After T-Mobile introduced its new Even More plans, everyone was wondering why in the world T-Mobile had decided to get rid of their MyFaves plans which many, including myself, loved. If you aren’t already familiar with the MyFaves feature, it simply was unlimited calling to any 5 people (landline or mobile) who were labeled as your “Faves”. T-Mobile, in reply to FierceWireless, claimed that it’s “simply time to replace the feature”. T-Mobile states that they are not dropping support for customers already enrolled in the now “grandfathered” feature and will still continue to offer the MyFaves home screen on their mobile devices. Full statement from T-Mobile USA below:
Our new Even More plans, which feature options for unlimited calling, text and data service, have taken the place of our myFaves unlimited calling feature.” “We continue to offer the myFaves home screen, at no additional charge, across our broad portfolio of phones as a way for customers to easily connect with their Fave Five through voice, text and email. And customers currently subscribing to the myFaves unlimited calling feature can choose to continue to benefit from that plan.
Let’s have some thoughts from the peanut gallery. Do you guys think this was a wise decision on behalf of T-Mobile’s part? Would you rather the new Even More plans? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
FierceWireless
T-Mobile USA is quietly phasing out the use of its myFaves calling feature in the wake of the introduction of its new unlimited plans, the company said in a statement provided to
FierceWireless. While it is not dropping support for customers who already use the calling feature–which allows unlimited calling to any five numbers regardless of what network they are on–the carrier said it was simply time to replace the feature.

Its been a while since we’ve heard any updated info from T-Mobile regarding the Sidekick Outage. But it looks like T-Mobile has finally managed to recover all data that was lost for Sidekick users. Follow the easy steps after the break to recover your calendar, to-do list and notes! And don’t forget to let us know if this worked for you in the comments!

T-Mobile reported third quarter 2009 results this morning and the numbers are less than impressive. Let’s just get right to the chase and mention they reported that in the third quarter of 2009, total customers declined by 77,000, compared to net additions of 325,000 from the second quarter of 2009. Comparatively, the third quarter of 2008 was met by net customer additions of 670,000. The number of contract customers declined by 140,000 in the third quarter of 2009. The report claims the losses are due to an increase in the higher churn of contract customers, specifically from FlexPay customers. Contract customers compose 80% of the T-Mobile subscriber base, down from 81% in the previous quarter of 2009.
Churn was at 2.4% in the third quarter of 2009, up from 2.2% in the second quarter of 2009. T-mobile states that the reason for high churn was ” due in part to competitive intensity, including handset innovation, and the seasonal impact from the “back-to-school” window.”
That’s the bad news and really, it isn’t good. We’re T-Mobile cheerleaders around these parts but a net subscriber loss is a net subscriber loss, spinning that in a positive light is in a word, tough. With the introduction of the Even More and Even More Plus plans T-Mobile is gambling once again that lower rate plans are enough to attract the customers and frankly, they might succeed to some extent. To really make it happen though, to really get back in the game it’s going to take one thing, marketing. “It’s the marketing stupid” is a phrase that should be rife in Bellevue right about now. T-Mobile has what it takes to succeed, it just needs a better way of showcasing that it does, and current marketing isn’t cutting it. I love Catherine Zeta Jones but she hasn’t really been hot since Entrapment, so it’s time for a new spokesperson, a new ad campaign and a serious push toward serious business people. An unclogged, reliable, less expensive 3G network can make for a good case to business users and high dollar consumers so it’s time to give them the handsets to boot.
I hate to see negative numbers knowing the inevitable gloom and doom comments they will bring across the interwebs, never mind the certain comparisons to (shuddering)…Sprint. The fourth quarter is where it’s really at, where the Even More and Even More Plus plans really need to shine, we heard a big marketing campaign is coming and it had better be big, loud and with some chest pounding.
On that note, it’s time for some highlights:
- On August 13, 2009, T-Mobile USA achieved the highest ranking in a tie for the J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Wireless Customer Care Performance StudySM – Volume 2. Since 2004, T-Mobile USA has received the highest ranking, including two ties, in nine of the last 10 Customer Care Performance Studies conducted by J.D. Power and Associates.
- In August T-Mobile USA’s products and services started being offered in more than 4,000 RadioShack stores across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, almost doubling our national retail distribution network.
- On September 17, 2009, T-Mobile USA received the highest ranking among national wireless carriers in the J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Wireless Retail Sales Satisfaction StudySM – Volume 2. The award further reflects T-Mobile’s continued achievements for overall customer experiences, whether in-store, online or on the phone.
- On October 21, 2009, T-Mobile USA announced the fourth quarter of 2009 availability of the BlackBerry® Bold™ 9700 with Wi-Fi Calling from T-Mobile. It will be the first 3G-powered BlackBerry smartphone available through T-Mobile USA, adding to the holiday lineup of 3G converged devices such as the T-Mobile® myTouchTM and recently announced Samsung Behold®II. Additionally, on November 2, 2009, T-Mobile USA launched the national availability of the MotorolaTM CLIQTM. This is the first AndroidTM-powered device with MOTOBLURTM, a solution developed to manage and integrate communication sources together on the home screen.
- On October 25, 2009, T-Mobile USA unveiled its new ‘Even More’ and ‘Even More Plus’ rate plans. These plans respond to customers’ needs for affordable nationwide calling, texting, and data plans; while providing new ways to get new phones and data devices with equipment installment plans.

Okay by now I think we all are aware of the nationwide outage that occurred on Tuesday November 3rd. Today T-Mobile issued a new statement to the public as to what caused the nationwide outage. To summarize, T-Mobile investigated the cause behind the outage and claim that the culprit of the outage was “backend system software error had generated abnormal congestion on the network.” T-Mobile states that they have implemented additional measures to help prevent this from happening in the future and T-Mobile apologizes for the inconvenience this may have caused. Full statement from T-Mobile below:
On Tuesday, some T-Mobile customers may have experienced service disruptions impacting voice and messaging services. We restored full service to all affected customers later in the day. After investigating the cause, we have determined that a backend system software error had generated abnormal congestion on the network. T-Mobile has since implemented additional measures to help prevent this from happening in the future. We again apologize to those customers who were affected and may have been inconvenienced.

T-Mobile was hit hard lately with their nationwide service outage which started at around 5pm EST and varied in areas. Some included both voice and data, others included one or the other. But now T-Mobile confirms that they have fully restored all voice and data services and now are trying to find the culprit of the outage. T-Mobile sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience this may have caused. We have to realize this happens to everyone, and yes it has happened at least once to all 4 of the major carriers. Full statement from T-Mobile below. Feel free to express your thoughts in the comments!
T-Mobile confirms it has fully restored voice and text/picture messaging services for customers affected by intermittent service disruptions on Tuesday. About five percent of our customers across various geographies were affected for much of Tuesday evening, and by late Tuesday PST their service was restored. Our sole focus has been restoring full services for all customers; we are now investigating the root cause of the incident. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused our customers.
UPDATE: If you continue to experience difficulty making/receiving calls or accessing data services, please power your phone off then back on. This will update your connection to the network and should restore your access to these services.

UPDATE 1: As of 9:30pm est approximately only 5% of users are still experiencing a service disruption. The rapid response team which really equates to Catherine Zeta Jones flying from tower to tower is on the job.
UPDATE 2: Please do not overload T-Mobile customer care regarding this issue, they are swamped, overloaded and they have as much information as you do!! Give them a break!
Apparently, a nationwide voice outage is plaguing some users today. This outage seems to be limited to voice, and for some reason it is causing phones to not be recognized on a network while using T-Mobile’s UMA service. Let’s hope this gets resolved quickly and let’s be thankful that we all still have our data (is it too soon for that joke?). We will keep you updated as we learn more.
UPDATE: T-Mobile USA has confirmed that they are aware of the outage and have mobilized their rapid response teams to restore service as quickly as possible. Official statement from T-Mobile below:
T-Mobile customers may be experiencing service disruptions impacting voice and data. Our rapid response teams have been mobilized to restore service as quickly as possible. We will provide updates as more information is available.

Sunday is a big day in T-Mobileland, and while the company is trying to keep things from leaking, that is very hard to do in today’s world. What we have here is further, clearer and more detailed confirmation of the rate plans accompanying Project Dark. As it is, though, we are considering these rumors, so have your daily dose of salt. Of course, maybe T-Mobile is trying to keep people in the dark by printing out false information sheets (we have our doubts that any company would do this, but what a genius move to keep people in the dark (if that is what they are trying to do)). Either way, head on past the break for a full, and much easier to read, peak at the rate plans (including a family plan breakdown). Leave your thoughts in the comments!

I do not think it is going to shock anyone that T-mobile lost a number of customers due to the lack of a proper 3G network. Deutsche Telekom’s CFO Timotheus Hoettges says, “There is no question that we lost customers because many of our customers couldn’t get 3G. We now have to make sure that we can capitalize on the network in the top 10 cities where we have invested.” The really interesting statement from Hoettges is that there is no need for “further consolidation in the US”. This comes right at the time speculation is rampant over a possible merger with MetroPCS/Cricket/Budweiser/Sprint. Now the consolidation talk probably refers to a purchase/merger with one of the larger players, but it does not rule out gobbling up smaller, morelocalized competitors like MetroPCS. We hope that Deutsche Telekom continues to see T-mobile USA as a venture that has yet to realize its full potential and is willing to dedicate the time, money and resources to ensure that T-mobile capitalizes on the current wireless situation in the US. With Sprint fluctuating between alive and dead and AT&T and Verizon duking it out for first, it is a more than opportune time to strike with something that shakes things up. We wait to see if Project Black is indeed that strike.

The recent speculation for “Project Dark” has allowed T-Mobile to create an internet buzz not seen for them across the blogosphere since the days leading up to the G1 launch. We have stated, based on the writings of others that T-Mobile USA needs a win and soon, so Deutsche Telekom can rest a little easier at night. Rumors surrounding what “Project Dark” really is remain both secretive and mysterious. BoyGenius reports this afternoon that one of their “connects” has stated that they believe it is both a handset launch and a rapid network upgrade. Our sources have remained tight-lipped but have hinted toward a rate plan revamp worthy of taking the wireless world by storm. Which rumor is true? Nobody at this point knows and you should not take any of them as gospel, as nothing said has shown to be completely 100% factual.
We know new handsets are launching, T-Mobile has stated so much themselves. So why would such launches be so wildly secretive and mysterious? They would not be, not unless it was tied to something much more buzz worthy. To that end, we will continue to play the guessing game and wait for the inevitable leak. Until then, discuss away in the forums, the comments or at the water cooler. One thing is for sure, this hype had better not be for naught or the moans and groans of T-Mobile customers will be caught on the Richter scale.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard something REALLY BIG. Well the guys over at PhoneArena have received word from a tipster that T-Mobile is about to “shake up the status quo of the U.S. cellular industry”. T-Mobile employees are being trained tomorrow for “Project Black”. This mysterious but catchy sounding name is supposed to be something so BIG for T-Mobile USA, that it is expected to lift T-Mobile out of 4th place among the nation’s wireless operators (Take that Sprint). PhoneArena’s tipster has stated those involved in this have signed non-disclosure agreements, so this looks to be huge. Also, their tipster also claims that we should expect a 3G enabled BlackBerry (9700 anyone?) headed to T-Mobile by Christmas time. The tipster also bumped into an ex-Nokia Rep who revealed to him that there will be two Nokia N-Series smartphones headed for T-Mobile USA early next year, one of them being the N900 with Maemo5. She says to expect more high-end Nokia devices headed for Magenta in the future. It looks like T-Mobile subscribers just won the Lottery! Sound off in the comments!
PhoneArena
UPDATE: After doing a little digging around I’ve found some more interesting info. Our trusted ninja claims that there is something big brewing (not chicken soup) for the end of the month it seems. Bigger than a phone or a promotion plan. Everyone involved in it had to sign secondary non-disclosure agreements apparently. It is seemingly rolling out on October 25th because all field supporting positions are being required to work (its a Sunday) to support this mystery offering. Trainings will be the Friday before. T-Mobile USA is keeping this a super big secret so nobody knows what it is quite yet.
