T-Mobile Galaxy S7 receiving July security update

galaxys7front

UPDATE: T-Mobile has now updated its GS7 and GS7 edge support pages to say that both phones are getting updates starting today, July 8, and that the updates will be rolling out through July 22.

Samsung Galaxy S7 owners, the time to update has come again.

T-Mobile is now pushing the July 1 security update to its Galaxy S7. Normally we see the GS7 and GS7 edge receive updates at the same time, but I haven’t been able to find any GS7 edge owners reporting that they’re getting an update. So if you’ve got a GS7 edge and are getting an update this morning, give me a shout.

As for the Galaxy S7, its update weighs in at 340MB, and it brings the phone up to the July 1 security patch level. T-Mo doesn’t appear to have updated its S7 and S7 edge support pages with info on the July security update.

If you’ve got an S7 or S7 edge, you can manually check for an update by going into Settings > About device > Download updates manually > OK > Start. And you should keep an eye out for your July security update, because it’s important to keep your phone — the device that holds your personal info — secure.

Did the update on my S7 edge. Honestly I don’t see any difference. Anyone noticed anything?

  • StevenM

    S7 Edge here–no update yet…

  • Jason Caprio

Is a little security update for a phone really worthy of a news article? Come on now lol

    • MattPortland

      Yes.

    • user311

Wouldn’t have known about it without this article so it’s greatly appreciated.

S7, got it. Seems really big for just a security patch. It does also say there are some bug fixes and inhansments. but it always says that :

  • Mike

Cant pull it down in smart switch or OTA so it looks like it was pulled.

    • Mike

      S7 Edge forgot to say.

      • Marcus Rose

I have the S7 Edge and I just pulled it down from via OTA…try it again

  • BadBatz

Hopefully the patches are current for Galaxy: T-Mobile US HTC Ten is getting OTA with a rather dated version 1.81.531.1.

  • Eric

S7 (non-edge) downloaded and installed the update. Seems fine

  • Eddie G

Here in South Texas, just checked and update just downloaded on my S7 edge.

    • MattPortland

      Not here it Portland either.

      • Eddie G

        I did get the update.

        • MattPortland

          I just did. Lol

      • symsoul

I got mine! Unfortunately, my phone seems to be acting up since then but I’m not sure if it’s associated.

S7 Edge update is now available

  • Mike

Getting update also on S7 Edge. It will be a shame if all this crap is just security updates. Android is so lacking, no innovation whatsoever and can’t even do simple things that iOS has been doing for years. I’m so not impressed with Android after using it for last couple months compared to iOS. How does Samsung/Google Android expect to compete? Manufactures just keep pushing Android hardware crap that becomes obsolete literally overnight due to lack of Manufacture and Google updating the devices often to improve and optimize their devices. This is why Apple and iOS are so much more superior. Step up to the plate Google!

What does IOS do that android doesnt?

      • Bradley Karas

Well iOS does give the drones this false sense of need for subpar technology and a “boys and girls club” mentality…but other than that the phone sucks, the camera sucks, the antenna sucks and T-Mobile brought advanced messaging to all their Android phones so now iMessage is not exclusive anymore now Apple is doing the chasing in the iPhone 7 cause Samsung just dudied on them with the S7

      • dtam

I think what he means is android needs to innovate so apple can steal some ideas…

    • Frettfreak

Wow… first person i have ever heard say that. Go back to iOS then man.

    • Ryan

Last time i checked. 90% of the “innovations” that Apple has came up with. Was from Android or other eco systems. So, Siri was a Android app. iMesseanger is a clone of blackberry messenger. “3D Touch”? Really? So you get different menus. Notification bars…that android has had forever. Where would you like to go from here?

I have a an S7 edge for T-Mobile and I JUST updated it, I Google the update to see what it does

  • Yo Lord

I have the S7 Edge I got my update yesterday.

  • John

Just received an update for my Note 5 this morning

  • Neoprimal

I received the update but am curious as to why it’s so massive. It’s basically the size of an Android update but there are no new features listed on the support page, just security updates and system improvements. It’d be nice to get just a bit more detail into what was updated.

Still, Thanks T-Mo, Google and Samsung!
