like 2 or 3 days.

        • Jethro

Wait, I thought that WiFi calling still counted against your minutes?

  • Asder24

TMobile needs to make one feature phone that adults would use…I’m not asking for a lineup (calm down people who think T-Mobile should only carry the Hercules and similarly spec’d phones) but just one phone along the lines of the HTC Freestyle. While it’s a small number, there are people who don’t want data but would also like a phone that doesn’t look like a toy (Gravity T, DLite…yuck).

    • None

I believe you can get a freestyle shipped from the UK in GSM.  I think it is called the “smart” if I am not mistaken.  I was thinking about it for my zoo phone.  Not using internet or data so I dont care about the bands, but not sure about what kind of bloat and stuff would be on a phone from overseas?  Anyone know?

    • None

Completely agree with you though… All I want for my zoo phone is something EXACTLY like the freestyle but with out all the AT&T stuff.

    • None

      Samsung Highlight came somewhat close!

    • Asder24

A Highlight sequel would’ve been great! You know what would’ve killed as a feature phone? The Astound. I actually have it w/ a data plan and Symbian is fine since I’m a pretty light/basic web user. However I can see why people who need more from their smartphones dislike it. The build quality is phenomenal, call quality is excellent, and Symbian works best as a tweener OS (above feature phone but below Android/iOS). Even if you crippled its features it’d still be way ahead of the Gravity T. They discontinued it after 3-4 months which kind of sucks.

      • Magenta

The LG Sentio was the replacement to the highlight, but they killed that phone after 3 months

no touch screen? really? what kid wants a texting phone with no touch screen?

    • Joe112

You’ll be surprise that there are still people that dont want a touch screen phone.

      • http://www.facebook.com/ElectroHop Jay Alford

One of my friends are scared to get one because he thinks they break easily. I’m like..well if your clusmy careless nut then yes, it will break.

I’m totally upgrading to this from the Gravity 3…. Calm down people, its by backup phone. My primary phone is a G2x.
The reason why I say I’m upgrading is because I’m a heavy texter and sometimes the dumb phones have a better texting experience than an Android phone. Messaging phones do one thing and one thing really well..TEXT/MESSAGE. The only thing that pissed me off with the Gravity 3 was the omission of Threaded messaging. But since the Gravity TXT is gonna have it, I’m totally getting it!.
I’m that kind of guy who once in a while will switch back to a dumb phone.. But thats just me!

The only thing I miss about feature phones is the durability. Granted my G2X is durable, but some feature phones you can literally slam to the ground and it wouldn’t harm a thing!

In the smartphones quest for more power and greater thinness, its made for a series of phones that have more and more vulnerable vital components (iPhone included)

i Have the mytouch 4g and i beat the hell out of it as i work in the field.  The phone has a front lip at the bottom that will NOT let the scrn touch the ground or any surface when it falls flat on its front side.  Absolutely love it as i went through 5 diff g1′s and 3 mytouch 3g’s for dropping and shattering the screen.  The mytouch 4g is great for that reason….

  • mo4sho

it says 4 row, but does that mean 4 row like the sidekick with the numbers on the top row and the letters starting on the next row, or does that mean like on the g2x with a giant spacebar on the last row and the top row having numbers and letters?
