Gingerbread Is Coming To The Nexus One In The “Coming Weeks”

One of the joys of owning a Nexus device these days, either the Nexus S or the original Nexus One, is the knowledge that you’ll be among the first for Android updates. Nexus One owners who have been looking at Nexus S users with jealousy over their Gingerbread device won’t have to wait much longer according to the above Tweet from the @googlenexus official account.  So “hang tight”, relax and enjoy the holidays and in the coming weeks you’ll be graced with Gingerbread and all the joy it offers.

I’m gonna take a S#!% in “the coming hours”… that is the STUPIDEST time frame and I’m tired of hearing it. Does it even mean before 4 weeks is up or could it also be applied to “within the coming 52 weeks”?

  • Daffysci

Any fellow vibrant owners out there? we get no love, can’t even get froyo? smh..

    • vibrant owner

i agree man. that’s why im going to try to get a nexus s as soon as i can. It has almost all the same stuff that the vibrant has (besides 720p HD recording and microSD slot), and it has more than the vibrant too.

    • Anonymous

Real talk man you need to go over to XDA and ROOT and ROM that Vibrant of yours. I got 2.2 on mine and it runs awsome with no instabilities whatsoever. F!@k Tmobile AND Samsung with their slow to non-existant updates.

    • Petey

I know right, no more Sammy phones for me.

    • Goodbye Samsung

Samsung sucks. The iPhone is so much better. Too much fragmentation in the Android market will lead to its downfall. App developers have to develop to different screen sizes and OS. This will eventually kill the Android experience. I have an android phone, specifically the Samsung Vibrant and will be getting rid of it soon in exchange for a BB or iPhone. Android sucks and Samsung sucks even more.

Root. lol. Don’t get the iPhone. My sister has one and the antenna issues are real. Everytime she calls me it’s like 3 phone calls cause she drops twice just from holding the phone. Not to mention she’s tied to AT&T with bad insurace.

Root now. This phone is freaking amazing with the Roms out there now. The community has done a much better job than Samsung could and I wouldn’t be surprised if Gingerbread wasn’t out before the official Froyo Rom hits your phone.

makes me glad i decided to buy a Nexus One the other day.

In the coming weeks……….I have heard this before. and before and before. and before. Freaking PROVE IT already – I am sick of hearing about this BS already – freaking do it or shut up already!!!! The coming weeks could me 20 years from today. Google is playing on facebook instead of working!!

I WANT IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT PART OF NOW DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND

    • Anonymous

LOL I feel your pain but Gingersnaps just came out last week. The Nxs1 got FroYo a whole lot faster than the Vibrant got… wait the Vibrant STILL hasn’t gotten 2.2.

    • LSxChevelle

You have issues… Why do you think your old device should receive an update the same week it was launched? You will have the 2nd phone running 2.3 and G2 owners will be 3rd. What is in 2.3 that you need so soon?

Anyone complaining about their Nexus 1 not being updated sooner should take a pill. It is still going to be the second device (after the NS) to get updates, and you cant figure its going to happen the same week or two that Gingerbread (or future updates) comes out.

In this day and age, the fact that the N1 is still relevant is amazing and you should be thankful for that. Its not going to go away any time soon, either…its just second for official updates now insead of first.

  • Droid

Of topic….. I just bought the Nexus S. Its a sweet phone but not liking some of the things it can’t do. How do you erase or delete the search history? Its so annoying even in the market search. Thanks

    • Anonymous

Download AndroidMarketEraser from the Market. So how is the video chatting on your NxsS?

      • Fish

Qik and Tango currently don’t “know” how to utilize the ffc. At least Tango is aware of the issue and will begin working on it as soon as they get a nexus s. Qik didn’t give me the option to video chat.

If anyone knows any apps that can already use the ffc then you should totally link that beast!

        • Droid

Are you having any problems with your NxS? Mine gets way too hot and battery is shitty

        • Fish

no problems like that…a friend of mine had a galaxy case on his and it got hot…

i was playing a game for a while and the screen got quite warm…

i played pandora and did some browsing to websites (wasn’t browsing the whole time, maybe for about 30-40 mins), battery was at 50% after 5 hours

        • Fish

scratch that…my phone reboots now and then…the reboot is fast and i normally only notice it when there are only a couple of apps to choose from when i hold the home key…i’ve caught it 2 times red handed….it hasn’t done it when i’ve been actively using the phone except for 1 time while streaming pandora

i don’t know why it does that

        • Droid

Damn bro. I have no rebooting problems… yet. I hope not. So far so good with this device… except the whole mms and battery issue
Would you happen to know if theG2 has any of these issues? If not, I may just return this for a G2

        • Fish

just got an update for Tango that apparently fixes the FFC issue.

Your G2 updates will be handled by HTC, they are better at updating their phones than the other companies, but I want immediate satisfaction!

The reboots are not a reason yet to get a replacement. I hardly even notice them. However, your battery issue could be due to just a faulty battery…you can register the phone and get support directly from samsung apparently though. I might try that.

my screen gets hot when its plugged in and i’m using it. The screen is gonna get hot.

Tango works with my Vibrant FFC

      • Droid

Haven’t tried the FCC yet. Still trying to figure out my phone. A little different coming from a Symbian phone. The things I’m having problems already are the mms pictures and battery. When I receive pics, they’re small like a thumbnail. Its annoying. I can’t zoom in either. The battery sucks ass man. I charged it and in 3 hrs it was dead. Not too happy with that. Another thing is the phone gets too damn hot. The phone is sexy tho but that’s not gonna be enough to keep it. Thank god Best Buy gave me a full month to try it out. And those who we’re
e wondering about the GPS…. itworks well.

  • Tyrone M Jackson

Sure it will. Just as Android 2.2 has, according to T-Mobile, been coming the the myTouch 3G Slide “soon” for 7 months.

    • Mr Johnsexydavis911

i know seriously, i’ve given up and just rooted and installed it myself. There’s 2 roms (froyo) that in my opinion is the best. Cm6.1.1 which is vanilla and then 3rd sense.50 which is sense froyo. The only thing not working is javascript for 3rd sense. Both are awesome and i get 1150 best for quadrant with 3rd sense and 1094 for cm6. you should check it out

  • Admjson

*****Ya you guys should be thankful if you have a Nexus 1 I have a Vibrant and have **2.1** laggy, freezes, pictures dont load sometimes

    • Alexnguyen018

if you are dreading being stuck on 2.1 as much as you are and are hating life because Samsung isn’t sending out 2.2, do something about it instead of complaining. It doesn’t take that much and isn’t that hard to go to xda-developers.com to learn how to root your phone and install a 2.2 ROM. if you’re not gonna do anything about it, don’t complain =]

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GRIFVUHCR7SCF2J4ACDIVSVGJM Hilton T.Y

Second that Alex. Which one do you use. I went with Nero.

    • swehes

I want to second Alex’s comment. Running Froyo and I have not problems at all on my Vibrant. Check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771111 for all information on the Vibrant. :)

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GRIFVUHCR7SCF2J4ACDIVSVGJM Hilton T.Y

Yeah, you should root man. I did last week and now my Vibrant is the best phone I’ve ever had. Lightning fast, GPS works faster and the battery life is way better. Thinking about doing the FFC mod since I have no desire to buy another phone anytime soon now.

      • Anonymous

Do the mod ONLY IF you are willing to have horizontal RGB lines show up in pictures and video shot with the rear cam. The pictures still look HQ but the lines make the pictures bad enough to where you wouldn’t wanna show them to people or print them out. The problem is that the phone is only set up to output the required 0.1 volts to the single camera but the dual cams require 0.2 volts. I did the mod on my phone. Sorry if you already knew this stuff but I figured I’d warn you.

Running Gingerbread on my Nexus One as I type this. Aren’t most N1 use rs rooted anyway, as it’s a hacker’s toy? There are a couple excellent, fully-working GB builds over at XDA already. Love open source.

      • Droid

Do you know what might be wrong with my mms pics? Thanks

        • Sarcastic Tmonews Reader

It might be a tmobile issue. They aren’t recognizing your phone’s model so they’re defaulting to the settings for a cheap dumb phone and automatically compressing your mms images. Call them and have them sync you the network settings for a nexus s and you should be able to get back to sexting in no time at all! Hope that helps.

Hint. Anytime you get a new Android phone it’s gonna kill the battery at first as it syncs all your Google stuff in the background. That’s why the phone is hot. It’s doing a lot of file transferring. When it finishes, you’ll notice Gingerbread is pretty good on battery life.

      • Droid

Thanks for the heads up. I’m gonna see how it does today.

Root. Then wait for someone to make a ROM. I have a flavor of Froyo with some of the Gingerbread things added to it (notifications bar, keyboard, etc).

        • Sarcastic Tmonews Reader

          after 2.3

    • Anonymous

“In the coming weeks”. No there really is no telling anymore when we will get it. Samsung is having problems with the Intercept as well as the (Canadian) Vibrant 2.2 update when explains some of why its taking so long. But the good thing is that you can get it right now if you want it and it is BETTER than whatever will officially be released.

sad that nexus one is getting gingerbread, but the 3g slide can’t even get froyo. I’m jumping to a G2 once the price drops I had it.

    • Dave Kolmer

I remember T-Mobile announcing that the MT3G Slide would get a Froyo update “very soon” after its release in June, and later another announcement saying all the MyTouch line phones would be updated to 2.2 by the end of 2010. Still no word and it’s a little disappointing.

  • Jtfinn

Since we still can’t get Froyo for the Samsung Vibrant (after the rest of the world appears to have it), maybe the Vibrant can get Gingerbread also? Ha Ha – probably not before Christmas NEXT year (2012 will be too late since the world is ending on Dec. 12).
