Give Your T-Mobile HTC Touch Pro 2 A New Life With Android

11mar10htc0o2b35-1

As someone who has used Windows Mobile for quite some time, I know first hand that it can grow quite mundane.  If this has happened to any of you out there, thankfully, now we have a solution-Android!  It seems those crazy kids over at XDAndroid have been working on a project to port Android to Windows Mobile devices and now their latest build is proving to be a huge success. Demonstrated on a HTC Touch Pro 2, the Android installation experiences no difficulty in making calls, sending SMS, downloading apps, or browsing the web.  In fact, pretty much everything works besides GPS, Bluetooth, and the camera.  Impressive!

After reading about this yesterday, I set out to try it myself on an old HTC Touch Pro 2 I had.   Surprisingly, the hack proved to be pretty easy.  If you’re tech savy and into roms, I really suggest trying it yourself.  You can find the directions here! As always, flash with caution so  you don’t brick your device.

Snapdragon Showdown

Let’s be honest, the most coveted phone processor out there (right now) is the Snapdragon processor.  It is advancing smartphones past their cell phone cousins and putting them closer to netbooks.  Currently, you can get your hands on this beautiful piece of silicon if you get yourself a Nexus One.  If you are in to waiting, then you know the HTC HD2 also features this very same processor and it will soon grace us with its presence.  With these two monsters humming along with a snapdragon processor, and running on T-Mobile’s 3G, we will have the choice of two of the most powerful and advanced cell phones in the world.  This may make a decision between the two extremely difficult.  Step in the PhoneDog/DroidDog crew to put together one of their Dog Fights of these super phones.  [I'll warn you though, John Walton (the guy who is lucky enough to spend time with both simultaneously) is a die hard Android fan].  Personally, I could go either way, but I am saving my opinion until after Microsoft shows off Windows Mobile 7.  With that, go forth and watch the gorgeous hardware that HTC has manufactured.  Part two after the break and don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments!

There are three devices that will qualify for this offer: the T-Mobile Shadow, HTC Touch Pro2, and the T-Mobile Dash 3G. Both new customers and existing customers can take advantage and the offer is quite simple with no surprising strings attached. HTC Obsession Coming To T-Mobile In The Form Of The Diamond3?

htcquietlybrilliantlogo1

Looks like T-Mobile still has a few more surprises in store for us. According to the guys over at WMPowerUser, “reliable sources” have claimed that T-Mobile and AT&T are supposedly getting the HTC Obsession in the form of the HTC Diamond3 with its 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, 1Ghz processor, 4GB of onboard memory, and HD video-capable 5-megapixel camera. WMPowerUser also reports that the HTC Obsession (Diamond3) will not come with Windows Mobile 6.5, in fact the smartphone will ship with Windows Mobile 7 and is expected for a June 2010 release.

But here is the kicker. T-Mobile USA has already officially confirmed that they will be the exclusive carrier for the HTC HD2 in the U.S, slated for release this Spring of 2010. The HTC HD2 is also rumored to receive the Windows Mobile 7 update when its available. Will T-Mobile carry both of these high-end smartphones? We sure hope so!

Leave your thoughts and hopes in the comments!

T-Mobile To Carry 8 HTC Handsets This Year

htc LOGO

Update: As we think more about this, we have to wonder how valid the count of 8 handsets are and if thats really already including the other 3. We’re not counting the TouchPro2 and the Dash3G. I think we’d be better off just saying that HTC will likely bring more handsets to T-Mobile through 2010. Considering they have only brought Android and Windows Mobile to T-Mobile up to this point, its safe to consider that that pattern will remain constant.

According to guys at BoyGenius, T-Mobile USA is partnering with HTC for “over” 8 HTC handsets in 2010. Of course, that includes the currently available HTC products: MyTouch3G original and upcoming Fender Edition, HTC HD2 and then 5 more devices. This is all unconfirmed of course but BoyGenius considers this source to be pretty solid. According to the article, the remaining handsets are split amongst Android and Windows Mobile. Frankly, lets place Android on the HTC HD2 and sell both an Android and the Windows Mobile version and you’ll please a lot of people.

I think it will come as no surprise that T-Mobile is partnering with HTC for more handsets as they seem to be leading the T-Mobile pack on the high end front. Of course, we’re looking to finding out exactly what handsets we can expect and we’ll bring it to you when we do!

As we mark off the days on our calendars of the expected January 5th 2010, 9AM, release date, which our sources claim that ordering will be available through Google ONLY, enjoy a  nice video review courtesy of one lucky guy at PointGPhone, who managed to get his paws on the Nexus One. Most of the content in the video is already known, but its nice to see a video review with decent quality. Another video with a few snaptshots of the Nexus One after the break! T-Mobile “Officially” Confirms Google Phone

streamline

Update: Our sources are confirming  a January 5th date, 9am, ordering through Google ONLY. Sadly, still no word on pricing.

T-Mobile has gone and made their expected support of the Google Phone aka Nexus One “official” this morning, albeit in a vague sort of way. According to our sources, through an internal system T-Mobile is reporting they are getting an Android device but won’t do any support for it other than “billing, coverage, features and rate plans, as we have previously stated. All troubleshooting and exchanges will be managed by Google and HTC. Launch is ‘early January.’” That’s all we’re hearing right now but we’re reaching out to sources across the board looking to find out more. Hopefully we’ll have some pictures here in a few minutes!

Right now we are hearing January 5th still, early in the morning but we can’t say if thats T-Mobile, Google or both. Hopefully with this new confirmed information, leaks will get a little more “leakable” regarding launch dates, pricing etc…

Leaked HTC Roadmap NOT For T-Mobile USA

funny-pictures-horror-movie-cat-dark-scary

As my inbox continues to fill up with the HTC leaked roadmap, I have tried to address the notion that none of these phones are shown to be available for T-Mobile USA. For that matter, no US carrier is shown to be a possible recipient of these phones and why? A cursory glance at the spec sheet shows no compatible US 3G bands, not for T-Mobile or any other carrier that has 3G offerings stateside. So while the phones themselves might have “T-Mobile” typed over them, rest assured these phones are from a leaked Austrian HTC roadmap and most certainly, not a US one.

All that being said, it’s likely that one or more of these devices might show up in some capacity to a US carrier, T-Mobile included. Aside from that, we doubt the HTC 2010 Android lineup is comprised of only half a dozen phones, something tells me that they have much more in store. However, from these leaked slides we can’t make any predictions nor can we say anything for certain. So please, don’t read T-Mobile and get all excited, scroll down just a little more and take a glance at those spec sheets and try not to let all your excitement out at once.

T-mobile G1 V.2 Round Robin!

probably

I’m not even really sure where to begin with this story, other than to say yesterday saw quite a bit of back and forth regarding who will actually manufacturer the rumored G1 V.2. Reports yesterday actually pegged Motorola as the device manufacturer, marking their first entry into the Android marketplace. Turns out, that wasn’t exactly true. The next guess in the G1 V.2 round robin game last night was that Samsung remains top prediction for manufacturing this device as it appears to be super duper similar to the Samsung “Bigfoot,” found in the leaked T-mobile Android roadmap. Confused yet? So is everyone else. To quickly recap, what we first thought was almost certainly an HTC device turns out not to be, then we think it might actually be from Motorola and that turns out to be false, now we realize it might have been Samsung all along but of course, nobody really knows anything.

Why do you think is going to make this phone? Is it even real? Sound off below!

Update: Androidguys is reporting that the G1 V.2 is still an HTC device, and is merely a cosmetic, physical redesign based on the obvious design flaws in the current model G1. The obvious point being made is why would a redesign of a handset be made by anyone other than the original manufacturer which begs the question, how the hell did this whole Samsung, Motorola, HTC mess get started in the first place???
