Ever since Google announced Android 2.0 on the Motorola Droid, everyone has eagerly wanted a piece of the scrumptious Eclair, but the future wasn’t looking too good for faithful G1 owners. There were a few rumors stating Android 2.0 for the G1 was coming, but no release date was specified. But now, according to an internal T-Mobile Forum, a Moderator states that Android 2.0 for the G1 is rumored to make its way to G1 handsets by the end of January. Of course this should be taken as a grain of salt, and until there is further confirmation, this is going under rumors column for now. Leave your thoughts and hopes in the comments!
With only 11 days remaining until the expected release date of the much anticipated Samsung Behold 2, we all want to know what the specs are and most importantly what version of the Android OS will it ship with. Today, via T-Mobile Phones Blog, it looks like the Behold 2 will sadly ship out with the outdated Android OS 1.5. Enjoy the video above and if you haven’t already, check out the Samsung Behold 2 walk-through. Don’t forget to express your thoughts in the comments!
After watching the rooted G1 in action with Android 2.0 SDK you’re probably wondering where does that leave other T-Mobile Android handsets like the MyTouch 3G and Motorola Cliq? Well our friends over at AndroidandMe have got confirmation from T-Mobile PR as to which devices will be getting the Android 2.0 update. To summarize, T-Mobile has confirmed it is working with Google to release Android 2.0 software, and that T-Mobile has no announcement yet to update the Cliq to 2.0 and said it would be best to contact Motorola PR.
Here are the questions T-Mobile PR answered:
Will T-Mobile Android handsets get Android 2.0 update?
T-Mobile is coordinating with Google to deliver Android 2.0. We will let you know when we have more details to share.
Will the Cliq get Android 2.0 update?
The CLIQ ships with Android 1.5 software. We have no announcements at this time regarding new Android software updates. For more information about future updates to CLIQ and MOTOBLUR, it would be best to contact Motorola PR
As for the MyTouch3G (Google Experience phone) since it doesn’t have space limitations, MyTouch3G users should receive the update as soon as Google makes it available to T-Mobile. The G1 (Google Experience phone) has space limitations so not sure whether or not the G1 will get the 2.0 update, but not to worry there should be a solution for rooted users. In conclusion if Android 2.0 is delayed on handsets such as the G1 and MyTouch3G, Google is to be held accountable, NOT T-Mobile since those devices are Google Experience phones. Android users still rockin’ a T-Mobile G1 it looks like there’s hope! A lot of you have been frustrated that Google may not be updating the first Android device (G1) to the new and improved Android 2.0. Android 2.0 includes many new features such as the new Turn-By-Turn Google directions in their Google Map Application, confirmed to be preinstalled in the new 2.0 software. However, where does that leave current G1 owners? Well, looks like you may not miss all the fun after all. Referencing this video, some developer has managed to port Android 2.0 (Eclair) over to the G1. Before you start crying tears of joy, since the G1 doesn’t have the “power” to handle the 2.0 software, it is very sluggish and barely usable. However, note this is not the final build of Android 2.0, so do keep that in mind. Enjoy the video and don’t forget to share your thoughts/opinions with us in the comments!
