Here is some news that will definitely excite those of you running an outdated version of the Android OS on your handset. The guys over at AndroidandMe are reporting that ALL U.S Android handsets will get an update to Android 2.1. But there’s a catch! Processor speeds will prevent all of them from receiving every single feature that is present on the Nexus One, such as live wallpapers. Nonetheless, the handset will have the Android 2.1 firmware.
Additionally, select Android phones will require a wipe when they are upgraded to Android 2.1, and some will have to do a PC install for the upgrade. U.S carriers and Android handset manufacturers are currently working out the details of the 2.1 upgrade and deciding whether or not to send out the update via an OTA or make users upgrade using a PC. If the update were to be installed from a PC, there would most likely be an application included to backup all the content on your Android handset. AndroidandMe also claims that all of this is set to take place in Q2 (April/May/June) of this year with the G1 and the myTouch the initial two first-gen handsets to get Android 2.1. Until we have further confirmation, this is going under the rumors column for now!

Just as I was preparing this story, @T-Mobile_USA went and spoiled the fun stating that the Behold 2 would be getting some updates soon. Sorry, just maintenance updates! The update should start rolling out between February 18th and February 25th. Customers purchasing the phone on February 26th or beyond should receive the update sometime after purchase, as it will be pushed weekly to new buyers.
Thankfully, our ninjas went to work and got us some info earlier this morning regarding this and here is what we have so far:
Known issues solved:
- Bluetooth error: Unable to Pair or Unable to connect device
- Battery indicator may display more charge than the phone has
- Holding menu opens keypad, but does not respond, now goes to contacts
- Phone constantly vibrates
- Memory card un-mounts and re-mounts intermittently
- Music plays automatically when accessing the music player
- Incoming emails do not show the return email address
- Corporate emails stop syncing
New additions:
- Evernote application added
- Where’s Waldo game added
- Midnight Bowl 2 game added
- Music Player auto-play upon launch corrected
- “About” phone menu added to Settings, Quick List>Settings>About Phone
- Boot screen animation change (now Samsung logo)
- Delay reduction for proximity sensor while on a call
- Battery icon status in notification bar now matches screen lock battery status

We know the Samsung Behold 2 isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but at $79.99 it might be a little more attractive. The sale runs from the 12th to the 15th. As we noted at the beginning of the week all Samsung Behold 2 accessories are 50% off through that same timeframe. Not a bad deal, but we recommend giving the phone a little trial run in store to see if it meets your wildest Android fantasies!

Look, I do not think it is any real surprise that the Samsung Behold 2 was not exactly the wild seller. I cannot recall ever actually seeing anyone using it, at least not publicly. When shown against other T-Mobile Android options, the only real differentiator is the AMOLED screen. To some buyers that is not reason enough to purchase one, no matter how times the price drops. That being said, nothing says “buy me” like a $70 price drop as the Behold 2 will enjoy this coming weekend, February 12th-15th. Of course, if you are looking for a Valentine for that special someone, nothing says “I love you” like an Android phone. Seriously, someone tell my girlfriend that. Adding on to this deal is 50% off all Samsung Behold 2 accessories during the same February 12th-15th timeframe. There is no limit on the purchase quantity here, so if you were looking for multiple Valentine’s gifts, say for multiple dates, nothing says “I love you” like a silicon phone case. Hi, I’m Nicole aka @c0z, the Associate Editor of AndroidGuys. I’ve also been the Copy Editor of Tmonews for a while now, but that’s all behind the scenes stuff. I finally decided to post something, I hope you don’t hate it!

Oh T-Mobile, you have so many loyal fans. This site alone is an attestation to that fact, for sure. However, there is one area in which your followers are very disappointed with your performance: the acquisition of new, awesome Android devices. Surely you have noticed that the Android community is expanding at an unremittingly fast rate, and hopefully you realize that many of your customers want options when it comes to smartphones. How about rounding up a whole new collection of those snazzy new Android devices for your oogly-eyed customer base? As mentioned in an earlier article, geek interest is paramount to your success!
I personally love my T-Mobile service but I must admit that the limitations of RAM on a stock G1 can be quite cumbersome (especially to anyone who loves to play with apps and isn’t advanced enough to use root access (not me!)). And that’s the point of having an Android device, right? To play with apps? When the myTouch 3G came along I was happy to welcome it (aside from it lacking a QWERTY, one of my personal requirements), but even that campaign is starting to grow a bit jaded. At least the mT3G’s physical form was a step in the right direction. The introduction of the Cliq is still something I’m trying to forget, and I’d have to say that the Behold II gets bundled with those same sentiments. After hearing the Xperia X10 might be going to another carrier, I started losing hope for T-Mobile’s ability to acquire the next big Android device. However, it looks like hope is making its way back to the horizon with the rumor of the Google Phone/Nexus One coming to T-Mobile. While that is definitely progress and will whet the appetites of the geeks,let’s not stop there, okay? T-Mobile, how about you make your New Year’s resolution to provide more top-end Android devices to your loyal fans? We’re counting on you…

Congratulations go out to Behold22, one of the winners of the Samsung Behold 2 contest and one of our forum regulars. What originally was a too good to be true contest through Samsung with hourly winners had quickly turned into speculation regarding its authenticity. Well question no more as the winners have started receiving their devices along with a lovely letter that points out the need for being a T-Mobile customer to use this device. I wonder how many people entered only to learn that they had to be with T-Mobile?!

The list of phones these days that actually gets me into a frenzy remains remarkably short considering my nerd-like excitement over new devices. That being said, the Samsung Behold 2 was on the short list of phones I was really looking forward to getting for a hands-on evaluation and, thanks to the fine folks at Samsung, TmoNews has its very first review device.

Maybe the Android packing, Touchwiz touting Behold 2’s price tag just wasn’t doing it for you, even if your mouth was watering over all the Android and Samsung goodness. Well, now you have a shot at winning one for that oh so special price of free. Samsung is running a promotion to giveaway a Behold 2 every hour, on the hour, until December 23rd, and a LED TV every day. Sounds like a sweet deal to me, and all it will cost is a moment of your time, and maybe an email or two. If my math is correct, they have a total of 840 Behold 2s for the whole promotion (and 36 TVs). So why don’t you head on over and try to snatch yourself up a holiday gift!

Today, T-Mobile has officially released the Samsung Behold II. T-Mobile’s third Android enabled phone this year, is just in time for the holidays! Featuring a nice vibrant AMOLED 3.2 inch touch screen, Samsung’s TouchWiz interface, a 528MHz processor, 200MB internal memory, and 320MB of RAM. Although we were expecting a $199.99 2-year commitment price tag, it looks as if T-Mobile had a last minute change of mind on the pricing. The Behold 2 is available for $229.99 with a 2-year contract, and will include a nice 2GB microSD card, a carrying case, and all the other standard junk helpful stuff that comes inside the box.
