T-Mobile Holding President’s Day Loyalty Offer This Weekend?

Time and time again we hear that T-Mobile doesn’t do enough for its “loyal” customers which make to know that a select group of loyal customers will find themselves  with a really great T-Mobile offer this weekend. T-Mobile’s looking to continue their efforts to drive down churn by rewarding customer loyalty with a President’s Day Weekend Loyal Customer Offer. Over President’s Day Weekend (February 18-20), T-Mobile will hold a special three-day sale for preselected loyal classic/legacy contract customers. Customer mailers will go out to close to 440,000 customers inviting them to their local T-Mobile retail store or branded store for a free device after a mail-in rebate.

Eligibility:

  • Offer is available for preselected Classic/Legacy Contract customers who present the Customer Mailer in-store or appear as eligible in the QuikView Targeted Offers Tool.
  • Selection criteria were based on various factors; qualified customers can be identified in QuikView targeted offers and CIHU.
  • More than the 440,000 customers who receive the Customer Mailer will show as qualified; however, RSAs should only proactively offer to customers who present the Customer Mailer or appear as eligible for the offer in QuikView Targeted Offers Tool.

We’re a little short on details about how customers are being targeted for this promotion, but we assume it could be a matter of service tenure, contract tenure, monthly billing level, etc. That’s all my hypothesis though.

This story is still developing I’ll update it as soon as I know more.

I would rather have a discount on my plan like they did years ago.

    • http://benpike.net/ Ben Pike

…you mean like the Value Plan.

  • http://twitter.com/SParKlngCyaNide SparklingCyanide

I’ll wait for the new phones to come, pass.

    • Littlesis1774

I think I will wait until June to make my decision. I am still hoping for T-mobile iphone but if T-mobile don’t get it then I will make a decision whether or not to go Verizon. Sure Verizon maybe more expansive but at least it is better coverage and better phones

  • bob

how is this different from the last sale?? not feeling it

    • Anonymous

It was for new customers or those with contracts that were up. It also required you to upgrade to a Value or an Unlimited Classic plan. This allows you to keep your old plan and lets you upgrade earlier than normal.

Also, the last sale included tablets.

      • Chrisroberts7577

It says you have to be on a qualifying value or classic plan, so as long as you have those you can keep your plan.

  • mike99

In before..aw hell to late already, the people that you can’t please already chiming in..someday I will be first before these clowns.

    • riderdiechic

      I totally agree

  • AC

Been with Tmobile since 1998.  Granted they weren’t Tmobile yet (Powertel –> Voicestream –> Tmobile).  Wonder if I’ll be getting a call…

  • Anonymous

I wonder if this will allow the extension of legacy plans without the need to upgrade to a higher priced current classic plan.

    • Vim

The “Being a Loyal Customer” ad graphic says you can keep your current plan if you choose.

      • Chrisroberts7577

BUT…you have to be on a qualifying classic or value plan.

        • Anonymous

          No…. it says right there……………

    • Abroomha

Looks like you have to get a fancier data plan, the fancier the phone. I personally hate this tactic (at&t uses it too) since I don’t need a heavy data plan, I use WiFi for 90% of my internet usage.

      • Anonymous

         A-freakin-men!

        • Anonymous

you can ditch the higher data plan as soon as the rebate comes in the mail and go down to 2 gigs

  • Euched

It is too bad that there are no amazing phones to upgrade to from my G2X….

    • Anonymous

no reason to, have you tried ICS? It makes the G2x feel like a new phone basically… enough to hold you over untill the quad core phones come out

      • Dominique

It’s not that big of a deal.  I have ICS on my Mytouch 4G and it’s nice but it’s not that much better than CM7 2.3.7.  They could probably put ICS on their G2X too, which would continue their point.

        • Anonymous

If you had a G2x you would understand. I was desperate to get a new phone too and the G2x is newer than your mytouch, then we got ICS and it was like a breath of fresh air…just saying.

        • Anonymous

wait… you have ics on your g2x? HOW? I WANT IT

  • CeeFu

Hmm, will be interesting to see if I get a call/postcard.

  • Ian Glenn

like like like.. Wife and I have been with T-Mo since ’01… Hopefully we get targeted. We’re due for some new phone love… :)

  • Anonymous

Well, one of the mailers says “upgrade up to 4 months sooner than usual” That’s not me, unfortunately. I’m 9 months out on one line and 12 on the other. Maybe they’ll do this again in about 5 months.

  • Sunday

I’ve been with Tmo since 2002, but i’ve been off contract since March 2011. I guess I’m not eligible even though I am a loyal customer.

    • Anonymous

Um, you should be eligible for it, as well as the one from this past weekend. Being off contract only means you have exceeded your last 2 year contract. You’re still getting the same contract rate, and you can renew it for another 2 years. You’re just committing to another 2 years.

      • Chrisroberts7577

Nope, he would have to be on a value or classic plan to be eligible.

        • Vim

Incorrect. The great thing about this sale is that it applies to legacy/grandfathered plans too as long as the data plan minimum is met. You really should spend a little more time reading the article first before spending so much time giving people bad advice.

        • Chrisroberts7577

You should really spend some time reading the ad rather then skimming the article. The ad clearly says “New two year agreement on a qualifying Classic plan”.
You assumed that because it said you can keep your current plan it meant that it included all plans.  Nope, you can keep your current plan as long as you already have a classic plan.

        • READ

“Offer is available for preselected Classic/Legacy Contract”
i swear AT&T and Metro PCS hire these people to post on here.

        • riderdiechic

           I agree with you totally

    • Sunday

I’m not only off contract, I have an old plan $49.99 2 lines 500 minutes. Hoestly, we don’t even use the 500 minutes. We use more messages. I added a data plan 3 yrs ago which was $35.00 for unlimited Messages and  REAL UNLIMITED DATA. All I really want to do is get a new phone. I want to keep my existing plan. i don’t think they’ll let me do that. My feeling is that they wish all the people that have these OLD PLANS would just go away. Afterall, they are trying so hard to entice us off our wonderful plans and put us on the plans that they are pushing now,

      • James

I still have my true unlimited data plan which is $35. I know I can switch to a cheaper data plan…but knowing I am trully unlimited (not having to worry about being throttled is great) keeps me to not worry when I want to tether and go on netflix for example. I have never gone past 2gb in my last 3 months..but it feels good to be unlimited. I hope when I change phones in the summer they wont make me change that data plan.
Im still rocking the awesome g2

        • Sunday

They will want you off this plan. Trust me, they want me off that plan. Your only recourse is to ask to speak to a supervisor. The T-mobile supervisor I spoke to was going to allow me to keep the plan, but what I had to do was so crazy and I really didn’t trust them, BUT what I do know is that a CS Rep can OVER RIDE the system if they want to, the only thing is that they can’t do certain things unless you  do certain things. It became so complicated just to change my phone and keep my plan that I gave up for now. I’m considering changing carriers. I know, I know ,this is the cheapest carrier, but they are making things so complicated for me to keep what I have, that I am truly disgusted with them. I said all I want is a new phone, we’re not curing cancer here…

      • TMOSince2003

If you want to keep your plan, buy a phone on Ebay. Just a suggestion, it’s what I do myself.

      • Anonymous

Try Target,or whatever big box store is near you.

So I been a loyal T-Mobile customer since it was VoiceStream… but since I’m under contract till October – November… I’m pretty sure I don’t count. I’m just saying… How much more loyal can I be T-Mobile?

    • Anonymous

well you signed the dotted line

  • http://pernecky.blogspot.com Mike

This is awesome if I qualify, I get my upgrade tomorrow and wife gets hers in May, so according to that one mailer she should get it as well.  Gooooood stuff, come on T-Mo!  Qualify me!

  • Derrick227

i already upgraded last october…….they should have where they give a discount on your damn plan…..hell take $20 off my bill and i will be a happy camper

  • http://twitter.com/mlococo Michael Lococo

Unfortunately T-Mobile doesn’t have any decent phones!!!

    • http://pernecky.blogspot.com Mike

      Troll.

    • HeLLo

Unfortunately T-Mobile has trolls like you!!!

      • http://twitter.com/Hiding_Trouble HidingTrouble

Actually I kinda agree with Michael here if you don’t want an Android phone. I had a MyTouch 3g and a G2 and I’m done. I’m never buying another Android phone again. So what does that leave me with? 2 so so Windows phones while AT&T is getting the Lumia 900. Trust me I would LOVE to see better Windows phones or even the iPhone on T-Mobile

        • monkeybdb

so because you picked two of the bad android phones your done? (G2 isnt that bad.) also mytouch 3g was, if i remember correctly only the second android phone on Tmo…give it a break windows 95 kinda sucked too…

        • http://twitter.com/Hiding_Trouble HidingTrouble

How many phones do you suggest I go thru, 3….4 …..? How many times should I have to pull the battery on my G2 because the screen won’t turn on? How many times should I have to mess with network settings just to get gmail to send an email that has been stuck sending for over an hour(that has happened on both phones on wifi and mobile network) How many times should I have to FC gtalk and the messaging service just to get IMs flowing again(which btw when that happpens it causes me not to get IMs in gtalk on gmail webpage)… I could go on but how many times would you suggest I put up with that?

        • 30014

You just got a bad device. I’ve had my g2 since it launched and haven’t had any issues. Don’t blame the software because of bad hardware.

        • http://twitter.com/Hiding_Trouble HidingTrouble

So the gmail issue that has affected both phones it a hardware issue? and the screen not turning on has also been an issue on my wife’s g2 and my mother’s MyTouch 4g slide. Now granted those are all htc phones so 1 could make the argument…..

        • Anonymous

I agree with you Hiding.  I really like Tmobile (well, the old Tmobile anyway), but it their phone selection is a disappointment.  I’m happy with my Windows phone, but wish I could upgrade to an Iphone in the future.

        • Frigadroid

I have the gmail issue on my vibrant sometimes. I thought it was because of the tmobile throttling but I haven’t investigated it. I feel that android as most google products start out as a great idea but as they evolve become a work in progress.

        • Anonymous

Do your research before you buy a phone. Don’t buy a lemon.

        • http://twitter.com/Hiding_Trouble HidingTrouble

I did do my research and nothing suggested that the G2 was a lemon in fact most people praised it for being stock Android. The only negative thing said about it was the Z hinge being flimsy.

        • Vim

Windows Phone was late to market and is still getting up off of the ground.  Sprint’s WP offerings are even slimmer than T-Mobile’s, and Verizon has no WP phones at all.  The Lumia 800 was so overpriced that all 4 carriers passed on it, while AT&T paid extra to make the more competitively priced Lumia 900 exclusive.   Given that the 900 hasn’t been released yet for AT&T, it’s hard to argue that T-Mobile is behind on Windows Phones. Even in the android world it’s pretty common for the carriers to leap frog each other as new phones come out.

  • Keoni1022

both my phones are eligible for full upgrade in July…would i be eligbile and receive the flier in the mail?

    • Anonymous

nobody knows what they use to determine who gets the fliers. Right now you’re eligible for early upgrade, I’m too with full discounts in October.

I’d wait though new phones are to be announced at Mobile World Congress Feb 29. Tmo is releasing the Blaze. Prices for the GSII and Amaze will go down in the next few months as they clear stock and make way for new gadgets

  • nono

why is it that this stuff always happens when i am not even close to being eligible god come on

  • Vim

This is exactly the type of sale T-Mobile has needed to lower churn among its most profitable post-paid customers.  It’s a pity they didn’t do one of these during Black Friday.  I heavily suspect 4th quarter churn in the US will be quite high in Deutsche Telekom’s still be released quarterly earnings report, and that this sale is an attempt to address that churn.

  • Anonymous

They need to offer these free upgrades with grandfather plans. Looks like they are only targeting Classic plan and Value plan customers.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VGQMRQOQYPZHFOGRIZ53F646KU Not ice_fusion.

Probably more the case of them not giving offers to grandfathered customers in an attempt to get them to leave their plan.

  • Thomas Brezinski

I might be insulted if I do not get one.  However isn’t this the exact same deal I could have gotten last weekend on the Valentines sale?

  • JBLMOBILEG1

I really hope I can upgrade early and keep my current plan. Although I don’t think I am eligible until September… but if they let me upgrade early I would be more than happy to sign another 2 year agreement. I’ve been with them since 2004 so hopefully that qualities me.

    • Chrisroberts7577

It says you have to go on a qualifying value or classic plan so I doubt you can keep yours.

      • Anonymous

It says “or keep your same plan.” Troll.

        • Chrisroberts7577

It also says “New 2-year agreement on a qualifying Classic plan required.”
So yes, you can keep your current plan as long as it’s  a Classic plan.

Soooo…maybe you should read the entire ad before jumping on someone and calling them a troll.

          Thanks!

        • Anonymous

Sorry you don’t understand…. but keeping your current plan means not a new plan. A classic plan is a plan where you get a discount, so em+ can’t keep their same plan and get a discount. They need to go to a qualifying plan. Sheesh. Its not that hard.

        • Chrisroberts7577

But this deal is all about getting a discounted phone early.  And like you said, to get the discount you must be on a Classic plan, therefore to participate in this sale you must be on a Classic plan by the time you leave the store.

        • Anonymous

……. no. Stop trying to confuse people. You can keep your grandfathered plan

      • JBLMOBILEG1

The sad thing is… most loyal customers who’ve been with Tmobile long enough might have better rate plans than both the classic or value. So this whole possible offer sounds to me like it’s not much of an offer at all. Just letting one’s upgrade a little early for already switching or changing their plans. One added note I just came back from my dad’s who is a senior citizen. He’s been with Tmobile for probably close to 10 years and he took advantage of the recent Valentines Day Sale because he needed a new phone. Long story short whatever customer service rep he spoke with a few months back changed his Unlimited loyalty plan to a Value plan after not really explaining to him how it works. So this past week he was surprised when I told him that he does get the $224 dollars back with a mail in rebate but he also will be paying off $400 in $20 installments for the next 22 months. It’s sad that they took advantage of a senior citizen. This plan change also had to be during the At&t talks.

        • Anonymous

I would snail mail a letter to the head of customer relations by certifiably mail.
Tell them what they did to your dad,not sure if it’s the same person in change,
name of the person is Armando Ludovici. That what I did 2010,(didnot know who it was,)I just mail my complaint to the head of customer service. This is a sidenote, why doesn’t Tm,have senior plan like at&t,and verizon have? $29.99
amonth,200 mins. I am pretty sure Sprint have something for them too.(But not sure if they do).

  • Chrisroberts7577

How is this any different than the valentines day sale?  If you have a classic/value plan there is a good chance you are a new customer, those plans have only been around 8 months or so.  So this deal is for ‘loyal’ customers who have changed their plan to value or classic in the last 8 months.

    • Anonymous

Really?? Did you not read any of what was posted??? “OR KEEP YOUR CURRENT PLAN” reading comprehension ftl

  • Dbarker1965

I just called them to see if I was loyal after 9 1/2 years, rep said she didn’t see anything but to check back this weekend when the system updates but she did change 2 of my phones data plans to save me $20 a month and still have 5g with tethering…Feeling a little love…BTW ask for customer loyalty, they have the hook-ups!

    • Anonymous

yeah, and don’t forget to be reasonable and nice. I got what I wanted when I called but I also am not calling them every week and didn’t act like they owed me the world.

  • Anonymous

I wonder if you are on an older plan will you have to upgrade to Value or Classic.

    • Sunday

That’s what I believe they want you to do. I know because when I tried to upgrade my phone a few months ago, I was told that I couldn’t keep my existing plan. I said WHY???? and they said BECAUSE!!!!!!

      • Thomas Brezinski

I was told the other week that if I wanted to do an EIP I would have to give up my EM+ plan and sign up for a value plan.  I assume that means if I bought the phone outright I could stay on my EM+.

        • monkeybdb

yes EM+ no longer offers EIP. only on Value. value is sometimes cheaper than em+ depending on the EM+ plan you have

        • Thomas Brezinski

I’m on EM+ 1000 w txt & data @69.99.  I can shave off $5 and go with 500 min 5gb or add $5 and go with unlimited and 5gb to have about the same thing.  So hence I’m not in a rush to change.  If anything debating dropping down to 500min 2gb for $50.

      • Monday

Then you need to find a different store and quit crying. You can keep your old plan for as long as you want.

      • Anonymous

Go to Target and upgrade, and keep your plan with them.

  • Jaime David

I really wish you could make an article  and compare how T mobile US is excluding T Mobile US PR Customers in every Aspect thank you

    • Jaime David

i called toda Customer Service and they told me Once Again T mobile Puerto Rico Customer cannot get this offer, is the same for everything, PR Customers cannot change our voice plan or data plans in the WEBPAGE, even on the Automated system on the 611.

    • Anonymous

It’s a different country. We don’t complain when Tmobile Germany is giving free iPhones with certail level of calling and data plan :)

      • Jaime David

its not a different country PR is Officially part of the US and its considered a state on many different legal aspects blah blah

  • Desuetude

So what are the qualifying classic plans?  I didn’t get a phone last weekend because I didn’t want to change to an unlimited plan.  If all I have to do is change data I might consider it.

  • DannyCh

A “loyal” customer-only sale for people who have signed onto plans that only existed less than a year ago…  Apparently having an plan from before Tmobile even started the classic and values plans is not considered being a loyal customer?  I’ve been with Tmobile for 6 years and I know others have been with them even longer than me.  If that isn’t loyal then I don’t know what is.

    • Vim

Strange. How do people come away thinking something exactly the opposite of what the article said?  I suggest you reread the above article again. If you do you will see that people on older “legacy” (aka grandfathered) plans are also elligible.  The T-Mobile ad graphic even says outright that you can keep your existing plan if you choose.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VGQMRQOQYPZHFOGRIZ53F646KU Not ice_fusion.

“Offer is available for preselected Classic/Legacy Contract customers”

If your plan does not say “Classic” or “Value” in it then you are not eligible. Grandfathered plans do not say “Classic” or “Value” in them.

        • Vim

Reread your own quote.  —Legacy— plans are old plans that are no longer available, they are not Value plans.  Value plans don’t get subsidies.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VGQMRQOQYPZHFOGRIZ53F646KU Not ice_fusion.

Damn, you got me there :P

Then the article text doesn’t match up with the picture provided.. the picture says Classic/Value while the article says Classic/Legacy is eligible. I’m not sure what to think about that mismatch.

        • Vim

You’re right about that first ad graphic. This sale applies to all three types of plans, Value, Classic & Legacy.  It’s just that the Value plan isn’t free after the rebate like the others, since it doesn’t include a phone subsidy.  There is still the EIP to pay.

Now look at the second ad graphic. It says that you have the option to keep your current plan if you choose.  It wouldn’t say that if it was mandatory that you switch to a Classic or Value plan.

    • Anonymous

what’s wrong with just upgrading your device? We upgraded to smart phones in January 2011 on a plan from 2006 – 5 MyFaves each line with per MB data

Now if you think you’ll get to use an Android on those Tzones, whatever it’s called, for $10 unlimited then well…

  • riderdiechic

I guarantee you some people will still complain.  No matter what Tmobile does, you can’t please everyone.  Come back to this page and visit during the sale period and see just how many ungrateful people you have that’s NEVER satisfied that will be on here whining about something.

    • Meek_420

      Spoken like a true genius

    • Anonymous

Some people want something for nothing.

I have a brand new GSII, still in the box unopened. People offering me $300 for it and bitching why I won’t sell it!!! Brand new, haven’t even removed the stickers, $600+tax.

  • Discus

I know the whole idea is to renew contacts, but all I want right now is to be able to change from the 1000 minute family value plan to the 2000 minute family value plan without renewing. That would make me feel valuable. What I am going to have to do is kick a family member over to simple mobile and eat the $5 AAL til the contract is over. My TMO bill goes down as I will dump the text and data and phone insurance and that $ will go to SM, but that’s the way it goes. I miss the TMO that let you change plans when you needed more or less minutes.

I hear the next post, buy a phone and renew so at least you get something for the annoyance of 2 more years’ commitment, but that means a rebate. Maybe you get it, and maybe you don’t, and either way the money is tied up for months. Give me an instant discount or don’t waste my time.

    • zacamandapio

You don’t have to upgrade to change plans that are compatible and are current offerings.  You can go from the 2GB to the 5GB and if you don’t use them all you can go back to the 2GB plan.  Also on your minutes you can change from 1000, to unlimited back down to 2000 without a problem.  You’re not renewing any contracts, you’re just adjusting your account.

      • WillieFDiaz

Not true. Tmobile now requires contract renewals/extensions when you change voice plans, add or remove employee discounts or accept any promotional offer. I’ve been on a battle with them and the BBB and CPUC over it.

  • http://www.unscripted360.com Deacon

if i don’t receive this, then i call fail lol  seriously admirable effort .. really admirable but there are certain “no brainers” when it comes to this loyalty thing and i am one of them.  i won’t mention my history and such but just know … i’ve done above and beyond for the Magenta. :)

  • http://twitter.com/btmec briankh

I’ve been with tmo since May 1998 and haven’t heard anything yet.

  • Matthewsj

Too bad they don’t actually have a phone (HTC Titan) that I want to upgrade too.

    • Frigadroid

Lol that’s how I feel too. I got some cash stashed that I won at the hardrock & the wife doesn’t know about it. If they had what I wanted I would buy it unlocked and avoid the contract. So I will instead probably buy a 44 mag lever action like chuck connors the rifleman had. Then sneak it in to the safe while the wife is out. Then wait and see what sale they have next month.

  • William Cron

If it’s similar to what I was offered by customer care at the beginning of the month, classic customers may be offered a $200 credit and $10 off their monthly bill. I was told I was eligible for this offer because of tenure and my account being in good standing.

  • Guest

although it was nice of them to do that… there’s nothing new out there. oh well.

  • http://twitter.com/angelkutty Rincey

I just got a card in the mail today. I’ve been a T-Mobile customer for 5+ years and am due for a device upgrade in April with my contract being up in the summer. Debating as to whether take this or wait for when I have my official upgrade and see what new phones are announced.

  • Realcool2000

And the whining and crying will commence…….

“Ive been with tmo for 12 years on a great great grandfathered plan , with 372 minutes and free msgs for $30.00, and they cant beat that, free phone or not ”

Or ” too bad tmo doesnt have a phone thats 0 .175″ bigger than a GS2″

    Or

” ive been with tmo since they where Incubation Wireless and I havent heard anything yet ”

    “ whaaaaaaaa ”

Hoping I will get a call, e-mail or snail mail.  Been with T-Mobile for 10 years with 5 lines and four of those lines with data plans.  Two lines very close to full upgrade eligibility, (2/26 and 3/1), and they wouldn’t allow me to participate in the Valentines sale because those two lines had to be at full upgrade eligibility on 2/11.  Close simply wasn’t good enough for that one.

    • Im

well, I can say at least they tried to make up for it with this. I’m with ya though. what there criteria is remains to be seen.

    • Anonymous

Call retention next time, and see what they tell you. I would call they anyway and see what they can do for you. They more than likely can upgrade you early,I know other carries would do it,if you are few weeks away from your contact being up. Can’t understand why Tm doesn’t do this. Also try Target, Costco, whatever bigbox store is in your area,to my understanding
they have more leeway with this, not sure if it’s true.

  • Anonymous

Tmo is really clearing out the cupboards.New next gen phones must be on the way. this first quarter has been bleak.

    • Makoute

I hope that is the case, because I would like an updated HD7

  • http://twitter.com/iDiotGear Rob Daman

Looks like they’re trying to retain the current users and actually try to get that personalized service. I hope it works out. I just always call because I don’t want to go through the bigger pain of looking at someone.

  • TATAY MO

BS. They should let loyal customers upgrade earlier than the “4 months sooner” on that flier

  • Josh

another, total fake deals, this is tmobile’s attempt to keep the unhappy loyal customers to flee to other carriers. all companies offer deal if you renew contract, why tmobile is advertising this nonsense free phone deals if you are upgradable or if you renew  contract? in every adds they put out, they should say in big letters” FREE/DISCOUNTED PHONE IF YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR UPGRADE OR IF YOUR RENEW CONTRACT” that fine print is being hidden on all their ads. they just say free phones, free for you , free for her, then customers go to store only to find out they are not qualified. tmo plays this trick to get people in their empty store to buy something. I can’t wait to cancel my tmobile lines. enough of these fake and deceptive deals!

    • Sim

i am also tired of their deceptive ads and  fake deals

      • Crybabies

Im tired of poor ghetto people who cant afford anything.  Go get your lifeline phone or whatever its called.  Surprised you can afford to have internet @ home to reply to this post.  Oh wait, people can afford an iPhone for “NOT FREE” and an inflated rate plan but they cant afford $200 bucks for a phone.  Actually, you are probably the idiot who drives a 20k car and complains about a $200 dollar cellphone.  Take the money you are saving from not buying a phone and go get fixed.  I dont want you reproducing.

        • Wilma Flintstone

Ghetto and Slums are two different things.  Ghetto’s are usually full of money (whether legal or otherwise).  Slums are the Unfortunately poverty ridden areas.

        • Realcool2000

Trust me bro, these complainers arent poor people. They have money, bur
t just need to whine and cry. They will buy diamonds if they want, but still complain about things like this.

Btw your post was kind of belittling to people that dont deserve it.

        • Frigadroid

Wow you got that right Mr. Cool! I guess we can agree some of us do like to complain. Like I said before I come from a long line of chronic gripers, its in my DNA and has nothing to do with social or economic status.

        • Realcool2000

          :)

      • http://tmonews.com David

Nothing was fake, nothing was deceptive. Why do someone of you complain about things being fake or deceptive because YOU didn’t do your due-diligence?

        • Realcool2000

Exactly! Lets see how many of these whiners fall under the examples in my previous fools complain to much post…..hahaha

    • Bratty

Dude, can you read? It says on the flier that a contract renewal is required. And only qualified customers will be contacted. Plus this isnt exactly their ad, just a leak.

      • Sim

i read, and this is why tmo is stupid to think   of us as fools. every cellphone companies in US gives free phones/discounts if we upgrade/renew contract, why tmo puts this nonsense ads every day?  fine print is hidden in tiny letters, it should be in cap,” FREE/DISCOUNT PHONES ONLY IF YOU ARE  UPGRADABLE AND RENEW  CONTRACT FOR 2 MORE YEARS”

        • http://tmonews.com David

Why is this surprising? Some of act as though you’ve never bought a phone before. Stop complaining about every little thing.

        • Bratty

No, you just want to complain. Stop acting childish. You do have a choice…..wait for it…….to not act on this deal.

        • Vim

It’s pretty rare for a carrier to offer their best phones for free to existing customers. Those deals tend to be saved for new customers.   That generally makes it more cost effective to switch carriers then to stay loyal.  So sales like this really are special.

    • http://tmonews.com David

Good luck elsewhere, where you’ll find the EXACT some thing.

    • Steve

Nobody is offering a free Galaxy S2 except T-Mobile.

I DO agree that the advertising for their free phones is misleading.  I would think that their fine print should tell you exactly which plans qualify, but they don’t.  Nobody wants to go to time-share presentations and nobody wants to go wait an hour at a T-Mo store to find out you don’t qualify when you fully meet the advertisment’s requirements.

Their last promotion really soured me on their attempts to get back into the customer service game.  Everything should be clear and up front…no car sales tactics.

  • http://twitter.com/cielomoreno127 Solo lo traga

Been with T-Mobile since 2001. OOC since 2010, seems i’m gonna stay this way. Buy full price or unlocked, that’s the way for me.

  • haters on the rock

I hope T-mobile call me for this deal lol g2x is messing me up.

  • erj

i’m on a $49/mo1000 mins/ $20 unlimited text. no data,  old plan. I just upgrade to a new phone HTC sensation and was required to add on data for $30 5gb plan. Would I be able to downgrade to 200mb data plan after i receive my rebate without penalty. thanks for replying.

    • Abroomha

I have the sensation on the 200mb plan. It works for me since most of my data usage is through WiFi.

    • Anonymous

Just going by what others have say about this, you go down lower data plan, but not sure you can get the 200mb plan. The new $10. data plan comes with overcharges. You might want to down grade to 2gb plan Hopes this helps.

    • Steve

But for a free smartphone under this plan, you must upgrade to a 2GB plan…and for the top of the line smartphone, you must upgrade to a 5GB plan.  Otherwise, no free phone.

  • http://tmonews.com David

I’ve been shopping at Publix for 12 years too and they’ve never given me free milk!!! Come on, what is up with that??????

    • Wilma Flintstone

Did you ask for Customer Loyalty?

    • Frigadroid

Actually shopping centers have discounts and buy one get one free every day. Try kroger, albertsons, reasors, food pyramid if publix isn’t kicking you back then go to the competition.

    • Realcool2000

      Lmao!

  • NotoriousCheese

I abhor the term “loyalty customer” when it should be “long time customer”. I am a LTC (will be 10 years in August). My “loyalty” is because I have plan (loyalty) that gives me unlimited mins, and text for only 56 bucks and change per month, not because I love TMO as a company. It helps that my coverage is good (I live South of Seattle). I won’t be taking part in any of these deals as it will require me to change my plan. I will use my current upgrade most likely through Target as they do not require customers to change their plans, and for any phone that requires data (e.g. Amaze or Galaxy S II) you only need to add the 200MB plan not 5GB requires for the aforementioned phones.

  • Anonymous

Blah, complain, blah, complain. I’ve been with T-Mobile for over 75 years and grandfathered into an unlimited data, voice, message, HBO, gas card plan for five dollars a month for 9 lines. Why should I upgrade or extend my contract? T-Mobile should give me a phone for free every other month and Carly should make my dinner every night. Why should they make money off me? It’s not like they’re in the business of making money.

    • JBLMOBILEG1

      LOL :-D

    • riderdiechic

LMBO – the whiners won’t get this message

    • Steve

Don’t quite understand people like you think that customers are never right.  There is a reason they offer these deals…that reason is that customers are going to other carriers.  It costs 10x as much to get new customers as it does to keep existing customers happy.  I don’t know what world you grew up in, but in my world, money talks.  If a company doesn’t want my business, I don’t need to give it to them.  EVERYONE hates false advertising.  Loyal customers HATE finding out that their company doesn’t value them.  It’s common sense.  You sound like you must be a T-mobile sales rep.  The kind that has been causing customer “churn”

      • Anonymous

Actually, I think customers are always right.  But they are not entitled to everything.  It basically boils down to either keeping your awesome grandfathered plan or a heavily discounted phone.  Everyone that’s complaining wants their cake and eat it too.

A little history about me: I’m not a T-Mobile sales rep, just a customer since the Omnipoint days.  I have a 5 line family plan and mines is a G1 data plan (it says so on my bill). I buy my phones used on eBay when it’s cheap because I don’t like being an early adopter.

  • JQuest

I’m SOOOO sick of T-Mobile sticking it to me, with all these free, super smartphones. I mean c’mon, Why would I want an upgrade up to 4 months before the end of my contract. That’s gotta be the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard!!!! What are they doing?? I’ve been with them for 28 years and my eyes have never seen nor my ears have ever heard anything so appalling!!!

Now that I got that off my chest.. My heart says yes, take advantage of this deal… but my head says no, because I know as soon as I do, they are going to announce something I want even more being that new phone season is upon us!! Oh my, decisions, decisions…

    • Sinaloa37

      28years??

      • Frigadroid

Yeah 28? I had powertell then it became voicestream then tmobile. I know they don’t count the powertell and voicestream years and even if they did I wouldn’t even have 28. I figured around 20 years for me but they only give me credit for 14 years.
I haven’t received any notice about a sale, only time they contact me is a text about a week before my due date to remind me my bill is coming due. So I always text them back that I know when my bill is due, so stop sending me stupid text! Last time I text them back to check the record again because I paid all ready and also Phil Humm can kiss my ass! They sent a text back saying that my payment posted duh. I have one line off contract and the vibrant should be about 18th month since I mistakenly bought it the first day. Its ironic that they also had trouble with the system that morning too and I had to come back that afternoon to buy the vibrant. They might have tried to call me and could now be blocked for not leaving a message. Homey don’t play, if you call me you better have something to say or you will have to try again from another number :-)

        • Heisenberg

Yeah, you sound like the kind of customer companies are just dying to have.

        • JBLMOBILEG1

LOL I was just about to say that…. not to mention one that’s even been alive for 28 years.

        • Realcool2000

Haha check my complaining and whining post this guy falls directly under one of the examples…….too funny…

        • Realcool2000

Talkin bout jquest btw, not u other guys replying to him ……

        • JQuest

I guess you didn’t get the sarcasm… I was taking a shot at the ones who are whining and complaining. If you noticed, I followed my absurd “complaining” with me logically debating if I want to actually take advantage of this sell or not, because my inner nerd says wait for MWC.

        • Realcool2000

Sorry bout that Jquest, I didnt get it at first and didnt read the follow up.

          My bad bro..

I m up to date now, and u cool with me bro!

        • Frigadroid

You sound like the corporate morons who ruined tmobile. Or most likely the ignorant tmobile store representative who thinks the costumers caused tmobile’s problems. Yeah get a clue people who pay their bill on time everytime for 20 years is exactly what companies want.

    • JQuest

Fist paragraph. SARCASM guys!!! I guess you didn’t read my sane second paragraph… It was a shot at the whiners!

    • Cortes Ansel

Well the way I look at it. Is this u pay nothing for a free galaxy s 2 and then. The greatest phone ever comes out then u sell ur gs2 for 400 minimal if u r unlucky, and pay 600 for the new phone u really want. It will really only cost u 200 which is probably going to be cheaper than this awesome device will cost with an upgrade. Maybe 250 (look at amaze 4g when new). So u get a cooler phone for now and save a couple of bucks later on or about the same.

      • JQuest

Great plan there! Hopefully I can let go and sell it when the time comes… HAHA

  • Faceless041974

This is bullshit. I waited at a store on Saturday for five hours waiting for their pos system to come back online so I could qualify for a rebate for a phone I bought seven days ago. Nothing went through until Monday when everything went back online. Now I have to argue with them about this offer. Craptastic!

  • Wilma Flintstone

They are trying their hardest to get me to renew my contract BEFORE MWC.  Not gonna happen though, I’ve waited this long, I can wait another week and a half to see whats coming out at MWC (Tizen is already confirmed to be there so That’s my MAIN focus this year at MWC).  Then I’ll see if renewing my contract is worth it or not.

    • Realcool2000

      Btw….

      Ghetto

a section of a city, especially a thickly populated slum area, inhabited predominantly by members of an ethnic or other minority group, often as a result of social or economic restrictions, pressures,or hardships.

      • Wilma Flintstone

Yeah sure, use definitions from dictionary website.  So I guess all suburban areas are full of nothing but middle aged soccer moms, all trailer parks are full of country people, all successful businesses are owned by people that look like Newt Gingrich huh?  According to that definition you used, if you live in a specific area you must be a specific stereotype.

I bet some people in 305 area code miami, Dade county GA, Mechanicsville, Crenshaw, Inglewood, and other various Ghetto’s have MUCH more money than you and most business owners do.

You obviously don’t see what kind of cars these guys drive.  I’ve been to some of the car shows they have and it’s ridiculous the kind of things they have in them.  15 inch TV’s in the back of the seats just because they can.  26 inch Asanti’s on 4 wheelers just because they can (in case you didn’t know, 1 asanti rim can cost you anywhere around $4000).

They buy Trex Motorcycles just because they feel like it that day.  a Trex motorcycle costs $50,000 and to put some Asanti’s on it is just ridiculous.  Theres a Youtube video of this actually done.

The housing isn’t the best I can agree with but to say they have less money is completely illogical.  Now whether said money was gathered legally is debatable but the fact is, they got money and lots of it.

        • BigMixxx

damn, so harsh Wilma.  Ghetto has a THOUSAND orgins (anyone can use the google machine to find them).

Having seen and been in ‘that area of Miami’ by spending a little time during the prime Freaknik and FAMU days, when I was just a young lad.  Yes, there is a TON of money all over Miami.  Miami-Dade being one of the largest county’s in the nation (top 10), lots o money!
