One of our trusty ninjas dropped this little goody in our inbox.  T-Mobile has compiled a nice little chart comparing some of the top U.S smartphones to the HTC HD2.  There’s really not much explaining needed as the image speaks for itself.  As you patiently wait for the day you can finally hold this beautiful Snapdragon-powered Windows Mobile handset, perhaps this chart can help you decide if the HD2 is worthy enough.  Larger image after the jump!

Here is some news that will definitely excite those of you running an outdated version of the Android OS on your handset.  The guys over at AndroidandMe are reporting that ALL U.S Android handsets will get an update to Android 2.1.  But there’s a catch!  Processor speeds will prevent all of them from receiving every single feature that is present on the Nexus One, such as live wallpapers.  Nonetheless, the handset will have the Android 2.1 firmware.

Additionally, select Android phones will require a wipe when they are upgraded to Android 2.1, and some will have to do a PC install for the upgrade.  U.S carriers and Android handset manufacturers are currently working out the details of the 2.1 upgrade and deciding whether or not to send out the update via an OTA or make users upgrade using a PC.  If the update were to be installed from a PC, there would most likely be an application included to backup all the content on your Android handset.  AndroidandMe also claims  that all of this is set to take place in Q2 (April/May/June) of this year with the G1 and the myTouch the initial two first-gen handsets to get Android 2.1.  Until we have further confirmation, this is going under the rumors column for now!

While updates are always welcome, unfortunately this is not the update that MyTouch 3G owners have been patiently waiting for. Android 1.6 update DMD64 OTA goes out tonight and merely “improves MyTouch user’s call performance.” No additional features are available here so it’s fairly minor but hey, improving call quality never hurts right? For the record, those picking up the MyTouch 1.2 later today will already have this update preinstalled so no need to wait patiently for this one.

Receive the update notification, install now or install later. Device reboots and boom, improved call quality. Get it, got it, good.

Apparently, Swype is all the rage these days and while I have yet to discover its usefulness for my own purposes, future MyTouch 1.2 buyers will be among the first Android owners to use it. The above shot comes to us through one of our ninjas who received via email this confirmation of its inclusion, among other non-essential and non-juicy information. If Swype is not your cup of tea, no worries, it’s not mine either but for some, the ability to draw words and letters is almost as fun as when fire was first discovered. Maybe, I don’t know, I wasn’t around when fire was discovered.

Looks like T-Mobile is preparing for the MyTouch 1.2 launch, which means it is time to get rid of the original MyTouch stock. Starting Wednesday February 10th, T-Mobile will be offering the original MyTouch 3G “1.0″ for $99.99, a $50 savings! New customers and eligible existing customers alike will be able to snag a MyTouch 3G for $99.99 with a 2 year agreement. If you have been thinking about getting into the Android game, and do not care for a 3.5mm jack, Swype, and increased memory, the MyTouch 3G for a $100 bucks is a swell deal!

Remember back in early January, when we were the first to inform you about the myTouch 1.2 and its release date which our sources claimed to be February 10th? Now, thanks to one of our trusty tipsters, T-Mobile has confirmed the existence of the myTouch 1.2 via their internal systems. Additionally, T-Mobile also states the reason as to why the myTouch 3G (Black) and myTouch Fender LE were removed from the Care Upgrade Program. The inventory levels on the myTouch 3G (Black) were limited in order to prepare for the myTouch 3G “refresh”. And it looks like the Fender Edition did sell out, because of the “high demand” and partly because of the limited quantity. The new myTouch 3G with 3.5mm headphone jack is scheduled to release February 10th (just like we told you), and it will replace the original myTouch 3G (Black and white models). T-Mobile states that there will be a “limited supply,” so it looks like T-Mobile isn’t expecting a whole lot of sales to come from the new myTouch 1.2, and quite frankly I don’t see this device selling out. Well it’s not like the MyTouch 1.2 is going to come as any surprise to people but the clock is running down on the current MyTouch3G line. As the accessories start rolling in, the phones can’t be far behind. All signs point to a February 10th date and as the Black MyTouch3G suddenly appears sold out; things are looking up for those who have been waiting for a MyTouch with a 3.5 mm headset jack. Any day now!

One of our sources hit us up today with the image above. Apparently, the MyTouch Fender Limited Edition will no longer be available for existing customers that want to upgrade to the handset. Additionally, the original MyTouch 3G in the shade of black, will no longer be available for upgrade either. Our sources are claiming that the reason for the Fender LE removal is because the handset is out of stock in the warehouse. Did the MyTouch 3G Fender really sell out that quickly? I’m not a big fan of Eric Clapton, but the Fender Edition definitely looks sick! Also could the removal of these handsets have something to do with the upcoming MyTouch 1.2, slated for a February 10th release?

This is kind of a good news, bad news (well, mediocre) post.  Good News: anyone with a MyTouch should be getting an over the air update.  Bad News: this isn’t Android 2.1, or even 2.1.  Instead, this update is to make sure that you get a nice little notification for missed calls.  Not a huge update, but important nonetheless.  If you are getting this update, or just have some thoughts on the matter, sound off in the comments!

One of our ninjas just hit us up with some bad news for those of you that purchased a Fender myTouch 3G. T-Mobile will not, I repeat, will not offer returns on the myTouch LE Fender. According to T-Mobile the myTouch 3G LE Fender is not eligible for returns even during the Buyer’s Remorse Period. Apparently all Limited Edition handsets cannot be returned. So that means, one you purchase it, you’re stuck with it, that is unless you throw it up for sale on eBay where you might have a slight chance of getting rid of it.
