HTC Device Passes FCC

Ah yes, the FCC, outing another phone and destroying all sorts of secrets.  The HTC PC10100, as it is referred to, passed today with 802.11n WiFi, AWS and HSPA+, which makes it almost a sure thing that it is T-Mobile bound.  Chances are, this is the G2 that we are all expecting (just another month or so!), but it could always be something else.  Enough teasing, let’s get to the real leaks please.  Leave your thoughts in the comments!

Do Trademark Filings Give Away Some T-Mobile Secrets?

We’re just going to piggyback off the most recent posts here and go for a trifecta on guessing just what T-Mobile has in store for us. Those fine folks at Androidguys did a little digging through recent US Trademark filings and came up with some interesting results:

Now, like them, we’re betting that the Blaze and G1 Blaze are one and the same.  The G1 Rocket and the Rocket could be a part of the aforementioned Blaze or the former could be and Rocket could be a grab at the webConnect Rocket.  Then we can come back to the G2 and, with our recent guesswork/source-based information, we’re now leaning, along with Androidandme, toward the notion that the HTC Vision will in fact be the T-Mobile G2 with Google.

As for the Jet, a T-Mobile webConnect card named the Jet shipped around September of last year so it’s possible a follow up is forthcoming, as the name remains poignant for HSPA+ services.  Let’s talk about the Cliq 2 for a moment and consider that Motorola and T-Mobile have two devices slated for the end of the year according to the leaked roadmap.  They have the codenames “Jordan” and “Begonia” and it’s very possible that one of these two devices is the Cliq 2.  That being said, I’d much rather hear news about an Android update to the current Cliq than a follow-up.  Just saying.

While most of the recent rumors are unconfirmed and without any sort of documented support, the combination of both TmoNews and Androidandme verifying the same rumor from separate sources along with the US Trademark news shows that things are definitely lining up nicely.

HTC Holding Sekret Event September 15th

So what do you know?  This morning I wake up and gleefully see that HTC has formally invited members of the media world to an event to be held September 15th. There is no indication that is related to a T-Mobile device launch but given the proximity to our supposed T-Mobile G2/HTC Vision/Vanguard launch date, we can’t help but get some hopes up!  We know what we want this to be but we can’t get past the thought that it might be related to something non-Android related, perhaps Windows Phone 7 and possibly for another carrier. Still, we can dream, can’t we?

So What Do I Think Project Emerald Is?

In the recent days, weeks and months, I have seen the name “Project Emerald” tossed around to almost every single smartphone that T-Mobile might get.  At this point, I have to say I’m a little frustrated with how frequently and how loosely it’s being used.  To that end, the name itself has almost lost its luster in my eyes because of the guessing game being played hoping to nail the story.  When we first got word of a “Project Emerald”, we were almost positive, or at least our source was positive, it was a Sidekick-like replacement, possibly with Android.  In recent days, we’ve seen it addressed as any number of upcoming T-Mobile phones and watched our comment section fill up with other, often far-reaching theories.  So what do we think Project Emerald is now?  Is it a device or a rocketship?

You’ll have to bear with us as it’s likely some of you will think our connection here is rather thin.  Rest assured I wouldn’t run this without doing at least a little fact checking of my own. We’re going with the idea that Project Emerald is simply the HTC Emerald aka the myTouch HD.  Why are we saying this?  Simple, the use of codenames.  The original myTouch3G was codenamed Sapphire, a precious gem.  The codename for the myTouch HD is “Emerald”.  While to some of you it’s thin, very thin, and you’ll doubt it right from the get go, according to our source the use of precious gems is no coincidence.  The Shubert, as far as Windows 7 Phones go, will be the HTC Mozart, classical composers.  Like I said, reaching.  So I know we’re stretching here and it’s always-possible information is delivered wrong, sources give bad information or things change internally but I tend to think we’re right.

So what do we know?

HTC Emerald = myTouch HD.

The HTC Vanguard/Vision will be named the T-Mobile G2 with Google according to one of our sources.  Another stated it would simply be called the T-Mobile G2. Apparently G1 Blaze is out and was just an internal codename.  It is our belief that judging by the roadmap that thus far has looked very accurate, the T-Mobile G2 will deliver itself sometime in the middle of September.  Of course, it’s odd that as of now we haven’t received much in the way of tips regarding it save for the few shaky images that have made their way to the interwebs.  Still, we’re still looking for a September 9th launch.

But, hey, we wouldn’t leave you without some information on the myTouch HD now, would we?  One of our sources apparently had some hands on time today and came back with one very important piece of information.  According to him, as the phone stands right now, there will be a Front Facing Camera.  The screen itself is bigger than the N1 and noticeably so but definitely not 4.3 inches.  The phone itself runs the same espresso sense as the myTouch Slide though we didn’t get word on what version of Android.

P.S.  That Sidekick theory that started all this Project Emerald mess?  Pushed back to 2011.

T-Mobile Ranked Highest In Retail Satisfaction

For the second time in two weeks T-Mobile has announced taking the top spot in a JD Power survey, this time for highest ranking in retail customer satisfaction. This is the third time T-Mobile has taken this award and I can certainly say that every time I jump into a T-Mobile store, the staff almost always impresses me. Congrats Magenta, now lets talk HSPA+ devices rolling out mmmkay?

“Our employees are responsible for creating and delivering an outstanding experience for every T-Mobile customer, from the first moment they walk into a T-Mobile store, and we’re proud that wireless customers have rated T-Mobile highest again for our service,” said Lisa LaFosse, senior vice president, retail sales, T-Mobile USA. “We are honored to receive the highest retail ranking for the third time in a row – it’s a demonstration of the professionalism of our retail sales team and our customer service partners. Most important, it reflects our continued success delivering an industry-leading service experience our customers and their families depend on.”

Today’s honor from J.D. Power and Associates is the latest accolade demonstrating that T-Mobile continues to set the standard for retail sales satisfaction in the wireless industry. In each of the dimensions for which the study measures customer satisfaction, T-Mobile scores above the wireless industry average. These dimensions include sales staff, price/promotion, store facility and store display. The following results are indicative both of T-Mobile employees’ commitment to customer satisfaction at retail locations, and of the value customers receive at those locations.

Wait…Project Emerald Is BOTH The G1 Blaze And myTouch HD?

Here we go again. According to a new report from the guys over at Phandroid, a reliable source tells them the fabled Project Emerald is apparently a “dual-launch of the HTC Vision as the G1 Blaze, and the HTC Desire HD as the myTouch 3G HD”. Their source also tells them that the both handsets will release in the month of September as a “secret launch”, with one of the handsets launching on September 22nd, and the other on September 29th. I don’t know about you, but this “Project Emerald” codename seems to be getting tossed around a lot lately, often being associated with almost every rumored T-Mobile Android handset that surfaces. We’re working on confirming this with our own sources, but until then take this with a grain a salt.

HTC Glacier=Project Emerald?

According to some recently uncovered GLBenchmark Pro 1.1 charts,  results show a new handset dubbed the HTC Glacier, which is rumored is be T-Mobile’s infamous Project Emerald. The benchmark results which are very impressive, show that this HTC Glacier handset definitely packs a huge punch and according to AlienBabelTech, who found the entry, believe the handset houses a dual-core processor. You may recall, a while back, there had been rumors of a dual-core HTC device heading to Magenta this Holiday season. Additionally, the user that had uploaded these results has also uploaded results for various other T-Mobile USA branded smartphones. To top it off, the guy’s LinkdIn profile reads that he is a Senior Interaction Designer at T-Mobile USA. We’re diggin’ for more details, so stay tuned!

Is This A Real Leaked T-Mobile Roadmap?

The guys over at Androidspin claim to have been sent, via one of their sources, a leaked T-Mobile roadmap showing off 16 devices coming the Magenta way. Let me just say right now, I don’t know if this is real, it most certainly doesn’t look like the roadmaps I have seen in the past…that’s not to say it’s fake, just saying I’m suspicious of its validity. Which means, for those of you who will inevitably manage to skip over this sentence in the post, these dates, phones, codenames and pretty much everything seen above is subject to change and/or confirmation. I will say this, it’s been made very clear to me that LG is in the T-Mobile game this year and will showcase a number of devices by years end and this roadmap shows only two devices coming at years end, so I’m skeptical at the moment.

Let me tell you what I know is coming, I was planning on doing a separate post regarding this but I’ll tell you what we believe is coming up. The HTC Vanguard is scheduled for sometime in September, so that lines up well. As well as the single BlackBerry launch scheduled for this year and we hear this one is “worth the wait.” Whatever that means, I have no idea but it better be something that gives BlackBerry the swift kick in the rear it so desperately needs. The true successor to the G1 is scheduled for launch before November, aka G1 V2 for those of you who remember back that far that was the originally rumored name. Well we don’t know if that’s the case anymore but we hear that the phone itself does exist and will be releasing sometime on, or before, November. In fact, let’s go a little further and say that the HTC Vision and the G1 V2 might indeed be the same device

Along with the phone release dates, the myTouch 3G, Cliq and Cliq XT look to be getting their Éclair updates sometime in August. That’s just under a month away but long enough to likely not calm the masses already screaming at Motorola for the lack of information regarding future updates.

The HTC Emerald, which conjures up ideas of our first leaked Project Emerald story is slated for November 5th. Also slated for a November launch is the Motorola Jordan and the Begonia and then HTC has the Schubert planned for November 17th.

So far, we can verify some of this sounds pretty accurate but the image itself just looks far off from the typical roadmap. We’ll chalk this up firmly in the rumored but hopeful category for now and work our own sources to confirm.

HTC Vision is Viewed

First off, Happy Fourth of July!  Now, let’s get this started.  Everything after this point should be placed in the RUMOR folder.  You might remember talks of a new HTC Android phone with a full QWERTY keyboard when we were all going crazy over Project Emerald.  We said then that the rumored device was called the HTC Vision.  Back to present day, a picture of the so called HTC Vision has surfaced.  They say that this phone has a 3.7-inch display powered by a 1GHz processor (Snapdragon?) and Android 2.1 with Sense (but that doesn’t look like the current Sense UI).  Now, those don’t match up with the Superphone specs that we heard about in the past.  We will just need to wait and see what HTC brings to good ol’ Magenta in the future.  Leave your thoughts in the comments!
