Here is yet another entry level Samsung handset rumored to be heading T-Mobile’s way. T-Mobile and Samsung must have some kind of partnership going on between them because not to long ago it was known that T-Mobile would be launching the T139 and T669 in the near future, and now the T479 is also rumored to hit the shelves soon. The Samsung T479 will include very basic features such as SMS/MMS capablility, Bluetooth, a 2-megapixel camera, and a QWERTY keyboard. The T479 is rumored to be a Quad-Band phone, so you can unlock it (Don’t forget to take advantage of T-Mobile’s new Unlock policy) and use it on any GSM carrier worldwide!
Here’s more upcoming T-Mobile handset news. Sadly these aren’t smartphones, but nonetheless, there still are other people in this world that just want to use the phone for basic needs, such as, texting, calling, and a little bit of web surfing. The Samsung T669 and T139 are rumored to be heading Magenta’s way pretty soon. Intense text messaging fiends, get your fingers ready! The Samsung T669 is a basic QWERTY handset that includes Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, IM, and T-Mobile myFaves. It will also include the Dophin browser for web surfing and this baby also supports T-Mobile’s 3G network. The Samsung T139 which is expected to launch on February 3rd is an ordinary flip phone that’s aimed towards those of you on a budget. It too is an entry level phone and has the basic features such as SMS/MMS capability and a VGA camera. So who’s going to be first in line for this one? Any takers?
It sure is shaping up to be an exciting holiday season, especially for Android. While we wait for the Cliq, you can feast your eyes on the Samsung Galaxy Lite (in a new color scheme and everything). This Samsung Android phone is looking pretty good and I’m digging the accents. The listed specs are as follows:
3.0″ WQVGA TFT Touchscreen
3.2 megapixel camera
Android OS 1.5
Google Apps and Android Market
Bluetooth 2.0,
USB 2.0
WiFi
3G – HSDPA
Edge – GPRS
Touchwiz
Accelerometer
3.5mm audio jack
Memory 200MB internal and MicroSD card (up to 32G)
GPS
The specs say Touchwiz, but the pictures show vanilla Android; however, I have it on good word that this will have a variant of Touchwiz (which should be more like Sense, or Blur than Touchwiz) and will be blessing T-Mobile in the future. Head past the break for another picture and don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments!
I’m not even really sure where to begin with this story, other than to say yesterday saw quite a bit of back and forth regarding who will actually manufacturer the rumored G1 V.2. Reports yesterday actually pegged Motorola as the device manufacturer, marking their first entry into the Android marketplace. Turns out, that wasn’t exactly true. The next guess in the G1 V.2 round robin game last night was that Samsung remains top prediction for manufacturing this device as it appears to be super duper similar to the Samsung “Bigfoot,” found in the leaked T-mobile Android roadmap. Confused yet? So is everyone else. To quickly recap, what we first thought was almost certainly an HTC device turns out not to be, then we think it might actually be from Motorola and that turns out to be false, now we realize it might have been Samsung all along but of course, nobody really knows anything.Â
Why do you think is going to make this phone? Is it even real? Sound off below!
Update: Androidguys is reporting that the G1 V.2 is still an HTC device, and is merely a cosmetic, physical redesign based on the obvious design flaws in the current model G1. The obvious point being made is why would a redesign of a handset be made by anyone other than the original manufacturer which begs the question, how the hell did this whole Samsung, Motorola, HTC mess get started in the first place???
A recent bloggers event held in Korea apparently had a Samsung surprise in store with a hands on look at their first Android phone, the Samsung I7500. For those of who haven’t heard of this phone or didn’t click the blue highlighted link in the last sentence, this phone is T-mobile newsworthy because it has, drum roll please, the ever important 1700mhz 3G band!! The software seen in this video still isn’t finalized but if HTC devices don’t quite make you sing, better give this video a good once over as we do hope to see this device land on US shores later this year.Â
Well this is the exact kind of news that brightens up the day for me when I blog! Cole Brodman, T-mobile USA CTO recently spoke to Om Malik at his blog GigaOM and had this to say about Android and T-mobile: “We are looking to launch multiple Android-based devices in the second half of this year with three partners.” Ok, that sounds good to me, anyone else have a complaint about multiple manufacturers producing Android equipment?! Didn’t think so. We can take a pretty good guess at at least two of the partners, the obvious being HTC MyTouch and Samsung, with the third possibly, in the guess of this writer, Huawei, having heard rumblings/rumors of their desire to bring Android to the United States. Aside from all the phone talk, Brodman continued to hint at Android coming to Netbooks, going so far as saying he has even seen demo versions of devices running the Android platform. Hmmmmm, interesting!!
After a short getaway over the weekend I’m back and ready for some news! Looks as though I missed a lot going on, but there are just a few things to catch up on that slipped through the cracks in my absence.Â
Most notable is a recent New York Times report stating that Android will be coming soon to a theatre near you. Well not quite that dramatic but they are reporting that T-mobile is going to make an active push to move Android past the mobile device arena and straight into your home. We’re talking home phones and tablet computers and smart money is that’s just for starters. Obviously T-mobile isn’t confirming the reports other than to say that T-mobile has several plans for Android devices. Via Engadget
Next news comes our way via Blackberry and the guys at BoyGenius. Codenamed “Driftwood” it appears as the hopes and prayers of T-mobile fans everywhere for 3G Blackberry goodness appear to be answered. With specs such as Wi-Fi (UMA) we can expect though BGR wasn’t able to offer full confirmation that this device will make its way to the big magenta later this year. This could easily become one of the most anticipated devices for T-mobile users everywhere, as I am sure many would jump at the opportunity for a 3G Blackberry.Â
Last but surely not least for this week is again related to Samsung and their Android device line. Well, Â Samsung confirmed to Forbes that two devices will indeed make it to the US later this year, with Sprint and T-mobile to receive two different devices per carrier demands. Via Crunchgear
Thats a quick roundup on stuff that got lost in the fold while I was gone! Enjoy!
I’m sure you all remember that blurrycam shot of a Samsung Android device that we published not too long ago. Â Well, the guys over at Engadget have heard word from Samsung VPÂ Dr. Won-Pyo Hong that not only is it going to be here sometime this year, but it’s slated to ship out earlier than expected and will be out sometime in June! Â This is also not the only Android phone that they have in development, and not all of them will be going to the same service provider due to avoid some kind of confusion.
The next bit of Android goodness is that those users who have a need to both view and edit Microsoft Office (pretty much all versions) files will now be able to do so through the recent release of Data Viz Documents To Go. Â I do believe that users have had the ability to view these files for awhile, but now they can at least make changes if they need to do so. Â While you’re purchasing Documents To Go (for a special introductory low low price of $19.99) you might also be interested in picking up the free beta of Data Viz RoadSync – which will provide you direct push email and contacts support through Exchange Server 2003 and 2007.
