Band 12 support arrives for Samsung Galaxy Avant in latest software update

Starting today, T-Mobile is beginning the rollout of a software update which finally brings Band 12 support to the Samsung Galaxy Avant. Although it’s not an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop, it will enable those with the budget smartphone to access the carrier’s stronger, low-band network. T-Mobile could gain from AT&T’s Band 17 and Band 12 LTE network interoperating

According to a filing with the FCC, AT&T is progressing well with its promise to support band 12 and band 17 700MHz network interoperability. It’s working with smaller carriers – presumably T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular included – to prepare for this interoperability between the two flavors of 700MHz network. Band 12 LTE spotted in North East Maryland and Louisiana

T-Mobile’s 700MHz band 12 network is officially rolling out. And while the only locations to be announced by the carrier are Cleveland, Colorado Springs, Minneapolis and Washington there are still a number of other markets where customers have managed to get on to the lower frequency network. T-Mobile to acquire more 700MHz spectrum, in Alaska and Nevada

T-Mobile’s been on something of a mass spectrum hunt in recent weeks and months. Yet another FCC filing reveals plans to acquire more A-block airwaves from Triad 700MHz in Reno, Nevada and Anchorage, Alaska. If completed, it would see T-Mobile add another 2.43 million POPs to its potential A-block coverage. This week, it’s been revealed that T-Mobile is involved in several new transactions to acquire yet more 700MHz spectrum in a number of new markets. The updated map above shows the markets where it holds spectrum in magenta, with other proposed acquisitions marked in different colors.
