(Updated) T-Mobile Offering The HTC Wildfire S To Customers Canceling Over iPhone 4S?

Update: Now, anyone who has ever called retentions knows that the offers will vary based on the caller, tenure, upgrade eligibility etc. Still, this offer seems released specifically in response to the iPhone 4S which makes it worth noting. There are other offers we’ve been hearing in the last few hours that far and away offer a compelling reason to stick with T-Mobile. The HTC Wildfire S has been added to the list of devices that are available for retention offers in order to stem the iPhone cancellation flow.

The iPhone 4S has already proven to be a runaway success and given that, T-Mobile is concerned about customers canceling and heading elsewhere as they remain the last national carrier not to have an iPhone. No matter your operating system preference, there is little hope the HTC Wildfire S (even as a starting offer) is going to entice iPhone 4S customers to stay on T-Mobile.

This offer does however, make complete sense given the highlighted portion of this image that specifically refers to the 3GS. The 3GS and the Wildfire S are very much in a comparable position and this deal would work quite well. However, the bulk of this image text leads us to believe that the Wildfire S is being offered a a starting point for customers looking to leave for the iPhone 4S and working their way up from there.

T-Mobile needs to do more, way more to stem the tide of customers who wish to leave as they see Magenta being the last national carrier without the iPhone. With the recent additions of the Galaxy S II and Amaze 4G T-Mobile has beefed up their Android line-up considerably and has therefore put the focus on showcasing the strength of their Android line-up. Given those additions, this would be the right opportunity to do exactly that, offer customers wishing to leave for the iPhone 4S a truly competitive reason to stay.

LMAO!!!  Too bad the CS rep I spoke to the other day didn’t have this in his arsenal of responses.

I called to check on the contract end dates on my 3 lines.  I also wanted to know exactly how the tiered ETF thing works.  Buddy was very upbeat and helpful until he asked why I wanted to know.  He asked, so I told him that I love T-Mobile and have been with them since 2003, but I was a little put off that we’re the only carrier not offering the iPhone.

After he gave me his spiel about Android phones and how great they are (which they are!…I’ve used the G2 for over a year now), I just said that I was still considering switching.

He hung up on me.  LOL.  This is the kind of douche-baggery that I’ve grown to dislike about TMO as of late.

    • Anonymous

impossible, because manually released calls are tracked internally and representatives get terminated for it. The likelihood was a call drop or something along so lines. So unless he had a want to lose his job, then my vote is on the call drop vs him hanging up.

      • trife

No, he definitely hung up on me.  After I explained that I’m currently using an Android device and that I’m still considering switching carriers, he said “Have a nice day” and hung up before I could even utter a reply.

I trained those call center guys for 2yrs. They CAN and WILL hang up and have been instructed not to but nothing happens to them but a write up and termination is for habitual “hang uppers”.

  • Youngt82

Haha wow T-Mobile, I know you guys are better than that smh they do make some weird decisions …no wonder they’re in the number 4th spot!

  • lion heart

Lol at least is a good comparison

I wish T-Mo would do something for us Vibrant owners whose phones have never performed as advertised.  Apparently many of the Vibrant’s issues (especially GPS) have been resolved in the Galaxy S II (though I’m very wary of buying another Samsung at this point), but I’m not going to sign another 2-year deal and pay lots of cash for a new phone to replace my Vibrant – I’d probably look at an iPhone on another carrier after going through this Vibrant ordeal.

I feel your pain. Exact same experience with the Captivate on AT&T. What a nightmare! I went with the Captivate from an iPhone 3g.

Anyway…if T-Mobile’s coverage and price/plans work for you, I can highly recommend the Samsung Galaxy S II. IMO, it’s the first phone that truly competes with the current iPhone, and bests it in many areas. The ONLY thing that *might* have made me switch to a new iPhone 4s is if it had a 4″ to 4.3″ screen. The other thing is the GPS/Turn-by-Turn Google Nav…it’s AWESOME, and not yet available on the iPhone (without purchasing an expensive 3rd party app such as Navigon). See if you can get a decent “retention” offer from T-Mobile for the new SGSII, or the HTC Amaze 4G if you prefer the Sense UX over Touchwiz. Both have amazing cameras and 1080p video as well.

I had to watch a lot of upgrades today for the IP4S(AT&T).

ME: So, what do you like about the 4S?
CUST: i dont know!  I just want one, plus TMobile sucks where I live.
ME:  What kind of phone do you currently have?
    CUST: Shadow, Behold One
ME: (showed PCC) Looks like you have good coverage, plus you it will be even better with the New SGS2 or even the Sensation if you upgrade
    CUST: I don’t care I want the IP4S…
ME:  Sooo, you have 4 lines on TMO and you are currently paying $145/mth (loyalty customer).  you would rather have a $800 ETF (you would probably go to collections) and then turn around possibly have a DEPOSIT on ATT, etc, etc.
CUST:  (showed her the SGS2)  Oh this is what i like?  the side-to-side apps like the iphone.
ME: Oh, wow!! That’s it??  The horizontal app selection?

    • http://twitter.com/Drez87 David Perez

lol i had a great one today at work….

CUST: Do you guys have the new iPhone?ME:No, But we have our new Samsung Galaxy s2 which alot of people say its better than the iphone!!
CUST: Oh, no i was looking for the iPhone
ME: Sir, Out of curiosity what is it you like about the iphone
CUST: Its the iPhone its the best
ME: What is it about the iphone that you like so much?
CUST: I have one, so I wanted the new one
ME: Ok, but still what is it that you like about it?
CUST: It does that thing… (Swiping motion with hand) the thing that it does…..(More hand swiping) its the best phone ever…
ME: So basically… what your saying is just cause its name is iPhone you want it….
CUST: Yes, I love the brand

NO LIE i swear on my unborn kid, thats how the conversation went down… he couldnt even tell me what it was about the iphone that he loved so much lol

That seems pretty typical of iPhone users. They surrender their freedom for an admittedly cushy prison.

          A couple of thoughts;
          -Actually Metro Does not.
-I dont hate on Apple, they make a great product and market the HELL out of it.
-I love android and that will be my device of choice. Now if someone gives me a Iphone to use will I? Hell yes! Will I purchase one myself? Probably not.
-TMO has issues and it not the fact that they dont have the iphone, its the fact that leadership is disconnected and does not know how to compete now.

Love it. One of my boys are the same way. Iphone does everything better… Like what? Everything. Man it’s like talking to 13 year old. The only person getting upset is me. ” what the F-u_ are you talking about.

@twitter-60826178:disqus Excactly!  Thats how most of my convos are.  Honestly, I played with the IP4S and its a nice device.  The SIRI is faster than Genius Button(Google Voice Search)….TO me, it just felt to small and boring.  The camera quality looks no different from the IP4G..
and  fast when you are transitioning, gaming…

So i do a side by side with the SGS2 and the screen size, camera, videop quality kills the IP4S.

I actually called Tmobile because I already cancelled and switched to AT&T. The retentions rep asked was I cancelled told her the following reason and she told me the “Tmobile will be getting the iPhone 4G, in January” I been with Tmobile for 5 years so It made me wanna go back but I don’t see a solid source

    • Justn18yroldcollegekid

Oh I cancelled because I want the iPhone 4s and I called to make sure my bill and everything was paid. If you have a ignorant comment keep it to u self I don’t wanna hear it

      • Anonymous

That wasn’t an ignorant comment, but your reply to it was. If you could comprehend the reply to your comment skidmarksally was jumping on your theory that the iPhone4s could possibly come to T Mobile in January (which is next year)

        • Justn18yroldcollegekid

No I didn’t mean his comment was ignorant I didn’t finish my first post and ment that’s as part to I didn’t mean anything to the guy that commented it

well the the tmobile guy did say tmobile wont carry the iphone this year so maybe after or even in january they would carry it.

Loving my new 4s with at&t. Was a tmobile customer since 04 and had all 4 previous iPhones unlocked just couldn’t deal with the “edge” Internet speeds. Got a pretty good deal with at&t it was hard to pass on. Getting 9mbps in RI, nope the wildfire won’t do it. If for some reason th deal falls off and tmobile somehow gets the iPhone I’ll be right back with tmo but for now it was go time. Gonna def miss this site now I feel like I shouldn’t even be here lol

    • Anonymous

You’ll see those speeds again when you go over your minutes.

Do you not have wifi at home? Also AT&T caps their data plans… Is the iPhone 4S with 3G speeds truly worth it when the data is going to be capped?

      • Joey

Trust me I’m an accountant I did the math behind it and this work just perfect for me. I don’t have enough time in the day to be playing around that much with my phone, I called cs and I haven’t used more than 1.5 in data ever and I got myself 4gb with at&t and because of the unlimited mobile to mobile they have now and my corporate discount tht tmobile refused to apply to my unlimited loyalty plan my bill will be about $25-$35 less for my 2 lines plus I was off contract on both lines. It was go time lol

    • Anonymous

What part of RI are you at?  My boy got a max of 4 in Providence and gets a steady 1-2 in Newport.  Are you sure your wi-fi isn’t turned on?

  • tito

Offering that phone is an insult… the wildfire is a piece of junk and it erks me when I see that people have it… a wildfire wouldn’t make me want to stay with t-mobile even if they paid me to take it… the fact alone that it has only 100 mb of internal storage is upsetting… a refurbished g1 would be better of an offer… XD…

At least they are offering an option. What is wrong with giving people a choice. They are not forcing people to take the phone, they are not automatically upgrading people, but they are giving them the option. Just cause they are not selling high end phones for dirt cheap and drastically losing money solely to satisfy a few isheep and izombies, does not mean that the options they do have are horrible. I know plenty, and I mean PLENTY of people who absolutely love their wildfire s phones. I know some that are ordering more for family because of how much they love theirs. In the end, its all about what you enjoy, and if the iPhone has you over a barrel into thinking its still as magical as two leprechauns pounding each other in a magical forest under a rainbow then go enjoy your outdated tech.

    • Bp22

Sounds to me like your a DroidSheep. Droid fan Boi. Your the outdated one. Loser. So many amazing games and apps on iOS. Games that Match and beat Most DS and PSP games. Let’s see your Sh$t droid do that?. You old fart

But you do realize that its a lose-lose for TMo either way it go. They can either lose 500 for the high-end phone(s) or lose the person’s two year commitment which will be more than a phone.

  • Anonymous

The problem with this story is, Tmo been doing this for sometime. So pointing out their doing this because of the iphone really isn’t true.

  • Littlesis1774

Tmobile really must think we are morons

  • http://twitter.com/btmec briankh

I just got off the phone with t-mobile. I am seriously thinking about canceling service and wanted to verify I was out of contract on all 5 lines. Well they made me an offer I don’t know if I can refuse. They offered me $250 each off two new phones plus $150 a month for all 5 lines with unlimited everything up to 2gb data or up to 5gb for $20 extra. It is a hard deal to pass up. That would save me at least $70 off my monthly bill but I would have to go on contract again. I like the freedom of being off contract.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ASLY6MKMKHP2HSETXPT73RZNPA infantry11b

If you cancel with T-Mobile, please enlighten us as to whom you will begin service with to remain sans contract, aside from prepaid, not too many options exist.

      • http://twitter.com/btmec briankh

I like the idea of being out of contract with t-mobile because of the possible deal with AT&T. I don’t want to renew a contract and then find out a year later I am now stuck with AT&T.

        • Mattharader

If you resign before the merge ATT cant change your pricing on you. But if you are out of contract ATT can do whatever with your plan and if you want to upgrade you have to choose ATT plans.

    • James555

Don’t take it. Tmobile service is declining. No wonder they are trying to sell out.

    • Joey

Tmobiles customer service SUX. Never thought I’d day this as little as a year ago

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ASLY6MKMKHP2HSETXPT73RZNPA infantry11b

I recently ended up having to sign up with AT&T due to a location change.  I tried the iphone 4, and to be honest, I really missed android.  I know I am in the minority, but I really feel like an android running gingerbread leaves ios behind aside from stability.  Sure ios has more apps, but apps don’t make the experience if you ask me.

  • Vim

I don’t see why you’re comparing a $200-$400 iPhone 4S with a free Wildfire S.  It would be more appropriate to compare the free Wildfire S with the 28 month old iPhone 3GS AT&T is now offering for free. If you’re going to compare the IPhone 4S to something it should be the Galaxy S2 or the Amaze 4G.

  • Brosemann

Switched out 5 lines from T-Mobile. Went to Sprint and got 5 iPhone 4s’s great move. Tnobile has burnt to many bridges with customers lately. They will miss me as a customer because I paid them over $400 a month, OUCH! Oh well sprint got me all 5 lines for $ 289.99 great deal. Screw , they deserve to be bought out!

    • Jweimer02

Dollar for dollar tmobile plans are cheaper, anyone with math knowledge can figure that out by looking on each carriers network. It’s possible you had an older plan, but the newer ones are definitely cheaper than sprints, you may want to go back to the drawing board

      • Anonymous

He’s a moron.. that’s clearly evident at the complete lack of even decent sentence structure..

Bitch! Your just jealous that you can’t afford a damn iPhone 4s. Tmobile is crap!!!!!!!!!!!!! Period. Have fun with your crappy Wildfire S. Sprint has been great so far, their network is great.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_XXUIASWPE6DODDRG36XD7KQSI4 Jay Anderson

Are they serious? the Wildfire S? Its a 3g phone plus tmobile’s crappy customer service. That is what they are offering to draw people away from the iPhone? Really? Really? Really? Besides the phones that came out recently this year, the very first iPhone- the iPhone 3g is superior to half of tmobile’s phone line up. Maybe more than half. Htc makes the best phones after apple, but the wildfire s is not in the same league with any iPhone.

    • Mattharader

Dude even the iphone 4s is years behind half the phones on the market. If you do not like tmo customer service go to ATT or even sprint and let know what you feel. Oh and the 4S is also a3g phone just like the iphone 3 and 3gs.

  • Anonymous

    It’s customer retention, not retentions..

  • Anonymous

Honestly, the people leaving.. don’t let the door hit you on the way out. It’s hilarious to see people say they’re going to pay 1000 in ETF’s, $1200 or so in new phones, and two overlapping bills just so they can tell T-Mobile to shove it.

Less customers on the T-Mobile network will just make it that much sweeter while we wait for the AT&T decision.

Go crowd up AT&T/Verizon/Sprint. Sprint’s 3G is absolutely atrocious, more migrations to it will cause huge buyers remorse (as if it isn’t already) “Siri isn’t working.. Sprint network issues!” LOL

    • http://twitter.com/NCSUgrad204 Rodger Seabrook

This is as dumb of a comment as I have ever read on this forum!

      • Anonymous

I can’t stop others from leaving, but I will enjoy the extra bandwidth now that they’ve moved to a different network — and a crappy network at that. Sprint is garbage, they are constantly correcting billing errors and they are WAY more shadier than T-Mobile

The Wildfire performs the same or better than an iPhone 3GS, way better than an iPhone 3G. Not many iPhone 4 users on T-Mobile. A free phone is just that, free.. you could probably get another offer for something better. Why is everyone expecting a hand out because they don’t offer the iPhone. You aren’t entitled to ANYTHING.

Paying 1000′s to move to another carrier because of some emotional reason like I was treated poorly on the phone or I got a crappy phone from LG and T-Mobile won’t give me a brand new one is stupidity.

I had to explain that for you? So much for being a “NCSU grad”, go back to school

    • jarjon76

I love that they people feel the need to complain here, as if we care if they’re leaving T-Mobile. I suspect a lot of these people are talking out of their…butts and are still with T-Mobile.

    • Cameron W3st

It’s not a matter of wanting to leave…it’s a matter of getting the services you’re paying for. I pay 110$/month for my phone…and almost all of the features I got my phone for, don’t really work.  I have a G2X and my GPS doesn’t work right, my web browser constantly freezes for no reason and I ave to force close it, my texts don’t go through when I have 3 bars of 4G and now, my phone has started to say that the Google framework is failing and my contacts or disappearing and my email won’t sync…

I’m just about to leave Tmo if they don’t offer me something and I can assure you I will NOT be paying an ETF…If I have to I will take Tmo to small claims court, which can be done in CA, for paying for services that are promised to me and which I cannot use…

Paying for something that DOES NOT WORK is ILLEGAL. And the fact that Tmo will NOT take care of this $500 phone I bought and fix my problem is completely laughable. That is NOT the way to run a business. This is my 3rd G2X and none of the problems it’s having are MY fault…even though that’s what Tmo constantly tells me every time I call them.

    • StevenJ

I dont understand why all of you who want Tmobile to succeed always have to be so nasty to people.  Tmobile should listen to their customers’ complaints and try to make things better.  If you really want a strong Tmobile, why antagonize people and tell them to leave?  A company without any customers is not going to survive.  It seems counter intuitive if you really want Tmobile to be able to stand alone and stay strong.  Maybe instead of everyone flinging insults, people can actually listen to what the complaints are.  Id love a Tmobile executive in their ivory tower in Bellevue to actually talk to customers who are unhappy.  I emailed all the top executives a few days ago.  Hopefully someone from the CEO’s office will get back to me.   I would think hey monitor sites like this and their own site for comments, but Ithink they need to know what is going on in the trenches and why customers are bailing.  I know i used to work for a major global company you’d all recognize and I worked at the local , regional, and national headquarters.  They hired me because of my local market experience…and the people at the top are often totally clueless about what really goes on in the trenches.  But if you want Tmobile to succeed, you should want them to improve their quality and services and be competitive.  How many people do you run into that are dying to move to Tmobile?  I honestly don’t even know a single person who uses Tmobile…and never have.

if I am set on a particular phone that tmo doesn’t carry, I could buy it at msrp if it will work on tmo and stay or get a subsidised one. I really like the Photon. Tried it at store, also have always liked motorola, writing this on my 2 year old cliq, still works like new. Point is whether its iphone : x. Or android : D. Why settle for a phone you could stand as opposed to the phone you want?

  • Anonymous

After eleven months with my battery sucking MyTouch 4g, which can’t figure out the proxy for my workplace’s wifi (even with Gingerbread)…nothing will keep me on an Android phone when its time for an upgrade.

The only thing TMo can do to keep me as a customer is offer the iPhone.. Not because its cool and all that, but because IT BLOODY WORKS!!!!!

Otherwise, I off to ATT next year. Higher bill? Maybe, but what good is a lower bill when the damn phone is useless eight hours a day?

    • Chatter

Ox – I have a MT4G and while I do not have any major issues with it, I do agree with your last statement. I would suggest thought that you try another Android phone. This could be a glitch in your phone and not as much an Android thing. Good luck.

Thats the dumbest thing i ever heard, the wildfire is a POS.  If anything they should offer a discount on a amaze or GS2.  Now that they are the only carrier out of the big 4 without the magical phone, they need to be aggressive and push their high end phones.  Whatever, i dont run the company, and from the looks of it whoever maid this stupid decision to offer the wildfire should be fired themselves.

I am thinking of leaving tmobile although I would prefer not to. I have had the G2 and currently have the HTC Sensation. On both phones I have had major issues with the proximity sensor. On multiple occasions I have hung up on people and press buttons on important business calls. At this point, I am thinking of getting an iphone to avoid these problems. I think the Sensation and G2 are infinitely better devices than the iphone 4S. However, I need the basics done well.

    • Anonymous

Maybe that’s an HTC problem and not an Android problem? It definitely isn’t a T-Mobile problem.

I agree.  I have plenty of problems with Tmobile but many people are complaining about their phones – not the Tmobile service.  And if you have bad coverage on any network, for gods sake, leave.  But you can’t make general statements.  One person may get great reception on one carrier and bad reception on another.  Ive got Tmobile reception at my house but I go to a friends house a few miles away and I can’t even make a  call.  Don’t understand it but thats how it works.  Thats whats scary about changing carriers if you have good reception – or being in a situation where you’re in a 2 year contract and you move and all of the sudden can’t get a signal…especially as more and more people are dumping landlines and going 100% cellular

        • Anonymous

My point is – Tmobile does not offer the iPhone and then they are selling the Blackberry 9900 for $350 before rebate. So great options on Tmobile were the Sensation and G2 but those didn’t work for me. So it may be time for me to switch carriers.

Oo thank god i left t-mobile last week , and no i will not be getting an iphone i will be sticking with android even tho i will probably be going to verizon or at&t. the reason i left t-mobile after 4 years was cuz i had complaind so many times about crappy coverage in my house in los angeles and they didnt do anything after 4 years of complaining. I got one of there phones with wifi calling and all and yea it worked great in my house i was finally able to talk. but in many places in La i had no service while my friends on at&t had service. also when i went to go see britney spears this past july on her femme fatale tour on staples center t-mobile service went down. i guess cuz there were alot of people so it was impossible to send a simple txt or call. while my friend that went with me had service on at&t and was able to make calls and send txts without a problem. so yea goodbye t-mobile
    . At&t here i come i kno at&t is more expensive but i dont care .

    • Hrose1965

I left tmobile last month for ATT I was with them for 11years I couldn’t be happier hell ATT even wavied my actvation fee for 4 line after I told them came from tmobile

Switching to AT&T is like the stupidest thing ever.. you DO know we will become AT&T customers after the acquisition is complete if it completes.. at T-Mobile prices.. morons.

      • Dpro

I will refrain from using insults and calling people morons like you do above. I will ask this, are you a troll? All I see you doing is ragging on peoples posts.
Now lets get on to the facts.

Fact #1 DOJ has already come out against the acquisition of T Mobile by AT&T ( cough cough err SBC!!)
Fact #2 The FCC has never ruled against the DOJ.
Fact #3 Top heads at the FCC do not like the idea of this acquisition either.
Fact#4 AT&T cough cough err SBC would have to divest of way more than they want to to even get the DOJ to approve the deal.

Based on these real facts, it leaves me the opinion that the deal will most likely not happen. So it should not be a subject in this particular thread anyways.

All of that aside, this thread is about the stupidity of T Mobile management. Whether you like the Iphone or not its a needed Phone in the lineup of phones for any major carrier in the U.S. for survivals sake. It generates sales and lots of them. Offering a mediocre phone to stay for people leaving for a much better phone is laughable at best . T Mobile is actually insulting themselves by making a what looks like a pretty dumb move.

So switching to AT&T cough cough err SBC for the sake of wanting a Iphone that T mobile is currently thumbing their noses at is not stupid at all. Rather its personal choice for a very valid reason.

Now as David has posted and others have as well the Iphone 4S is not an inferior phone like the Droid fans want us to believe. It actually scored higher in Benchmarks than any current Android phone. Check Anandtech and a few other sites if you don’t believe it.

Oh and I do like T Mobile and have a been a customer for 9 years + . I do not like the management and the shear ignorance they manage to show.

Oh and for the T mo reps laughing at their customers who want Iphones without knowing why? Ya that is scary for the sake of T Mobile. LOL
Though for each one of them there is many more of us that know all about the phone its OS and how and why the have their strong points.
Do you? I am tired of T Mobile reps saying that Android is better and you ask them why and all they can is Android is open and you can customize.
You know what Android being open is part of its problem, massive fragmentation that Google is still trying to reign in. Customize, ya cool for the geek who fracks with his phone all the time. LOL Terrible if someone wants to buy a phone and have it work right from the get go. It took Android all the way to 2.2-2.3 to finally work half way correct and almost all the phones are still being loaded with useless bloatware you can’t remove if you want to.
Thanks Android its been interesting, though a pain. LOL

        • Anonymous

What the hell are you talking about? I said nothing about how inferior or superior the iPhone 4S is.

Until the decision comes down, it’s ALL up in the air. You can’t predict what they will do and pass it along as if it’s fact.

      • StevenJ

Once your contract with Tmobile expires, ATT is under no legal obligation to continue honoring that forever.  Just fyi.

It’s amazing how many people complain about T-Mobile. I gave been with TMO for over 7 years and I never had major problems. I mean yeah, sometimes I don’t get coverage in certain places but which network is perfect. Seriously for the people crying because we are not getting the IPhone go ahead and pay more money per month and be on their crappy network. Intelligent people know that android is way better than IOS and Samsung and HTC is the leaders in hardware especially with HD screens and future 12mp cameras. The announcement of the phone 4S is a joke to iphone lovers. Just goes to show how slow they are in advancing their hardware. You can keep your iphones. If you people are so concerned about saving money go to Metro Piece of S#$t. ENJOY!!!!!

    • Guest911

“Their hardware” beats the crap out of ANY android phone currently. Yes, any android. Maybe you are not so intelligent after all.

      • Vim

There are plenty of reasons to like and even prefer the iPhone, but in 2011 superior hardware is not one of them.  The reason the iPhone 4S was such a disappointment to the press is because it didn’t advance the iPhone passed Android.  All it did was catch the iPhone up in some, but not all ways.  What did the 4S add in terms of hardware? a dual processor? an 8 MPix camera? world phone capability? HSPA+ 14.4 support? A better antenna?  These are all things android already has.  What does Android have that the iPhone doesn’t?  LTE support,  HSPA+ 42 support, WiMAX support, keyboards for those who want them, larger screens for those of us who feel 3.5″ is claustrophobic, NFC support, Super Amoled Plus screens (on Samsung’s).  What will Android soon have that Apple won’t get for a long time? 720P displays & Quad Processors.  Hardware tech marches on and Apple is no longer leading.

I love how fandroids call themselves intelligent cuz of their personal choice of cell phone.

The thing is people who want Androids and are value shoppers are going to prepaid and getting much cheaper rate plans.  If they want unlimited everything, they can get that for $50 (yes I know tmobile offers that now too but they’re not known as a prepaid brand and the customers they are bleeding are all in the more profitable contracts), and if they need fewer minutes, they can get cheaper plans for $30 or less.  So people check Tmobile and it says $80 for 2gb of data and that doesnt sound like a bargain to them.  Just from a marketing perspective, Tmobile doesnt have an effective message.  They just seem like they’re floundering.  Who is their target market these days?  They’re not attracting new customers and from many comments here, you can see they’re not pleasing existing and longtime customers.  They have employees who can’t even explain their plans.  If tmobile had gotten the iphone, they would have  had a lot more people checking them out because their plans would have been competitive.  And you can call people stupid, but the fact is the merger uncertainty makes people nervous and reluctant to jump to Tmobile.  And when you have long term contract customers whose contracts expire and you make no attempt to offer them an incentive to resign, thats just bad marketing practices.  Same as having a big sale and not even texting your existing customer base to tell them about it.  I saw a commercial about last months sale on TV at 9pm – after the stores had closed.  My contract was up months ago and I never heard a peep from anyone at Tmobile where in the past Id always get special offers and letters thanking me for my loyalty.  I just don’t know who is running the company anymore.  And Tmobile prepaid customer service is hell.  Thats not going to do much for their reputation which used to be the #1 service.

  • ogopogo

This is EXACTLY what most of us have been saying, and is now validated by T-Mobile themselves – The fact that the iPhone is not a part of the T-Mobile lineup has hurt them considerably. I for one, do not want an iPhone, but the lack thereof makes the company less viable in the marketplace.

If we continue to bleed customers, TMOUS will be as good as dead regardless of which platform we support (Android, Blackberry, WP7, etc.)

This is why ALL of those that made disparaging comments towards the iPhone, and Apple are so short sighted – It was for the betterment of T-Mobile, and your precious platform.

Now, we are all going to suffer.

wow, after reading all of the post on this article, some of you people kill me talking about “i left tmo, and joined att or verizon for the iphone 4gs” who the hell really cares? leave! i hope you actually enjoy whomever you left tmo for. i been with tmo since the summer of 2007 and had no serious problems ever since, had great billing payments, even tho i did have a prob when i upgraded to the new bb curve 9360, they added the enterprise email for $30 without my consent, as well as another $20 data plan. i was furious of course and had no idea that was added on my account til i checked my account. them bitches took it of after i cursed them out. but anyway…..for the people who say they left tmo already, WHAT IF, tmo throws a curve ball and GET the iphone 4gs or better, the iphone 5 (if possible) and the att deal doesn’t go through?? you bitches would be wanting to come back to tmo and never wished you would have left i the first place. i renewed my contract after switching from the old even more plus plan to the new unlimited value plan without any worries, i have faith that tmo will still be around and start to get back on it’s feet in the near future. i am enjoying my service, thank you very much

You ready don’t know Tmobile like I do. Try being a customer since 2002. It you didnt know the company is going down. Service has not improved in the 9 years I have been with the company and it probably won’t they don’t merge with AT&T. Did you see the numbers the iPhone did.? How many people you saw wake up early just to get the Samung Gaxaly 2 or sell out on preorders? You see Sprint jumped on board and did big numbers. Tmobile continues to bring out bullshit phones and try to offer you he cheapest plans to make up for crappy service and cheat Android phones that won’t last long before you start calling them again and cussing them out about the bad phone you sold them. Sorry but you should really consider a new phone company that iz going to last longer than the hope you have in Tmobile before you be kicking yourself in the face soon.

It was a terrible mistake for T-Mobile to not get the iPhone. More and more businesses are moving away from Blackberry and using the iPhone. I have been a T-Mobile customer since 2003 and I’m leaving them and probably going to Verizon to get the new Nexus or iPhone. T-Mobile coverage in my area is great but I’m tired of having a full signal but as soon as I walk into my house, dorm, or any building getting no signal.

    • Action 6

Same here. Signal outside and no.signal in any building not even in my 4rth floor apartment. I was in a hospital waiting room where some were talking on their phone but my HTC phone is dead. It sucks

  • Cameron W3st

It’s not a matter of wanting to leave with me, or getting the iPhone…it’s a matter of getting the services you’re paying for. I pay 110$/month for my phone…and almost all of the features I got my phone for, don’t really work.  I have a G2X and my GPS doesn’t work right, my web browser constantly freezes for no reason and I have to force close it, my texts don’t go through when I have 3 bars of 4G, my phone STILL shuts off for no reason and now, my phone has started to say that the Google framework is failing and my contacts are disappearing and my email won’t sync…

I’m just about to leave Tmo if they don’t offer me something and I can assure you I will NOT be paying an ETF…If I have to I will take Tmo to small claims court, which can be done in CA, for paying for services that are promised to me and which I cannot use…

Being forced to pay for something that DOES NOT WORK is ILLEGAL. And the fact that Tmo will NOT take care of this $500 phone I bought and fix my problem is completely laughable. That is NOT the way to run a business. This is my 3rd G2X and none of the problems it’s having are MY fault…even though that’s what Tmo constantly tells me every time I call them…

    Sprint looks better and better

    • StevenJ

google sprint employee referral and save $10 a month on your iPhone plan.

    • Deeezzzz

Cameron, you should get a free replacement phone as long as your phone is under warranty. Also if your G2X is not working then it is not T-Mobiles fault or responsibility. It falls on the phone manufacturer.

      • Cameron W3st

I’ve had free replacements…this is my 3rd G2X…still with all the same problems…I understand that this is LG’s phone…but as someone said above, if Tmobile is standing behind this phone…then it is TMobiles responsibility to fix it…I don’t pay my monthly bill to LG…and I certainly didn’t buy this phone from LG either…

    • Havoktek

If your having phone problems I fell bad for ya’ son, I got 99 problems but my G2X ain’t one..!

I couldn’t help myself……..But yeah profess to TMO to replace, or root it…Cause you got no chance in court, they got people for you bud……

      • Cameron W3st

I actually DO have a chance in court…here in CA if I take Tmobile to court they aren’t allowed to hire an outside lawyer…it has to be someone who can directly represent their brand…and I would LOVE for them to try and show that my phone works correctly…especially when I show pages and pages and pages of people saying they have and have had the same problems I’m having since a week after launch of this phone

    • xer0

Same here. My wife and I each got a G2x earlier this year and were absolutely sick of paying $170 a month for a service that wouldn’t work. Call quality was laughable even with perfect signal. Less than perfect signal made it tough to get through a conversation…and signal was very often far from perfect. Not to mention we would miss calls everyday and would usually get voicemail and text message notifications several hours after they came in.

We reset the phones, rooted and removed the bloat. Nothing made them work properly. I’m convinced the G2x is just a crap phone and I do blame T-Mobile since it was their flagship phone this past summer. They put their name behind it so they need to make it right to retain the customers they’ve pissed off by selling them subpar equipment. There were complaints almost immediately with the G2x yet T-Mobile did nothing to make it right or at least nudge LG to make it right.

So we’re done. We got iPhones with Verizon on Friday and we’re already much happier. We’ve actually been able to have a few conversations without having to repeat ourselves several times. Oh and I can actually receive calls in my basement now! :D

I’ll admit that I feel a little bad leaving T-Mo because they have been a decent company and honestly when we were using iPhones on our FlexPay plan we were very content. But when it comes down to it we made a business decision. We were paying the same for T-Mobile that we’re paying now for Verizon…no lie. We have less minutes now but still plenty for us. With the uncertainty of what is going to happen with the merger thrown in we felt it was just best to get out now rather than keep dealing with it only to incur the same ETF’s in 6 months when we  finally can’t deal with it anymore.

  • Winski

You really are kidding, right? Do you guys at TMO sit around nights thinking up stupid human tricks for laughs? Really?

Just close the doors and be done with it….

  • StevenJ

Funny, my roommate was a postpaid customer for 5 years…Called yesterday to cancel and they didn’t offer a thing.  She had never paid a bill even a day late. Surprising.  I switched to prepaid (at least temporarily) and the customer service staff is easily the worst I have ever encountered anywhere.  I don’t care if they’re outsourced to a foreign country; they should be able to speak and understand English and be able to answer questions about the plans and policies.  They failed miserably.   Im just biding some time till my phone croaks at this point..but at least cut my bill in half by switching to prepaid for the time being.  Id only sign a 2 year contract for an iPhone….Im sure one day soon, iPhones will come to prepaid.  Interestingly, I read an article bemoaning the fact that Tmobile didn’t get the iPhone and said that if they had, they would have been one helluva attractive option.

  • Jaygqitalia

Haha T-Mobile is basically giving you a phone that is already free on their site. Yeah not everyone wants the iPhone but people would like to have the option. After being with TMobile for over 7 years I’m leaving. I’m just glad that my contract was up in May and I didn’t re-up. Sure having a phone is a good source of entertainment, with movies, games, etc. but being able to get a signal is what is most important to me. I’m fed up of not being able to get a signal inside but as soon as I walk a few feet away from the building my signal is great. Last winter I had to take my brother to the ER and couldn’t get a signal in the hospital while everyone else could. I had to walk outside so I could call my mom and let her know. Is it that hard to give us the same options in phones and better coverage, inside and outside. It’s kinda depressing when you’re in a building and everyone with AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint phones are getting a signal inside but you’re not. I may as well pick up smoking cause I’m always outside with the smokers just so I can get a signal.

I’ve been with T-Mobile since 2003 and will be leaving as soon as my contract is up.  I’m leaving because of poor reception, no service during SD blackout, and most of all no customer service!!  I pay my 250 a month by auto pay and have noticed a swift decline in their attitude toward helping with simple requests in my last dealings with them.  I have stayed this long because I truly wanted it to work and give them the benefit, but alas I must move on to something better.

    • Kyzecyte

i have the same problem with t-mobile i have 5 lines and all i get from the is bullshit so im doing the same thing as soon as my contract is done. and been with tmobile since it was called voicestream.

Wow! My girl has a 4g device with sprint. We both have good reception but she has really sloooow data speed. sitting next to her I get about 10 megs down and 3 up, while her phone gets less than half that. My sister has Verizon and every time we hang out my reception around town is far better than hers. Plus she is always telling me that her bill is ridiculous. And as far as ATT goes, screw that! I guarantee that everything you have (cable, cell service, home phone, work phone and more) go through ATT’s lines at some place and time. they own everything! don’t think you are an ATT customer?? I promise that a portion of the bill you pay (whatever it may be) goes in to ATT’s pocket. I have lived in three different citys in the past several year and have never had a problem worth crying about with T mobile. And as far as leaving for another company for a different phone, that is crazy!. are you gonna change carriers every time something new comes out? Thats great for your credit….

I’m gonna stay with T mobile. great phones, cheap plans and fast data speeds. No problems here in Austin TX.

t-mobile service has been pretty low lately.. My sources have told me that about 1-2 months they recently installed new routers in their towers and that has been the cause for poor reception the reason they did this is to save money and they do not care about the poor reception.  Their engineers even know this is true and they say that t-mobile knows this as well but they do not care because they rather save money with cheap equipment…. Fail

    • derek 21

what sources would that be lmao that’s a fail this whole statement.

    • TMOTECH

Your sources are wrong sir. it has to do with capacity. Something that takes time to remedy. It is being worked on. If anything the recent transition to pure IP on our transport has made our network more efficient. And it has absolutely nothing to do with reception. You need to understand how  networks work before you comment on something so complex.

  • derek 21

I understand how the offer doesn’t compete with a 4s, but really who in their right mind would offer the s2 and the amaze for free lmao, when their specs blow the 4s away regardless of what os you love or prefer. Tmobile is trying but they are not stupid , sprints in the hole for the next 5 years for a phone that came out last year in a sense that they still convinced millions of people to pay 200.00 sign a 2 year agreement, and have them sick when the 5 comes out next year with no upgrade lol.

People that follow phones would know the 4s would have been incompatible with tmo as is the 4, did apple really know they weren’t releasing the 5 this year till oct event? be real people got sucked into some bs that they will be complaining next year about. lol

people are retarded for signing a 2 yr agreement and leaving tmo for an iphone when they are going to be bitchin next year when the iphone 5 comes out and they have no upgrade, and not  given any credit on the 4s. DO YOU understand now.

The 4S Is a great phone better then any Android ive had on Sprint or Tmo & ive had quite a few. Finally Im not worried abt what new phone is out every other day as apple is at least a year and you know what I may just be satisfied for 2 years even if they do release the 5 or whatever before & im sure alot of others w still be fine. Plus the resale value is so good on iphone. Ebay right now is offering close to 300 to sell the 4!. So im not real worried. And I never was all big on the iphone but im now converted.

Just called CS and got a GSII free w/free shipping.  I have 5 lines of service and my line was OOC.  I lost my Vibrant and told them I wanted a GSII instead of paying $130 for a replacement Vibrant.  I was very polite but direct and told them if I had to pay over $200 for a GSII I would simply just get the ATT version.  Not fond of ATT but at least they do have 3g service in my area whereas Tmo doesn’t.  I didn’t expect to get it free so I just could not refuse.  So I say if you are a on a postpaid account and are OOC then you definitely have some bargaining power.
