T-Mobile 2G upgrade to 4G network seemingly well underway

When T-Mobile announced earlier this year that it would be upgrading its 2G network to 4G, it’s fair to say our attention was grabbed. T-Mobile’s reputation of having great, fast coverage in major cities and having poor coverage elsewhere has been a big hindrance to many people joining the carrier. But times – as the famous song goes – are a-changing. Over the past couple of weeks we’ve been informed by a good … [read full article]

T-Mobile HD Voice tested, compared with AT&T standard call [sound clips]

For years we’ve been making phone calls with sub-quality audio. We’ve done so, because it’s the only option we’ve had. Arguably, some phones have had better clarity than others due to stronger reception, or a better earpiece. But, a key change had to be made, and it’s happening now. HD Voice is the next generation cellular call quality, and by all accounts, it really does make a difference. As noted by PC Mag:[read full article]

What that means is that instead of your device dropping to an older network technology to connect your calls, it’ll instead use the LTE network. Which is pretty fantastic news, especially considering the areas currently being refarmed from EDGE to LTE, and the fact that T-Mo is going to be killing off its 2G network over the next … [read full article]

RootMetrics: T-Mo LTE scores joint 1st place with AT&T and Verizon in Las Vegas

I know, I know, John Legere and T-Mobile don’t like referencing RootMetrics results. Calling them out for being out of date and not based on real user testing. Still, they can give a decent portrayal of the network quality offered by the US’ top carriers. This time out, it’s showing T-Mo in a favorable light. In its most recent test in Las Vegas, T-Mobile’s RootScore matched the big two: 1 – Verizon (95.4) 1 … [read full article]

Fastest Mobile Networks 2014 is happening, get testing your T-Mo phones with Sensorly

Every carrier likes to claim that it has the best network around. And John Legere likes to point out that most claims are based on old, paid-for “independent” testing, and that in real life use, T-Mobile has the fastest LTE network. Data from Ookla’s SpeedTest.net would suggest that Magenta users have it good, and it’s only going to get better. But now’s your chance to contribute to an official survey to find out … [read full article]
