If you may recall, earlier this month we were tipped by our sources that Magenta would be dropping the BlackBerry Curve 8520 in a “pink-like” color. Well, as it turns out, the color is actually fuchsia red (close enough). T-Mobile is scheduled to launch the Curve 8520 in the new fuchsia red color on May 19th. If you’re on a budget and are a true crackberry addict, mark your calendars for May 19th. Just a little sidenote, for those of you who aren’t sure about the new trackpad, it’s 10x better than a trackball. So who’s getting one? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

While today and for the near future will be fixated on Project Black, that doesn’t mean there aren’t other happenings in the T-Mobile world. With that in mind, T-Mobile launched the White Blackberry 8520 yesterday–the very same model as the current Black 8520, only in white. If you are looking to dip your feet into the Smartphone world without completely diving in, the Blackberry 8520 is a perfect place to start. Irrationally priced at $129.99 from T-Mobile online and in retail stores, the white 8520 can be had for a lot less if you live within a hop, skip or step of a Walmart.

While some of you are more excited about the Cliq than others, there seems to be a all sorts of numbers, dates and speculation regarding its release. While we have information that supports a pre-order date of October 19th, Boy Genius has information to the contrary. Their source tells them that the Cliq will be available in the early weeks of October (which lines up with the September 22nd pre-order date that Orange is offering). The slide they received as “proof” clearly shows November though. Not to fret, this is clearly an older slide since the Blackberry 8520 has already been released and the road map says October 5th. For the time being, it seems like all dates associated with the Cliq are up in the air. I want you to look at that slide again, though, and notice that TMO Huawei, which certainly looks like the Pulse that we have heard about before. Also notice that the Blackberry 9700, which we have seen in T-Mobile branding, is nowhere to be seen on this road map (once again, old slide, so don’t worry). If you are having trouble reading the road map, head past the break for a larger version. I’m interested in what you think, is Motorola trying to push the Cliq out as soon as possible or do they have some time to spare? Have any other opinions about this road map? Then leave your thoughts in the comments!

Boy Genius

Perhaps I just have an affinity for white phones as I feel white just looks sleeker and more streamlined. I know others will believe black offers the very same effect but hey, I’m writing this! While the retail release date seems to be missing, the Black 8520 dropped on the same day as Walmart so we’ll just hope for the same luck this time around. Of course, Walmart was also offering this introductory Blackberry at $48.88, a full $100 dollar less than corporate T-mobile stores. I’ve been meaning to ask how many Blackberry users became Blackberry users thanks to the introductory level pricing of this device. Any takers?
