T-Mobile Galaxy S8 and S8+ getting Android Pie update, Galaxy S8 Active also being updated

Following last month’s Android Pie update for the Galaxy S9 and S9+, it’s now time for Galaxy S8 and S8+ owners to sink their teeth into Pie.

T-Mobile is now updating its Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ to Android 9 Pie. Galaxy S8 owners should be on the lookout for a 1659.60MB update to version G950USQU5DSC1, while Galaxy S8+ owners are receiving a 1604.53MB update to version G955USQU5DSC1.

This update includes Android Pie and Samsung’s new One UI. Included in One UI are new features like a night mode and tweaks to move interactive elements closer to the bottom of the screen so that they’re easier to reach, which should make one-handed use easier. The update also includes the March 1, 2019 Android security patches.

T-Mobile is now pushing the Galaxy S8 and S8+ Pie updates over the air, and TmoNews readers Joanna and Pyu have already gotten their updates. If you’ve got an S8 or S8+ and haven’t yet gotten a piece of Pie, you can check for your update by going into Settings > Software update > Download updates manually.

Also getting an update today is the T-Mobile version of the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active. Unfortunately, the update isn’t Android Pie, but it does include the March 1, 2019 Android security patches. The 134.60MB update bumps the Galaxy S8 Active to version G892USQS4BSC3 and is now rolling out, as TmoNews reader Sam already got the update. You can check for it by selecting Settings > Software Update > Download updates manually on your phone.

Once you’ve updated your Galaxy S8, S8+, or S8 Active, be sure to share your first impressions of the update with us!

Thanks, Joanna, Pyu, and Sam!
