T-Mobile reportedly signing naming rights deal for Seattle Mariners’ Safeco Field

T-Mobile put its name in lights when it opened T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas two years ago, and now a new rumor claims that T-Mo may soon have its name on another major venue.

T-Mobile will become the new naming rights partner of the Seattle Mariners beginning in 2019, according to a report from Forbes. The deal isn’t yet finalized because the lease for the ballpark needs to be renewed first, but it’s expected that the naming rights will happen shortly thereafter.

Details of the deal are still pretty light, but it’s rumored that the rights will cost $3 million annually.

The Mariners’ ballpark is currently known as Safeco Field, named after Safeco Insurance which has had naming rights since 1998. It was announced in 2017 that Safeco wouldn’t be extending their naming rights deal past 2018, though, so it’s been expected that some other company would have its name on the Mariners’ ballpark in 2019.

While still unofficial, becoming the new naming rights partner for the Seattle Mariners would be a big advertising deal for T-Mobile. Plus, with its headquarters in neighboring Bellevue, signing a naming rights deal with the Mariners would see T-Mo supporting its local team. When asked about the deal, T-Mobile said, “We’re always looking for ways to show our hometown love but we don’t have any news to share at this time.”
