Motorola Charm Definitely Delayed Till August, Coming In Two Colors

The Motorola Charm may not have the T-Mobile Android masses as excited as the Samsung Vibrant, but it might welcome a new audience to the Android world. It was only a week ago that our first report surfaced regarding a possible delay in the Charm launch and given the above screen shot, the Charm has been delayed till August 25th. Our earlier report suggested that battery issues were to blame and that Motorola was working on a fix to battery drainage issues, possibly providing an extended battery with purchase. It’s all speculation as this point, but given the Cliq’s launch and release under less than thrilling battery conditions, it’s a possible repeat scenario for Motorola.

On a secondary note, it looks as though we might get graced with not one, but two color schemes for the Motorola Charm, a Cabernet and a Golden-Bronze. They both sound so exciting, I’ll take the Cabernet please.

Be The First To Own The Samsung Vibrant, Thanks To eBay

One of the posts I enjoy doing most around here is the almost clockwork like eBay sale that inevitably comes before the release of a high profile device like the Samsung Vibrant. We’ve seen it with the myTouch Slide, myTouch 3G, and the Motorola Cliq just to name a few. Something to mention here is the failure of the seller to get the proper bands right for the T-Mobile edition only mentioning Bands 850/900/1800/1900, so a little bit of fail right there. We’re not sure how exactly this person got their hands on a Vibrant so early as we haven’t heard anything about people getting their hands on them early. However, someone somehow got a hold of one and it can be yours if the price is right!

Is This A Real Leaked T-Mobile Roadmap?

The guys over at Androidspin claim to have been sent, via one of their sources, a leaked T-Mobile roadmap showing off 16 devices coming the Magenta way. Let me just say right now, I don’t know if this is real, it most certainly doesn’t look like the roadmaps I have seen in the past…that’s not to say it’s fake, just saying I’m suspicious of its validity. Which means, for those of you who will inevitably manage to skip over this sentence in the post, these dates, phones, codenames and pretty much everything seen above is subject to change and/or confirmation. I will say this, it’s been made very clear to me that LG is in the T-Mobile game this year and will showcase a number of devices by years end and this roadmap shows only two devices coming at years end, so I’m skeptical at the moment.

Let me tell you what I know is coming, I was planning on doing a separate post regarding this but I’ll tell you what we believe is coming up. The HTC Vanguard is scheduled for sometime in September, so that lines up well. As well as the single BlackBerry launch scheduled for this year and we hear this one is “worth the wait.” Whatever that means, I have no idea but it better be something that gives BlackBerry the swift kick in the rear it so desperately needs. The true successor to the G1 is scheduled for launch before November, aka G1 V2 for those of you who remember back that far that was the originally rumored name. Well we don’t know if that’s the case anymore but we hear that the phone itself does exist and will be releasing sometime on, or before, November. In fact, let’s go a little further and say that the HTC Vision and the G1 V2 might indeed be the same device

Along with the phone release dates, the myTouch 3G, Cliq and Cliq XT look to be getting their Éclair updates sometime in August. That’s just under a month away but long enough to likely not calm the masses already screaming at Motorola for the lack of information regarding future updates.

The HTC Emerald, which conjures up ideas of our first leaked Project Emerald story is slated for November 5th. Also slated for a November launch is the Motorola Jordan and the Begonia and then HTC has the Schubert planned for November 17th.

So far, we can verify some of this sounds pretty accurate but the image itself just looks far off from the typical roadmap. We’ll chalk this up firmly in the rumored but hopeful category for now and work our own sources to confirm.

Bad Move For Motorola, T-Mobile And Android In General

Let me just start by saying that I’ve been a little out of the loop these past few days, so if I haven’t responded to your email, tweet or smoke signal, my apologies. So many of you have written in regarding the delayed announcement by Motorola regarding the Cliq update, and for very good reason. You are upset, no upset would not be the right word, livid would probably be a better explanation for how you are feeling. I’m going to keep this short, but if there is one problem I have with Android, this is it. You are at the mercy of not one, but two powers to make sure your phone is as update to date as your neighbors. Buying these phones on good faith from T-Mobile and Motorola is something you did without the precondition of an update, but when one is promised, it should be honored. More to the point, when one is promised prior to a certain date, how about Motorola and T-Mobile not wait until the last possible minute to comment on it? Bad form guys, bad form…a lot of you have asked me to use the power of the website to make this happen and while I love the sentiment, I think we are all at the mercy of powers that will simply only answer with press released, legally approved snippets, exactly as they posted just a day ago.

Look, the bottom line is this sucks, no way around that and no sense in sugar coating it. However, I do not know what else we can do but sit and wait. A lawsuit, or threats of a Better Business Bureau complaint etc., will not make the update come any faster. It might give you a sense of personal satisfaction, but your phone still won’t look any different. That being said, after the Samsung Behold 2 debacle, Google likely needs to step in here and make something happen. This is ridiculous and is a major setback to Android advancement in the marketplace. Android diehards and apologetics aside, if I were a new customer and I was considering this phone, I would not buy it any more having read about all the unhappy people with the lack of an update. No chance, no way, no how would I buy a phone that has this many upset people.

Let’s be honest, there is no nice way to say this to either T-Mobile or Motorola, so I will just say it. You dropped the ball and while you may not do more than just give us the approved comments, you should do yourselves a favor and listen to my readers and become better organized, or fear making the same mistake Samsung did or worse, watching customers leave.

Android 2.1 Update For Motorola CLIQ Delayed

Don’t say we didn’t tell you! Today, Motorola officially announced, via their support forums, that Android 2.1 for the CLIQ has been delayed. Motorola states that the reason they’re unable to deliver the Android 2.1 update for the planned Q2 date is because of a decision to take more time on the release to help “optimize the experience in some key areas”. This delay seems to line up perfectly with what we heard previously of an update for the CLIQ scheduled for release sometime in July. Let’s all hope there aren’t anymore delays!

Motorola Charm on its Way?

Maybe you aren’t digging the MyTouch Slide or the Samsung Vibrant.  Well, it looks as though Motorola will be giving T-Mobile customer’s another Android pick, and it might be charming.  Dubbed the Motorola Charm, which we think might be the Motorola Basil from a while back, this portrait qwerty, candybar Android phone will surely make some people happy.  This is reportedly running the new and improved Motoblur, with scalable widgets and enhanced Facebook and Twitter integration, all powered by Android 2.1.  This new Motoblur should hit the Cliq and Cliq XT as well, so look for that in the future.  Aside from that, not much is know about this phone.  Stay tuned for more information and, as always, leave your thoughts in the comments!

Motorola Updates Android Update, Cliq and Cliq XT Listed

Update: In my absentmindedness, Alex was kind enough to help me remember this has been posted before, and again here. Turns out, nothing has changed but for now we’ll leave the post up as a reminder for Cliq and Cliq XT owners.

It’s not unusual for us to get vague answers regarding future Android updates and certainly with the Samsung Behold 2 situation fresh in our minds, they are fair questions. Motorola has again updated their Android update calendar leaving both the Cliq and Cliq XT scheduled for the 2nd quarter. Of course, we’ve already received word that the Cliq is scheduled to receive Android 2.1 in July and that certainly falls within the 2nd quarter. Anyone keeping track recognizes the second quarter ends in just about two weeks so lets hope Q2 really doesn’t mean Q3.

Motorola Cliq Getting Bump To Android 2.1 In July?

While we’re running this one without any sort of documentation to back it up, a number of sources emailed in last light stating the Motorola Cliq will be getting the Android 2.1 in “early July.” Normally we’d take it with a  grain of salt, but when a dozen or more people email in the same thing, we have to consider the possibility its real. So take this with a grain of salt but it looks as if the Motorola Cliq will be receiving some Android goodness in the next 45 days or so. No word on the Cliq XT in case anyone was wondering.

Motorola Cliq Running Android 2.1 Spotted In Wild?

For the moment we’re chalking up this screenshot of a Motorola Cliq running Android 2.1 is as rare as the White Unicorn. This image, courtesy of those fine folks at AndroidCommunity is about as stumped as we are and as they say “have information to give you about this.” Of course the model number is MB200 aka the Motorola Cliq and the phone is clearly running on T-Mobile US but that’s about all we can surmise from this image. We don’t know if its fake or a demo or someone wanting to tease the masses because he may be the only person on earth running the Cliq on that software version. Rest assured that its likely every Android loving website on earth is attempting to track down the origin of this image. Regardless, we can only hope that Motorola is ready to make good on its Android 2.1 promise for Cliq users everywhere.
