Oh, yes, it’s that time. It’s getting close to the eventual release of a device that bloggers everywhere let loose in their unboxing videos. Sadly, our own video is MIA, as we believe Motorola might have lost our address. Not to worry though, our good friend Noah from Phonedog has pieced together a lengthy (almost 17 minutes) of pure Cliq XT joy for you to feast on. Running through the specs and, of course, giving you a taste of that built in Swype keyboard, Noah breaks it down for you. Stop reading now and hit the video!
For the record, the Cliq XT is expected to release March 17th.
As we patiently wait for March 24th to come around, the folks over at PocketNow were nice enough to shoot up a video showing us exactly how Swype works on the HTC HD2. The HD2’s large 4.3 inch capacitive touch screen makes for an even better Swype experience. Watch the video above to see a demo of what you can expect in the T-Mobile HTC HD2, and, if rumors are to be believed, expect something even better!
“T-Mobile has always been on the forefront of introducing new devices and ground breaking technologies and now has embraced Swype’s stunningly responsive text input for its touch screen lineup,” said Mike McSherry, CEO, Swype. “Launching on the Android platform is a major milestone for Swype as we continue to expand to new touch screen devices and platforms.”
There you have it, official Swype launch on T-Mobile with the MyTouch 1.2 and HTC HD2 expected this Spring, aka March 24th.
Thanks to one of our oh so trusty tipsters, we now have exclusive pics of the upcoming myTouch 1.2 aka “myTouch with a 3.5mm jack”, although it looks exactly the same as the original myTouch 3G, with the exception of the 3.5mm jack. The device (like we told you) will be launching tomorrow Wednesday, February 10th. As stated before, the myTouch 1.2 will include a 3.5mm headphone jack, Swype right out of the box, an extra memory boost (256MB RAM) and the new myTouch will also come pre-installed with an 8GB microSD memory card. For $149.99 (with a 2 year contract) you can take home a brand spankin’ new myTouch 1.2. I say it’s well worth the price. Hit the jump for more pics! Anyone picking up one of these?
Apparently, Swype is all the rage these days and while I have yet to discover its usefulness for my own purposes, future MyTouch 1.2 buyers will be among the first Android owners to use it. The above shot comes to us through one of our ninjas who received via email this confirmation of its inclusion, among other non-essential and non-juicy information. If Swype is not your cup of tea, no worries, it’s not mine either but for some, the ability to draw words and letters is almost as fun as when fire was first discovered. Maybe, I don’t know, I wasn’t around when fire was discovered.
Now that we have a better idea as to when the highly anticipated HTC HD2 will debut, it looks like Magenta’s version of the HD2 just keeps getting better and better. First we get that extra memory boost (which hints toward a Windows Mobile 7 update in the future), and now it looks like the T-Mobile branded HD2 will have support for curing cancer Swype. Swype was created by the inventor of the T9 predictive typing system used on most phones today because he felt that new text input methods for small touchscreens are sorely needed. Swype provides a faster and easier way to input text on any screen. With one continuous finger or stylus motion across the screen keyboard, the technology enables users to input words faster and easier than other data input methods—at over 50 words per minute. Maybe this will get the few of you that won’t settle for any device without a physical keyboard, to purchase the HTC HD2? Especially since it’s being said that this version is “slightly more accurate and looks much more polished than the original.”
Remember back in early January, when we were the first to inform you about the myTouch 1.2 and its release date which our sources claimed to be February 10th? Now, thanks to one of our trusty tipsters, T-Mobile has confirmed the existence of the myTouch 1.2 via their internal systems. Additionally, T-Mobile also states the reason as to why the myTouch 3G (Black) and myTouch Fender LE were removed from the Care Upgrade Program. The inventory levels on the myTouch 3G (Black) were limited in order to prepare for the myTouch 3G “refresh”. And it looks like the Fender Editiondid sell out, because of the “high demand” and partly because of the limited quantity. The new myTouch 3G with 3.5mm headphone jack is scheduled to release February 10th (just like we told you), and it will replace the original myTouch 3G (Black and white models). T-Mobile states that there will be a “limited supply,” so it looks like T-Mobile isn’t expecting a whole lot of sales to come from the new myTouch 1.2, and quite frankly I don’t see this device selling out. So who is going to get one of these bad boys? Leave your thoughts in the comments!
UPDATE: According to our sources, the myTouch 1.2 will include 256MB Of RAM (same as the Fender LE), and Swype.
