Ice Cream Sandwich Update To Roll Out “A Couple Of Weeks” After Galaxy Nexus Release

On the heels of reports that Google would bring Ice Cream Sandwich to the Nexus S and likely to other Android 2.3 devices comes a rough timeframe for when we can expect the first rollouts to begin. Nexus S owners are likely to see the update first as a straight Google device as it won’t be subject to carrier or other manufacturer slowdowns.

Speaking at the AsiaD Conference, Google Android Chief Andy Rubin stated that Ice Cream Sandwich is on schedule to roll out “a couple of week after” the Galaxy Nexus arrives in the marketplace. That likely means the first non Galaxy Nexus devices could start seeing the ICS update hit before years end. Rubin wouldn’t specify which tablets or smartphones would receive the update or how fast but we’ll keep our fingers crossed that every current Android 2.3 device receives the update.
