Reminder: iOS 8.1 arriving for iPhone and iPad later today

If you have an iPhone or iPad on T-Mobile’s network, remember that a pretty major “dot” update is coming your way today. iOS 8.1 is expected to land within a few hours. Perhaps the biggest update in 8.1 is the availability of Apple Pay. From today, with the update, the new mobile payment service will be available to U.S. consumers, and a number of stores are supporting it at launch. The payment system uses … [read full article]

T-Mo Samsung Galaxy Note 4 gets minor software update

T-Mobile’s Galaxy Note 4 only officially launches today, but those who received their pre-orders earlier this week have already got their first software updates. And before you get too excited, no, it’s not Android 5.0. Instead, it’s a small (~65MB) update issued to fix some performance problems. Chief among those is battery performance. The carrier’s support site is yet to be updated with the new software details, but if you have a Galaxy … [read full article]

Android 4.4.4 KitKat update schedules leaked in Samsung roadmap

If there’s one negative about buying carrier-locked Android devices, it’s that you have to wait for a long time before you get your software updates. T-Mobile, historically, isn’t the fastest at getting the updates out and Samsung’s regular delays further exacerbate the situation. But, if a recently leaked software update roadmap is anything to go by, we could see one of T-Mobile’s handsets getting 4.4.4 at some point in the near future. Of … [read full article]

If you have an iPad or iPhone on T-Mobile, you’ll be able to upgrade to iOS 8 now (providing Apple’s servers can handle the load). Some of the biggest surprises in … [read full article]

T-Mo Galaxy S5 firmware update available

This morning, T-Mobile and Samsung rolled out an OTA update for the Galaxy S5. It’s not a major software update by any means, but it is a firmware update designed to boost performance and reliability. It’s still Android 4.4.2, but with baseband version G900TUVU1BNG4. Update details simply states “Improved performance” for the 87MB download. Pretty vague, and certainly a minor improvement. T-Mobile’s support page states simply that there are updates to “Audio and software stability”. … [read full article]
