T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6 unboxing

Days after we saw the T-Mobile version of the HTC One M9 get unboxed, our own Marco Hanna is pulling the Samsung Galaxy S6 from its packaging.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is a pretty radical departure from previous Samsung flagships, ditching the removable battery, microSD card slot, and plastic construction of previous Galaxy S phones for a metal and glass build. The result is one of the best-looking Samsung smartphones that we’ve seen to date. Samsung has also boosted the Galaxy S6’s screen resolution to 2560×1440 and included its own Exynos processor inside this U.S. model rather than a Qualcomm-made Snapdragon chip. So yeah, this is a pretty different flagship for Samsung.

Have any of you managed to try a Samsung Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 edge yet? If so, what did you think?

I got my black S6 on Tuesday. Love it. Battery not as good as my G2, but not terrible either. I can confirm band 12 is active out of the box, seen it a few times here in Minneapolis.

Ready to purchase on April 10th launch day for T-Mobile of course. Adding the S6 Edge to my family of Samsung devices everyone knows how I roll.

    • Oliver Jackson

It’s over the S6 and S6 Edge is all that matters. They’re going to shut it down April 10th

    • JLV90

why on launch day you could have had it already?

  • Omar Boyer

i will be getting the S6 from tmobile for my mom n i will get the Edge from Att for myself.

  • Received my 64GB deep Dark Blue(Black Sapphire) GS6 “Proper” and I have to say, it’s the first Samsung device that I’ve Actually liked in Years. Build is Phenomenal, Software is quick, Camera is Stellar, and feels Amazing in the hand and Pocket. Yeah the Battery life isn’t “quite” as good as M8, but it’s Actually not very far 0ff from it. I do have to say idle time is really incredible also. Just one of the best devices out there.

    • Jimmy James

I feel the software is lacking horribly, compared to Sense. They lock down more settings, especially in Wi-Fi and data. I cannot set it to only use 5ghz, and I cannot force it to stay connected to 4LTE, using apps like Elixir 2. It states those settings are blocked, which weren’t on my Lollipop HTC One M8. Where I live, I have reasons for this option being available. There are more goofy things I’ve come across, so I may return for an HTC One 9. Yes, the screen colors are beautiful, but as reviewers have said, your eyes can’t tell the pixel density difference on such a small screen from 1080p. I do like the multi-window function though, never available on HTC phones without third-party software.

  • George

HTC is updating M7. LG is updating G2.. Samsung is NOT updating S4 to lollipop. All of them released in 2013 and samsung made ton of money with the S4. I will not buy anymore Samsung phone. Thankyou Sammy for not supporting your famous phones, bye…. bye.

    • p0nch0

      Bye Felicia

    • Michel M.

I believe the answer to your cries follows:

      C-Y-A-N-O-G-E-N-M-O-D 1-2

      • xmiro

too bad it can be so buggy

  • Joe

I got my s6 two days ago and so far the only thing I don’t like is the pre installed software that I can’t wait to root and get rid of it all. Other than that it’s pretty good.

  • Jay Holm

That frinkin GE fire in Kansas caused shipment of my S6 to be delayed, it’s in Connecticut now though, hopefully it will be delivered Monday, I will download Nova.

    • gmo8492

Wait, Samsung phones get routed to a GE appliance plant?

      • Jay Holm

Wow dude, just wow. The UPS facility is in the vicinity of the GE plant, and the smoke from the fire caused visibility issues, and therefore the UPS plane carrying my package couldn’t take off. There better be an update on tracking sometime in the next couple hours though. I’m off today and want to have plenty of time to set my S6 up and customize it.

        • gmo8492

          It was a joke.

    • Jimmy James

With Nova, you don’t get the multi-window function.

      • Jay Holm

Changin the launcher effects multiwindow? Ahh, I should be ok.

        • Jimmy James

Nope. I was wrong. Loser error. Still works. Good, as I also used Nova on my previous phone.

        • Jay Holm

This is going to be my first time using Nova, I’ve been using Go Launcher for 4yrs.

  • Cam Fas

All that processing horsepower and all that touch wiz scaling back along with all that ram and you can’t make a phone that has less lag then a dual core iphone with one gig of ram SMH sorry Samsung you bit off Apple and did everything that you advertised not doing in previous phones

    • Joe

Yeah I mean they did do some improvement to touch wiz but there is still allot of stuff that is still there. I don’t know why they cant just make tuch wiz look like vanilla android put multi window, there camera software, WiFi calling, VoLTE, ultra power saving mode and call it a day that would make there software the best thing ever and with all of the beast hardware it would fly throu everything and would never slow down for the most part.

EDIT: They could also have all of there software on Google play for those who want it.

    • Jimmy James

They released updates Sunday or Saturday to their ANT and beaming service software in the Play store, that resolved even the tiniest bit of lag on my phone. It is a power horse. Really noticeable when browsing the Internet. So when people get their phone on April 10, they will not have any lag.

      • xmiro

it’s still pretty pathetic Android needs 3GB of RAM to operate even close to smooth. My GS4 and GS2 both have problems stuttering and lagging once I’ve loaded all the apps I want and use

    • Spanky

In terms of pure specs, the S6 eats the iPhone 6 for breakfast. However, I stopped caring about specs when I got the iPhone 6 last September, as it offers a well-polished, optimized experience. I’ve heard similar things about the original Moto X, that featured a dual core processor at a time when every other OEM moved to quad core.

  • Satisfied

I just unboxed my Note 4. Great battery. Beautiful screen, nice SD slot. Problem solved.

    • gmo8492

Samsung gets your money either way.

      • Satisfied

Yes but this year I’m still getting what I want. The Note 4 is a great phone.

    • Jay Holm

It’s that Super AMOLED screen that keeps me as a Samsung customer.

  • jim

the s6 in gold i ordered 7 days ago is going no where and backordered. it is shipping after April 10th? They are sitting in Seoul or Bejing?

    • Jay Holm

Which is exactly why I cancelled my order for the gold one and asked ehwhat is actually in stock, they have the 64GB white one in stock, so I ordered that one. Enough with waiting!

      • atown7475

I believe the gold would only be available starting 4/10

        • Jay Holm

I called today inquiring if the Gold is still on backorder, and was told it won’t be in stock til 4/12, major failure from Samsung!!!!

        • Michel M.

I don’t know what it is about gold, but ANY device that’s clad in it always gets backordered. The 5S, 6/6+, S5, S6/S6E, even the iPads, all backordered.

        • Jay Holm

I just wasn’t willing to wait. My 64GB white S6 will be delivered today. The Gold S6 isn’t regular gold, it’s better, it’s Platinum Gold, sort of metallic like. Very nice!

        • Michel M.

I don’t want to wait, but the color is so nice I have too. But you’ll see me by my window on the 12th waiting for the UPS truck to pull up. They can’t handle me, they aren’t ready.

        • Jay Holm

I’ve been so pissed at UPS, my S6 was in Stratford last Friday, there is no reason it ccouldn’t

        • Michel M.

Just go to your nearest distribution center with your ID, receiptreceipt/confirmation, and tracking number and “ask” (refuse to leave) for your package.

        • Nicholeycola

Houston? Omg i hate that one! One day i didn’t even gey my phone that was sent overnight. Why? Bc the driver decided to come to my apartments drop off eight packages including mine at th. Guard station and leave. I chewed ups out!

        • Jay Holm

UPS is fk’n stupid! And lazy, and dicourtious! I had my S6 sent to my work address. I like the keyboard a lot by the way!

        • Nicholeycola

That’s exactly what i did with the replacement of the replacement and for my. S6. Whenever they decide to ship it.

        • Michel M.

UPS seems to screw up with the good packages, but gets the other stuff right.

        • Michel M.

So how is it? My S6 is going to be delivered tomorrow

      • Randall Lind

4/10 is the official lunch day so can’t really complain. T-Mo is shipping some unit early.

  • i should’ve kept the first S6 i had but i ended up ordering another one and it’s been sittin in DFW since Friday. they say “weather delay” but the weather in Dallas has been sunny and clear :| .. that Kentucky business didn’t affect it arriving to Dallas so I don’t know what’s up .. and i’m like 20 minutes from DFW airport hell i can just pick it up lol

  • MatthewPDX

    Can’t watch Marco.

  • Greg Victor

Just got my white S6 Edge today. One of the best looking phones I’ve ever seen.

  • Jimmy James

HTC One’s are the best phones ever and I’ve mistakenly purchased a
Samsung S6, just because I had wanted change after 4 HTC phones. I did not want to become an HTC slappy like iPhone users. Huge mistake. HTC One phones feel perfectly in your hand, have metal construction, best Android interface on a phone (they don’t block some Android settings like Samsung does to dumb it down, or use brightly colored icons to wow you), super fast, volume buttons are on the right like most MP3 players, radios, and smartphones, loud true stereo speakers (not some mono speakers trying to simulate stereo), ability to change the buttons functionality, uh-oh protection, bright sharp screen, service pack updates from the Play store, water resistant (but not enough to list it as true waterproof), good camera for non-photogs, best 1st party phone editing software, great sounding phone calls, etc.

    • K

Sounds like you should’ve stuck with your HTC phones….

  • Frank B

Got to say, the S6 Battery life is real bad. Only 6 hours of basically low usage and I’m down to 50% battery. Not good. I even restarted and it still gets the same life. Very disappointing.

    • xmiro

what do the battery stats say is using so much power?

  • Fernando Vallejo Jr

Question about tmobiles eip. If I were to upgrade to the S6 64gb model, would i be able to put down more than the required $100 towards the device, to lower the monthly rate? Or would it lower the amount of payments owed? I would like to know because i also have to factor in the additional $10 for jump! Thanks.

  • Michel M.

I wonder how the Note 5′ s going to look
