T-Mobile Alcatel Idol 4S with Windows 10 unboxing

T-Mobile will officially launch the Alcatel Idol 4S with Windows 10 later this week, but if you’re still on the fence about this high-end Windows handset, check out the above unboxing video from Beau at PhoneDog.

The Idol 4S with Windows 10 features a 5.5-inch 1920×1080 AMOLED display, 21-megapixel rear camera, 4GB of RAM, and a Snapdragon 820 processor. There are also dual front speakers on its face and a fingerprint reader on its rear. Other Idol 4S with Windows 10 spec include 64GB of storage, a microSD slot, 8-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 3,000mAh battery.

T-Mobile will launch the Idol 4S with Windows 10 on November 10 for $469.99 full retail. Included with each phone is a virtual reality headset, 45-day Hulu trial, 60-day Groove Music trial, and a free copy of the Halo: Spartan Assault game.

Windows 10 isn’t a huge part of the mobile market, but there are some dedicated fans of the platform, so it’s good to see a new, higher-end Windows 10 smartphone launching at T-Mobile. Are you thinking about picking up the Idol 4S with Windows 10?

I just did JOD to an iPhone SE like 4 days ago and now I wish I waited for this. Do I just return my device or JOD again?

    • Allen Alberto Enriquez

Just JOD you have up to 3 per year I still have not used my first year now it’s my second year still not going maybe until now. Have you read enough about this phone and WIndows? Well if you have you must know Xbox had some cool things coming so it’s going to be a change that will blow some people’s minds. I am more of PS4 but also like Xbox.

I hate Windows! I’m open source all of the way.

  • 1) Yes, the boom button on the outside is customizable.
    2) “Microsoft may not work on fixing bugs” — what?? Windows 10 has a common code across all devices, so bugs that are present in all devices get fixed on all devices. Also, so far, any mobile specific bugs seem to be getting addressed promptly.
    3) Few people seem to understand that Microsoft is not committed to “phones” but IS committed to the ARM processor platform…which for now means mostly “phones” but it also means / will mean … IoT, cars, etc. The ‘make a phone call” part of any phone OS is really a small part of it… so let’s remember that, to Microsoft, it’s an ARM device that “oh yeah… makes phone calls.”… and it runs Universal Windows apps… (personally, I’d just rather have my tablet / laptop / desktop/ be capable of making phone calls when I’m working on those devices… and then hotswap a sim/Bluetooth modular component from those devices to connect to a phone… of any OS…when I get up and walk away.
    4) with the Windows phone market shrinking, Alcatel stands a good chance at making good money by repurposing Android hardware (no new R&D required) for the Win10 market…. The market doesn’t have to be big, if Alcatel is the only player (or almost the only player)…

Awesome phone but the boom button is NOT customizable, it’s a dedicated camera button

So far compared to the 950XL its night and day. The Idol4S is in line with the HTC ONE M8 ( Notice the two nicest built non-Nokia Windows Phones started as Android..?). Camera is great ( although missing features of the 950XL). Screen is noticfeably smaller and has more wasted space than the 950XL ( Frame about the same as 950XL, screen about the same as the HTC M8 or 950 / 925). That said, the build and especially the speakers ( THEY ARE Awesome ) feels premium on a level I haven’t seen in a while on a WP. Really slick and the finger print scarnner worked better than my LG V10 by a long shot. The VR Goggles are are a joke only three or 4 apps and 2 terrible games.. Also everytime you stick them in you have to use their apps no work around. They are pretty much useless. Also the control buttons on them don’t interface with the phone real well. They feel much more like a beta product than a real item. So yes at $469 great deal for the phone and its a great WP.. The Goggles are just window dressing and fun for an hour or two. Wishing the HP Elite X3 was available at Tmobile. Love to get my hands on that and not have to pay over $700 out of pocket.
