T-Mobile Galaxy S7 and S7 edge updates include Power and Volume buttons bug fix, system improvements

UPDATE: It looks like T-Mobile has pulled the details on these updates. Perhaps someone jumped the gun in posting the info.

Heads up, Galaxy S7 and S7 edge owners, because new updates are coming your way.

T-Mobile has announced new updates for both the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge that are slated to start rolling out today, May 2. The updates both weigh in at 164MB and include a fix for a bug affecting the Power and Volume keys. Also included are unspecified system improvements.

These updates will be rolling out over the air between May 2 and May 5. To check for your phone’s update manually, you can go into Settings > About device > Download updates manually > OK > Start.

While these GS7 and GS7 edge updates may not sound super exciting, they should help to iron out the Power and Volume key bug that’s affecting some folks and help to improve system performance, too. And when it comes to a device that you rely on every day for communication, updates that help it to run more smoothly are always good to see.

Are any of you Galaxy S7 and S7 edge owners having issues with your Power and Volume keys?

i havent had any button issues i just hope they fixed standby drain

    • Ray

Standby drain went away for me after the April 4 update.

    • vinnyjr

Standby Drain? I go to bed at 100% battery and 7-8 hrs later wake up with 98%. Very happy with that. Never had any issues with Volume. My device is perfect. Couldn’t be happier.

  • jonathan3579

Hmm.. I’ve never had this issue and my device is a launch unit which has the dreaded SD card issue.

    • Calgrav24

I have a launch s7 edge. What sd card issue are you referring to? The only thing I noticed is whenever I restart my device it gives me a notification that I have an SD card inserted but nothing else abnormal.

  • Bradley Karas

I haven’t seen the update yet I’m assuming it will happen late night. I haven’t really had any issues at all but this isn’t a launch device I got mine a week after launch

    • dontsh00tmesanta

      I tried it on lte

      I’ll try on wifi

      • Bradley Karas

        I tried on Wi-Fi already doesn’t matter

        • dontsh00tmesanta

          Yea it didn’t

          Has anyone got this update?

  • jgarc792

I had the volume problem with my phone literally hiring and lowering itself without the phone being touched. Hope this update fixes it

    • dontsh00tmesanta

      Raising not hiring

      • jgarc792

You understand what I’m writing spell check. Go troll elsewhere.

        • dontsh00tmesanta

Please get it right I remember using that word in elementary school haha

  • mreveryphone

What is the SD card issue?? And what issue is going on with the power and volume buttons?? Guess I don’t have these issues if I’m asking these questions… My device is a pre-ordered on the very first pre-order day if that is a thing with those early adopted devices.

  • keeb

My S7E and my fiancee’s both experienced an issue where the power button and volume button stop functioning properly until we reset the phone using power + volume down. Its only happened once or twice in the last two months though.

  • Jeremy Turnley

I’ve had some hard to describe power/home issues. One doesn’t work as expected, then you hit the other one and both work from there on, until it happens again a random amount of time later. I think it’s only been happening since the last update, don’t remember seeing it before that.

  • Brad

I’m mainly hoping for a fix to the scheduling of the do not disturb feature, which force closes every time you attempt to edit it.

  • dethduck

The only issue I’ve had is wifi constantly dropping and reconnecting. As I rely on WiFi Calling this is insanely frustrating.

  • I’m Just Friend of a Friend

Are they still giving away free stuff like that Netflix thing? I’m thinking about upgrading my Note 5 for that Edge. Not having an SD Card is becoming very problematic!

  • Athan Broers

My phone has been getting hot. Also I have crap service in places my G4 had great service.

  • dontsh00tmesanta

Haha look at that edit I figured they jumped the gun as I’d have the update right away

  • Loco Mole

    1. Root
    2. Install Xposed & Xposed Addtition Module
    3. Map Long Press Home Button to show Power Menu and Long Press Back to turn off screen.
    4. No need to use the power button anymore except for special cases.

But STEP 0 is to get SM-G930F international S7 variant because the T-Mobile variant is bootloader locked and still unrootable.

    • Ascertion

Vast majorty of the people here will have the T-Mobile variant. Especially since a lot of them picked up the BOGO S7s. I’ll be selling my S7 off soon (or gifting to a family member.) in favor of the M10, which already has an unlockable bootloader and TWRP recovery.

      • Loco Mole

Yeah, my BOGO was approved and just waiting for the gift card. Already got Netflix codes and Gear VR. So far the SM-G930F is doing what I need it to do, with root and SuperMan ROM (converted Edge). I started the HTC 10 camera thread on XDA.

But, until I get my hands on the 10, it’s the S7 camera on top for now. I went out to dinner with S7 930F and Sony RX100 IV. Didn’t even need to take out the RX100 IV – and that’s a $1K compact camera with great low light. So, for water resistance and daily on-hand camera, it’s the S7. Those two have higher priority for me than VoLTE (which may work later on the S7 930F once we get the right people to mod the framework). No AOSP (and probably won’t get it on Exynos) but so far this modern Touch Wiz with the right rooted ROM and Xposed mods are doing fine for me (and have been on AOSP/CM/Slim-based ROMs for years since the Galaxy S).

        • iusers

How is the reception on t-mobile network with your SM-G930F? do you get LTE?

      • Morton H

I totally agree I ordered my HTC 10. I have always loved there phones, but stopped using them because of innovation and specs.. they have nailed the 10.. I have mines coming tomorrow in black. which color are you getting.? I will miss the Samsung Pay though,, which however should be a unlocked app on the play store for everyone to get regardless of which platform or device your using.

      • dontsh00tmesanta

        Same here for a h10

    • Philip

Samsung is bad. They never have bootloader locked before for the T-mobile.

  • Philip

I just check my phone and no update.

  • Brian Richards

Very confused. the “Source” links do not mention this update. They both say the most recent update is the 4/4 update. There is no update coming through when manually checking OTA or through Smart Switch. Are you sure about the accuracy of this article?

    • Chad Spencer

Totally agree, And my baseband shows the latest number? weird.

    • thenew3

They pulled it. Yesterday the tmobile support page had a different baseband listed and a date of 5/2.

  • Jay Holm

I wasn’t aware my S7 has a problem with the volume and power buttons!

  • Bradley Karas

Just got the update this morning

  • mreveryphone

Received an update this morning but it didn’t have anything in it about the volume and power buttons… But did mention something about a fm radio… Interesting…

  • Joe

Update hit this morning. I’m now on version G935TUVU2APD7. Still Android 6.0.1 though.
