Samsung Galaxy Note 7 branding and spec details leak out

The past five Samsung Galaxy Note flagships have appeared on T-Mobile, and so it’s not crazy to assume that the next model will, too. And thanks to some new leaks, we may have some details on what that new Note will have to offer when it hits T-Mo.

Several leaks detailing the Galaxy Note 7 have been posted by Evan Blass. First up is the name itself, which leaked branding indicates will be “Galaxy Note 7” and “Galaxy Note 6,” even though this will be the sixth Galaxy Note flagship. It’s possible that Samsung is skipping 6 to go to 7 so that the numbering of its Galaxy Note and Galaxy S flagships are the same, making it clear to consumers looking at the two phones in the store that they’re both Samsung’s latest hardware.

When it comes to the Galaxy Note 7’s feature set, Blass tells us to expect features like a 5.7-inch 2560×1440 Super AMOLED display, 12-megapixel Dual Pixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front camera (like those found in the GS7), and IP68 water and dust resistance. There will reportedly be 64GB of storage internally, but unlike the Galaxy Note 5, the Galaxy Note 7 is expected to offer a microSD slot so that users can add even more storage if they’d like.

One other notable feature that’s rumored to be included with the Galaxy Note 7 is an iris scanner. Samsung has offered fingerprint readers in several of its past Galaxy flagships, giving users added security, but an iris scanner could take the Note 7’s security up another notch. Exactly how well that iris scanner works is something that we’ll determine when the Note 7 launches, but it could make for an interesting addition since we don’t see many iris scanners on smartphones.

As for when the new Note might launch, rumors have suggested a mid-August launch. If today’s leaks hold true, it sounds like the Galaxy Note 7 will adopt several of the Galaxy S7’s features, like its 12-megapixel camera and microSD slot. Considering that the Galaxy Note 5 lacked a microSD card slot after its predecessors all had one, the Note 7 could be a welcome upgrade for fans of the Note series.
