Public Service Announcement: Samsung’s Galaxy S 4 Available In “Select” T-Mobile Stores Today

20130501_115751-1-1

A quick public service announcement for all you Galaxy S 4 fans out there as the device officially becomes available at “select” T-Mobile retail stores today. The list of locations is fairly limited so calling ahead is your best bet…but now you don’t have to stare outside for the FedEx/UPS man to arrive. Instead, head down to one of your local T-Mobile company-owned stores and go hands-on and hopefully find one in stock.

Recapping availability and price:

  • Beginning May 8th, the Galaxy S 4 will be available at “select” company-owned retail stores, select T-Mobile authorized dealers and national retail stores.
  • May 15th will see the expansion of the Galaxy S 4 to all T-Mobile company-owned stores nationwide.
  • On T-Mobile’s Simple Choice plan, the Galaxy S 4 will be available for $149 down with 24 monthly payments of $20.

how does one find out which store has it ?

    • bisayan

      call and ask for availibility…

  • Wilma Flintstone

soooo tempting but I need to wait for Google IO. Thanks for the heads up

    • Will

Exactly. No one should buy a phone until after both Google IO and WWDC. You need to always wait until every player has shown his/her hand.

      • Realest Ever

I agree on waiting on the Google I/0 conference. Not an a big apple fan so WWDC is non-existent to me ,if i even pay attention to it its because I love technology and innovations

  • Allyn Woghin

David – you don’t know any stores carrying it near 90278, do you?

    • http://pharaohtechblog.blogspot.com/ Conan Kudo (ニール・ゴンパ)

Try calling them. Phone numbers for every store near you are available in the T-Mobile Store Locator: http://locator.t-mobile.com/Locator.aspx

      • Allyn Woghin

Called every store in my area of SoCal. NO ONE has it. I heard dates from the 12th to the 29th in terms of receipt. Grrr.

  • Ruvim

how about the 32gb verison… only version i will get, or might have to go with htc one :

    • Herb

Haven’t heard anything about the 32GB version being available for T-Mobile. Looks like you might be stuck with the “16GB” version with 9GB of space, but the One is a great phone and you’re not missing out on much except tons of Sammy bloatware.

      • Ruvim

scared to make the jump to htc, 4mp camera is not making it any better, and the weird button setup, htc seems to be much more dev friendly than samsung this time around, just sold my note 2 from verizon, not if i can just make my mind up between the one or the s4… so harddd!

        • jonathan3579

Do not think about it as 4mp. You’re being consumed by marketing. I have the One and I love it. The phone seriously takes great pictures!

        • Ruvim

i don’t know, i tried the att version and wasn’t impressed. Also boomsound wasn’t anything to write home about, maybe cuz i was in a noisy store but still. hows the battery on the One? i know the s4 is 5 to 7hr screen on times from xda forum…

        • jonathan3579

Boomsound is actually pretty amazing as far as phone speakers go. The volume is weirdly louder with Beats turned off. The One is on par and in a lot of cases beats the S4 with battery life. I’ve been following the threads on XDA for the S4 and their battery life is total crap compared to what I get. (And there’s already cases of burn-in for the S4.)

        • Ruvim

ok, ill take your word for it, i have 30 days to return the htc one if i dont like it when i puchase through my corparate perks website :)

        • jonathan3579

You won’t regret it! I had someone asking me on Twitter the very same questions about my experience and feelings on the One, he took my word for it and loves it. Lol. Everyone keeps talking up Zoe but I haven’t even used it yet. That’s on my to-do list.

        • Realest Ever

I will end up getting the one this month if no nexus phone is announced at google I/o next week. This is the only thing keeping me from getting the phone. The only thing that needs to change on it is that weird UI change they made with dragging and dropping apps onto the homescreen. I am also skeptical about going to an all touch screen phone (I am loyal to my HTC G2) and I am in love with stock jellybean on my nexus 10.This is a hard decision

        • Ruvim

          Ok sounds good. Thanks

        • Ruvim

Zoe looks stupid i know i wont use it, i wish there was a phone with htc quality, samsung features, and htcs butter.

        • Herb

Yes, do it! I get around 12 to 15 hours of battery life with heavy usage and have passed 20 with light usage.

        • Herb

I’ve been using the One for almost three weeks and I can say the camera does not disappoint. The 4MP might make for a smaller picture, but the low-light shooting is extremely impressive. I went to Seattle right after I got it and took hundreds of pictures and dozens of “Zoes” in bright sunlight on a ferry tour, and in dark aquariums and museums. I never thought the Zoe feature would be useful, but I find the video highlights so engaging that I want to take tons of Zoes to improve them. I just hope HTC releases more theme packs for video highlights soon.

For context, my last two phones have been Nexus so I obviously don’t care much about camera power, but I still recommend the One over the S4.

        • remister

Don’t forget the Wide Angle Lens on both the main and front cameras!

        • Jared Wolfe

I have an HTC ONE and I love it. You have a 14 day buyers remorse period. Try it out if you don’t like it, return it. I like blinkfeed, boom speakers, Metal premium design. Both are great phones.

        • Ruvim

i actually get 30 days when i purchase through my corporate perks website from home depot, one good thing about working for home depot, and you get free express shipping and 15 percent off your monthly bill. :)

  • mreveryphone

I think I want to trade mine for the one.

  • Impatient Waiter

FINALLY!!!!! is anyone (maybe David) creating a list of stores that have it today? PLEASE one in Arizona, specifically Tempe, Phoenix, or Chandler!

    • Impatient Waiter

translation for “select stores” – absolutely no stores in a 20 mile radius of Phoenix. So frustrated with tmobile right now…AT&T gets the 32 GB model on friday (I believe) and here we are…still waiting for anything… tmobile needs to step up their game, this is just embarrassing..

      • ScottKBerger

See my comment about a recall having to do something with SIM cards. I have the same experience over in Gilbert. It is pathetic. I need to replace a glitching G2X, but I want LTE!

        • Impatient Waiter

I have a glitching MyTouch 4G! The phone will just die and lose the majority of its battery life and the only way to get it to turn back on is if I plug it in to a charger… which is great when I’m at work or out and about! /end sarcasm. Why does tmobile hate us so much?

        • JB

My MT4G had the exact same problem as yours awhile back (Nov 2011)! I found out it was a bad battery. I replaced it and didn’t have any problems since. That might be the problem.

  • Jb

  • http://twitter.com/fightcrazy Vinny

AT&T gets the 64gb exclusive on the HTC One, AT&T also gets the exclusive on the 32gb SGS4 and now AT&T gets the new LG Optimus pro which also has 32gb of int storage including sd card support. WHY, WHY, WHY ??? I have waited for a long time for the SGS4, I refuse to update my (SGS3 32gb model) with a new phone with a pathetic 8.8gb of int storage. After two lousy games that storage will be full and out of luck. T-Mobile has let their long time customers down, they left all the good hardware on the table and AT&T snatched it all the fuck up. I am so pissed off I could knock someone the fu– out.

    • http://www.phonewbie.com/ www.phonewbie.com

Relax bro… relax. I feel your pain.

    • weezy34

TmobileUSA doesn’t want you to have a 32gb version. That way you don’t drown the 24+ bloatware apps with your own apps, that you will actually use.

    • http://www.antmontana.com/ ant

not to tell u what to do but since u got a s3 a s4 isnt needed at all wait til the s5? or sV or whatever its called but i had my sensation for 2years waiting on my upgrade to end (i thought but they changed to the anytime upgrade thing 2 weeks before i can get a full upgrade so the wait was for nothin) anyway it save money and stress just keeping your s3 until somethin new

  • http://profiles.google.com/mrice.hill Mr. Hill

My store still hasn’t even gotten the HTC One. These launches are totally disorganized.

    • Ruvim

so true. i called up a couple stores in my area and one of them had the s4 but not the one, and another one had the htc one but not the s4

that’s the dumbest comment ever i got the att s4 because att took out the s4 a while ago i DON’T have any of the problems u mentioned. a

    • bob90210

A detective screen screen would be awesome if it was similar to detective gadget. But not as awesome if was more like a detective badge superimposed on the screen at times.

Leggy??? Really, what does that mean?

If you languages are not among of the six then you should buy a different phone.

All phones are limited by internal storage size except the iPhone 13 which will have infinite capacity since it will create memory chips on the fly when needed.

      • mdosu

leggy = toned legs, the phone does stair climbers 5 times a week. It’s skirt season soon, can’t wait to see how the phone looks then.

        • bob90210

Oh. That makes sense. But how do I know if the phone is male or female? I just want to make sure so I don’t do anything weird.

        • Guest

smh, you have much to learn about gender equality of mobile devices. All magenta branded phones are like Pat from SNL.
          en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Itispat.jpg

        • mdosu

Bob, you’ll find out soon that you’ll improve your on-base-percentage and batting average if you’re willing to be a switch hitter.

      • mdosu

with iphone 13, phone talks to you!

      • mdosu

it’s his English grammar and spelling that’s detective. Or is it defective?

    • Impatient Waiter

      oh god…let’s see.
1.) such a low rate of defective phones and no one I know has had that problem, for any manufacturer.

2.) better than the phone over heating at the bottom like the HTC One and I have had no over heating issues with the GS4 except when it was 104 degrees outside and I was using the phone with everything turned on with full brightness.

3.) I’m not sure what “leggy” means…perhaps you meant laggy. TouchWiz does slow down the phone a little, but not even a full second more than stock android. I have had 8 different apps running SMOOTHLY with no lag whatsoever.

4.) The battery is amazing, obviously you don’t know anything about it. Phone never gets lower than 24% on auto-brightness, wifi, (sometimes 4G when not on wifi), texting, calling, and playing the Simpsons Tapped Out.

5.) I don’t know a phone that let’s you see crap in the sun, but this is by far the best option I’ve ever seen and I live in Arizona where there is sun 24/7 365 days a year…

6.) I don’t even know why this is a complaint… I’m just guessing there is an app out there that has more language options or samsung will update with more, but all 6 of them work with the S Translate app.

7.) UI has never frozen up on me in the past two weeks I’ve had it, once again, no idea where you’re getting this false information. Maybe if the user has a ton of ram-heavy apps running at the same time?

8.) the speakers are actually really good, for the little amount I use them. Granted they aren’t as good as the HTC One’s front-facing speakers. However, the HTC One has a horrible microphone especially when recording video, the voices come out very muffled, while the GS4 mic picks up sounds crystal clear and loud as well.

9.) you can buy bigger size GS4s, but 8.84 GB should suffice for a lot of smartphone users with the option of expandable memory for pictures, videos, basically everything but apps.

Next time, fact-check your criticisms because it makes you look foolish.

      • mdosu

He will only be satisfied with the iPhone 16….those phones can be read not only in the sun but on the sun.

    • joannaL

I agree with gina I guess her and me are one of the few lucky ones to get a working s4? I also got the att s4 so far no problems ONLY problem im having is thinking about how much I will be paying a month on att lol ; (

      • mdosu

sorry about your luck, we’ll see you on the TMobile side………in 2 years.

        • joannaL

Maybe if tmobile improves coverage in dwtwn LA u will see me in tmobile again . HAD THEm only got 2 bars of edge on the s3 I had from tmobile on my loft in dwtwn la I would walk outside I would get 3 bars of “4G” walk back in my loft I was on edge , now on att I have LTE in my loft solid 5 bars and faster speeds . And also now I have solid 3G outside the city were as tmobile sometimes it got so bad I had “G” I dnt know if it was gsm or gprs?? Because the phone would only display “G”? So yes if tmobile fixes that then ill switch back to them. Oh and dropped calls so far I had NONE on att I know that att had a bad reputation with dropped calls but so far I had NONE all over LA even in weho were people say att is bad so far I had zero problems.

    • kev2684

defective s4 has legs? that’s terrifying.

      • mdosu

no you read it wrong, detective S4 has legs.

  • abe

    • bob90210

You’re missing quite a few punctuation marks. Maybe you lost them while waiting in line?

      • mdosu

likely a result of his dehydration waiting in the hot Florida sun?

        • abe

lmao Samsung keyboard not all that great IMO i use swift key ,i actually used my work computer when i typed this disaster of a comment

        • mdosu

lol. oh shoot, boss man behind you…hit X!!!!

  • ScottKBerger

So I call my tmobile store – the ones that told me that the phone was going to be in today. They tell me that there has been a pushback to the 15th – something about a recall with SIM cards on the phones – to the order of 300000 units. I wish we would get real news. If I need to go buy an iPhone to get LTE, I will. But get the news out!

    • Donovan Shore

      You are an idiot.

    • Prod1702

This is 100% false. We have known now that the S4 would be in all T-Mobile stores by the 15th but only some on the 8th.

      • ScottKBerger

Its what Christina at the T-Mobile store in Gilbert told me. You would have to ask why her why she said that.

I was in the store on the 4th to try it out. They told me at the store that they would have it on the 8th. When I called today to check, thats the story I got

Feel free to call them at (480) 821-0580

    • mdosu

    • bob90210

Phones are getting bigger so you should try a larger sized condom. That should prevent the condom from warping the phone.

      • Bud

        Used condoms

    • Prod1702

I couldn’t help but laugh at this.

  • http://www.facebook.com/randall.lind Randall Lind

When is the 32GB coming? It the only thing I am waiting for.

    • Prod1702

It isn’t from the sound of it, it is only going to be on AT&T.

      • Randall Lind

T-mobile sucks really this could easily have been the best selling phone ever but they screwed that by pissing off android users going cheap.

    • IVAN LEE

Me too, there’s no way im buying the 8gb version(16gb)

  • Joe

Just got the s4 today. Anyone having “Wifi authentication error” issue???

    • JB

You may need to reboot your modem and/or router. Go to your list of wifi network connections on your phone . “Forget” the network you’re on. Reboot your router. Then reboot your phone. Once everything is up and running connect to your network… You should be good to go. If you still get that message, you may need to alternate between forgetting and connection to your desired network until it kicks in…

My GS3 has that problem occasionally (it’s rare, but annoying nonetheless) to this day. It sounds like that same wifi problem has carried over to the GS4.

      • Joe

That’s my college’s WiFi spot. There is no way to rebooting them. My old GS3 is working perfect but S4 keeps giving me that error. Basically I don’t get any signal in college campus, now plus no wifi. that really drives me crazy. Would getting another s4 help this issue anyone???

        • JB

Hmmm… Well that blows! It may have something to do with the wifi power saving toggle. Try this. If it doesn’t work, (or feel unsure about doing this) I would definitely return it and see if a new unit won’t cause wifi dropouts.

          -Open up the phone dialer
-Dial *#0011# (note: the asterix is part of the entry)
-Look for the “ServiceMode” screen and press the left menu button
          -Select “WiFi”
-You should see that the “WiFi Power Save Mode” button is “ON” — switch it to “OFF”
-That’s it. Exit the menu, switch off your WiFi, then switch it back on again.

If your router details are saved and automatically connects, get the S4 to forget or delete the network information. Then reconnect, and re-enter your wifi info.

That’s what worked for me for my S3 and my friend’s S4… But like I said, if that’s not something you’re not comfortable doing, you can exchange it to see if that alleviates your problem.

        • Joe

Thanks for the reply. but I tried that like 5 times. I guess I better exchange it soon. anyway my s4 is working fine with my home router.

    • Bud

Had wifi disconnect problems with my s3. It drove me crazy.

      • JB

My word! Tell me about it!! When they updated to 4.1.1 that solved most of the wifi problems, but I still get that wifi authentication error occasionally. Grrrr!

  • Tizzle404

Bought mine yesterday and I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Camera is awesome!!!!!!!!!

  • Zenmaster

Bought mine yesterday after work. The S4 is a charm, extremely good. I’m loving it!!!

FYI, if you are in Northern California and want to know where to get it, stop by the Oakland Hegenberger T-Mobile store. They have the phone and selling them like crazy.

  • JB

It’s a sad couple days for us folks in Kansas City, as I don’t think any of our Metro locations received any units. LOL

    • BLP

I was just wondering if they had any. Smh

      • JB

Yeah, I was gonna cave and get the 16GB version (since it looks like we’re not going to get the 32 and I’m impatient lol) so I called almost every store in a 20mi radius with no such luck… I’m not sure if we even have corporate owned stores in the area, as all the ones I called I that I thought was one isn’t. booooo! lol

    • Lynne

The one in Liberty is carrying it.

      • JB

Well dab nabbit! Now I’m busy working. I should have expanded the scope of my search! Lol. Thanks! I’ll have to make my way out there tomorrow morning, provided they still have some in stock. (paticularly the white one)

        • BLP

They have it at the Liberty one, but you have to ask them for it.

  • Josue L.

None of the stores in my area have it but I called T-Mobile and was told it would be available nationwide starting tomorrow but I doubt that.

    • Don T.

they told me the same thing about the HTC One…. Liars

  • http://twitter.com/fightcrazy Vinny

Until the 32gb models become available count me out.

  • @pastortomweaver

Not quite true. On May 15th, if you have perfect A+++++ credit, the $150 option is available. Anyone else, the down payment STARTS at $329 and goes up from there

    • Herb

Um, about half of T-Mobile’s credit classes qualify for the $150 down payment. And $329 is the standard other down payment and doesn’t go up at all. A separate deposit might be required, but if you make your payments on time you get that back after 12 months. If you’ve been with T-Mobile for 2 years or more you automatically qualify for the $150 down.

  • ssl48

It is unfortunate that T-Mobile is only selling the 8bg (16gb) version. Why would anyone buy that one – it’s quite overpriced for what you’re actually getting. I’m not going to even consider this version. I guess I’ll wait to see what Google brings out, while I wait for the black HTC One to be released.

    • http://www.facebook.com/randall.lind Randall Lind

On May 15 the 32GB is coming? replay was for Pastor Tom

      • http://tommydaniel.com Tommy Thompson

No. It says May 15th the device will be available in all stores. Nothing about the 32GB model.

  • Ruvim

even with microSD you cant install apps on it, some of us are app wh*res. unless you root it and do that sd swap thing but thats not practical.

  • sino8r

SD swap script works perfectly without issues once you set it up… Visit xda developers
for more info. It hardly takes any effort. I don’t understand how you can be into phones and not know how to use them properly. People are so lazy these days

  • Ruvim

Not every person who is into phones wants to root and mess with their phones like that. Flagship phones should just start with 32gb like the HTC one did so we don’t have to mess around with rooting I mean it is a FLAGSHIP DEVICE. Yeah and what happens if your sd card dies… you are screwed. I actually had my last sd card die in my note 2.

  • Herb

Wanting a phone that works without tinkering doesn’t make someone lazy. The lazy ones are the manufacturers.

  • Herb

I’ve heard of several people with SD problems in their Note 2′s.

  • http://www.facebook.com/randall.lind Randall Lind

I rooted my Exhibit phone worked great until a force update killed my phone. All it did was want to update and it would not go away. Plus between vibrate issues and others with this phone it is not worth the hassle. SD swap or not still some apps will not work right.
