Here is some news that will definitely excite those of you running an outdated version of the Android OS on your handset. The guys over at AndroidandMe are reporting that ALL U.S Android handsets will get an update to Android 2.1. But there’s a catch! Processor speeds will prevent all of them from receiving every single feature that is present on the Nexus One, such as live wallpapers. Nonetheless, the handset will have the Android 2.1 firmware.
Additionally, select Android phones will require a wipe when they are upgraded to Android 2.1, and some will have to do a PC install for the upgrade. U.S carriers and Android handset manufacturers are currently working out the details of the 2.1 upgrade and deciding whether or not to send out the update via an OTA or make users upgrade using a PC. If the update were to be installed from a PC, there would most likely be an application included to backup all the content on your Android handset. AndroidandMe also claims that all of this is set to take place in Q2 (April/May/June) of this year with the G1 and the myTouch the initial two first-gen handsets to get Android 2.1. Until we have further confirmation, this is going under the rumors column for now!

According to one of BGR’s “solid Palm connects”, T-Mobile is in the “final stages” of planning out their webOS device launch with Palm. BGR’s tipster also claims that Magenta’s first webOS handset will be similar to the Palm Pixi. Its about time Palm! Until we have further confirmation, we’re going to place this one under the rumors column. But seriously, after playing around with the Palm Pre, webOS is pretty slick and I’m definitely diggin’ the card system.

Here we go again… Rumor has it that Apple will be ending AT&T exclusivity soon. According to some rumors “soon” is considered Wednesday January 27th, or tomorrow. Bloomberg is reporting that T-Mobile USA will get the iPhone this summer, followed by Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel Corp. in the fall, and Clearwire Corp. in 2011, Horan wrote in a note yesterday. As you probably already know, AT&T has had a tight grip on the iPhone exclusivity since June of 2007, when the iPhone first debuted. Even though there is absolutely no confirmation of this, it could very well be possible. There has been a lot of rumors regarding a Verizon Wireless iPhone (or iTablet), but would Apple really make a brand new iPhone (because of Verizon’s CDMA network [Andrew - Let me add that there is a chip out there that does cover CDMA and GSM frequencies and Apple could add it to future iDevices]) just so they could sell it on one network in the US? On the other hand, Apple does what is wants, and anything is possible. Both Apple and T-Mobile declined to comment on the matter. Although our beloved Magenta has claimed in the past that it’s network is ready to take on the iPhone.

Warning: This article may cause Sidekick fans to cry, beg, kick and show other signs of emotional distress.
According to BoyGenius, the myTouch Slide will end all Sidekick sales. The new tipster informed BGR that the upcoming T-Mobile myTouch Slide, will cause Magenta to slowly phase out all Sidekick sales. It is still unclear what this means. Is T-Mobile getting rid of the Sidekick line permanently? As you probably already know, the Sidekick device has become very popular with the deaf community, and by discontinuing the Sidekick device T-Mobile could lose a good amount of loyal subscribers. Of course keeping in mind that we don’t experience another one of those massive Sidekick Outages. Until we have further confirmation, please take this as a grain of salt.
What do you guys think, should T-Mobile get rid of the Sidekick line? Would anyone actually miss it?

Well looks like the folks over at BGR have received a little something from a new tipster. The screenshot seems to be of the HTC Supersonic and guess which carrier its running on with Android 3.0? Yup that’s right, the big “T”. Well sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that screenshot is most likely Photoshopped. Even though we would all like to believe that this is the real deal, the screenshot displays a few factors that shows it may not be the real deal. First of all, all you Android lovers can tell, that the status bar on top is from CyanogenMod (because of the rounded edges). Secondly, the HTC Supersonic was known as a WiMax device, and as far as we know T-Mobile isn’t ready for WiMax just yet, or are they?(Dun dun dun). Lastly, the handset model number in the screenshot is listed as the “HTC Supersonic.” The Nexus One model number appears as “Nexus One,” not “HTC Nexus One.” Same goes for the Motorola Droid. It’s just “Droid,” not “Motorola Droid.” Also 3.0 already? Just doesn’t make sense.

Looks like T-Mobile still has a few more surprises in store for us. According to the guys over at WMPowerUser, “reliable sources” have claimed that T-Mobile and AT&T are supposedly getting the HTC Obsession in the form of the HTC Diamond3 with its 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, 1Ghz processor, 4GB of onboard memory, and HD video-capable 5-megapixel camera. WMPowerUser also reports that the HTC Obsession (Diamond3) will not come with Windows Mobile 6.5, in fact the smartphone will ship with Windows Mobile 7 and is expected for a June 2010 release.
But here is the kicker. T-Mobile USA has already officially confirmed that they will be the exclusive carrier for the HTC HD2 in the U.S, slated for release this Spring of 2010. The HTC HD2 is also rumored to receive the Windows Mobile 7 update when its available. Will T-Mobile carry both of these high-end smartphones? We sure hope so!

Good afternoon TmoNews minions readers! There has been a lot going on in Magenta’s world in the past few weeks, and it looks like the news just keeps on coming. Yesterday we received quite a few emails from our sources stating that a new Android device was in the works, codenamed the MyTouch Slide/MyTouch 2. Our sources pegged the device for a May 17th release. Today another one of our trusty ninjas has hit us up claiming that T-Mobile has more up its sleeve. T-Mobile is rumored to be releasing another Motorola Android device (Sholes Tablet?) on March 10th. Our source also claims that on March 17th, T-Mobile will be releasing a Nokia Smartphone (N900 anyone?). Sony Ericsson lovers if the original Equinox color didn’t appeal to you, you can pick up the Equinox January 20th in the shade of Ocean Blue. Our sources are also stating that the Samsung T139 will be hitting the shelves February 3rd. Hooray! First in line for this one!
As always all these dates are super tentative and subject to change.
Stay tuned and leave your thoughts and hopes in the comments!
