Sony CEO Says Xperia Z Launching On US Carrier In “Coming Weeks”

Screen-Shot-2013-04-07-at-10.24.38-AM

There’s lot of goodness coming out of the AllThingsD D11 conference today an announcement from some Sony folks on the Xperia Z. According to Sony CEO Kaz Hirai “the company plans to soon start selling its flagship Xperia Z phone through a U.S. carrier shortly; increased marketing efforts should help things, Hirai said.” Unfortunately, Hirai wouldn’t reveal the upcoming US carrier but there’s plenty of signs pointing to T-Mobile could be “the” carrier including leaked images of branded test units and a FCC appearance with T-Mobile-ready radios. Sony’s expects the unnamed carrier will make the announcement itself so we’ll be keeping a sharp eye on T-Mobile’s press releases in the coming weeks.

Really, you are just to intelligent for us mere mortals. Now kindly shut up unless you have something intelligent to speak about!

You do no need to be this angry.

        • Graham Blackadder

And you need to learn to spell, not hide as a guest. You are right, I shall feel sympathy for you and your intelligence levels.

        • None

I am no about to have an argument on a tech blog, but here is your intelligent post from Wednesday “Hopefully they can get back on their feet after the torrid time over the last 3 yes or so.”

        • Graham Blackadder

          …… …….

You are welcome. I DO agree with you on another topic you posted on though… You asked about a good comparison article of a Nexus phone vs. a Google Expericence phone. I would love to see that as well.

        • Graham Blackadder

Phonedog.com they have the article about nexus v Google experience

    • kev2684

no way! you mean a flagship will come to US in one or more of the 4 major carriers? i totally thought it’s only heading to US Cellular, Leap wireless and Cricket.

    • g2a5b0e

I thumbed him up because I’m hoping he was trying to be funny.

  • zac

Has TMo had a flagship exclusive since the Sidekick?

    • steveb944

The mediocre MyTouch line, as well as arguably some of the Nexus.

    • guest

      G1. First ever android

      • g2a5b0e

Not sure if the G1 can be truly considered a “flagship”. A flagship should lead others by definition. At that time, there was nothing to lead.

  • thepanttherlady

It’s about time!! Even if it is several months after its initial launch.

    • Zacamandapio

      Where have you been Grrrrrrrrrlllll.

      • thepanttherlady

        Lurking. :)

LTE sightings and launches aren’t in the OC so there hasn’t been much for me to comment on. Le’sigh

        • Zacamandapio

          You’re right.
          Nothing here in Anaheim.

Last weekend I went to LA and I had 4G LTE on my Z10.
          :D

        • thepanttherlady

That’s where I am. ;) HSPA+ works great most of the time so I’m not complaining about lack of LTE.

How do you think your battery life is going to be on the Z10 once LTE does light up?

        • Zacamandapio

          Like this.
          ;..(

          :D

        • thepanttherlady

          That made me laugh. :)

    Better not be AT&T

  • yolanda

I got to try this phone on TELCEL mexico cuz mexicans get phones waay before us here in the US when i was visiting family in Mexico city and it was …..eh ok. iwouldn’t get it again here in the US even if tmobile released it here.

  • TMO fan

How about an Xperia Z with a Google “Nexus” experience ala the HTC ONE or GS4 as of recently.

    • thepanttherlady

Hey now, let’s just be excited for a moment that it might finally be coming to Magenta! LOL

  • TMoFan

Glad we’re getting this (if AT&T doesn’t swoop in and screw things up.) It’s a great phone that stands out and will offer choice.

    • thepanttherlady

I have the unlocked version and love it so far.

      • Hussein Aweis

I heard otterbox case is not available for this phone. What kind of case do you use?

        • thepanttherlady

I installed a Phantomskinz full body shield on it. For fear of ruining the charging and headset ports (part of what keeps the phone water resistance) I bought the charging dock (one for work and one for home) as well as a stereo Bluetooth headset. With that being said, a case won’t work with the charging dock. Besides, the phone is too beautiful for one!

      • Mushdagrt

        How is the battery life?

        • thepanttherlady

This is a hard one to answer only because the phone spends 90% of the work day on a charging dock (I am constantly streaming music). I will say that the battery life is MUCH better than the one I had on the Nexus 4. That one made me want to chuck the phone against a wall. :/ It isn’t as good as the larger battery on the Note 2 either. On average, once I leave work I don’t put it on the charger again until bedtime. A couple times when I was cycling the battery I remember hitting red and thinking “man this is taking a long time to die!” Those were some late nights. LOL

The Xperia Z offers Power Management options like Stamina Mode. It is supposed to give you the best bang for your buck so to speak. Once turned on, all data functions will be disabled as long as your screen is off. You’ll still be able to receive calls and send texts/mms as well as listen to your music and the FM radio with this feature on. I have read many complaints; however, that the notification light does not work if this feature is on. I don’t know if that pertains to both models (C6602/C6603) or not. I don’t know if that will be an issue with the C6606.

Also want to mention that if T-Mobile is the carrier getting this phone, I don’t know how the battery life will be with LTE on board as it will use up a lot more juice. I’m using model C6602 which doesn’t support LTE so I may end up getting better battery life than the C6606.

  • Verizonthunder

It’s about time T-Mobile get’s a new flagship smartphone brand on android beside’s Samsung, HTC,and Chinese cell phone brand’s. This is what T-Mobile need’s to appeal to more people as I love Sony Product’s

  • gentleman559

Sold………..This is mine as soon as it drops. I need to change up my flava. Im tired of HTC and Sammy

  • g2a5b0e

They couldn’t have wiped off the smudges before taking a picture? Lol.

    • thepanttherlady

Without any type of screen protector this phone IS a fingerprint magnet. :/

      • g2a5b0e

I read ya. I just meant that they should have wiped it clean for the purposes of making it look more presentable for the pic.

        • thepanttherlady

I agree with you. It’s kind of like people who post pics of themselves and in the background it looks like they live in a dump. O_O LOL

        • g2a5b0e

I’m with ya on that. The worst are the folks who take those bathroom pics in front a disgusting mirror. Windex–it’s a life saver, people.

        • thepanttherlady

Or photo cropping at the very least! =D

        • http://tmonews.com David

I think the idea here is to make these images not presentable. There are only a handful of these devices floating around so the more messed up they are, the more blurrycam they can be…the better.

        • thepanttherlady

I actually believe you and that made me chuckle. :)

        • GwapoAko

          Bwahahhaha!!!

  • JafetGarcia

I’m attending the event! :D hopefully they’ll give phones out :P

Oh and the event is on June 11th

  • awatt

This phone has great features, but it’s not LTE… ZL is LTE but it’s not as feature packed as the Z

  • atlagator

too little, too late. This phone will feel one year old in the hand when finally released. Sony needs to stop announcing at CES only to release six months or more later, it’s wasted money.

    • thepanttherlady

I agree with half your post. Sony should have released this phone in the U.S. long before now but i don’t think it’s too little, too late. This phone has done quite well where it has released and a lot of people in the states have been waiting for this phone to arrive. I think it will do well because it offers something different (e.g. Samsung/Apple/HTC) and brings choice. We’ve been waiting for this for a long time. :)

      • Sean Walsh

You can get the Xperia Z & Xperia ZL from the Sony web site or at the Sony stores now.

        • thepanttherlady

The model currently available on their site is the unlocked international one. It does not have the T-Mobile LTE bands.

        • Sean Walsh

The Xperia ZL has LTE & is basically the same phone, minus the water & dust proof feature.

        • thepanttherlady

I’ll stick with the Z, thank you. :) If T-Mobile gets this and offers purple I may sell my unlocked version and get the LTE version.

        • Sean Walsh

I tried both The Z & the ZL. I went with the ZL because it has a better feel. Also because it has LTE & is unlocked. I am able to use the LTE service, eventhough the T-mobile rep said it wouldnt work. I dont care about the water proof feature, as I dont need it.

TMo and phone manufacturers really need to do a better job in getting their flagship phones into retail locations sooner rather than later. They already missed Mother’s Day; Father’s Day and graduation season are right around the corner. These are prime gift giving periods, and still no sign of some of the new flagships in TMo stores. Everyone will be buying Galaxy S4s and iPhones unless Sony, HTC, BlackBerry and Nokia can get their flagships into TMo stores quickly.

  • GwapoAko

I want Xperia ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! ::) got to sleep now!!!zzzzzz!!

  • Jason Nusbaum

I really really want the “Z” but i might have to hold out for the togari or honami…
