Will The High Price Of The Galaxy S III Stop You From Buying?

Now that the Galaxy S III is officially for sale on T-Mobile, I thought it worth wondering just how much the price is affecting your buying decision, thanks in no small part to your incredible amount of feedback about T-Mobile’s price. T-Mobile is clearly not concerned about the “standard” industry price of $199.99/$249.99 for the 16GB and 32GB varieties. So I have one small question in three parts, will the high price stop you from buying the Galaxy S III or will you buy it at any price OR will you wait till the price drops? How badly do you want it?

I am holding off on purchasing the SG3, till I see the Tmobile Note.  I’d prefer the Note for the screen size.

Also I am holding off, till I can actually touch a live SG3 in a Tmobile store in Los Angeles CA.

  • mreveryphone

Humm I wonder if the note 2 will have all the features the gs3 will have? That would be a killer phone! Guess ill sale my gs3 for that if the new nexus devices don’t offer any groundbreaking new tech

  • Frigadroid

No I don’t mind the price it seems competitive when you take the time to factor in the full contract cost of service. I won’t buy it because it’s manufactured by samsdung & I’m never going to allow them to jip me again like they did with the vibrant. If it lives up to the hype and nothing better comes along before christmas I might consider it for free if I don’t get some sort of google pad first.

    • Brian

Hey, the vibrant was a horrible device in every way. The updated Galaxy S 4G I have now is a much better device. After having 6 vibrant phones replaced I the loyalty department just sent me a GS4G as a replacement. They didn’t tell me they were extending my contract to 2013 but its a moot point now. I have been happy with the GS4G, but I am leaving T-mobile for Verizon at the end of the year. Maybe T-mobile can keep be with better plans and LTE. I doubt it though.

      • Guest

Im very happy with my Vibrant and ICS. Galaxy 4G don’t have ICS.

  • Abe_The_Babe

I passed on a free HTC One S last weekend so I can buy this, I’m not sure it’s worth the $350 difference and I can’t turn back time.

  • John D.

I got my GS3 yesterday afternoon from my near by Walmart.  They had a total of 5.  I was able to get mine for $199+tax+$18 upgrade fee.  No rebate,s no changes to my “granfatthered” 5gb data plan.

  • Digitalfreaknyc

How the hell do you get anyone to pick up at Wal-Mart? I called 5 of them this morning and only one picked up.

    • exeot

The receptionist on my side couldn’t even didn’t know what a phone was, and I struggled just to get the person to understand that I wanted to be transferred to the electronics department.

      • Sofeisty

I went to one store who had one in stock. They threw up all sorts of hoops to purchasing it.  Wouldn’t sell it without TWO pieces of ID, said that TMO system was down and they couldn’t check the price, couldn’t reach the manager to find out what to do, wouldn’t hold the phone until they got their act together.  Screw it, I’m going to Costco and paying more but getting more.

        • Guest

that is exactly what i experience and on top of that printer did not work and they had to call Tmobile guy to do contract manually at the store. It took 2 hrs and they messed up my whole tmobile account

  • tommy

Why is the GS3 any better than the GS2? other than faster and much better screen? Is there any compelling reason for it? Just 2GB rather than 1GB is not compelling, it’s just faster. So????

    • exeot

Really just better screen and some gimmicky features added. It’s obviously better though. Natural cycle of technology. The S2 is still a great phone.

    • Kalel33

       Differences:
-larger, higher resolution display that is brighter and clearer
-the S4 processor is much better than the S3, both in speed in power consumption
      -improved camera system
-much larger battery and improved power conservation in both hardware and software

    • 21stNow

To add to Kalel’s response, new gestures for navigating the phone are available.  Also, Google Wallet is ready to go out of the box and you get 50GB free storage from Dropbox for two years.

    • Grammatica di Polizia

Do you have an SGS II Tommy, or thinking about which one to get, it or the SGS III? Stick with the SGS II. The S2 is a fantastic phone.

Even the SGS II is arguably still too fast for current Android apps. And it loads web pages fast too. My SGS II is so blazing fast I don’t see the compelling need to upgrade. After all, as some have said in here, and I agree, it is just a friggin phone.

  • John

I called customer loyalty about 30 min ago. Talked to her about discounts, anything to lower the price of the S3. Basicly I was told to call back on the 27th since the prices are not in the sytem and sold out. And then they can see what the price is and went on to say that they could give me the lowest price possable plus wave the activation or upgrade fee and free shipping. If its still over $300 I’m going to have to pass I’m afraid. I asked about the $279 price, she said that was for new customers. The upgrade price better be lower. My wife still wants the S2, that price for me would be $199, kinda steep for a nearly year old phone considering the One S is the same price. Eitehr way I’ll find out on the 27th, maybe I get them to lower the price more.

  • Josehadathy

I’m not elligible for a full upgrade until july 24, but I had been told by t-mobile stores before that I could be given a full upgrade price anyway.  But on the 21st I went to the only store here in Atlanta that had the GS3 and was told I couldn’t be given the full upgrade price, which was $279 plus a $50 MIR.  If I have to wait another month for this phone, I might as well wait for the Note 2 or another phone like that right?

    • FatFredJones

Which store is that? Peachtree St, Buckhead?

    • Dumbazz

Early upgrades if I remember correctly have to go through customer service and than a manager at the store has to be onsite to put it through.
My last one I got was early at 19 months. That was after I had been through 4 Mytouch 4g’s though and I think they had some sympathy for me.

    • Dumbazz

They probably didnt want to hassle with this given the phone just came out. Like I commented below (I am in ATL also) you have to call CS and a manager has to be onsite to put it through. I am sure this is that way to limit fraud by employees.

      • souggie

Oh you in the A too?

  • hamr1

I have a SGSII about 6 mos. old. Just updated to ICS.  Its a great device. I guess I’m just saying…..

    • Grammatica di Polizia

There’s reviews that say if you have the SGS II there’s not that much difference between it and the SGS III justifying going through the expense and hassles of an “upgrade.”

Moreover, Samsung is not targeting SGS II owners with this phone. The SGS II is still a high-end phone and quite relevant in today’s market.

      • Ikhtiaralam

I’ve had the SII. There’s a huge UI difference between. It’s much better on the SIII. And this 2GB of RAM really helps that cause.

    • Dumbazz

      Same here!
It really is like a new phone!
My only gripe is that the Chrome Beta has forced closed MANY MANY TIMES a few of which had to be corrected with a BATTERY PULL!
It does freeze up more than it did with GB and yes LOL I did a factory reset already.

  • jelliottz

My Galaxy Nexus is what’s keeping me from buying the GS3. While the S4 processor would be , the TI Omap is more than capable, especially when you run custom software. I actually run my phone down locked at 1ghz even though I can go up to 1.5ghz. No lag, no stutter, smooth as can be.

If my screen wasn’t already nearly identical it would be tempting. And from any other phone in the TMO lineup (possibly excluding the One S), I would upgrade.

    • Dumbazz

At only $399 OUTRIGHT no contract on the Google Play Store….that is a GREAT DEAL!
I really hope that we see more of this from Google and that will force the carriers to lower the full price on phones!
Maybe that is why tmobile has commented about getting away from subsidized phones!
      Better for the consumer!

  • Ramiro

I bought mine for $198 at walmart, no mail in rebate crap!

    • Js

do u know what the retail price of it was

      • Ikhtiaralam

        It’s 598 there.

  • jhoff909

Interesting – just figured out the 50g dropbox deal is you get 50g free for the next 24 months…  good way to suck you in.

    • Philip_Humm

      LOL!
      Ya it’s a conspiracy!

  • Traviedwards

FYI- costco will be lowering prices on the 26th, if you already bought your from they will price match (90) from your purchase

Lowering to what?  I know it’s $249.00 now but what will the lower price be???

  • http://twitter.com/UrDaycare Ur Daycare Locator

Any luck finding one in Oklahoma city anyone?

  • Mark

I got the HTC One S in April during the “trade in your old phone for a $100 rebate” promotion; no interest in paying full freight for something else now that my upgrade’s done… I’ll revisit in 24 months.  Meanwhile, my S/O’s been on the same Samsung feature phone for 4 years, so I have no immediate cause to complain about Samsung.

    • Grammatica di Polizia

LOL your significant other has been using the same feature phone for 4 years. I take it a high end handset is not a priority.

Not me, I have been giving the GF my “hand-me-downs” for years. E.g., she gets the Samsung Galaxy S II while I buy the SGS III, albeit this time around I am in no hurry to buy the SGS III.

While it is fun to partake in all the excitement, I now like to wait for things to cool down. I am looking at the Note anyway. The large display is very appealing to me.

      • Mark

LOL… no, a high-end handset isn’t a priority; she’d be more prone to be angry at me if I wanted to start spending money on a data plan for her than she would be to want the latest phone.  Not because the money’s an issue, either… she’s just frugal and only wants a phone for talking and some texting.

  • Exibitman

Does anyone no how much Gsll is going drop to.?

    • Dumbazz

I am sure you will see it regularly for $99 but who knows…retailers may still try and get more now that is has ICS…..
Look for a used one on Craigslist?
The Galaxy Nexus is also available via google play for $399 OUTRIGHT no contract.

  • GUEST

Most best buys don’t have Tmobile phones in stock but some have them

  • smiley47

I hear all this talk about the Note 2. Has anyone read that T-Mobile is going to offer it or are you all talking about running off to another carrier to get the Note or buy one unlocked?  Details please.

    • Dumbazz

Lets look at what happened with the original Galaxy sII….
When it came to TMO it was the fastest of the 2 others that went to ATT and Sprint.
People are saying that the Note will be the exact same as the one that landed on ATT but who knows maybe we will get a surprise and it will pack the better S4 processor and maybe 2 gigs ram?
      Better screen?

  • Mcgarner08

I had no problem paying the upgrade price until i heard everyone is calling and getting it for less. I upgraded at reg. Price (329/50 mir) only to have my order cancelled for a declined card. Called customer care and when they gave me the last 4 digits of my card number it wasnt even for the card i used. (that struck me as immediate bs) To make matters worse, it made my upgrade date go to 12/13/2013 and cust care said they cant override it unless i order through them next thurs. Also, when i asked about walmart and costco pricing they refused to price match. So now im stuck paying the higher cost and waiting til next week because they apparrently cant reset my upgrade date without placing an order. It all sounds shady to me, and im not happy. I will say that the rep i spoke with was very polite, but the situation sounds like bs to me.

    • Dumbazz

      LOL!
      Shady?!
OBVIOUSLY you either entered the wrong card number OR didnt have the funds!

As for your tin foil hat regarding tmobiles resellers it isnt all uncommon for a company to NOT PRICE MATCH a reseller.
This may require a little thinking on your part but lets try…..
If TMOBILE price matched that would take away business from re sellers!
It’s funny because I dont see anyone on here thanking tmobile for having sooo many resellers where you can get the phone FOR LESS!
It’s all some vast delusional conspiracy theory.
Some of you SERIOUSLY need medication to calm your delusional thought processes.

      • Mcgarner08

No, really the digits read back to me were not even close to my card number, seeing as it ends in 4 zeros, my card is pretty easy to recognise and remember. Its fine that customer care cannot price match, my issue is, that tmo will not reset my upgrade date without placing my order through them. I know this has happened to people before, and that cc can reset the date without a purchase. Then i would be free to take my cheap delusional ass and foil hat and go upgrade at a lesser cost at a big box store.

        • Anthony R

its not a choice they have, there are system proticols they have to follow, if you typed the wrong number it’s the system holding you back not the rep.  you can call back and hopefully the next rep will know how to reverse the upgrade but it still takes time to resolve

        • http://www.facebook.com/jodysbeard Jody Beard

This can happen.  Likely, they processed your upgrade before your payment.  You can’t reverse an upgrade without returning the equipment.  You were never provided equipment so therefor you cannot return it.  When they process your order when you call in they will have to override your upgrade, you could also do this in a T-Mobile store, not a reseller.  The T-Mobile store will call customer care to ensure the upgrade was never processed.  Resellers don’t have that authority.

      • http://www.facebook.com/jodysbeard Jody Beard

Dumbazz you are exactly what your name entails!  First, it IS common for a company to price match a reseller, I would know, I worked for T-Mobile for 3 years.   Secondly, resellers are provided as a convenience, not direct competition.  That may be hard for you to understand, considering your ignorance.  Also, all major 4 cell phone providers have resellers.  So what would the purpose be of thanking T-Mobile when that service is provided amongst all carriers.

        • http://www.facebook.com/jodysbeard Jody Beard

Also, the reasoning the resellers provide products at lower costs it compete with the other carriers alongside them.  Why one can argue T-Mobile cost of ownership is lower in the long run and they are correct.  Most consumers only consider the up front costs when purchasing.  Consumer are all about the NOW.  When you have an alike phone on 3 carriers and T-Mobile’s is priced the highest, T-Mobile will lose that sale.  When you go to the T-Mobile website or into a T-Mobile store you don’t see the prices of the other carriers providing the same exact phones.  It’s all a mind game.  9 times out of 10, when a customer would state they are able to get the phone at a lower price elsewhere, we would compensate for the difference somehow to get the sale.  Normally dependent on how the consumer approches us with the information.  Provided they are polite versus rude and arrogant we will do what we can to satisfy them.

        • Dumbazz

So you were directly involved in the negotiations between tmobile and the resellers??
Somehow I doubt it and “I should now i worked there for 3 years” isnt proof you actually know.
How long ago did you work there?
Again its not at all uncommon for companies to protect their resellers.

        • http://www.facebook.com/jodysbeard Jody Beard

I was not directly involved with negotiations.  However, we are informed as to what actions we can take when making sales.  I was allotted a 100 credit limit per customer, per transaction.  Managers were allotted 250.  We would do what could, with what we are allowed to make the sale in our store. Why you ask? PERSONAL GAIN.  I’m not going to let money walk right out the door and go elsewhere.  Like I said previously.  It is provided as a convenience, not direct competition.  That was the exact words that was told to me by my supervisors and district managers.

        • Dumbazz

Ok after seeing your Facebook profile it is PAINFULLY OBVIOUS you weren’t involved at all in the negotiations between tmobile and the resellers so you really aren’t speaking from any real position of authority.

      • Bauer

    LMAO!
After all the crybabies complaining about price and we have MULTIPLE resellers selling it at $199!
This is called TMOBILE protecting their resellers by not selling it at the same price.
Pissed that tmobile is selling it at a high price?
BOO HOO HOO take 5 minutes and go to Walmart, Costco, Best Buy, Target, etc!

Do some of you retards go and buy a car and yell and scream at the dealership because another dealership has it at a lower cost? Its comedy gold though watching some of you take AN INANIMATE OBJECT SO PERSONALLY!

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/GNEZGHWNE4EMGIBST7WYQ3P2RA Bob J

This guy just doesn’t get it. Since Tmo has it priced so high the reseller has it priced where Tmo should have priced it. I can get the S3 through Amazon for $149.99 with Att. or $189.99 through wirefly for sprint.

      • Dumbazz

You sort of just proved my point didn’t you?
So they are selling it for even less than what you can get it for at at&t it’s sort of what I am saying.
Also at&t has a much much larger customer base therefore they can negotiate lower pricing with Samsung.

    • Grammatica di Polizia

Hmm… you say “we have multiple resellers…” Does this mean you are a T-Mobile employee? That would be about right, another T-Mobile employee on a public website exhibiting hostility and condescension toward its customers. (And T-Mobile wants to blame the massive loss of customers (510,000+ in Q1 2012) on everything but people like you.)

Actually, it is comedy gold reading your comment and seeing YOU get so upset about this blog and your customers, to the point where you call people “crybabies” and “retards.”

      Way to represent T-Mobile.

Sidenote: You say “Its (sic) comedy gold though watching some of you take AN INANIMATE OBJECT SO PERSONALLY!” Uh, isn’t the while point of T-Mobile being in business and selling its products that it wants people to take THIS inanimate object so personal. AFAIK all the carriers and manufacturers market their products and services based on being cool and projecting an image. In other words, by taking this inanimate object personally.

To be sure, in 2007 when the iPhone debuted people camping outside Apple stores and media worldwide, including the news, covered the event, that was all NOT because people needed a phone to make calls (just like the rich don’t buy a Rolex to tell what time it is). It was because since the beginning of time man has taken inanimate objects personally.

This concept is carved in stone, just as much as the reality that people who can’t afford those inanimate objects will deride and insult.

      • blahblahblahblahblahblah

I’m not the above poster but I guarantee you are just like this customer …..

Got the 16GB blue. Total cost $80 including upgrade cost and tax…
Still in box bcoz I dont have a case and screen protector. Feels like a gem so don’t wanna open. Super light and screen is excellent. LED is a plus but looks like you cant turn on only for SMS or missed calls only. Might light up for emails too. Wanted white but didnt have choice. Paid $211 with tax at Walmart but my final cost will be 80. You are smart if you guessed right…
Hint: Been with tmobile for 12 years…

Last time I renewed, retention offered me $250 “toward a new phone”.  It showed up as a $250 credit on my bill, I think, the 2nd billing cycle after I renewed.

I renewed through customer service (retention) but bought phones 2 days later (in store) during a “zero down” after MIR sale.  I was concerned that I wouldn’t qualify for the phone sale because of the freshly renewed contract but it all worked out.

  • Abe_The_Babe

Just called Costco, they don’t have them in stock at the moment but they are selling it for $249.99. I then called Walmart, they have them in stock but can’t sell them till’ Monday, but they are selling it for $199.99 and you only pay tax on that, not full retail. That’s a savings of $150-$200 versus buying it from the T-Mobile store. Pays to shop around.

  • Wafflesonmybody

Does anyone know when Costco or Walmart stores will be getting the phone in white?

Hi can someone please tell me if tmobile will run the free special of galaxy II again? Our contract with sprint ends on September 2012 and we didn’t make a solid decision till now and now I feel like they will probably not run that special again.

    • WW

They’ve been having various free or free after MIR or zero down after MIR on and off (mostly for holidays) for at least the last year or so.  These sales have typically included all smartphones.

It seems highly likely that they’ll continue to have these sales.  In Sep, maybe a Labor Day sale.

Blah, blah, blah. I bought the phone on thursday for close to $400 after taxes and the $18 upgrade fee T-mobile hits you for. I know if I was willing to wait 2 months I could probably get it for $100. But this is the first phone T-mobile is carrying that is what I want and not a compromise. I figured I should show them how eager I am to buy this kind of phone by going out to the store and getting it at the launch price.

I’m sorry your right, I am a pathetic loser and the reason I’m so mean is because my mommy left when I was 5 and I have a small 2 inch wee wee. No woman wants to play with me because I’m 400 pounds.  I’m sorry for all the mean things I have said.

No need to echo on a blog what your lawyer wrote on a Post-It note, your plea for mercy at the upcoming sentencing for your flashing ? walking into T-Mobile stores.

        • Knock 1092

          Can anyone translate the above?

        • Knock 1092

Converse? Like how you lied about having some inside knowledge of high level TMO negotiations when in fact you were some low level CS rep who couldn’t cut it?

      • in2android

No, no, no, Bud… Your the pathetic one. Why do you care what any of us do with our money? You sound very childish. I will pay whatever price I want for whatever I want. I bet it really makes you sick that I paid 370 & I probably won’t even mess with the MIR, because I think their too much hassle? Lol.. I went in the store thinking it would cost me 700 since I didn’t even know one of my 4 lines had an upgrade? I bet it makes you even more sick that I’m considering buying another one, at full price, for my eight year old son because he’s begging me for one for getting accepted into an advanced learning program at school? I think you are holding onto some serious jealousy and resentments!

    • Dumbazz

post loud and proud sorry some of the losers here have to cut you down because they cannot afford it

  • Au132

Has anyone been able to find it at a walmart in the south? I can find it ANYWHERE!!

    • WW

Mall of GA Walmart didn’t have it at 21:00 on Jun 23.

      • Au123

Jacksonville, Fl walmart had it but thats 4 hours away from me. I think I’m just gonna have to wait to mid week when it’s everywhere.

  • CactoesGel

I’m in SoCal. Anyone know where I can get this phone? Or is it completely sold out?

    • Abe_The_Babe

Everywhere I called is sold out. Walmart says they have it but can’t sell it until Monday.

  • DRU719

I’m going to hold off until I can get it for what the other carriers are charging.  I’ve checked a few of the Walmarts in the area with no luck.  While I do like the fact that T-mobile was the first to get the phone, I am not happy that they are charging so much more than the other carriers.  Yes, I know T-Mobile is cheaper in the long run, blah blah blah, but it just feels like a slap in the face. Yes, I can afford the phone, its just about principle to me.  Anyway, can someone tell me what the difference is between upgrading through T-Mobile and a reseller like Walmart?

    • Knock 1092

Stop your crying and go to one of the resellers who are selling it for less

      • DRU719

If I could find one, I would.

with tmobile its not personal its business. look at their model, after a failed merger and trying to launch 4g lte, release 10 no less at that. revenues from contracts are slipping, low cost plans are one of their few power plays, BUT in the long run these “cuts” in cost still have to be paid for hence the higher price tag on select phones i believe standard price for tmobile  will drop again as we get into 2013 and tmobiles financial system stabilizes. personally im on the fence while it would be a nice phone to develop for, as a note user and former s2 and vibrant owner i
      A. don’t see s3 as a big enough upgrade
      B. the note is beautiful
C.i would rather wait for the note 2 (god i want a lte exynos)

Bottom line s3 is a great phone all in all. if you want to support tmobile new marketing strategy buy from them, and if u just want it for the cheapest price online retailers usually carry a lower price if not at launch a few weeks later.

      • DRU719

        LTE Exynos or a Quad-Core S4

        • killi da prince

definitely want lte quad-core exynos but after spending a little time with the dual-core s4 packing one x, i can’t count out the quad-core version. more than just gpu difference though i would much have soc unity. in my opinion one of the few drawbacks of the galaxy line is processor fragmentation.

  • DRU719

Also, is there anyone in the Colorado Springs area that has found one at a Walmart?

  • Tmo_Fan

I cnt believe the price man… I will wait and see otherwise another phone I guess

  • http://twitter.com/thebulletnever ray

All the galaxy sIII will have the same body form across the carriers right? i want to get a case and since my bro can get a discount on accessories from ATT, it would be good to just get one from there.

  • John

I still can’t understand. I looked at Costco’s website again, No T-Mobile S3. But they have At&T, Sprint,Verizon. Plus all are $199. A&T, Sprint and Verizon all have $25 cash back rebate and Free Activation, Shipping & Accessories bonus pack. Where is the love for T-Mobile??

Got mine at Costco today for $389 + tax with value plan. No activation fee. Feel like I stole something. Phone is awesome but reception is a little weak inside my house. Outside ok. I would advise all to go to call your local Costco and buy there.

      • Edy6401

why did you pay $389 on value plan. isn’t supposed to be $229?

  • Kevinmarchibald

Nope, worth the cost to me, especially with the 2GB of RAM, and the fact that the other US carriers are pretty much getting the same hardware, so more optimistic about timely updates from Samsung/T-Mobile.

Stopped by my Redwood City T-Mobile on Saturday to see if I could get a white one, and they were sold out. I got put on a waiting list. The sales rep said they only got a handful. He said the SF store got like 90 of them, the Sunnyvale store got a few, and that their store was one of the few outside of those two in the Bay area that got any supply. Glad I didn’t spend any time hunting down one on launch day. He thought they might get more in on the 25th or 26th, but more likely the 27th. He also thought the white one was better looking, didn’t care for the blue one.

Weird that there wasn’t any promo stuff around. There was a Galaxy S 2 kiosk and a One S kiosk, though.

  • Winski

You couldn’t pay me $1000 to take it!!!

    • WW

      Don’t worry, no one will.

      • in2android

NO! I want too! Please let me pay him 1000 to take mine! (I smell a little resentment?)

  • tommy

S3 == bigger long lasting battery, bigger easy to read and use screen, 2GB no app worries at all I’d imagine. Wow now HTC match it! TMO make some dough.

    • Going_home

HTC bested the GSIII with the One S

      • Abe_The_Babe

What are you talking about, you can’t compare the One S to the GSIII.

        • oakley444

Actually you can and , despite what I thought would happen, the S pretty much schools the GS3 on all benchmarks despite the 2 gigs of ram. Now the sd card thing sucks and kinda cripples the S.

        • http://twitter.com/TKfromCLE Terry Kessler

The lack of SD card and the inability to swap out batteries are enough of a turn off to keep me away from any of the HTC One line phones.

        • in2android

The one s probably would win on the benchmarks, as it’s the same cpu pushing less pixels & and probably better battery life. The one s is a great phone, but it depends on which aspects are more important to you as an individual. I myself don’t care which is faster or what benchmark is higher, I look for larger screen w/ good resolution & a cpu that opens apps quickly. I need a browser that’s smooth & fast. Both phones are fantastic, but for me the screen resolution and size made my decision. I love the gs3, and I’m going to jump in on the note also, but I’ll give it about a month and ppl will be selling it just as they did on att because the screen size becomes a little too much for them. If I can get it for 500 or less, then I’ll be on it. I almost got the one s, but I knew I wanted the note and the gs3, that’s already hard enough to explain to the wife. Lol. One S is an amazing phone though.

        • Abe_The_Babe

It’s not about benchmarks, I’m sure that both are very smooth phones. The Galaxy S3 has a whole slew of things going for it, such as a bigger screen, micro sd slot, removable battery and lot’s of software feature that I think are cool. Put all that together and you have a phone that you can’t compare to the One S. For people who don’t mind a smaller screen, etc. it’s a great device.

  • Samsucks

The fifth option will be “Note, here I come” :)

  • Sofeisty

It’s only a high price if you  don’t do your research and pay it  or if you  can’t afford it. I found one at Walmart yesterday but they were giving me all sorts of run around so I left there and took a chance on Costco.  They had two left.  I didn’t like paying more but for $50 more the benefits are worth it. You get 90 days to return the phone (keeping contract) plus the accessory kit.   Plus at Costco you didn’t have their lone uninformed electronics person lying through his teeth or being uninformed about the phone while also attempting to help Walmart shopper idiot on line 2.  The Costco guy had to jump through hoops to keep my existing plan
(TMO wanted to change my plan or go to a TMO store to keep my existing
one) but FINALLY got the deal done.

Ended up keeping my family 1000 for $49.99,
Preferred android $20 , Free My Faves,  Unlimited family text for $10,
and TMO at home for $10.  I pay for $10 for one extra line, $40 for
additional Preferred android web on the other two phones plus unlimited
mobile to mobile for $20 on two phones.  Unlimited text, data, and close
to unlimited calling for three smartphones plus my home phone.  $150
plus tax.  I think it’s a steal and that is why I have been with TMO for
    12 years!

    • rwc1792

Since  you have 90 days to return it, I wonder if it were to drop in price during that time, if Costco would just give you a partial refund?

  • Trouble5om

Just got mine from Wal-Mart last night for $213.35 otd.

  • sdk4

If I want to use a corporate discount, do I need to go to a actual T-Mobile store or can I go to Wal-Mart for the cheaper price?

    • WW

From my experience, there’s no discount on phones unless maybe if you’re a first time TMo customer.

They usually waive the activation fee and you get a 15%-18% discount on your service (again, not the phone).

If Walmart won’t waive the activation fee, you could probably have customer service credit it for you.  You could buy your phone (assuming I’m right about the “no corporate discount on devices”) at Walmart then activate the discount by calling customer service.

      • sdk4

Thanks, the discount my company offers is for somewhere around the 15% range and no activation fee. I figured if I could get the phone for $199 with T-Mobile through Wal-Mart instead of the $300+ in the regular store and still get the discount each month then that would be the smart thing to do.

  • Jamieglenn

Got it at Costco on Friday. $264 out the door for blue16GBP
