With the Sidekick Outage debacle behind us, Microsoft/Danger is making sure the data loss “incident” doesn’t occur again. Reports are coming in that Sidekick LX 2009 users are receiving an Over-the-Air (OTA) Update today (OS 5.0/270115). According to Hiptop3, the OTA is a combination of bug fixes and the new Mobile Backup support T-Mobile announced a while back. The OTA should also rectify problems such as freezing and crashing, many Sidekick LX 2009 users incurred. The OTA might cause your Sidekick to hard reset, so there is no need to worry, since all your data should be backed up to Danger’s servers. After the update, Sidekick LX 2009 users can feel secure, since your address book will be backed up to T-Mobile’s servers as well! Some screenshots of Mobile Backup Support in action after the jump! Let us know if you’ve received the OTA and whether or not you’ve noticed any other significant changes in the comments!

Some good news for Sidekick fans out there (the few that are left)! T-Mobile has finally resumed the selling of its Sidekick handsets. Now that T-Mobile seems to have most of the user data recovered, they are looking to put the past behind them and start off fresh, and that includes lower prices! The Sidekick LX 2009 is now available for a $149.99 with a 2-year commitment price tag, and the Sidekick 2008 will run for $49.99 with a 2-year commitment. So if you’ve been itching for a Sidekick device, now’s your chance! T-Mobile statement below:
“T-Mobile is pleased to announce that Sidekick sales have resumed. New pricing for the Sidekick LX 2009 will be $149.99 with a two-year contract and the Sidekick 2008 will be $49.99 with a two-year contract.”

Well Sidekick users are bound to rejoice in the most recent follow up to the 2009 Sidekick Debacle. As it stands right now, Microsoft is stating that they have recovered most, if not all, user data. “We are pleased to report that we have recovered most, if not all, customer data for those Sidekick customers whose data was affected by the recent outage. We plan to begin restoring users’ personal data as soon as possible, starting with personal contacts, after we have validated the data and our restoration plan. We will then continue to work around the clock to restore data to all affected users, including calendar, notes, tasks, photographs and high scores, as quickly as possible.” Well, that is a terrific resolution to a problem that was just days to becoming lost beyond repair, though it may be too little too late for the Sidekick line. The mainstream media–down to the blogosphere–has trashed the reputation of the line and users who otherwise might have sworn by their Sidekick device are almost sure to look at alternative devices. While this outage may have been a fluke, sabotage or someone falling asleep at the proverbial wheel, it is just another reason to show that cloud computing is not fully ready for prime time.
I hope that I am wrong, Sidekick users flock back to their otherwise prized devices, and we see a resurgence of the line in the wake of this entire experience. Otherwise, T-Mobile has to shoulder the blame for a problem they had little to do with.
The entire press statement follows the break.

Sidekick users have yet another reason to rejoice this morning and T-mobile continues to open up the catalogue of goodies. Introducing Facebook and Twitter to Sidekick (2008), Sidekick LX (Tony Hawk included) and to the Sidekick slide. Interestingly enough the Facebook application is free while Twitter will charge a recurring $1.99 monthly fee. Not sure, what that is about as the Sidekick catalogue appears to be the only Twitter application looking for monthly charges rather than a onetime download charge. Regardless, you can pick up the applications today!
Side note: Facebook and Twitter continue to be available at no charge for Sidekick LX (2009) users. Guess older Sidekick fans are getting the short of the end stick this time around.

Many of you out there are probably wondering – like we all have been – when we might be able to expect some of the goodies we’ve been hearing about lately that are coming to T-Mobile. Thanks to a trusted tipster, we’ve got some serious information here regarding phone release dates through summer. Tentative and subject to change? Sure, and it should probably go without saying that dates can change for any number of reasons, but as of now these dates are correct. So, without further ado, let’s get to the release dates, shall we? We’ll go ahead and list the known phones with codenames first. They’re right after the break…

So this week marks CTIA, the wireless trade show that previews future happenings of the American wireless industry.
Phonearena did a preview of what to expect for all the carriers and while we aren’t expecting any surprises, we do hope for confirmation on a few devices. First off, the
Sidekick 2009, a device we’ve already had some CTIA thoughts about courtesy of
Noah from Phonedog. The sidekick line hasn’t seen a whole lot of love in recent months and an overhaul would be a most welcome change to a T-mobile staple device.
Next, we’re talking G2/Magic/Dream/Sapphire, quite possibly the most anticipated T-mobile device in recent months. Having recently
passed the FCC, and causing quite the stir,
the rumor mill continues to churn out hope for a CTIA release. We’re not banking money on this one, but we’re pulling for an announcement. Personally, I’d like to see this announced over any of the other possibles we can hope to hear from T-mobile or its manufacturer partners this week.
Next up, the TouchPro2, a phone more than a few of you have been asking about ever
since a screen shot of possible T-mobile USA software popped up last week.
Twitter and my inbox have been out of control with questions regarding the possible launch of this for T-mobile. Desparate to replace your outdated wings, more than a few of you are definitely looking for a possible announcement of this device in T-mobile magenta markings.
Well those are, courtesy of the guys from Phonearena, the 3 devices we most hope to see from T-mobile this week. The real question is, what else do you guys want to see? Sound off in the comments!

Noah from Phonedog is at it again, this time he is piecing together information regarding the possible launch of the Sidekick 2009 at CTIA in April and the alien landing at Roswell. Before we bring you the details of his little connect the dots game, we should give a little more detail on the *3.2 megapixel camera* direct from the boys at hiptop3 who are all over the details on this upcoming qwerty bad boy.
- It will take photos up to a resolution of 2038 x 1536, meaning 3.2 megapixels.
- There’s a flash, so those grainy shot-in-the-dark photos will be possible.
- There is a new auto-focus feature, so you shouldn’t have to use the jewelry loupe/magnifying glass trick to get up close shots of things.
- Video recording sounds like it’s set to 15 frames per second for now. But might be possible for 30fps.
- You will be able to upload directly to MySpace, Photobucket, and YouTube
- It will support geotagging

Ok, on with the Noah from Phonedog theory!
T-mobile has officially begun hyping up a series of Concerts beginning in San Francisco celebrating the 2009 Grammy awards. What device sponsors this concert series, you guessed it…the T-mobile sidekick. Sidekick 2009 rumors have been heating up for the last month and with CTIA, the biggest mobile event in the US starting just two weeks before the concert series kickoff its handily a perfect time to launch and hype a trademark device.
So Noah, is connecting the dots, putting forth the belief that there is little chance that T-mobile would sponsor a concert series with last years models sidekicks. The only viable explanation is that sometime in that time-frame, we can expect to see a brand new sidekick. So Noah is asking to get your “hype suits” on, say a little prayer, do a little dance and hope that we will actually see the unveiling of a new sidekick in the beginning of April.
What do you guys think? Sound off!
