Ready for 3G Galore??

Posted by David On April - 7 - 2009

dude

We’re holding this in the rumor column for now, as it appears to be a real screenshot sent our way but we’re still working toward 100% confirmation. We have, what appears to be a list of 3G cities going live this year for magenta. Its a pretty compiled list and is sure to please quite a few of you who are still oh so patiently waiting for the greenlight! While we want to reinforce the idea that we haven’t confirmed this list, it seems pretty legit and unless its a cruel joke from an AT&T fanboi who just wants to tease us, this should hopefully give those of you left waiting for 3G a better idea of what to expect this year. Did your city make the list??

T-mobile to expand 3G coverage for 2009

Posted by David On February - 17 - 2009

tmobile_logo_ovr_440-1147901359582-440_3301

While its certainly been a while without any 3G launches coming out of T-mobile, that doesn’t mean they aren’t forging ahead to bring coverage to your neck of the woods. The boys at engadgetmobile caught wind of a T-mobile report “shoehorned” in with the Samsung Memoir launch that outlines T-mobile’s plan to cover 200 million Americans by the end of 2009 with 3G coverage.

Considering T-mobile had “more than 100 million American’s” covered at the end of 2008 a 100% increase in 3G coverage is most welcome. As engadget points out however, “more” than 100 million could mean higher figures like 150 million American’s covered but either way, 200 million people covered sounds damn good to us. I just hope for those that are still clamoring, still waiting for that 3G logo to appear in the upper corners of their phone that this comes as great news, that some day soon you will experience the joys of 3G voice and data coverage.

Admittedly I know nothing about Birmingham, so no funny jokes or quips are forthcoming. However, on behalf of all of us at Tmonews I’d like to formally extend our congratulations for becoming a member of the elite 3G club, high speed services just rock.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Ahhh, I love the smell of 3G in the morning!

Denver

I don’t know about you, but I sure would love to wake up in the morning to a nice, big fresh dose of some T-Mobile 3G!  It looks like those of you in the Denver market are going to get just that!  The 3G network will go live for you lucky Denver customers tomorrow November 11.  Now, those of you in the Denver area who picked up the G1 or the Behold (or one of those other 3G phones that we seemed to have forgotten about these days!) will actually be able to use it to its potential.  Hopefully you guys will still be able to get a decent nights sleep after this, I don’t know if would be able to or not!

Detroit waking up to 3G?!

Detroit, Detroit, my neighbor to the North(east) it seems as though magenta has given you an early holiday gift and brought you 3G! With a dozen or so emails this morning from overjoyed G1 users, added with word out of this forum thread, T-mobile has gone and given Detroit residents a reason to smile today!

While T-mobile still has a way to go to catch up the national footprint of the big 3 players, every 3G city launch brings us closer and closer to the ultimate goal of total 3G domination. Well maybe not that dramatic, but you know it’s going to be fun pointing at 3G iPhone users, while they keep hitting redial and redial and redial.

So break out your G1’s, head on over to here, or here and report in the comments what kind of data speeds you are receiving.

Keep in mind dear readers, we have NO idea what geographic area the Detroit market makes up so when you ask in your comments if your city 130 miles a way has service, we don’t know!

Just in time for the G1 launch next week T-mobile is greenlighting Memphis and Tampa for 3G love. That’s official from T-mobile, though specific days were not mentioned in the report via Phonescoop. I know Tampa residents have been clamoring for a long time especially since late September when Orlando pointed and laughed. So congratulations Memphis and Tampa, welcome to the club.

Now for the unofficial 3G rumors that have come into our email boxes this week. Unofficially we are hearing that Denver will begin to see faster speeds on November 7th with a follow up in Detroit on the 15th. These days are still open to speculation but they have been tossed around so we’re sticking with them as general (hopeful) time frames.

So there have it, it’s ramping up to be an exciting end of the year for T-mobile with the launch next week and as they greenlight more and more markets for 3G love T-mobile is turning up the heat on a strong march into the holiday season.

Recapping some upcoming events:

  • October 22nd really needs no comment but if you just came back to Earth from space travel the G1 launches today.
  • November 3rd is the scheduled Motozine launch
  • November 10th is the scheduled Samsung Behold launch
  • November 17th is the scheduled Samsung Gravity launch

Update: ACCIDENTALLY wrote the 23rd on the first draft of this story and I published the story, obviously we all know the G1 launches on the 22nd! My bad!

San Francisco, welcome to 3G…

Wake up San Francisco! Its 3G day! That’s right San Fran you are today’s lucky winners of the T-mobile 3G launch contest. Today’s winners will receive high speed broadband services as well as improved voice quality and an opportunity to use that shiny G1 to the best of its ability. With this launch T-mobile is well on its way to achieving its stated goal of 27 cities by mid-October.

It’s early and I can’t really think of anything funny to write about San Francisco, except for the fact that this picture reminds of the end sequence in the “Full House” opening credits when they are having the picnic outside. I have the theme song in my head right now and its punishing, just absolutely awful.

We know about Chicago, CUBS CLINCH!! We just posted about LA launching today. The emmy awards were great last night, seriously. I’m kidding, 5 hosts?? Orlando, remember we told you the 25th was your special day.

Seattle, wake up Tuesday, come to our site and read all about Android and enjoy 3G following said Android drooling news. Atlanta, you need to wait just one more day, for Wednesday you too shall embrace what 3G loving from Magenta is all about.

PS, I found that picture on google images and I loved the cheesiness of it. I didn’t make it so don’t blame me for the handiwork. Whoever did make it, you have my thanks and the number for the art institute.

Thanks “gsm user!”
