FCC a little more open to a Sprint, T-Mobile merger?

A report from the Wall Street Journal today states that some commissioners at the FCC aren’t totally against a deal between Sprint and T-Mobile. The deal would see the third and fourth most popular carriers in the States combine and create a much larger carrier, and one which could compete with Verizon and AT&T more effectively. As you’re all aware, in the past, Tom Wheeler Chairman of the FCC has expressed concerns over … [read full article]

T-Mo customers using 28 times more data internationally than before

Just 8 months ago T-Mobile pulled a fantastic Un-carrier phase out of its proverbial bag. By offering free roaming abroad, T-Mo got rid of one of the biggest restrictions on international travelers. And the data shows it’s working. This morning T-Mobile announced some key figures showing just how successful the international roaming phase has been. Deutsche Telekom wants $1 billion in compensation if proposed Sprint/T-Mobile merger falls through

AT&T failed terribly when it attempted to buy out Deutsche Telekom’s controlling share in T-Mobile US back in 2011. In fact, because of the way the deal was structured and clauses put in place, T-Mo received compensation of around $4 billion including $1 billion worth of wireless spectrum. So it’s no surprise to hear that if a bid from SoftBank was to finally materialise, and a Sprint/T-Mobile merger failed, Deutsche Telekom would want … [read full article]

T-Mobile sponsoring Stephen Colbert’s show: Best marketing ever?

When companies sponsor Stephen Colbert’s ‘The Colbert Report’, they don’t usually get what you’d traditionally class as an advertisement. In fact, his motto seems to be ‘as long as the company name is mentioned, I can do what I like.’ In an episode aired this week, he took the same approach to T-Mobile. Unlike most ads, promoting the company’s Un-carrier plans and super-fast LTE, Colbert focussed more in a T-Mobile phone’s laxative properties. … [read full article]

Dish Chairman ponders T-Mobile bid, if Sprint merger comes to nothing

Dish doesn’t “have the kind of money to go outbid Sprint for T-Mobile or outbid AT&T for DirecTV,” he … [read full article]

Deutsche Telekom chief expresses doubt over any merger approval

Yet another day in the world of T-Mobile, and yet another day with news of a possible T-Mobile merger in the U.S. Like many before him, Deustche Telekom’s CEO Tim Hoettges has realized the potential behind a merger with another carrier, but recognizes the struggles and legal barriers in place. On a conference discussing DT’s Q1 earnings, Hoettges remarked that he is open to creating a “super maverick” carrier in the U.S. In … [read full article]
