MetroPCS CFO Doesn’t See An AT&T, T-Mobile Deal Happening Anymore

MetroPCS Communications Chief Financial Officer J. Braxton Carter expressed his belief today that AT&T’s attempt to buy T-Mobile is now very likely to fail. Carter spoke at the UBS AG event In New York and his words were notable as AT&T was once thought to be in talks with MetroPCS to buy some of T-Mobile’s divested spectrum. Carter further stated that attempts to save the deal is “almost kind of moot at this point given the intense opposition by the government” and that both companies need to move on to “Plan B.”

Recent rumors have pegged AT&T talking with Leap Wireless in the hopes they can find a partner to buy some assets as part of the T-Mobile transaction. With the comments from MetroPCS however, AT&T’s rumored and likely partnership opportunities seem to be dwindling fast.
