T-Mobile suspends Preferred Wi-Fi Network Trial again

T-Mobile launched its Preferred Wi-Fi Network Trial in two markets — Orlando and Tampa, Fla. — back in August as a way to save a user’s data and battery life by automatically connecting them to Bright House Networks Wi-Fi hotspots while they were out and about. The trial was paused and then resumed on October 14, and now it’s been halted again.

T-Mobile’s support page for the Preferred Wi-Fi Network Trial shows that the trial was suspended on December 10. The page says that it’ll be updated again when the trial resumes, but there’s no word on exactly when that might happen, with T-Mobile only telling FierceWireless that “Wi-Fi remains an important part of T-Mobile’s strategy and we will continue to deliver unique Wi-Fi connectivity experiences to our customers.”

Just like when T-Mobile halted its Preferred Wi-Fi Network Trial earlier this year, it’s unclear exactly why it was put on hold on December 10. T-Mobile says that the trial is “about seeing what works, what can be improved, and how we can continue to work with ecosystem partners,” so perhaps it’s putting the trial on pause to make some tweaks before starting it back up again. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what T-Mo’s next move is.
